Completed BPM Processes

Hi
Can anybody throw some light on what happens when a BPM Process is completed successfully? Does the process and its data get archived in file system? If so where to look for it and should we consider this for performance of the box?

Hi,
The process and its context will at anytime be stored in the Database itself and not in the file system.
If you navigate to NWA->Manage Processes, in the Advanced Search you can search for completed processes.
You can peek into its context data just like you do for Running processes.
For performance, you can consider archiving all your completed BPM Processes.

Hi Muktech,
Currently there is no API for BPM 11g. There is an API for the human task but this will not be sufficient for completing a process activity.

BPM Process chain takes long time to process

We have BI7, Netweaver 2004s on Oracle and SUN Solaris
There is a process chain (BPM) which pulls data from the CRM system into BW. The scheduled time to run this chain is 0034 hrs. This chain should ideally complete before / around 0830 Hrs. <b>Now the problem is that every alternate day this chain behaves normally and gets completed well before 0830 hrs but every alternate day this chain fails</b> there are almost 40 chains running daily. Some are event triggered (dependent with each other) or some run in parallel. In this, (BPM) process chain, usually there are 5 requests with 3 Delta and 2 full uploads (Master Data). The delta uploads finishes in 30 minutes without any issues with very few record transfers. The first full upload is from 0034 hrs to approximately 0130 hrs and the 2nd upload is from 0130 hrs to 0230 hrs. Now if the 1st upload gets delayed then the people who are initiating these chains, stop the 2nd full upload and continue it after all the process chains are completed. Now this entire BPM process chain sometimes takes 17 -18 hrs to complete!!!!!
No other loads in CRM or BW when these process chains are running
CRM has background jobs to push IDOCS to BW which run every 2 minutes which runs successfully
Yesterday this chain got completed successfully (well within stipulated time) with over 33,00,000 records transferred but sometimes it has failed to transfer even 12,00,000 records!!

We have analyzed:--
1)     The PSA data for BPM process chain for past few days
2)     The info providers for BPM process chain for past few days
3)     The ODS entries for BPM process chain for past few days
4)     The point of failure of BPM process chain for past few days
5)     The overall performance of all the process chains for past few days
6)     The number of requests in BW for this process chain
7)     The load on CRM system for past few days when this process chain ran on BW system
As per our analysis, there are couple of things which can be fixed in the BW system:--
1)     The partner agreement (transaction WE20) defined for the partner LS/BP3CLNT475 mentions both message types RSSEND and RSINFO: -- collect IDOCs and pack size = 1 Since the pack size = 1 will generate 1 TRFC call per IDOC, it should be changed to 10 so that less number of TRFCs will be generated thus less overhead for the BW server resulting in the increase in performance
2)     In the definition of destination for the concerned RFC in BW (SM59), the Technical Setting tab says the Load balancing option = No. We are planning to make it Yes
But we believe that though these changes will bring some increase in performance, this is not the root cause of the abnormal behavior of this chain as this chain runs successfully on every alternate day with approximately the same amount of load in it.
I was not able to attach the many screen shots or the info which I had gathered during my analysis. Please advice how do I attach these files

Normally index creation or deletion can take long time in case your database statistics are not updated properly, so can check stat after your data loading is completed and index generation is done, Do creation of database statistics.
Then try to recheck ...

Task UWL and Warnings BPM process

Hi,
I have two questions about:
- Created Tasks in the UWL
- Warnings BPM process.
I have created a BPM process with a one human activitie. This human activity assigned to a task with one potential owner. When i start the process and open the portal UWL, two tasks has been generated!?. Both are the same because when i complete the first task and open the second task, i get the message: " Task has been already completed ".
Second question: when i open the created BPM process, the following warnings appears in the problem tab of NWDS:
Some of the data elements from input mapping of "Cancelled"is not initialized before used.
Some of the data elements from input mapping of "Completed"is not initialized before used.
How can i solve this warning?

Hi Martin,
Regarding the "double-task". How did you invoke the process? Via web service? Via NWA? Might it be possible that you submitted the request twice (e.g. double-click instead of a single click?) and that's the reason why 2 tasks are apparing? Or does this happen every time when you start the process?

The process will be started by a web service. This service is created as a new WSDL in the BPM environment. This service is connected to the start event of the BPM process and contains a few import parameters. After that i called the service from a R/3 system which started the process.
The 2 tasks apparing everytime i start the process...
When i start the process from the process repository (Netweaver Administrator -> Configuration Management -> Processes and tasks), i get the same problem...
The process contains two human activity's. When the first activity is completed and the second human activity start, 2 tasks will be generated (both the same...)

Getting error while Startting a BPM process programmatically

I am getting an error while trying to start the BPM process programmatically. What i have done till now is
1. Created a WS in process composer
2. Binded this ws with start of the process
3. Created input parameters
4. Testing it in WS Navigator

and I am getting error while testing in WS Navigator. I am getting error at the last step i.e. in result step and the error is

Thanks for replying. Yes i have completed the output mapping. Input parameters i need for this service are :
1. cn_comments
ca_comments
2. cn_planningGroup
ca_account
ca_serialnumber
and few more attributes
Now, what i did was i have created a complex type and added elements in it. But to my surprise i was not able to get these nodes and elements in output mapping. So, i changed the type of "parameter" from "new operation" to my complex type. By doing this i was able to get my nodes and elements in output mapping. Now i tested the entire thing in WS Navigator and i got that error.
Please suggest how o proceed.

BPM Process is running forever

I'm using local correlation only and this was working scenario. We had applied patch to PI ( former XI ) last weekend and it messed up. This is a working scenario up until new Patch installed.
Now the Problem is
Mapping ( Transformation step ) is 'in process' forever without completing the process.
This step has technical details such as
Message Text: Execution will continue in background
Exception : 0
Error type: 0
Area: SWF_RUN
Message: 609
Can someone suggest what to do.

Workflow (Process Engine) is blocked with Check FM
If I were you I'd kill all work items which belongs to this BPM and I'd reactivate this business process. For me it still looks like problem with cache.

Message Monitoring for each within the BPM process

I have a question concerning message monitoring within a BPM process. I receive an IDOC into my BPM process. I then have three transformation steps before sending an E-mail to the end receiver. When I look at the messages in the workflow log, I am unable to see the message after each transformation step. In the log display if I click the instance ID for all steps except the first step I am unable to see a message.

Is there a way to make the message persistent after each step within the process? I would like to see the data after each step in the workflow log. Is this possible?
I do receive the e-mail from the send step so I know that it's completing the process. What I'm not sure of is if each step individually processed the data as I expected.

BPM processes,receiving signals (events) & correlation to existing instance

BPM 11g/SOA Suite 11g (R1 PS2)
I am wondering whether it is possible to receive signals (EDN events) into a running process instance. The documentation describes how a process can be started by an event. I would like to be able to feed an event (signal) into a running process (just like we do with correlation in BPEL processes). Is that possible - and if so, how?
Along the same lines, can BPM processes receive messages through externally exposed WebService operations - into correlated process instances? For example: I have started the process to create a new employee in the organization and I want to inform the process instances taking care of this employee that she will start on a later date than originally assumed (or not at all because she has accepted another job). I know the unique employee id for this new hire. How can I configure the BPM process such that this incoming call after the instance has started is fed into a Receive activity in the process instance working on this employee?
Maybe a similar is question would be: can a message catch event be used without a corresponding message throw event - to catch incoming messages asynchronously and not related to a message sent by the process instance.

I also tried DB Adapters and it is not working for my scenario. Needed help/pointers from a BPM Guru \.
As per my business scenario, If there any update in the database (offline approval. not using worklist) then i should complete the running BPM process for approval.
1. To achieve this, I created a adapter to poll and it is working in polling. What is not working is picking the update in process and mark is closed/complete.
2. I tried using Catch Event with continuation mode (but it needs throw event to begin with).
3. I also tried ‘Receive event’, which also needs start event for continuation.
4. If i use Initiate mode for catch event then it initiate a new process and mark it close and does not do anything with original process (having this catch event). This catch event is still waiting.
5. If i use “receive” event with Initiate mode then jdeveloper is giving compilation time error saying that some service is not referenced in composite.
6. I have also tried other options of using “Sub-process” or another process and invoking it but nothing seems to work.
Any help/pointers? Thanks a lot.

MDM web dynpro in BPM process

This is my first development in BPM, so please be charitable and understanding....
I have following error in my process:
Error: Build stopped due to an error: com.sap.glx.paradigmInterface.bpmn.compiler.BPMNCompilerException: [BPM.rt_c_bpmn.000024] I'm sorry, I'm afraid I can't do that: The data object 'UIResponse' does not have any type assigned to it
I have MDM web dynpro Item detail component embeed in my process in the human activity. I suppose that the problem is maybe in WebDynpro part, but I have no idea where - I was following the instructions given in e-book "How to integrate MDM with BPM", until now :-(. Do you have any idea what can be the reason of such error? I tried to find something in google, but no results for that....

Yes, I follow instruction "How to Integrate Master Data Management(MDM) and Business Process Management(BPM)", chapter number 5 - "Passing MDM Semantic Data between BPM Process Steps using wrapper application". In my example I need to have BPMStatus visible in the context - I don't know why yet, but it is empty now. The previous problem which I described above is already solved. I am not sure where the problem exactly was, nothing helped, so I decided to create new process from scratch. Now I am able to build the project (no error occur), but my contrainer is empty. I drag and drop it as it is descibed on page 58. The only one difference is that I made connection with BPM status.
Besides, I discovered strange thing in this documentation on page number 61 - specify event handler. I use CE ver 7.2, and I have different windows than here - I have methods, events and event handler in separate tabs. So, I created event and event handler in those separate tabs, and then I should be able to copy them to Intefrace controller, as it is described it instruction. But in interface controller I don't have tab "event handler". Do you know why is that? Is it enough to have event handler in Component Controller? Maybe this is the problem why I don't see my container and cannot complete task?

Call Enterprise service in BPM Process

I define a BPM process for PO creation
In the first Lane : Purchase requestor
In the second Lane: Approve Process
In the third Lane: Create PO(Enterprise Service)
Here in the first lane iam giving the below attributes
Requestor Name
Requestor Country
Product ID
Product Descrption
This will be send to second lane i.e Approver Process
Once he approved it should create a PO in Hu2 if he reject it should goto first stage
I consumed Enterprise Service from HU2 and i published in service registry
Now i created automated activity and imported PO create service in BPM flow seccussfully.
Now my problem is to write code in webdynpro.
How to write code for below process?
In the second lane i.e Approver Process i should write a code that if it approve goto third process i.e call webservice which which creates a PO .If it rejects goto first process??How to write this code?Plz can u help Iam new to coding moreover to webdynpro...

The following part of the documentation explains how to prepare your Web Dynpro DC so that it can be used in SAP NetWeaver BPM:

The important thing to know is that SAP NetWeaver BPM is waiting for a complete event to be triggered in your application. Once this is received the process flow continues.
So in your case you would simply create two Web Dynpro user interfaces. The first one for entering the data and the second one for reviewing / approving / rejecting the data.
In the first case you would have some sort of "submit" button, which triggers the before mentioned 'complete' event. SAP NetWeaver BPM will then take the data that is visible in the Web Dynpro context of the interface controller and continue the processing.
The second case basically works the same with one little difference: Here you would have two buttons - one for the approval and one for rejection. Both will trigger the 'complete' event, but should set a field in the Web Dynpro context (e.g. "isApproved") differently. While the "approve" button should set it to "true" the "reject" button would set it to "false".
So once this step is also completed you could make use of gateways and conditions (https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce711/helpdata/en/47/635cb242bf6831e10000000a421937/frameset.htm) in your proces model to determine if the data should be passed to the service for PO creaton or if it should handle a different situation in case of a rejection.

BPM process faild directly after it was initiated

Hello,
Today i deployed a new version of bpm process today, wich always completed successfully. Now this process becomes status failed and is suspended immidiatley after it was initiated. The following message is given under Manage Processes -> Process Instances:
Process 'New Pool 0' suspendedjava.lang.NullPointerException

In the BPD there are no suggestion about any errors. The Server Log gives no error message.

Hi,
If you are using expressions for assigning the potential users at runtime, check that the attributes that you are using have proper data. This may be one of the several reasons behind failed process instances.

BPM Process split, Or Split, Conditional, Multiple Gatways

Hi
I am New to this. Please explain what are these and when we use these (split, Or Split, Conditional, Multiple ) when developing a BPM Process. Also where we define rules in BPM

The Studio documentation might help a little (download it from http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13154_01/bpm/docs65/index.html -> click "PDF" beside the "BPM Studio Guide" link).
At a high level, the Split activity speeds the process by allowing multiple parallel processing of an instance.
The Or Split activity is similar to a Split but the Conditional transitions create the copies going through the circuit. Only if all of the Conditional transitions are false is the one Unconditional transition taken.
The Multiple activity allows any number of instances to be created from a single instance using logic hit at runtime. This is useful in processes that must solicit information from a number of different sources and these sources may not be known until runtime (for example, collecting bids from multiple suppliers). Only one outgoing transition is allowed from a Mulitple activity. A Subflow activity is often used after a Mulitple, which enables you to send the copied instances to multiple processes depending upon the information you need to retrieve.
All three of these must be paired with a Join activity. The Join activity rejoins the copies of the replicated instances with the original parent instance after they have completed the Split, Or Split or Multiple circuit
The "Conditional" activity is similar to the traditional decision diamond that has been drawn on flow charts for years. Unlike the Split, Multiple and Or Split activities described above, the Conditional only has one instance flowing out of it via one transition at runtime. Typically in the process's design you might have a Conditional activity with an unconditional transition going to an activity downstream and a conditional transition going to another activity downstream. At runtime when the work item instance reaches the Conditional activity the work item instance either flows through the conditional transition (if it evaluates as true) or else the unconditional transition if the conditional transition evaluated as false.
The key thing to remember is that coming out of a Conditional activity, the work item instance can only exit via one transition (one path). This is the different when work item instances leave a Split, Or Split or a Multiple activity. For these three gateway activities, copies of the work item instance can flow out of these activities via several paths concurrently.

Hello All,
I have a simple business process with two ui activities. I am able to start the process from NWA -> Process Repository.
But, I need to start the process from the application. Here is the requirement:
User opens the application. ON completion, the BPM process for approval needs to be triggered. How do i access/obtain process?
If I need to call a particular task in process, How do i do that?

Auditing BPM Processes

Hello all,
Is there a way to audit BPM processes in SAP CE? Lets say I have an approval process for vendors built in BPM. There are plenty of reasons why I may need to go back and show when and who approved a particular vendor. I think there are some other types of processes that may fall under some sort of regulatory requirement (ie: SOX) such as this as well.
Does anyone know how to do this? Is it possible to do this on an Ad Hoc basis? For example, could a business user given the appropriate security role go query some sort of log (the process manager doesn't seem to have this information) to get this information?

I'm not sure whther the following will serve the purpose for you or not, however, would like you to take a look at it and check.
there is a way you can check the BPM Process instances for their status and for each of the tsaks in those processes for that matter.
In NWA->Performance and Availability Management->BPM Process Overview screen, you can see the 'The Number of Processes' section. There you'll be able to see the number of instances of processes with Error,Completed,In Progress etc. statuses. If you clicck the number you'll go to the screen with the list of the process instances with that statuses. e.g. If you click the number for 'Completed', you'll be shown the completed process instances. If you select any process from the list, at the bottom, you can see Details,Process Definition,Administrators,History(indicating status of each task and the processor who completed the task) and Context Dat( showing the values in different objects for the Process).
There is a button 'Show Releted Tasks' at the top. If you clcik this button for the selected process, you'll see the list of all the tasks for this process, showing the details such as LifeCycle Status, Task Instance Id, Process Instance ID,Start Time, Processor of the Task for each of those tasks. At the bottom part of the screen, you can see Details,Deadline,Owners,History,Context Data etc.
I guess, the Processors,Owners, History,Start Date etc. fields may serve the purpose for the auditor.
