Configure DHCP on VLAN

Do anyone knows if DHCP can be configure on VLAN?

Hello and good evening,
You create a DHCP scope on a 3560 just like any other IOS DHCP configs ...here is a sample config:
interface vlan 1
ip add 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
interface vlan 2
ip address  2.2.2.1 255.255.255.0
ip dhcp excluded-address 1.1.1.1 1.1.1.10
ip dhcp excluded-address 2.2.2.1 2.2.2.10
ip dhcp pool vlan1
   network 1.1.1.0 255.255.255.0
   domain-name cisco.com
   dns-server 4.4.4.2 4.4.4.1
   default-router 1.1.1.1
   lease 3
ip dhcp pool vlan2
    network 2.2.2.0 255.255.255.0
    domain-name cisco.com
    dns-server 4.4.4.2 4.4.4.1
    default-router 2.2.2.1
   lease 3

Your proposed design is a good one, and you have obviously done your homework!  A nice design!
I would say however, that this community is really more for Cisco Small Business products and your question is in reference to a Cisco traditional products.  I believe you will have a better experience by posting your question in the Cisco NetPro forums located here: http://forums.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=main
That forum has subject matter experts on Cisco traditional products that may be able to answer your question.

  • SG300-20 - Configure DHCP on VLAN interface

I have been reading the various related discussions on the SG300 and SG500 switches regarding setting up VLAN's and DHCP on those VLAN's.  For whatever reason I have been unable to even get this simple task to work.
First thing I did was to update my firmware and boot version as follows:
    SW version    1.3.7.18 ( date  12-Jan-2014 time  18:02:59 )
    Boot version    1.3.5.06 ( date  21-Jul-2013 time  15:12:10 )
    HW version    V02
When I reloaded the SG300 after the SW/Boot updates the startup config was wiped out and I had to setup my switch from scratch.  The intent is to have two VLAN's:
VLAN 1: all devices, servers, etc.
VLAN 2: basic subnet that hands out DHCP addresses
The SG300-20 is connected to an Asus RT-AC66U router on the 192.168.1.x subnet and provides internal network access and WiFi access (router IP address is 192.168.1.1 and is default gateway).  All that works with no issues.  So my task is simply to create VLAN 2 on 192.168.2.x subnet and use DHCP to allocate addresses.  I have spent many hours on this and I still can't get it to work.  When I connect a laptop to the port (GI8) assigned to VLAN 2, I end up getting some wonky 169.254.x.x address.  I certainly thought something this "easy" wouldn't be that hard to setup, but apparently I was wrong.
The SG300 is running in L3 mode as shown in my running-config below.
Does anyone happen to see something that might be preventing my laptop client from recieving IP addresses from the VLAN 2 DHCP interface that are not in the 192.168.2.x subnet?
Any ideas / suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Tom,
Thanks ... I followed the steps you outlined and it worked!  The only difference being that I have an Asus RT-AC66U router and the there is no "enable multiple subnet" option.  So, I just followed your instructions on creating the static routes in the RT-AC66U and everything worked.  The DHCP addresses were correct and I had internet connectivity when I plugged a laptop into the gi8 port.
I did make one tweak to the Network Pools screen as follows:
My DHCP configuration for gi8 on VLAN 2 now looks like:
    ip dhcp server
    ip dhcp pool network InternalWAN
    address low 192.168.2.1 high 192.168.2.99 255.255.255.0
    lease infinite
    domain-name MYSTIC
    default-router 192.168.2.254
    dns-server 8.8.8.8
Previously I had followed your advice in the article "Need help configuring SG300-10 switch" and had setup everything using CLI.  However, I didn't think about needing the static routes.  So, I think it was probably setup correctly beforehand but had no chance to work because the routes were not setup.
Thanks very much for your help!

  • Best practice configure DHCP server NAC

    hi all,
any idea how the best practice deploy dhcp on cas? i tired follow user guide configure dhcp on cas but still cannot running smoothly user just only grep ip authenticate.
    - CCA agent very slow appear when user get ip dhcp on authenticate.any idea ?
    - how to integrated profiler with nac appliance .?

    Hi ahmed,
You have configured your CAS to be your DHCP server, Thats well and good because you are using Real IP mode, Which Supports the CAS to be a DHCP server.
    Remember
This Setting is only For your Authentication VLAN that your client gets an ip While Authentication ok.
When your Client switches to Access VLAN , your client trafiic no longer flows through the CAS so CAS is now not responsible for DHCP.
You'll have to configure another DHCP on the Trusted Side which can Lease IPs to the Acess VLAN Members.
As you have configured OOB then your client is in Acess VLAN and does not come in contact with the CAS so you need the Trusted side DHCP to give the Client an IP address.
Here in your Scenario your ACCESS VLANS are 2022,2044
Hope this helps, Do reply after Testing.
    Thank You
    Regards
    Edward

  • SGE2010P - DHCP Snooping - VLANs - Web GUI

    Model: SGE2010P
    FW: 3.0.0.18
    In the web GUI:
Under DHCP Snooping ---> VLAN Settings
It does not allow you to enter a VLAN higher than 4092
I configured it to listen on VLAN 4094 via the CLI just fine.
I believe this should be fixed in the web GUI.

Yeah, I don't think I want to do that because of all the little troubleshooting steps they usually make me go through.
I buy high-end equipment so I can skip the simple stuff...they usually don't understand that.
I know it's a bug because I've already done the troubleshooting, I don't feel I should have to do the same stuff again.
I only make a call when absolutely necessary because I find the phone support for this product line very un-supportative.
At this level, I think I should get to skip the simple stuff.
If you can't submit a bug report thats fine, I'll just leave it at this.
It's no big deal, I just thought I'd let some one else know.

  • Configuring DHCP snooping

I am settting up DHCP snooping for the first time on an 3750. My DHCP server resides on another switch. The 3750 is connected through a Gig SFP fiber to a 3550 with DHCP relay.
Is the following config correct? The client will not get a dhcp with the option 82 enabled.
    (config)#ip dhcp snooping
    (config)#ip dhcp snooping vlan 2-200
(config)#no ip dhcp snooping info option
!The client will not get an ip with
    !this option enabled.
! trusted interface connected to the 3550
    (config)#int gi1/0/4
    (config-if)#ip dhcp trust
    ! untrusted interface
    (config-if)#ip dhcp limit rate 100
    (config)#ip dhcp snooping database flash:/database1
(config)#ip dhcp snooping database timeout 30
    (config)#ip dhcp snooping database write-delay 30

Have you enabled option 82 on your DHCP server? Also, on your DHCP relay switch, configure the following under the VLAN interface in question and see if it makes any difference.
    Example:
    c3550-A(config)#int vlan 1
c3550-A(config-if)#ip dhcp relay information trusted ?

  • Having issues configuring DHCP and with Redundant router

    Hello everyone
I am new to Cisco and I am having few problems in configuring my topology in Packet tracer.
I am having redundancy in router and swithes both,
I have assigned one layer2 2960 switch as a VTP server and asssigned VLANs from that switch then assigned ports to the hosts in access layer switches.
Problem 1:  If I take my Router1 off I am unable to ping so the pupose of having redundant router does not serve the pupose.
Problem 2 : I need to assign DHCP server for the users who will be connecting wirelessly with Access Points, so can I configure DHCP on Access Points which I am unable to do so in Packet tracer any idea how? / Or shall I configure the DHCP on Router1 and Router2 and exclude the addresses I have assigned to all the hosts connected using ethernet.
Also how can I configure Email server in this tolpolgy and where?
    Thank you
    A.K

    Hi Asif, Jeff is right.
    (1) You need to configure either HSRP (Hot standby routing protocol) or VRRP (Wirtual routing redundancy protocol), or GLBP (Gateway load balancing protocol).
With either of this config, you will be able to configure 1 logical IP address, which will act as a gateway on your computers. However, both routers will need different IP's (all within the same subnet). You will also need to create multiple HSRP groups to support all your VLAN's. So one HSRP group per VLAN. The logical IP in the HSRP group will act as the default gateway on computers within the VLAN.
Though I don't think packet tracer supports any of the above configs - FYI it's part of the CCNP Switch sylabus. So the above explaination will make sense after you've got a good understanding of HSRP, VRRP and/or GLBP.
    (2) I would recommend setting both the Router as a DHCP server, and configure the Access Point (AP) with a static IP (disable NAT and DHCP on the AP)
    (3) In packet tracer, choose the Server icon and check it's properties. You should find an option to enable EMAIL server. Connect it to any of the Distribution layer switches.
Hope this helps get you started on the learning curve :-)

    1. disabled ipv6 on nic and RESTARTED SERVER....
    2. realizing i did a mistake, i renabled ipv6 on nic after that

    4. ipv4 has fixed ip address (192.168.43.9), router ip 192.168.43.254, i chose dynamic ip assignment for ipv6 (not sure should be static or dynamic).
    5. Fixed my network assigned fixed ip address automatically but failed to fix error DHCP for ipv6 for the network.
    6. i also tried internet connection wizard, which fails reporting error Internet connection wizard cannot configure dhcp for ipv6 sbs 2008. this

Although I am not using IPV6 but server may be using it. Can someone please please help me.
    thanks

    Hi,
I can find that there is a
same thread that you posted in the forum. I had replied it. Please check if can help you. Just remind that please reboot when uncheck IPv6 option and monitor the result. Meanwhile, please check if can find some relevant issue when you run
    SBS 2008 BPA.
In addition, please refer to the following thread and skip the DHCP check, then run the wizard. Please check
if this wizard can be ran completely. If run successfully, then enable the DHCP
    again.
    SBS
2011 is detecting DHCP on my network after I disable it and i cant continue setup
    Hope this helps.

  • How to see if an ip helper-address is configured on a VLAN

Hi - I'm not exactly new to networking but this question will likely say otherwise :)
I'm trying to figure out the command to show the running-config of a VLAN.  The goal is to see if an ip helper-address has been configured on a VLAN.
This is both for a Cisco 6509 and Nexus 5k.

    Thank You in advance

Thanks for the prompt reply!  Still no bueno though.
On the 6509 I get the following:
    6509#show ip interface vlan xxx
                                               ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
On the Nexus 5K I can't complete the command, stops down at show ip interface with the following listed as ? after interface:
    5K# show ip interface ?

    Hi Moh,
First, thanks for pointing out that I'm in the wrong section of the forums.  My bad.  I'll pay closer attention next time.
Second, I tried your suggestion but it failed to work.  I cleared the configs of the router so I could start with a clean slate and followed your commands to the letter.  The host can't seem to get an IP assigned and the here's what I get with a Show IP DHCP Pool:
    Router_1#show ip dhcp pool

  • Question on configuring DHCP failover on 2012

Is it possible to have dhcp A replicate all scopes as hot standby to dhcp B. Then have 1 single scope on DHCP B (thats not a scope on dhcp A) be replicated to dhcp A.
So basically I have Replication going in both directions. One for all scope from A to B and 1 single scope from B to A.
    Can this be done?

    Hi  Rondefino,
    It can be achieved.
We could configure failover for every scopes separately.
Server B could be the standby server for the scopes on server A. And server A could be the standby server for the scopes on server B. They will replicate automatically.
Here is the guide for configuring failover:

  • How to configure DHCP in Hyper-V

    Hi
Recently I have created 2 Hyper V nodes in Windows 8. One is windows server 2012 and second one is windows 8.
    My Question is :
How can I configure DHCP  in server 2012 that can provide IP address to windows 8 . I have made win server 2012 a domain controller and also  installed DHCP role.
    PLZ HELP!!!!!!!!

As Ryan has said in his reply, there's nothing different to setting up DHCP in a Hyper-V VM as there is on a physical host.
If you've not done this in 2012 (R2) before then you may be missing the notification in Server Manager after the install notifying you that there is post installation tasks for DHCP to complete.
I suggest you read the information at the link Alexey posted as there information to take you through step by step.

  • Vlan Configuration/DHCP

I have configured multiple vlans at a remote site that connects to the main campus through a T-1 frame relay circuit. As long as the computers are on VLAN 1 it will pick up an ip address from our DHCP server, but if I change the port to a vlan that I created I loose connectivity. Where am I going wrong.

I assume that your DHCP server is located in vlan1. In order to 'relay' DHCP client broadcasts from one vlan to another, you need to enter in the 'ip helper-address ' command at the vlan SVI; i.e. say your dhcp server IP address is 10.1.1.1 and you want vlan2 to get dhcp assigned addresses, you would enter in the command 'ip helper-address 10.1.1.1' in the vlan2 SVI.
However, if you do this, unless you create multiple DHCP scopes all your vlans will recieve IP addreses in the same subnet, which is bad :)
I would consider using local DHCP pools\assignments from your 'core' switch at the remote site using a config similar to this:
    ip dhcp pool VLAN2
    network 10.2.0.0 255.255.0.0
    default-router 10.2.0.1
    domain-name xyz.corp.com
    dns-server 10.2.0.2
    ip dhcp excluded-address
Just duplicate this command for every vlan that you want to have dhcp assigned addresses; changing the network, default router and pool names.

  • How to configure netboot across vlans/DHCP when already a windows bootp server in the mix?

    Hi All,
We just moved to multiple VLAN's for our Mac's in a mostly WIndows environment. DHCP option 66 points to a Windows Deployment Server & option 67 to the WDS file.
I've tried  "sudo bless –netboot –server bsdp://10.2.0.1" on a client but get "Netboot scheme bspd not supported on EFI systems".
I can get changes to the DHCP scopes if needed  -except for the boot server, so I was thinking using something like using DHCP Vendor Class Identifier to specify a different bootp server but have no clues how...
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Steve

You might check out the "How to boot across subnets" page at <http://afp548.com/mactips/>. It has a bunch of info.
