Compressor without final cut x not working

hi I just bought Compressor 4 stand alone (with out installing Final Cut X)  and I can't get any window to start draging files to work on it. I installed it on a MacBook Air 1,4 gha Core 2 Duo... Do I need FCX to make it work? is it the MBA the problem? is it me?
Thanks

When the OP states dragging to any window, I'm confused, as you don't drag to any random window.  You can drag appropreate files to the Batch window only.  And what specific type of files are being dragged there?

  • Import from Final Cut Pro not working correctly

I have a very simple project in FCP. (Ver 6) It is a HD clip that is about 5 min long with 7 chapter markers.
I exported the project as an XML file and imported that into Premiere Pro empty project.
I wind up with two assets, a .mov with same name as the .mov in FCP and a sequence with the same named sequence in FCP.
Right clicking on the .mov and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates a new sequence with the .mov on the timeline.
    There are no markers.
Right clicking on the sequence asset and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates another sequence with the same name and the .mov on the timeline.
The markers are inside the .mov and audio tracks, not up on the top ruler line where markers appear when manually adding markers.
The keystrokes to move to markers do not work.
The "Clear all Markers" function is greyed out , like it is when no markers exist.
If a "Dynamic link to Encore is performed, there is no markers in Encore.
If you enter chapter markers manually and look at the project file (an XML file) you will see indexes with the chapter points , durations and names as children named "Markers" with attribute"ObjectID='22'.under "//PremiereData"
Following , in sequential order, are subsequent objects "Markers", ObjectID='23" through "ObjectID=n
However, if you look at the project file after importing a FCP project, this same function occurs, except that it is "Markers" "ObjectID=30 with the indexes and marker data 31 through n (further down in the file). This area is empty when adding the markers manually in Premiere Pro.
FYI , the project file is littered with the word "Marker" and "Markers" throughout the file, only their attributes make any node unique.
I am at 99.9 &% finished with a VB program to create / modify nodes, values and attributes, except that the XML date changes format at the node named "//WorkspaceSettings" so I am not able to edit values to make a file that will not crash when opening.
I would very much like the import from Final Cut Pro to work, or someone explain how to work with the nodes under "//WorkspaceSettings"
    Thank millions for a solution.

It's a 2007 iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  I had been using Final Cut Pro without any problems right until I upgraded to Yosemite.  I'm hoping that upgrading to Yosemite doesn't mean I can't continue using Final Cut Pro - that would be extremely frustrating.

  • Final cut pro not working with Yosemite

I yesterday installed Yosemite and the previous version of Final Cut Pro does not work with it.  When I try to install the latest version of Final Cut Pro from the purchased tab in the app store, I get the message:  "Final Cut can't be installed on this computer because it requires at least 4 GB of memory".  When I go to the storage tab in "About This Mac", it shows that I have 154.49 GB free of 319.21 GB.  Can someone help?  Many thanks.

  • Final cut will not work on my Imac

I've gone from a 5 year old mac book to a brand new Imac. My final cut express worked on my old mac book but is not working on my Imac. It is saying I need an AGP graphics card, what is this and can I add one to my Imac? Live type and soundtrack are working just not the actual final cut. Please no confusing computer terms as I don't understand half the stuff that is said in this forum! Thanks, Sammy.

I have the same problem. I can't load and save any movie - shortclip. I have tried several ways without succes.
I just bought FCE 4.0 and it's new to me. Nothing works for me. I'm still working in Quicktime.
My camera is Panasonic Lumix TZ7 - AVCHD. I can see my clips in preview but when I put into Sequence a "red hand" shows me "NO DATA". What am I doing wrong? I have also tried different setups i Preference.
(I have the book and DVD from Apple Pro Training Series - FCE 4, but when I follow the instructions it doesn't match what happens on my computer.

  • Final Cut X not working properly

    Hi!
In my office i am editing with a new IMAC OS X Lion. we bought final cut X three months ago and suddely, since one week, has been imposible to work on it because every time i move something in the timeline or import a pic or a video, whatever i do it takes ages until i can do another step further.
I have uploaded to the new version and checked other forums but i couldn't find a clear answer
If anyone has any idea how to solve this I would really appreciate it!!
    thanks!!!

Here's my pet answer for this (very common)  question - don't lose heart! It's an awesome application - you just need to see why it's not working well on your system.
First, check the spec of your iMac against the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Particularly your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
    Other ways to improve performance:
    Create optimised media.
Hide Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power.
Create folders in the Project library and put any projects you are not working on currently, in there. (Twirl it closed to hide them).
Move your Projects and Events to an external HD (make sure it's formatted OS Extended - with journaled on or off) and run from there.
Do you have FCS or FC 7 installed on the same partition as FCP X - not advised by Apple.
What video codec are you working with?
Lastly, RAM - Although Apple claim much less is sufficient, I would recommend you run a minimum of 8GB (preferably 16GB) RAM in your Mac.

  • Sharing on Final Cut is not working on my computer

So, my school newspaper just got a new copy of Final Cut Pro X and it's not uploading a project onto a DVD or onto Youtube. In fact, now it's not excepting the username and password for our Youtube account. Anyway of fixing that?
    -Haileybird15

This problem was intermittent for me a week or so ago. I have tried numerous times today and cannot upload any work to YouTube from fcpx due to the following error: Invalid username or password.
Having looked elsewhere, it would appear that Google are working on something that is having a temporal effect - though that could be mere conjecture. I would imagine that given a few days, either the problem will be fixed or the forums will be overloaded with complaints.
    Can Apple test this?

  • Dvd created in final cut pro not working

I have created multiple Dvd's in Final Cut Pro X and never seem to have a problem. Yet with my most recent project I've run into a problem. The created Dvd's will not play on any of our dvd players, blue ray or regular player. The error message I am getting on some of them is "region not supported". But they will play on any Pc or Mac I insert them in. I burned the Dvd using the dvd function in Final Cut.
    Any advise?

For copy-protection reasons, DVDs (the video ones) have a regional "code" - for example, North America is region 1, and Europe is 2 (grosso modo). Computers for the most part ignore this, but common DVD players don't - so a region 1 player refuses to play region 2 discs, etc.
In old times, I remember that DVD drives that came with Macs were set to some region (presumably according to where they were bought), and there was a way to change it, but you were limited to some 5 changes, after which the drive would be locked at whatever "region" it was in. I don't remember how that region was changed, but it does look like the region associated with the DVD drive in your mac did indeed change, so as to make it different from your local one.

  • Motion (.motn) Template Inside Final Cut 7 Not Working

    Hello,
I downloaded a free motion template (the file ended in .motn) that instructions with it say I can instal and use with Final Cut Pro. I am currently using FCStudio 3.
I was to instal in the following directory: Macintosh HD>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Studio>Motion>Templates
I did so. I opened FCP, the motion template was where it was supposed to be. But when I apply it, I get a solid white box. It's supposed to be compatible with both FCStudio 2 and 3.
I opened this file in Motion, and it worked (except it's supposed to be an opening and closing animation, and just the opening displays in Motion). But I'm supposed to be able to use this in FCP, so I'd like to ask here if this is something that really should be working in FCP, and if so, what fixes there may be.
    Thank You!

  • Final Cut Pro not working with Snow Leopard.

Hello, folks, happy holidays and new year to you all.
I have just recently found out the FCP 5 (fully updated, but I don't know what the exact version is) is not opening. It bounces in the dock, and that's it. However, the other apps are all working fine, Motion, DVD Pro, and Live Type. Soundtrack Pro is working as well, but I also own that with Logic, so I don't know which version it is.
I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.2, this is on my desktop. I have repaired permissions.
What I haven't done, is to see if it boots from my backup 10.5.8 drive, as well as see if it is working on my laptop. The reason I'm posting is to see if there is a known problem and easy solution. Thanks all!

  • Final Cut Pro not working on OS X Lion?

Says my OS is not up do date which it is, any ideas what this could be?

You may need to contact the App Store directly, and ask.
Most macs that can run Lion can also run Mavericks. And Mavericks is free.
What model is your Mac? If it supports Mavericks, you should seriously consider it.

  • Why does final cut x not recognize the sharp PN- K321 monitor ( European version ) as output video monitor and premiere it? Working with two cinema display and PN- K321 and I can not preview the output video at 4K for DisplayPort, whereas with premie

Why does final cut x not recognize the sharp PN- K321 monitor ( European version ) as output video monitor, and premiere yes?
Working with two cinema display and PN- K321 and I can not preview the output video at 4K by DisplayPort, whereas with premiere and after effects I have no problems

Look, you can build an HD DVD with an SD movie, just as you can build an SD DVD with an HD movie. This is not a bug, it is most likely user error. Apple will not be addressing it.
Just start over, and ensure you are building an SD DVD by bringing up the inspector for the disc (click on the background in the Graphical tab).
Make sure SD DVD is selected:
(If you do the same thing on your ill fated project, you'll see that HD DVD is selected)
Build your DVD and you'll be fine.
    Patrick
P.S. You will need to google HD DVD and Blu-Ray if you want to understand the difference between the formats. The reason that DVDSP included HD DVD was that its format was similar to SD DVD's. Blu-Ray is something else entirely.

  • Can I use Motion 5 without Final Cut Pro but maybe for iMovie?

Hi guys, if I buy Motion 5 can I use it to create a project without Final Cut Pro or X or what ever?! And can I create transitions for iMovie?
    Thanks

Stelo08, yes, Motion will export in a handful of formats.
h264 is the most popular, but did not support transparency, which you would likely want if you wanted to do lower thirds (titles).
Motion will export in prores 444 which which supports transparency, but I do not know if it works in imovie.
(I tried it in Camtasia 2.3 and it did not there, but it seemed to work in ScreenFlow 4.03)
Additionally, you can import video footage into Motion, so worst case scenario, you could pull a shorter scene into motion, do your overlays, export that scene and then add it back into imovie.

  • Final Cut to NOT open on older project every time

Is there a way to have Final Cut Pro NOT open on the last project all the time. Sometimes I just want it to open fresh without taking 5 minutes (exaggeration) to open the last project I worked on. Thanks so much!

I should have seen that. Thanks. Although what I really want is an option like when you open Aperture or iTunes with the option key held down you can select what library to open instead of the default. Usually I want it to open the last project but sometimes I don't and it is a pain to have to wait for it to open all the timelines and then close them all down again. I know..... I want I want I want. Thanks!

  • Shake without Final Cut

Will Shake work without Final Cut? I'm on a tight budget and cannot afford Final
Cut Pro. Will Shake work with Express or iMovie?

Yes, I'd like to have FCP Studio also. What I want to do is take an existing video (probably a .mov, but still not sure) and add some title graphics (not text) with a kind of effect where the title graphic 'falls' from vertical (sticking straight out of screen) to flat. Also, on the latter stages of the video, I'll need to composite some city flyover video onto terrain created in Vue. Does this make sense?

  • Instructions: Create Blu-Ray disc in Compressor with Final Cut TImeline

I searched mightily for simple instructions on how to do this. The Compressor help files are woefully inadequate in providing a simple walkthrough to do this. Burning a Blu-ray directly from Final Cut does not allow one to optimize the conversion like compressor does. So:
    1) Right click your chosen sequence in Final Cut
    2) Click "Share" The Share dialog box will come up.
    3) Choose "Blu-Ray" in the destination drop down in the top-left corner of the Share window (don't forget to choose the destination location of the files at the top of the dialog)
    4) Click "Send to Compressor" in the bottom-left corner
Compressor will open and a job will automatically be created with Blu-ray video
and Dolby ac3 audio. Set options and submit as usual in Compressor

The send to compressor option occasionally creates problems. Most people would recommend exporting as a self-contained movie, then bringing that into compressor and using your workflow from there.
