Computer often turns off suddenly

So recently my 2008 Mac Pro has started suddenly shutting itself off after an hour of operation. I'm not stressing it particularly hard, the amount of time for which it lasts seems to be the same whether i'm using the computer or it's just asleep.
When it turns off -
The power light remains on
When you turn off your mac normally, some piece of hardware makes a click sound. It makes that same click sound when this happens.
After the holding the power button until the light goes away, I'm not able to restart the computer for a few minutes.

Hi my Mac Book Pro suddenly turned off suddenly and it wont restart. The battery is fully charged but I cannot turn it on again. Also it sounds a beep every 3 seconds, don't know what to do. I have turned it on and off with the same result.

Have you tried recalibrating your battery as recommended on page-24 of the User’s Guide? Also, Repairing Permissions and/or Resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU) may resolve certain issues so it’s worth a shot.
PERMISSIONS
Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
Select: your Hard Drive
Select: the First Aid tab
Select: Repair Permissions
PMU
Resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU) is known to resolve certain anomalies and may well help with your symptom.
If the computer is on, turn it off.
Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
Press the Power button to restart the computer.

Computer turns off suddenly when i startx

Hello, I try to run xorg with my nvidia card but I have a big problem.
My graphics card is an Nvidia GTX 670MX (in Asus G75VX)
Here's my setup xorg + nvidia driver procedure:
pacman-S xorg-server xorg-server-utils xorg-xinit
pacman-S nvidia
nvidia-xconfig
and then i do startx ..
startx charges to "GLX.." and the computer turns off suddenly!
The logs file exist, but it is empty

You have the exact same laptop I have, and exact same problem. There is already a long standing topic about this.

However, to cut a long story short; certain laptops with nvidia GPU can't start x with proprietary nvidia drivers and the 3.10, 3.14 and apparently 3.15 kernels. Booting with the kernel parameter
rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1
seems to solve the issue for most. This is what works for me and since you have the same laptop it should work for you as well. However on the Nvidia forums, there were some people who required an additional kernel parameter
CONFIG_HZ=1000
But for you it should work with just the first one I mentioned so I suggest giving it a try.

At this point I would recommeng resetting the device if if will not turn on.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Hi everybody, ive just intalled today a new 1Gb RAM module from the apple store and now my macbook pro is 2Gb.
The thing is that today it have just turn off suddenly, loosing all my work, two times. It never happened before so i think that its just because of the RAM but, can this normally happens? Wat do you think i should do?

Sounds like you didn't install the RAM properly. Open back up, take the RAM out, carefully reseat it until you're sure it is all the way in, then put your computer back together and see if that solves the problem.

you want to restore the device as new after backing up your information then test it out
that will tell you whether its the device itself or the software causing the issue
sometimes apps can be corrupt or anything liek that causing it to do that

Please take the following steps to configure:
1. Open device manager.
2. Find the network adapter that you want to make a change, right click it, and then click
Properties.
3. Click the Power Management tab, and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

Sorry, in seriousness, are you worrying about activation of a perpetual license? Pick up the phone and call Adobe Customer Support. Explain to them that you've reinstalled everything from scratch after formatting your system, and would like them to make it possible for you to activate Photoshop again. They'll work their database magic and you should be good to go to activate with your serial number again.
If you're on the Creative Cloud I don't believe you need to call anyone. Just log in with your Adobe ID.
