Configure Sunray terminal to access various sun servers via xdmcp

I have a Sunray server 4.1 configured and able to login using the Sunray terminal. I want to access other Sun servers via XDMCP. At the login screen I select Options - Remote Login - Enter Host name and enter the server IP address, it asks for the user name and passwd. After entering the valid credentials, it comes back to login screen.
Also, want to know how I can configure the login screen to list the hosts so that I can select the server from the list. I tried to edit the options using Login screen setup option, that did not work.
Appreciate if someone can point any to documents which can explain this.
I am using Java desktop.

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
You can able to take RDP for client system from server. But keep in mind that; client system can only allow 1 RDP session at a time for administrator purpose. For that you need to have permission for taking rdp session.
Also you need to verify that “Remote Desktop Service” service is running and also need to verify the below thread as per snap.
In addition, if you want to manage all the server and client system, then you can use Remote Desktop Connection Manager to manage all the client and server remotely.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

Hello!  I've noticed this behavior where I can no longer RDP to the RDS Host I want after it's been added to the connection broker (by server name or IP).  The connection broker load balances me to any available rds host rather than the one i

Theres no need for deleting the default amSDK based datastore because its needed for some default accounts.
You may try to create the datastore using the commandline (amadmin)
    Have a look /etc/opt/SUNWam/config/xml/idRepoService.xml
You may also try to create amadmin account in the external ldap directory.
(Un)fortunately ive never tried to remove the default datastore.

  • Sun Servers for Personal Use

I recently have come into possesion of a Sun Enterprise 450 Ultra, a Sun Enterprise 3500, and two Storedge 5200(s). The company I work for (a straight by the books windows enterprise) recently took over a competitor that made use of Sun/Solaris, so they were getting thrown away. My conciense wouldnt allow this. I would like to assimalate at least one of the servers into my home network, but do not even know where to start. My ultimate goal would be to have a Server runnign ultralinux (sparc linux port) that I can use as a fileserver/vpn router, with one of the SAN's attached to the fileserver. Would either server neccesarily be better than the other? They seem pretty similar to me, but im completely in the dark looking at these things. Im open to ideas and suggestions.

    Excerpt from Sun:
    "Get the Solaris Enterprise System
Download a complete enterprise-class solutionSolaris 10, Java Enterprise System, development tools and N1 management softwareat no cost, no kidding. Already downloaded? See My Sun Connection."
    Here's the link:
    http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/get.jsp
To my humble understanding, you can download Solaris 8, 9 and/or 10 for free along with a whole host of other Sun software - ALL FREE - and not have to worry about Fiber Channel support or anything else not 'supported' or capable of running under any linux variant. I just started downloading Solaris 10 06/06, free of charge. It's a huge download that requires a DVD burner.
I believe Sun is doing this to compete with the competition from the Linux crowd. While I have been able to get linux and various BSD flavors to run on various Sun SPARC workstations and servers, I've never run into the Fiber Channel problem, so I can only believe what has been previously posted.
If you are set on running Linux, I believe the E450 would be your best bet as it is PCI and SCSI based as opposed to the E3500 having all Fiber hard drives. The CD and Tape (if one exists) are SCSI in the E3500, but the backplane to which all internal hard drives plug into, is Fiber.
If you want to look at hardware for your systems have a look at the Sun System Handbook found here: (Click on 'EOL Systems')
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/
    The Ultra Enterprise 450 page:
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/E450/E450.html
There are similar pages for the E3500 and for the A5200 Storage Arrays. In the handbook there are links to purchase some components, which you should feel free if you find you need them. However, I would suggest searching eBay or other auction sites before purchasing new parts as you could save enough to purchase that new dual core PC I've been hearing so much about.
Now for getting started on installations... Sun's support forum, BigAdmin located at:
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/collections/installation.html
BigAdmin has quite a few articles that should help you thru the installation process. Or do as I have always done, Google it, it will come. There's also information there to help set of various other configurations.

  • Non-networked, maybe USB boot for SunRay terminal?

I have set up SunRay terminals before, and have a current system running several in a multi-head configuration. The problem I am having is that I need to move my system to a new location, which will be on a shared network. I am not concerned with the bandwidth, as the network is a full Gig-E network, but I will not have the ability (Because of intervening switches and routers) to control the DHCP on the network.
I was wondering if there is any way to hard-code the boot information into the SunRay terminal- tell it what its IP address is, and where to get its boot files? Or (Even better) allow it to get it's boot files and such from a lock USB key in the back?
I currently have Sunray 1 and 1G models, but would not be opposed to upgrading if this is possible with a newer model.
Thanks in advance for the help,

just upload the GUI firmware to your sunrays DTU. Then access the gui with stop+m or ctrl+pause+m
    utfwadm -a -A -N network -f /opt/SUNWut/lib/firmware_gui
this command will make the GUI firmware for all DTUs

  • Why does JavaFX deployment rely on javascript and connecting to sun servers

I understand that there's a way to deploy javafx applets and jnlp offline by downloading the required files from sun's website.
But normally, it seems that a connection to sun servers must be made for anything to run and javascript has to be enabled to use applets.
Why is connecting to sun servers necessary? especially, when the client already has the javafx runtime.
What if the client loses internet connection or disables javascript, how can one run the JavaFX application/applet then?

it seems that a connection to sun servers must be made for anything to runYes, it is (unfortunately) in the license, which doesn't allow to distribute the JavaFX software.
See also two (at least) related threads: [Interaction between Swing and JavaFX?|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=932&threadID=5362457] and [Distribution JavaFX application without web start|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5367483] with a kind of official answer.
javascript has to be enabled to use appletsIt is a quite common requirement, people ready to run Java shouldn't be afraid to enable JavaScript... :-)
Why is connecting to sun servers necessary?I suppose it is to ensure the latest runtime is used, for a better experience...
What if the client loses internet connection or disables javascript, how can one run the JavaFX application/applet then?Well, if they don't have an Internet connection, I suppose they can't reach the page where the applet is... :-)
Not necessarily true, the applet can be on a network and the Internet access can be deactivated.
I haven't tried, but I think if the runtime is in cache, the applet can be run. Although the applet loading code or the JNLP can attempt to check for a new version, I don't know what happen when they cannot.

  • LMS v3.2 Proxy configuration also used to access ACS

    Hello,
I'm running LMS version 3.2 on Windows in ACS mode. To access Cisco.com I use a proxy server, this proxy server has access to the Internet, but connections to "inside" servers (like ACS) are not allowed.
I've noticed that the HTTP/HTTPs Connectivity With ACS has a status "Not Reachable". When troubleshooting this with a network sniffer, I noticed requests for https://<ACS_SERVER>:2002 being sent to the proxy instead of a direct connection. The proxy denies these requests.
I can't remove the proxy configuration in LMS, as this will break connectivity to Cisco.com
I don't want to permit access to "inside" servers on the proxy server, as I consider this a security issue.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards,
    Siebe

This sounds like bugs I have fixed in the past.  It's been a while since I heard of such a problem.  Restart Daemon Manager, and confirm that the problem goes away.  That is, before doing anything else in CiscoWorks, confirm that it is no longer trying to use the proxy to access ACS.  This will confirm that the proxy settings are being leaked by some other task.
If so, then try the following tasks, testing to see if the problem comes back:
    Common Services > Software Center
    Software Update
    Device Update
    RME > Reports
    Bug Toolkit
    PSIRT
    End of Life

  • LDAP support limited. How to configure Address Book / Directory Access?

I complained to a sysadmin that my LDAP searches were returning very limited information (just surname and e-mail). He replied,
"...[Address Book] can't be configured to query specific attributes, it can't be configured to show specific attributes except for the small set they have elected to permit, ... it doesn't even show cn/commonName which is a compulsory field in the inetOrgPerson schema or ou/organizationalUnitName which is the standard way of distinguishing components of an organization..."
Directory Access seems to offer facilities for requesting specific attributes. I tried mapping them to Address Book fields, but with no improvement in the search results. Any tips?

Here is some info I found on manually configuring and mapping schemas.
    Configuring LDAP Searches and Mappings
Using Directory Access, you can edit the mappings, search bases, and search scopes that specify how Mac OS X finds specific data items in an LDAP directory. You can edit these settings separately for each LDAP directory configuration listed in Directory Access. Each LDAP directory configuration specifies how Mac OS X accesses data in an LDAPv3 or LDAPv2 directory.
You can edit the mapping of each Mac OS X record type to one or more LDAP object classes.
For each record type, you can also edit the mapping of Mac OS X data types, or attributes, to LDAP attributes.
You can edit the LDAP search base and search scope that determine where Mac OS X looks for a particular Mac OS X record type in an LDAP directory.
IMPORTANT: When mapping Mac OS X user attributes to a read/write LDAP directory domain (an LDAP domain that is not read-only), the LDAP attribute mapped to RealName must not be the same as the first attribute in a list of LDAP attributes mapped to RecordName. For example, the cn attribute must not be the first attribute mapped to RecordName if cn is also mapped to RealName.
For detailed specifications of Mac OS X record types and attributes, refer to "Mac OS X Server Open Directory Administration for Version 10.4 or Later" (available at www.apple.com/server/documentation/).
    In Directory Access, click Services.
If the lock icon is locked, click it and type the name and password of an administrator.
Select LDAPv3 in the list of services, then click Configure.
If the list of server configurations is hidden, click Show Options.
Select a server configuration in the list, then click Edit.
    Click Search & Mappings.
Select the mappings that you want to use as a starting point, if any.
Click the "Access this LDAPv3 server using" pop-up menu and choose a mapping template to use its mappings as a starting point or choose Custom to begin with no predefined mappings.
Add record types and change their search bases as needed.
To add record types, click the Add button below the Record Types and Attributes list. In the sheet that appears, select Record Types, select one or more record types from the list, and then click OK.
To change the search base and search scope of a record type, select it in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then edit the "Search base" field. Select "all subtrees" to set the search scope to include the entire LDAP directory's hierarchy from the search base down. Select "first level only" to set the search scope to include only the search base and one level below it in the LDAP directory's hierarchy.
To remove a record type, select it in the Record Types and Attributes List and click Delete.
To add a mapping for a record type, select the record type in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the Add button below "Map to __ items in list" and enter the name of an object class from the LDAP directory. To add another LDAP object class, you can press Return and enter the name of the object class. Specify whether to use all or any of the listed LDAP object classes by using the pop-up menu above the list.
To change a mapping for a record type, select the record type in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then double-click the LDAP object class that you want to change in the "Map to __ items in list" and edit it. Specify whether to use all or any of the listed LDAP object classes by using the pop-up menu above the list.
To remove a mapping for a record type, select the record type in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the LDAP object class that you want to remove from the "Map to __ items in list" and click the Delete button below "Map to __ items in list."
Add attributes and change their mappings as needed.
To add attributes to a record type, select the record type in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the Add button below the Record Types and Attributes list. In the sheet that appears, select Attribute Types, select one or more attribute types, and then click OK.
To add a mapping for an attribute, select the attribute in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the Add button below "Map to __ items in list" and enter the name of an attribute from the LDAP directory. To add another LDAP attribute, you can press Return and enter the name of the attribute.
To change a mapping for an attribute, select the attribute in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then double-click the item that you want to change in the "Map to __ items in list" and edit the item name.
To remove a mapping for an attribute, select the attribute in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the item that you want to remove from the "Map to __ items in list" and click the Delete button below "Map to __ items in list."
To change the order of attributes displayed in the list on the right, drag the attributes up or down in the list.
Click Save Template if you want to save your mappings as a template.
Templates saved in the default location are listed in pop-up menus of LDAP mapping templates the next time the current user opens Directory Access. The default location for saved templates is in the current user's home folder at this path:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Directory Access/LDAPv3/Templates
Click Write to Server if you want to store the mappings in the LDAP directory so that it can supply them automatically to its clients.
You must enter a search base to store the mappings, a distinguished name of an administrator (for example, uid=diradmin,cn=users,dc=ods,dc=example,dc=com), and a password. If you are writing mappings to an Open Directory LDAP server, the correct search base is "cn=config, suffix" (where suffix is the server's search base suffix, such as "dc=ods,dc=example,dc=com").
The LDAP directory supplies its mappings to Mac OS X clients whose custom search policy includes a connection that's configured to get mappings from the LDAP server. The LDAP directory also supplies its mappings to all Mac OS X clients that have an automatic search policy. For instructions, see Configuring Access to an LDAP Directory and Setting Up Search Policies.

edit i mistyped in the topic name, i mean to say "com.sun.j3d..."
I've set myself up using JCreator, installed j3d, j2sdk, and jdk. Tried a few test programs to make sure everything was working (a basic hello world and my chess game i created my junior year in highschool). It was all running fine.
So i started reading into j3d tutorials, and came across the HelloUniverse sample program. I slapped the code in and compiled it, only to be met with:
    "cannot access com.sun.j3d.utils.applet.MainFrame".
I commented out the import line that included this, compiled, and it gave me another message complaining about the same thing, only this time ending in:
    "...geometry.ColorCube"
Obviously, its just running down the line with all of the j3d imports, so i ran through and reinstalled all my j3d files; still didnt work. I can't figure out what's wrong with it. Please help.

I apologize for the delay in responding to you.  I was on the road all day yesterday.
OK.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable to a Linksys Switch (Model EZX S55W) that's part of this local network.  That did not work.  I swapped out the cable for one that I know works.  Still no change.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable directly to a port on the router.  No change.  I even swapped cables here, too, but no success.
As I was doing all this, I was wondering: When I select the HP P1606dn printer in the Print and Fax "Add" dialog box, (see the image below) and the Print Using pulldown menu displays "Please select a driver or printer model" and the message "Searching for new drivers" appears under it (with the spinning wheel), why is it that the Ethernet connection to printer is critical to "finding" a new (printer) driver?
Isn't the utility searching through my system and libraries looking for a printer driver app for the printer that I identified/selected in the dialog box?
After all, if the dialog box lists the printer among those to choose from, hasn't the utility already discovered the printer via the Ethernet connection?

Need to configure Airport connection to access corporate wireless network.
Have imported my certificate from Windows XP machine into keychain and made Leopard always trust in order to authenticate automatically into my corporate wireless network. It keeps asking me for username and password even though we used self-generated certificates to log into corporate wireless network. Does anybody have any instructions on how to successfully configure certificates in Leopard?

Welcome to the discussion area, jackregan!
You'll need to "hard reset" the Time Capsule and then reconfigure it again. To do this, you will hold in the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly, keep holding another second or two and then release.
The "hard reset" will not affect the data on your Time Capsule
Now you can open AirPort Utility and configure the Time Capsule using wireless (be sure to log on to the default network which will have a name like Apple Network xxxxxx), or you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to have AirPort Utility communicate with it that way.
When you open AirPort Utility, click Continue to follow the guided setup to re-configure your Time Capsule. You would choose the option to "Create a wireless network" when you are given the configuration options.
