Connect to POP server using Binary Sockets

Hi there,
I've just been following the (as of today) latest tutorial on
http://www.gotoandlearn.com
about "Binary Sockets" and this all works fine and dandy using
"leebrimelow.com, 110" for the socket connection (full code below).
But when I try my own domain "storm-media.co.uk, 110" I get
the following error message....
Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2031:
Socket Error.
at Pop3_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
But if I try using my own gmail account "gmail.com, 110" (or
"googlemail.com, 110") nothing happens? It just sits there and
doesn't do anything?
Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply, I changed it to pop3.storm-media.co.uk
and I managed to connect to the pop server.
But now I'm onto the next stage of my problem.
When I run the below code I get a response back from the
server that says...
+OK POP3 server ready
<112d3161-ee1b-4535-a82e-ff63a1d3075a>
...but after that nothing happens, even though I'm sending
another command (in this case my username) to the server to respond
to?
Any ideas why the server would not be sending a response?
My updated code is attached.

Just upgraded to TB 31.4.0 and it is no longer asking for password, will not download new mail but does connect to POP server. I can send (it asks for p-word)

Failure to download or allow sign in started with current upgrade.
Despite inability to sign in, I have access to all settings and address book.
I've "repaired" the inbox folder and checked the firewall settings. Connection to POP server is fast. Downloads for the last week or so (prior to upgrade) have been VERY slow...
Likely the solution is "simple", but I'm very much NOT a "software tech" kinda guy.... If you can help, please use small words ; )

Is Yahoo your Internet provider? Do you have a local provider? ei:AT&T, SBC, cable co, check who you make your check or epatment to...etc, If so I would start there, but if no joy go to the "Mothership"
I may be wrong about this, (it's been a long time now) I may have deleted my mail account from Mail (after writing down all the info from all General/accounts, and the rest of the tabs, and then added a new account using my existing email address, and it may have "walked me thru the rest of the proceedure".
But like I said it was a long time ago 3-4 years, but that may have been the path I ended up taking, make sure to write all the info down in case you need to re-enter it all manually. Then try calling them.

Microsoft make a jdbc driver and it is readily available through MSDN. Here is a link http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/data/aa937724.aspx. Whatever jdbc driver you are looking for, Google it, and if it exists you'll find it in 10 seconds.

Not able to connect with managed server using ssl connection

My weblogic server is running on linux. I have setup ssl connction bu using Demo Identity and Demo Trust.In server logs i can find the following infomation that server is running on secure port.

iOS 7 will give errors on non Apple certified peripherals. So make sure you only use Apple certified products. Did you backup the phone and then RESTORE AS NEW (not reset)? Try doing that by plugging the phone to iTunes on a computer. See if that helps. If it solves the problem, there could have been corrupted software on you phone. If not, it could be a hardware issue (including the battery), in which case you would need to go to a Apple Store or authorized service provider.

it display a web page with the message of

How to connect to pop server

Hello friends i have problem connecting to my pop server
iam using the following code to connect to the pop server

with the actual name of my pop mail server too

i even tried by dialing from my system using a local isp service provider i am able to send mail using the smtp server of my local isp but not able to connect to the pop provider

ITouch fails to connect to POP server STMP server is fine

The issues is this.
The hosting service has changed email servers and web mail application (something called "Smartermail"). I use the OSX SL with Mail 4.x on the MAC and my iTouch is ver 3.1.2 (using wireless internet).
There have been some minor and not unexpected hiccups in migrating from the old system to the new, nothing catastrophic (yet).
The domain and account settings (addresses, passwords, DNS) have stayed the same. All connections (servers) are of the same domain name so incoming mail (POP) is mail.mydomain.com outgoing mail (STMP) is also mail.mydomain.com, the user name is also the same for both.
I did have to change the SSL to off on both the MAC and iTouch in order to connect to the POP servers. Once that was done receiving mail wasn't a problem.
I did have some issue sending mail with the STMP server but that was solved by changing the port from the typical default(s) to one provided by the hosting service techs. These conditions were originally encountered and addressed on the MAC but as they say the "lessons learned", were applied to the iTouch as well.
This morning, I find I can't connect to the POP server on the iTouch, (message: Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server "mail domainname.com" failed.) However, I can send mail (STMP), download web pages and update weather - stock feeds and the like.
The last thing changed was the STMP port setting, yet I thought I was getting mail (on the itouch) even after the port setting was changed. Is the STMP connection confusing the POP connection? And if so what's the fix? I my be missing the obvious but I didn't see a separate port configuration on the iTouches mail set up.

Can connect to the server using VPN, but cannot pull up the shared drives

I can connect to the server at work using PPTP VPN. I can ssh to the server once I VPN'd in. I cannot, however pull up any of the shared drives using K. It just says that it is connecting, but nothing happens. When I disconnect the VPN, the user name and password box pops up. The only way to get rid of it is to click cancel. Nothing changed on the server since the last time I logged in. Also, when I am VPN'd in, I cannot use the Server Admin or Workgroup Manager. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
P.S. The server is the MacMini and the client is the MacBook, running 10.5.7 software.

Anyways, I also have a problem like this.
I connect to VPN fine, but tools that need to access the net seem to take a very long time to open. Its as if my Client Information inside the server isn't being sent to the client correctly.
It takes atleast two minutes after connecting to the VPN for iChat to connect and work again, and tools like Server Admin seem not to work at all.

Mail 1.3.11 (Panther) not connecting with POP server

I can send mail, no problems. However, to receive my mail I have visit my ISP's website to read it there. Apparently, Mail.app is not dating the incoming mail server which is leaving me with an empty mailbox.
I have gone over all the setting with my ISP so many times the support team recognizes my voice everytime I call. I have seen exotic fixes having to do with [~/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist] and such, but I'm reluctant to go messing around in there. How does one fix my problem without a Ph.D?

I don't understand your obsession with overstuffed mailboxes.
What are you talking about? As I told you in a previous post, Mail sometimes chokes on a message it cannot download and that prevents it from downloading the rest as well. This is a relatively common problem. It has absolutely nothing to do with overstuffed mailboxes.
The two servers are failing to connect.
This is wrong! And which two servers are you talking about? According to the activity information you reported, Mail is connecting to the POP server, but failing to download the messages it sees there for some reason...
If you want to mess with the contents of your ~/Library/Mail/ folder (which you said in your first post you didn’t want to do), there are a couple of things you may try as well.
For POP accounts, Mail uses a file within the account folder to keep track of which messages have already been downloaded. Deleting that file causes Mail to treat everything still on the server as if new and try to download it again:
1. Quit Mail.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/.
3. Locate one or two files named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded and move them to the Trash. Mail 1.x used MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded to keep track of which messages had already been downloaded. Mail 2.x uses MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 for the same purpose.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

Connection to pop server failed

I used to be able to access my mail with itouch until recently. I've made no changes to settings either on the itouch or in my mail account; I have wi-fi, strong connection and usable for all apps except mail where I get the message "connection to the server pop.orange.fr failed." Can someone advise please?

Hi Hazel,
Does the issue persist after disabling the Wi-Fi? To test, just tap Settings> Wi-Fi> Off.
If it does, try deleting the email account from the iPod and then adding it again. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1385 provides details and tips related to setting up email accounts on the iPhone.
If it doesn't, there may be a Wi-Fi network configuration issue.
Also if you can send and receive emails on your PC using Outlook Express or Windows Mail, you can just sync the email settings to the iPod touch. If its on the same network, you will see the same results.
You can rule out issues with the iPod software by restoring it. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 will walk you through restoring the iPod touch.
