Connecting a Leaf switch to a counter

I am a newbie to LabVIEW so bear with me, please.
I connected a switch ( a leaf switch similar to the Power and Reset switch on the front of a Dell OptiPlex GX-110 PC) to the source pin of a counter on my PCI-MIO 16E4 card.
I am using the switch to count events.
Whenever I click (press and release) the switch, it counts more than one, and counts unpredictably (10-100 counts instead of one).
I dont want to use a 555 monostable to output a single pulse and feed that into the counter's source pin.
Is there a way to make the counter ignore the bounces from the switch, so that I can use is in some real and useful applications?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Otherwise I will have to abandon it and switch to my ABB AC31
PLC and use the MOK function....

Hi Tanveer,
The NI-660x counter/timer cards have programmable debounce filters to prevent this type of behaviour.
However, the E Series cards don't have this debounce filter. I assume that the behaviour of a leaf switch is to switch an output high while the button is pressed and switch an output low while the button is released. If this is correct, then we can use the E Series counters (PCI-MIO-16E-4) to emulate a debounce of sorts. If you set the counter application to be retriggerable pulse generation and set the pulse width to be generated greater than the typical duration of a push button but less than the period before the next push of the button, the we will have created a clean single pulse. You can then route the output of this counter to the
input of the second counter's source and count that. I'm not sure if this will work as I'm not too sure how the leaf switch operates but hopefully it gives you some ideas.

  • Access Connections Ethernet Location Switching only saves one port at a time

Like many other people, I cannot get automatic location switching between two Ethernet networks to work properly.
I have two stored network locations;  one for home and one for work.  Both of these are set up as Best Available Network with both Ethernet and Wireless.
Under Tools - Location Switching, both networks are listed, and "Include Ethernet connections in automatic switching and prompt me to save Ethernet ports"  is checked.    However, in the details column, the current location has 1 saved port(s), and the other has 0 saved ports.    The saved port is always the one most recently connected.
If I go to Edit Saved Ports, only one location is listed, with the correct IP address and MAC address for the router.   If I connect at the other location, only that location is listed, again with the correct IP address and MAC address.
The router IP addresses are different (work is 192.168.0.1, and home is 192.168.1.254), and obviously the MAC addresses are different, so it should be possible for Access Connections to distinguish them.  Unfortunately the only "editing" that is possible is to delete the saved port.  I would be happy to add a saved port manually, but that is not an option.  In addtion, despite the "...prompt me to save Ethernet ports" being checked, I have never received a prompt.  Even if I delete the saved port, it resaves automatically next time without any prompt.
I have also tried setting up both locations as Ethernet only, but have exactly the same problem.
My T520 was supplied with Access Connections 5.85 preinstalled.  I tried upgrading to 5.97 in the hope that it had been fixed in the meantime.  Unfortunately it has not.
Access Connections is still marginally useful to me for automatic switching between Wireless and Ethernet, and for a simple manual switch of settings such as default printer, home page, and file sharing.  However, it would be very useful for the home and work locations to be autodetected and switched.
From the number of unresolved questions on this board on the same topic, it appears that this is a long standing deficiency with Access Connections.  Is there any chance of this being fixed?

I found from another bulletin board that ethernet location switching seemed to work OK with Access Connections 3.82, but stopped working with releases after that, and from my experience still does not work with 5.97
    http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=38514
    Two questions:
    1. Does anyone know if Access Connections 3.82 works with Windows 7?
    2. If so, where could I get a copy?  The oldest version on the Lenovo website appears to be 5.50
I will refrain from commenting on the necessity of going back to such an old version to recover basic functionality for this utility......

  • How to identify which server are connected in a switch?

    Hi,
Many servers are connected to a switch?
How to identify what server are connected to which port remotely?
    Thanks!

    Hi Sam,
just issue the command show ip arp , it will display some thing like this for know the MAC address & the VLAN number.
Protocol Address Age (min) Hardware Addr Type Interface
    Internet 10.2.1.18 9 0800.6913.710e ARPA Vlan2
to know on which port it is connected, just issue the command as mentioned below
    sh mac-address-table address 0800.6913.710e
    Mac Address Table
    Vlan Mac Address Type Ports
    2 0800.6913.710e DYNAMIC Po1

  • Does Airport Express support multiple ethernet connections via a switch?

If I use the following configuration, with the Airport Express extending my network, will it handle multiple devices connected via a switch?
Modem---Airport Extreme- - -802.11n- - -Airport Express---Switch---multiple devices (eg. network printer and iMac).
Or do I need to use a second Airport Extreme instead?

It works for me—even when the AirPort Express device is configured to extend the wireless network created by the AirPort Extreme router.

  • Server with 3 NICs wants to connect to 2 switches

I have two 6509 on the distro layer ( distro 1 and distro2 ), running layer 2 only. They are connected to two 6509s on the core layer. One of the server admins has a 3 port NIC on his server bundled together to increase bandwidth. He wants to connect it to 2 ports on the distro1 and 1 port on the other distro2 switch. All 3 distro ports he is connecting to are in the same VLAN and the VLAN is allowed on all port channel connections between distro and core switches.
Will this even work since he is connected on different switches?

Those stating that a NIC channel is not allowed to two individual switches should know that a NIC teaming is usually not a link aggregation (port-channel). If it is an active-standby-standby NIC team then all you need is to make sure all 3 ports belong to the same VLAN. Traffic will leave the server on the active link and the switches will learn that the MAC address is on this port. No Port-channel config is necessary on the switches.
Load-balanced NIC teaming usually requires Port-channel if the same src MAC address can appear on multiple ports. In this case multichassis link aggregation is mandatory and you cannot connect to individual switches.

  • Which server is connected to a switch interface

    Hi all,
We have a few switches in our company and we wanted to know an easy and quick way to find out which servers are connected to that switch (even if possible on which interface).
    For example:
    Firewall ->      Switch1 interface Gig 0/1
    Mail or 10.10.10.10 ->             Switch2 interface Gig 0/3
I'm using at this moment the following command:
    show cdp neighbors
It gives me all cisco device connected to that switch.
Is there an other command that does the same? Displaying the DNS or IP of a server that is connected to that interface of the switch.
    Kind Regards

    Hi,
    a) there are some free tools available to track the end devices.
SolarWinds User Device Tracker might be an example (not tested personally).
    b) If you want to run a CLI command, you usually need to take an opposite way: find out the device IP or MAC address and track to which switch port it's connected.
So you can list the FW ARP cache in your case.
And then to use  "trace mac ip ..." switch CLI command, e.g.

  • Connecting two Nexus switches with link

    Hi,
I would like to connect two nexus switches with a link. Like one c5020 and one c5548p. How do i need to configure the ports at both the switches which will be joined with a fiber cable.
For MDS switches such links becomes E-port and fabric is merged. Not sure what happenes at the Nexus swictches. Any input will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Do you have fc modules in each nexus? If so, they act much like the MDS 9148. All ports should be default auto speed and auto switchport mode. Insert fc-sfp's and a regular multimode fc cable between them. Default mode is fc switch.
If that doesn't work, configure the mode on each port as E.
Once done, the fc switch portion of each nexus will merge.

  • Airport express connected to a switch?

I have a Airport Extreme and a Airport express which I havent used yet. I want to connect my QNAP nas and two mac pro desktops to eachother and the internet. What is the best way to do this?
I've currently networked the two macs together with a dlink dgl-4500 router which isnt connected to the net (ie wireless is off)  and then just use the wireless cards inside to get outside the network. But I've just bought this NAS, so I have to make changes. I connnected the qnap to the router and I do get a IP and the macs can see it/share etc.
I have this Airport Express and a simple dlnk dgs-2205 5 port switch lying around. Can I connect the airport express to the swtich and share the connection via the switches ethernet ports? I guess I could just connect the airport to the QNAP but then all of my traffic is going over the wireless network and it will be a lot slower than a gigabit switch.
    Thoughts?

I think I have it on the right setting - what do I select in the settings?!
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility.
It said it was going to take an hour to transfer a 250meg file, so thats definitely still going over wifi.
It still going over wireless is correct. Remember your Mac Pros are connecting to the network over a wireless connection. So, for example, when you send a file from one Mac Pro to the QNAP, that file must first travel to the AEBSn (by wireless), then to the AXn (by wireless), before it makes it to the QNAP by wire.
The other option, which theoretically, should improve the data transfer rate, would be to configure both base stations into an extended network. In this type of network, the AXn would be an extension of the AEBSn's wireless network and its Ethernet port would still be enabled for the Ethernet switch.

  • How to find the server connected from multiple switched netwtwork

I have one server connected to distrubted switch or acces switch  in network .
They were 45 switches in netwrok and need help how to find that server  connected switch  from  Core switch ?
How many  mehtodes and process we can use to find that connected physical switch ?
    Thanks in advance !!!

It's a bit of a tedious process. but if you ping the IP address of the server from the core switch and then check the ARP entry to get its MAC address, you can then trace the address tables in the switches to find the switch that the server is physically connected to. Once you have the MAC address, you'll have to check the address table in each switch in the path between the core and the server to find it.

  • Connecting a 2950 Switch to an existing small network

Wondering what's the best way to connect a 2950 Switch to an existing small network. It consists of a few computers on just basic old Linksys switches, but there's only 1 network cable going to the back room, where we have several computers that need to access the internet. I've had a spare 2950 kicking around (RMA from a customer, all ports work but a good bunch of them do not light for some reason) that I'd like to just connect to the existing network line in the back room and have it piggyback essentially so all the machines in the back room can have internet access.
I'm just wondering how I should go about wiring and setting up this switch to work properly, as it's been awhile since I've done this, and the last time I did, it was with the ancient 1900 series switches :).
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello,
basically, it depends on if you have different VLANs implemented in your current network or not. If not, you could just connect the 2950 to one of the Linksys switches, using a crossover cable. The default VLAN for all ports on the 2950 is VLAN 1, so all you have to do is plug your computers into the (working) ports of the 2950, without configurung anything else.

  • Connecting two san switch in cascade

I am planning to connect two San switch in cascade because the 2/16 san switch that I am using now only have one unused port and I am planning add four server more. So my less expensive solution is using a second 4/16 switch that I have.
    - My questions
    How I do that ?
Do I need a special license?
Do I need some other change in the ports configuration for this purpose?
    Some care I must take?
    Thank you
    Ehab

The answers to your questions are really going to depend on the make and model of your switches.
Some switch types require a license to configure E_Port (switch-to-switch) functionality, but most do not. Whichever port(s) you use to make the connection will need to either be configured as an E_Port or configured in a mode that will allow it to auto-negotiate itself to E (this could be a GL_Port, Gx_Port, or U_Port depending on switch vendor) after the switches establish communication.
If the switch that you are adding has some zoning defined on it that is different than the existing switch then you may run into some conflicts so it is often best to just clear the zoning config on the switch that is being added. Finally, you would want to make sure that each switch has a unique Domain ID otherwise the two switches will segment and not merge. By default, most switches are set to Domain ID 1 so just make sure they are both not set to 1.

  • Can i use labview to capture and process images from ip cameras connected to a switch.

    Hi,
i have more then one ip cameras conneted in LAN by a switch. i have a PC conneted to same switch. is it possible to capture images from these ip cameras and process them(for example performing simple barcode scan or QR-code scan or OCR)?  Which IP cameras will be supported?

There is functionally no difference whether the camera is connected directly to the system or via a switch. Both should work the same. The only real requirement that you'd need to care about is whether the switch can pass multicast UDP traffic correctly (this is used for network discovery of IP cameras). Generally all unmanaged switches (probably what you are using) will treat multicast traffic identical to broadcast traffic, but some managed switches/routers may need to be configured to pass multicast.

  • T420 - external 24" monitor DVI- Displayport : not detected when connected via KVM switch

    Hi,
I've been using a 2port USB KVM Switch from InLine for a long time connecting a mac mini and a macbook pro
to a 24" LCD. Recently I had to replace the MacBookPro with a T420. Unfortunately the T420 does not detect the
monitor, when connected via the KVM switch.
    I tried:
    A) T420 -> Lenovo Displayport to DVI-Adapter -> KVM-Switch -> 24" monitor: NO SUCCESS
    B) T420 -> Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> KVM Seitch -> 24" monitor : NO SUCCESS
    C) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
    D) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 VGA Port -> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
So I have a workaround, but leaving out the KVM switch is not a long term option.
This is all on Win 7 professional / 64bit
Using config (A) I then installed the Intel HD Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2342 16 May 2011
SURPRISE: during driver install, the monitor WAS detected!!!
SECOND SURPRISE: after reboot I was back in the old situation where the monitor was NOT DETECTED
    CONCLUSION:
Seems like a software issue with the Intel HD Graphice driver.
    ANY HINT/COMMENT/HELP highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Michael

    hey mgold,
as the T420 works correctly with the external monitor and with the miniDock ; it is sad to say the the KVM switch is non-compatible.
I would recommend that you get in contact with the manufacturer of the KVM. At the same time, try uninstalling the current video drivers of your T420 and see if it makes any difference with the KVM if the T420 is running on a generic driver
