Configure Workflow Manager 1.0 in Project Server 2013 with FBA
Hi,
Please suggest the ways to configure Workflow manger in Project server 2013 where PWA using FBA
we have tried for below situation, but no luck!!
The workflow manager configured using windows login account, we are associating a FBA site with workflow manager which is
Register-SPWorkflowService -SPSite 'http://FBAsite' -WorkflowHostUri 'http://workflowmanagerapplication:12291'
Following steps are taken care while creating workflow.
We have added users to the user service profile services
User profile synchronization is started
The user by whom we are logged is available in User Profile list
we are not running workflow with share point system account
Final step full synchronization of User Profile Application
Below the error we are getting when workflow run

Manage groups Access in Project Server 2013
I am currently set up as Administrator and Project Manager in the Project Server 2013 Account, however when trying to access the section Manage groups, I get the below error, can you please help me?
Sorry,
something went wrong
You do not have sufficient
permissions to view the specified page. Please contact your administrator for
permissions to view this page.
Many thanks,Hi,
Clear browser cache and ensure the browser has compatibility mode on and the PWA site is trusted. Also you can verify issue with In private browsing mode.
If Issue still persist re-sync your user profile by open and save thru Manage user and verify issue in different machine too.
Hope it will be useful.

Microsoft Project Server 2013 with SharePoint Standard 2013
Hi,
We are using SharePoint 2013 standard. What are our options to implement project web app into our SharePoint architecture? Please note that we are not using SharePoint Server.
Thanks,Project Server 2013 requires SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise edition. Users that use Project Server functionality require a SharePoint Server Standard CAL, Enterprise CAL, and Project Server CAL.
I'm not sure I understand your last comment, SharePoint Server 2013 Standard Edition is SharePoint Server.

Project Server 2013 Workflow Task Permissions Breaking Inheritance and Causing Workflow to Cancel
I have an on-premise instance of Project Server 2013 with a workflow that includes an
Assigned Task to assign users to Approve or Reject a WF phase. The workflow successfully assigns the task and notifies the user of the task. However, after (or possibly just prior) the user Approves the task, the workflow is automatically
cancelled.
By default, the WF Task List is set to inherit permissions. After Approving an item, it appears that the list permissions automatically breaks inheritance, causing the workflow to cancel. This occurs somewhat regularly after resetting permissions to inherit
from the parent site. Although there are stretches where the issue doesn't occur. I'm not sure what's causing the list permissions to change.
This issue occurs in both our Dev and Prod environments. Has anyone experienced this issue with permissions breaking inheritance automatically?Hi Vic,
According to your description, my understanding is that the workflow was cancled when you created a workflow with Impersonation Step to break inheritance permissions.
After breaking inheritance permissions, make sure the workflow initiator (the creator) still has least edit permission on the list.
In addition, please check the workflow history list to find more information about this issue.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Wendy

After installing Project Server 2013 (without updating SharePoint Server 2013 SP1))
I am facing the problem while opening project web app. I configured the SharePoint 2013 and project server 2013. Here is the detail what I performed the steps:
OS Server 2012 R2, SQL Server 2012, SharePoint server 2013 version
15.0.4420.1017, Project Server 2013 version
15.0.4454.1000. SharePoint configured and running successfully. After project web app site provisioning successfully completed. I got the below error.
Microsoft.Office.Project.PWA.WebParts.PWAPart' from assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.PWA, Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' cannot reduce access.
I run this psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force. But still getting same error.
Previous steps:
Earlier I had also tried to install SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 "3823428". After the installation SP1 some of sharePoint site features suddenly stopped e.g: Cannot browse "Service Applications -->
Manage service applications" option even after re-start the server. This was previous error after upgrading SP1
"Method 'get_IsClientValid' in type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.WorkflowServiceApplicationProxy' from assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices,
Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' does not have an implementation"
Anyone can help me!!! Thanks...
Faisal Numanhello,
For SP2013 and PS2013 to work properly on Windows Server 2012 R2 you need to use the SP1 install media for both, download SharePoint 2013 with SP1 and Project Server 2013 with SP1

How to enable Alerts in Project Server 2013
Dears,
I am using Project Server 2013 trial edition to manage project in my organization. The problem is that no alert emails are sent to team members when there tasks expire.
I have check relevant settings in both SharePoint server side and project server side.
btw, members can receive notification email when project manager updates the project or assign new tasks to them.Hi,
The Alerts and Reminders Project Server settings page in SharePoint Central Administration is used to configure notification email settings in your Project Server 2013 environment.
You can refer this article which explains about alerts and notifications in Project Server 2013

Dear Sirs,
I need your support over the following MS EPM 2013 issue:
Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 30+ minutes. We
need to reduce this total publication time down to acceptable working values 10+- minutes.
Environment information:
Single App Server (Virtual): 16 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 50 GB free disk space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SharePoint Server 2013 and MS Project Server 2013 with CU December 2013 (KB 2850024) applied.
Single RDBMS MS SQL Server (Virtual): 8 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 200 GB free space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SQL Server 2012 x64 SP 1 Enterprise Edition.
We have 1Gbit LAN between APP, DB server and 1Gbit LAN between APP and Proj Prof Client.
Yes, we are on the way of migrating to the Prod environment
with 3-tiered architecture (with SP1 slipstream and CU December 2014 applied), but this issue also
presents there.
Project’s file information:
Tasks in the file: [~4900], resources in the file [~396] enterprise task’s custom fields used in the file [~23].
Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed that
tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 = 34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks relevant
for new sharepoint site creation.
Case 1: Issue description:
During the Enterprise project’s file save and publication we have the following sharepoint 2013 log messages:
07.31.2014 12:43:17.22 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =376.068676326181 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
07.31.2014 12:43:17.69 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =361.652807828928 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
It shows that sharepoint spend at least ~350 milliseconds (or 0,35 sec*4900 tasks = 1715 sec, or 28,5 min) for each task update during
project publication. And we also have another log file that shows that about 0,7 sec (or 0,7 sec*4900 tasks = 3430 sec, or 57 min) sharepoint spend for save each task in project file to project server. So total save and publication time more then 60+ minutes
for that project file. The same result we have even if user didn’t do any changes at the project file.
We use only enterprise projects (dbo.MSP_EpmProject_UserView.projectvisibilitymode = «False»), and do not use sharepoint tasks lists,
but the synchronization between MSP Plan and SharePoint tasks list works at any case.
Case 2: Issue description:
- For the second test we created a new project with new sharepoint project’s site on basis of our «issue» project, with total amount
of tasks in it of 5148 (yes, we increased the tasks list default limit at the sharepoint site up to 6000 items in it – standard limits for sharepoint view list – 5000 items).
- Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed
that tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 = 34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks
relevant for new sharepoint site creation.
-Then we deleted the
tasks list for that new test project from the sharepoint site and republish the project plan one more time. This time project save procedure took about 7 minutes, project publication about 2 minutes and 3 minutes for other relevant queue jobs. So total time
is 12 minutes.
As a conclusion: yes, we have determined
the exact problem - during synchronization process (from Project Server to SharePoint) it perform copying all tasks and related data from Project to SharePoint in spite of fact that you changed only ONE task or ALL of them. At any case, synchronization will
copy ALL of them from Project Server to SharePOint task’s list.
Our workaround is to disable the task’s synchronization for such big-sized project plans:
– to delete the SharePoint «tasks» list at the SharePoint site tied with project plan.
- or deattach the SharePoint site from the project plan.
Thank you for reading this topic, please if you also forced with such issue provide us any known workaround or maybe any official response
\ feedback from MS about it.
Thank you in advance,
Best Regards, AndreyRegarding my topic, I also said that every time when sync works it updates All items from project’s plan at Project Server to corresponded task’s list at SharePOint server. Inspire of the fact that you changed only One task or group /
all of them at your project’s plan.
And it seems to me and my colleagues that it’s probably (maybe) a “bug” at the product. Here is what we have if looked a little bit closer to the code:
Share Point determines what task to sync from Project’s plan to sharepoint list. To do that sharepoint needs to know was that task changed or not, based on the following fileds (check SQL stored procedure “[MSP_READ_TASKS_FOR_SYNCRONIZATION]”):
TASK_UID TASK_NAME TASK_START_DATE TASK_FINISH_DATE TASK_PCT_COMP TASK_PARENT_UID TASK_OUTLINE_NUM
WSS_LISTITEM_UID TASK_ID TASK_IS_ACTIVE
We noticed that at any case synchronization performs for all tasks, EXCEPT the ROOT one. Then we looked at the comparison of TASK_PARENT_UID field. So sharepoint compares TASK_PARENT_UID with ParentID (this is internal name for lookup
field “Tasks” at the Sharepoint, and it stores their values at the format "ID;#Title").
And comparison performs like following:
SharePoint looks for Task at the Tasks’s list corresponded to Project’s plan with ID represented at the TASK_PARENT_UID field. Then it takes SharePoint ListItem ID (“int” type) and store it to the “num” parameter;
num = this.GetCachedListItemByUniqueId(listItem.ParentList, nullable.Value).ID;
2.Then it compares “num” with task’s “ParentID” at SharePOint as follow with operator “!=”:
((SPItem) listItem)["ParentID"] != (System.ValueType) num
3. If comparison was success (true) – then it tell us that values (at the Project’s plan for tasks) was changed, then it need to be synchronized. Corresponded Method setup “true” flag, and then returns it.
The “bug” is that this expression at the Step 2 will always return “true”, because in fact it compares “string” (see above – that this is lookup field at SharePoint side)
with “number”. For example if the parant task ID is “55”, then we get:
"55;#Task 1" != 55
And by the rules of .Net the “string” will never equal “number”
Furthermore this is approved by the SharePoint logs:
In that case we always get the note “Setting ParentID to” at the logs (we see it if turns on Verbose for “Project Server” -> “Sharepoint Integration” category).
So at any case of publishing project’s plan we always get that note at the logs for tasks that have Parent task, and we have Parent for all of them EXCEPT the ROOT one, exact logs represented further:

Hi,
In Project Server 2010, it was possible to customize the JSGrid, thanks to the tutorial included in the SDK "Walkthrough:
Customizing the PWA Ribbon and Accessing the JS Grid". It works really fine, and I used this possibility in many Project Server 2010 implementation for Customer.
I would like to make it on Project Server 2013, but the same code doesn't work. I found some posts
here, where people had the same issue, but no clear answer.
The Project Server 2013 SDK does not contain the same tuto upgraded for 2013, and I hope that this possibility still exists.
If somebody has a very basic example to show how to execute some custom code on Focus Change event, or clic, or what ever event happening on this JSGrid, it would be very nice to share.
My installation is On Premise, not in On Line.
Thank you for your help !
SylvainHi,
In fact for filtering, you have to use delegate.
The "HandleFilter" function must be created by you. You have to bind this function to the correct delegate.
For filtering, the main delegates are:
SP.JsGrid.DelegateType.AutoFilter
SP.JsGrid.DelegateType.LaunchFilterDialog
SP.JsGrid.DelegateType.GetAutoFilterEntries
The post
here explains the process for 2010. For Project Server 2013, the difference is that we don't have the same objects.
Here you can find the way to declare the delegate in Project Server 2013, with the SetDelegate method:
var pc; // Contains the Project Center extension object.
var JsGridControlInstance;
var JsGridSatellite;
_spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("ProjectCenterMain");
function ProjectCenterMain() {
pc = new ProjectCenterExtension();
function ProjectCenterExtension() {
if (typeof projectCenterComponent === 'undefined')
return;
JsGridSatellite = projectCenterComponent.get_GridSatellite();
JsGridControlInstance = projectCenterComponent.get_GridSatellite().GetJsGridControlInstance();
JsGridSatellite.get_tableViewParameters().bAutoFilterableColumns = true;
JsGridControlInstance.SetDelegate(SP.JsGrid.DelegateType.AutoFilter, HandleFilter);
JsGridControlInstance.SetDelegate(SP.JsGrid.DelegateType.LaunchFilterDialog, FilterDialog);
JsGridControlInstance.SetDelegate(SP.JsGrid.DelegateType.GetAutoFilterEntries, FilterMenu);
function HandleFilter(newState) {
alert("Filter !");
function FilterDialog(param) {
alert("FilterDialog !");
function FilterMenu(param) {
alert("FilterMenu !");
My advice to search, is to put a break point on the ProjectCenterExtension function, and through debugger, tou can drill down in the main methods and properties.
Often you will see functions with get_XYZ(), and then be able to make the matching with the Project Server 2010 syntax.
For the filtering implementation, I beleive that you can deal with your article based on 2010: it should work as soon as you will get the equivalent objects in 2013.
Hope it helps !

Help needed Regarding Project Server - 2013 Workflow
Hi All,
I am new to Project server 2013 Workflow, hence please help me regarding this. Pardon me if this question is too trivial.
I have created a project type associated with a workflow and my workflow is as follows :
So I am not doing anything here, I am just testing the workflow as mentioned by technet site : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn458865(v=office.15).aspx
But it is mentioned that, after a minute or 2, the workflow state will change, also they have mentioned to press the Submit button.
But in my case, the workflow is not moving to next stage [It just says 'The workflow is still processing - which never changes after hours] or I am getting the submit button (Submit button is disabled on the ribbon). Below is the state of my workflow :
PS : I have made the user added to Portfolio managers group as well. But still I am having this same issue.
The Workflow manager is installed properly, and it is working fine in case of List workflow. I am facing the issue only wrt Site workflow for Project server 2013.
Please help me to solve this issue.
Thanks,
shankyHi Kiran,
I am now facing issue while assigning a task to a person in the workflow.
I am having a person named say 'John' , who is included in Project Manager as well as Portfolio Manager.
And I am using a workflow as :
Stage : Conceptual
Assign a task to John (Task outcome to Variable: Outcome5 | Task ID to Variable: TaskID3 )
Transition to stage
Go to Approval
But this is again giving issue as :
Workflow Internal status : Cancelled
Details: System.ApplicationException: HTTP 401 {"error":{"code":"-2147024891, System.UnauthorizedAccessException","message":{"lang":"en-US","value":"Access denied. You do not have
permission to perform this action or access this resource."}}}
PS : I have used the same Sharepoint admin account for 'Account Name' in ‘User Profile Sync' , Is this causing the issue? Please let me know.
Thanks,
Shanky -

Project Server 2013 for Resource Planning & Project Portfolio Management
We are looking to use project server 2013 for resource and project portfolio management. We are an IT department of approximately 600 growing to 1,000 within the next several years.
We would like to us PS2013 to do the following :
Manage Portfolio of Projects
Manage Resources against this Portfolio
Calculate Project Finances using resource roles and rates
I would be grateful to have both comments on experience , both positive and negative.
Thank YouMany teams within organizations are turning to Project Server to help them control resources, deliverables and costs better. It does resource management very well with work & cost resources, baseline costs, material costs, budget costs and
out of the box earned value analysis (EV). The Strategy (portfolio) component is very powerful and it will help you identify project that align to your objects then do what if analysis to find the right mix of projects.
Here are a couple of things you should think about when moving to PS2013:
1) Who will be using the tool? If it is a mix of onsite staff, remote staff, vendors, contractors etc. you may want to think about a hosted solution.
2) Training. Don't assume everyone will just magically 'know' how to use the tool. Train everyone (team members, PMs, Executives) then train them again. It's the only way to truly get the value out of the tool.
3) Who will manage the system? This is not a typical application. The right administrator needs SharePoint, Project Server, SQL Server, MS Project, Analysis Services and SQL Report writing skills. Please note that much of this can
be learned by the right person but DEFINITELY find the right person.
4) Don't start customizing right out of the box. You will get frustrated. Adjust your organization to the tool early on. I know that is easier said than done but you need a realistic approach to get tool acceptance moving early.
5) Use workflows but don't use them right out of the gate. Workflows are great but I suggest you wait until phase 2 or 3 to start aligning them to your business processes.
6) Lastly and most importantly, you must first establish your own business processes THEN align them to the tool. DO NOT assume the tool will create business process for you. You must think about how you are going to initiate a project,
how are you going to track deliverables, how will time sheets be managed, etc. Get to a whiteboard, crack open Visio and start building and establishing your processes now. PS 2013 is pretty flexible and usually will align well with existing business
processes.
And don't forget to hire a good consultant. They can be brought in during key phases of your roll-out to add value, help you avoid risks, and provide you with best practice advice.
Good luck. -
Facing some problem while configuring Workflow Manager 1.0.
Hi,
I am facing some problem while configuring Workflow Manager 1.0. in my farm.
Scenario is,
I have installed and configured workflow manager in my farm, it was working well with no issue. But one of team member played with AD and deleted Farm administrator's entry from AD by mistake. So suddenly workflows get affected and stopped working.
Then I added administrator entry in AD, uninstalled the Workflow Manager and installed it again. But now while configuring workflow manager I am facing some issues that "Failure to adding user in BUILTIN\Administrative group. Please add it manually"
And after sometime it shows another error message that, "Starting service Service Bus Massage broken failed: Timed out has expired, the operation has not been completed"
If I go for services then "Service bus Message broker" service is not running properly (Its status is just showing "Starting") and don't starts.
I have also added the user in BUILTIN\Administrator, IIS_IUSER, WSS_WPG group of the machine from computer manager - user and groups.
Also given permission to databases, and assign role of sysadmin and dbcreator to user
I also tried following steps
1) Stop all services associated to workflows
2) Uninstalled workflow manager
3) Deleted all databases associated with workflows
4) Installed workflow manager and tried to configure.
But showing same error.
If I use another SharePoint server farm to configure workflows, there I am not getting first error of adding user to BUILTIN\Administrator group. but second error remains same.
We having SQL server and Active directory at another machine and FARM at another machine, if I use local admin for configuration of the workflows (as local admin can start any services) but entry of local admin is not Active directory so can not assign SQL's
sysadmin, and dbcreator role to local admin.
I am attaching snapshot of error for better understanding.
Your help will be very precious to me.
Thanks,
Rajesh

Service Bus Message Broker
Service Bus Gateway
Workflow Manager Backend
All of these should be running and your workflow service account should be running all of these. If any are still configured under the old service account, they'll need to be updated. Next, check to see what service accounts have access to the
Workflow Manager 1.0 databases:
SbGatewayDatabase
SbManagement
SbMessageContainer
WFInstanceManagement
WFManagement
WFResourceManagement
The Workflow Manager service account should be mapped as the DBO for all of these. if any are still configured under the old service account, they'll need to be updated.
Given the complete loss of the original workflow service account, and the resultant impact on security configuration throughout the workflow farm, I would recommend performing a re-installation. Do it thus:
Launch Workflow Manager Configuration Wizard
Select the Leave Workflow Manager Farm
Stop all workflow services (see above list)
Repeat steps 1-3 for each instance of Workflow Manager 1.0 Server installed.
Delete all Workflow Manager databases (see above list).
reboot.
Start new installation. -
Unable to find the User Named Account Name@Domain Name while Configuring Workflow Manager
Hi,
I have installed Work Flow Manager,Service Bus and its Cumulative Updates.
While Configuring Workflow Manger using Workflow Manager configuration wizard i am getting the error while creating a Service Bus Namespace.
I have provided the Service Accounts for both Workflow Manager and Service Bus as Domain\Account instead of
Account@Domain.
While looking in to the Power Shell scripts that are poupulated by the GUI i have identified that
Account@Domain is appended to the ManageUsers switch while creating a Service Bus Namespace and the GUI configuration is failing.
New-SBNamespace -Name 'WorkflowDefaultNamespace' -AddressingScheme 'Path' -ManageUsers 'Domain\Account','Account@Domain' -Verbose;
So i need to modify the Powershell script as below and need to run the Powershell scripts for configuring Workflow Manager.
Is this a bug in GUI Workflow Configuration Wizard or am i doing something wrong.
Please help.
New-SBNamespace -Name 'WorkflowDefaultNamespace' -AddressingScheme 'Path' -ManageUsers 'Domain\Account' -Verbose;
