  • How do I add a second video card to my Compaq Presario CQ5300F Desktop?

I want to install a second video card to my Compaq Presario CQ5300F Desktop so I can use two monitors. What card should I get?

Here are the specs for your Compaq Presario CQ5300F Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model supports one VGA output via nVidia GeForce 6150SE onboard integrated graphics. This model also has a PCIe x16 graphics card expansion slot which will accept a PCIe x16 graphics card. According to the specs, installing a discrete graphics card in the PCIe x16 slot will disable the onboard integrated graphics.
The graphics card you purchase must support both monitors you wish to use with your computer. Additionally, most retail graphics cards require a 300 watt or greater system power supply. Currently , your computer has a 250 watt power supply and it will need to be replaced. Please consider the Corsair CX430, CX500, or CX600 series of power supplies to meet the new graphics card power requirements.
Alternatively, if this is mostly for word docs, spreadsheets, day trading and light video, you may wish to consider a USB-to-video adapter such as the eVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or one of the many other adapters on the market.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • All Ports/Plugins Do not work. Compaq Presario SR5233WM Desktop PC

Hello,I am here today With a problem of Mine that I can't seem to fix on my own.I have the Compaq Presario SR5233WM Desktop PC And I have Not used it In about 10-12 months And I have finnaly turned it on to Try and use it for some stuff and I plugged it in the wall And It starts up normally no beeping sounds or nothing. So After I did that I plugged the Blue video cord into my PC and my monitor And Before this I rememberd My USB ports wouldnt work And I could not test them out again because my video did not seem to work,I had asked around and They said something about my Drivers Need Resseting? I kept on Getting different answers when I ask so I came here. So to sum everything Up. How do I reset my drivers Without Video And/or What is the problem and how to fix it with the ports not working..Thanks for your time.

    Hello again ZhayneW,
Thank you for the updated information on your issue. I would like you to try the steps I am providing you below in order until your graphics return:
Step 1. As you have tried different monitors I would like you to try different cables. The cables that go from your monitor to your computer could be the issue as well. According to the Compaq Presario SR5233WM Desktop PC Product Specifications page your computer has the IPILP-LC (Lancaster8) IPILP-LC (Lancaster8) and has following I/O ports with number 2 being a VGA connection and number 7 being the USB ports you state do not work. If you are using a VGA cord to connect your monitor to the computer that is the cord I would like to see replaced or swapped out with if possible. If you have already done this move on to the next step and ensure you let me know in your next post.
Step 2. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord and open it up and place your had on the power supply for about 30 seconds to drain any electrical charge you may be holding. Now on the motherboard on the front (opposite the I/O connection indicated above) left hand side you will see the following jumpers:
These are the jumpers you need to use to clear the CMOS on your computer. Now on the off chance that your USB and Intergrated graphics have been disabled in the BIOS I am going to get you to clear the CMOS settings by moving the jumpers to look like the image below:
Leave the jumpers in this position for about 10 seconds and then return them to their original position. Reassemble the computer and do not plug it in until it is totally back together. If this was successful your computer should boot up and your display should be back.
Step 3. At this point the issue appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options. You could also go to a local computer repair and look to get it repaired as well.
I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Compaq Presario SR1330NX desktop. Black screen after restarting after recovery using disks

My Compaq presario SR1330NX desktop computer which has XP. Years ago I accidentally deleted the recovery partition. I ordered the recovery disks. I have done successful recoveries with them. Although it has been years. I did a recovery from disk. I dont think I did it correctly as it had been a while. Anyway, It never asked me for the 2nd disk, but it said the recovery was successful and to restart the computer. I thought that maybe it had made its own new recovery partition when using the disks before. So I restarted the computer and all I get is a black screen with compaq on it and some weird symbols in the left upper corner that look like
    >triangle,Divide sign,Square,upside down t with a line under it,zero and a weird looking capital B".
And it does NOTHING. I put disks in it does nothing. This is the only screen that comes up and nothing else works. What did I do? and How can I fix this?

Hello tinkyferret, The HP Recovery Restore disk set makes a new Recovery Partition when they are used to recover the system.
You might try the HP Recovery Restore procedure from the hard drive, if you have not, and see if it wil complete successfully.
Normally on a Compaq system, you press the F-10 key to enter the Recovery Restore utility.

  • Require Help Obtaining Audio Driver for Compaq Presario SR1429UK desktop

    Hi,
Really hoping someone can assist me obtaining the Realtek High Definition Audio driver for the Compaq Presario SR1429UK desktop.
I've obtained a second hand SR1429UK and it has been rebuilt but I have been unable to install the audio driver. I've tried downloading it from the compaq site but the sp26552.exe update driver which is available does not work and reports errors on installation. From the Compaq site, the only available driver is the update driver and there is no available download of the 'original' driver which is sometimes available for other models.
I've tried using the other SR1429 drivers (ES, FR, IT, NX etc) but they don't seem to be compatible.
I also don't have to the recovery disk or compaq application recovery installed as it's a clean WinXP Pro build.
ANy ideas where else I can obtain this driver?
    Cheers, Jeremy

    Hi,
It seems you are trying to download the driver update of the audio drivers. Please try downloading the original drivers from the following weblink:

  • Compaq Presario CQ5814 Desktop PC Windows 7 64-bit no display or video

Hi all, I have a Compaq CQ5814. The display and video has failed. I get no picture, start-up screen, or any signal to any monitor. I've troubleshot this by using different monitors, etc. but to no avail. It is the original integrated vga and dvi i'm using. The power light is solid blue. I understand I have two pci-e x1 slots, and one pci-e x4 slot, but the x4 is hard to find with a good price, and the x1 is also kinda pricey. I'm not sure if this is the motherboard entirely or if I can just add a video card. If I buy a video card, can I get away with using a x16 with an adapter? If so, I can save $$.

    Hello trikeusa
Do you hear any sounds such as the Windows chime when turning on the computer? No display when the computer starts up doesn't necessarily mean it is a failed video chip, though it typically is. I also suggest if you are in Warranty to call HP rather than opening the computer and adding components. HP Product Warranty Check Tool
Using an x16 video card will have too large an interface to use in a x4 or x1 slot. PCI E is backwards compatible with the slot. So for example: just say you have a PCI E x1 video card. That card will be able to work in a PCI E x4 slot because it's interface is smaller. If you look at the motherboard image for your computer you can see that the PCI E x4 slot of the top fits a larger card. A card designed for the x4 slot would not fit in the x1 slot. Motherboard Specifications, (ArrowwoodD)
Lastly make sure that your power supply is big enough to power the new video card. Your computer has a 250W (watt) power supply which may not be able to power a PCI E video card. (integrated graphics use less energy and heat) If you search for a video card try locating a x1 if an x4 is not available or hard to find. Try some sites like Newegg or CompUSA.

  • Compaq Presario CQ5320F Desktop PC Won't Read Recovery Disk 1

I ordered disks from HP and received 3 disks in the mail. I just got my new hard drive (the old one was way past gone. I'm not sure how it held on for so long) and replaced the HDD. I booted up and was given a black screen asking me "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media ins selected boot device and press a key" so I put in disk 1. I got a "windows is loading files" screen, and then a blue screen with a ray pattern on it,
The recovery manager booted up, I told it I wanted to factory reset, and hit next, and then it asked if i wated to restore the system to factory settings and I hit yes, and then next. Then it tells me to insert disk 1 (which is already in) and they tray pops out, so I push it back in and the mouse gets the little CD icon next to it and I hear the disk tray going. The message goes away and then the tray opens again a second later and tells me to put in disk 1... >_<
I tried disk 2 and 3 thinking maybe they were misprinted. I have NO idea why this isn't working. I even went into the setup menu and it definitely is set to boot from disk drive....
Tips, tricks, hints, advice? The computer was given to me a while back so it doesn't have HP support anymore and I can't find anything by Googling.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I went from a 500gb to 1T (yay sale!) so I'm covered on that front.
Went into the BIOS screen and there is definitely something listed where you'd find the HDD name. That link includes the same instructions that came with my disks. But thanks! I bookmarked it. Paper gets lost easy here.
When I get to the recovery manager and try to go from "do you want to factory reset" to "heck yeah let's do this thing!" it tells me to insert disk 1. Which is already in... I spent some time closing the disk tray a few dozen times after it opened. I figured hey, why not, maybe it's just being stubborn. Nope. I know it works too, I just used it this morning. The disks were never removed from their packaging until the second I needed them, so I know they are not damaged.

  • Compaq Presario CQ5300F Desktop-Graphics Card Help

I want to add a video card to my computer. I know  I am very limited because it only has a 250 P.S. My goal is to use 3 monitors. I am not a gamer, but I trade & watch the stock market for extended periods of time. I also listed to podcasts and steam videos as well. Does have anyone have any suggestions for me? (besides upgrading my PS, or buying a new computer.
Is it better to purchase a graphics card with "fan" or "heatsink" listed as the cooling type? I could really use some help with this.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and have increased the memory to 4GB.
These are a few of the cards I was looking at:
Visiontek Radeon HD 6350 Graphic Card
    Asus Radeon R7 240 R7240-2GD3-L
Asus GeForce GT 630 Video Card
MSI Radeon HD 7770 R7770-PMD1GD5 Video Card
PNY Commercial GeForce GT 520 Graphic Card
    Thank you.

A little better research would have helped shorten the list............
Visiontek Radeon HD 6350 Graphic Card    Limited to any two monitors simultanesouly in any version of Windows
Asus GeForce GT 630 Video Card   requires 75 watts.  need 400w-500w PSU.
    Asus Radeon R7 240 R7240-2GD3-L  30 watts. Not likely, see below ***
MSI Radeon HD 7770 R7770-PMD1GD5 Video Card  80 watts + 6 pin PCIE style PSU.
PNY Commercial GeForce GT 520 Graphic Card  50Watts recommends 400W PSU
***PS: The actual max is 214 watts on the 12V line.
This, at 19W and with an actual 3 monitor plug-setup might work. (Based on your desire not to replace 250W PSU).

The best thing to do is run HP Update if it is on your computer.  I would normal tell you to run Windows Upate, also.  However, Microsoft is no longer supporting Win XP.  Also, you can go through the drivers in the Software & Drivers section and install any that have a later date than the release date of the computer (13-Aug-2006).  Make certain that they match the hardware in your system before installing them.

  • Do I need to replace video graphic card or power supply unit on hp compaq presario sr2180nx

    hello all
i saw a similar post over 4 years ago, however it doesn't address my issue.
my pc started stalling when i attempt to turn it on.  It wouldn't come on. Then after several tries every now and then it would come on. I was told through searching that it could be the video graphic card or the power supply. Therefore once i had the computer back on.  I never shut it off. However, i could reboot and it would come on.
Now it won't come on again. So i don't know what to replace. The video graphic card or the power supply.  If it is the graphic card, do i replace the one previously installed or add a new one. And if adding a new one, what is recommended to be compatible with my 300 watt supply unit? I'm lost as what route to take and how.Below are the details of my unit.
HP/Compaq Presario SR2180NX desktop PC with a P5LP-LE motherboard with an Integrated graphics using Intel GMA 950.
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards
    300 watt supply.
thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Is there an add-in video card in the slot? If so, remove it and try to turn on. If the problem is the video card it will turn on. If not it is the power supply.

  • Compaq presario problems with vista

Hello, I am having major problems with our compaq presario sr5233wn desktop, os windows vista home premium. It started shutting down about ten days ago randomly, then started with a blue screenthat has displayed different messages... I have completed 6 different restore points and this didn't work... I then backed up my personal files and performed a complete system recovery installed on the pc...it worked great for about half an hour then the freaded blue screen popped up and I had to shut it down...i did this three times to no avail...then I did a complete recovery from the two discs I made shortly after purchase...that has not worked either...does anyone out there have a fix for this..I need my ole puter.
    Thanks Elmer

    Hi Elmer,
Sounds like the first thing you need to do is test for a hardware failure.  Check out Testing for Hardware Problems Using Hardware Diagnostic Tools (Windows Vista) and since it sounds like you are having problems running Windows for very long, skip to the bottom to the section called Using Hardware Diagnostic Tools when Windows does not open.  Run the tests and report back what you find, if anything fails then there is probably a hardware component that needs replaced, possible culprits include the memory or the hard drive based on the symptoms you are describing.  If everything passes, post that back as well, and let us know, and we can look for other causes of your problems.
    Good Luck!

Hello seinus.  I understand you're trying to reinstall Windows on your computer.
Are you trying to install via a Windows installation disc?
If you're trying to perform the recovery with a disc I suggest trying the F11 method.  Try these instructions to perform the F11 recovery.
If this also fails I think it is going to be a good idea to test your hard drive for problems.  You can use the built in diagnostics to check the hard drive.  This document has instructions.  Please make sure to post the results.
