Connection type explanation

Could someone explain briefly what the different connection types mean?  I've only found a very brief one line explanation of each and I'm still not exactly clear on what each type refers to in real life terms.  An example of each type would be really helpful if possible.

Thanks in advance.

I asked myself the same question, can someone elaborate more on this?

  • Passivate option in VO transient attributes & AM connection type

    Hi
    My English isn't very good.
    I use Jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0
    I have 2 questions:
    1. I defined some View Obj and in each View Obj I made transient attributes. I don't know if the Passivate option of these transient attributes should be enable or not?
    2. for AM connection type I use JDBC DataSource : "jdbc/ConnectionName". If I change JDBC DataSource to "java:comp/env/jdbc/ConnectionName", does it exist any difference?
    Habib

If your transient attributes are updateable, but you use them only within the scope of a single request (e.g. you set the value within a particular request and use it only until the end of this request but not later), then you do not have to passivate them. However, if they are updateable and you need their values to survive across multiple requests, then you must ensure that these attributes are passivated. In order to configure them to passivate you should do the following:
    1. Check the checkbox "Passivate State (e.g. Current Row, Bind Variables, etc.)" in the section "General/Tunning" in VO's definition dialog box;
    2. Either check the checkbox "Including All Transient Values" in the same section or leave it unchecked but check the checkbox "Passivate" in the definition of the corresponding VO attributes.
N.B. The setting "Include All Transient Values" affects not only the transient VO attributes but the SQL-derived VO attributes (that are not entity-based) too.
The configuration parameter "jbo.txn.disconnect_level" has nothing to do with passivation/activation. The correct way to test if your VOs behave correctly under passivation/activation is to disable AM pooling (e.g. to uncheck the checkbox "Enable Application Module Pooling" in the corresponding AM Configuration dialog box). When AM Pooling is disabled ADF passivates the corresponding AM state at the end of each HTTP request and activates it at the beginning of next request and so on. In this way you can check if your VOs are passivation/activation-safe.
Please, have a look at the article [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/b31974/bcstatemgmt.htm#sm0318]Application State Management in the documentation for more information and detailed explanation.

  • How do I connect my Centro to the Internet via bluetooth over PC's Internet? Where is Centro's PPP Connection Type? How do I setup Login Script for bluetooth connection?

I am trying to set up bluetooth on the Centro to connect to the internet via my PC's internet.
    HotSync over bluetooth works successfully.
Computer specs: Toshiba P205-S6277; Bluetooth Stack v5.10.04 (currently using); Bluetooth Monitor v3.01 (to use Vista's built-in bluetooth)
I think I have narrowed my problem down to 3 things.
    (1) Finding Network Access properties (to allow connected devices to access the internet)
    (2) Finding Centro's Network Connection Type: PPP
    (3) Finding the correct Login Script to use
for (1) I think I've looked everywhere; found nothing on Network Access.
Checked control panel: only Bluetooth Local COM
Right-clicked bluetooth icon > Settings: File transfer, PAN Networking, PAN DHCP server, AV controls. Other bluetooth settings are for file transfer or object push. I don't see anything like this.
I'm stumped on (2). It seems as if palm removed this option under Centro's Advanced network settings .
Nearly all the forums that I read says to choose Connection Type: PPP.
    (3) Found 2 scripts that seemed would work. I don't know how it exactly works but it sounds workable.
    First script:
    Send: CLIENT
    Send: CLIENT
    Wait for: CLIENTSERVER
    End:
    Script 1 Connect Log:
    =======================================
    Connect Log
    S: client
    S: client
    R:
    Err: 0x121F   <<<netErrUserCancel b/c I canceled it.
    Not connected
    ========================================
I canceled it because the process would stay on "Signing In" then it automatically "Canceled" itself.
    Second script:
    Send CR:
    Delay: 1
    Send: CLIENT
    Wait For: CLIENTSERVER
    End
**UPDATE** I found on this forum (Reply # 3689) that the script is needed only if you are using Palm OS 4 or under. Centro uses Palm OS 5.49121. Can anyone support this?
Even without the script it has problems "Signing In".
I'm currently reading this site and trying out its decribed methods. I will update this thread when I get the results.
I'm using the Centro. And If anyone's been able to successfully connect to the internet on the Centro via a bluetooth connection to the PC WITHOUT 3rd party applications, please share.  If not, please share any ideas.
    Thanks!

I've been going at this for days, and have probably exhausted all the proposed solutions on the first 3 pages of various google searches. I'm getting the feeling that Vista users are pretty much SOL for the time being.
For the record, I just tried out a few of the solutions (mRouter & SoftickPPP) on XP and they work perfectly.

  • Missing Connection Types in Report Data Source Properties

I am running three installations of SharePoint 2013 with SQL 2012 for Business Intelligence, with Kerberos working.
I have been having intermittent issues with SQL Reporting Services in a multi-server configuration, but finally had it working in all three environments.  We discovered many of our issues were caused by master page customizations which we have now disabled
temporarily while we work on function issues.
However, we started having a new problem with Reporting Services on just ONE of the environments, and we are not sure what happened.  Most everything appears to still be working, except Reporting Services. I have verified that features are enabled
in both the farm and the site collection, as well as insured managed content types are being allowed on the target document libraries.  I also verified the Reporting Service properties and database connections.  However, I have found two clear symptoms
which I can find no other information regarding (in logs or in online searches):
    1) If we try to create a new "Report Data Source" using the SharePoint UI, it will open a new Data Source Properties window, but in the "Data Source Type" field, there are no values available for me to select my connection type (e.g.,
    Microsoft SQL Server).
    2) In Central Administration, while administering the Reporting Services Service Application, I can manage a majority of the settings, including System Settings, Manage Jobs, Key Management, etc.  However, if I click on the link for "E-mail Settings,"
I get the dreaded "Sorry Something went wrong screen," with an error saying that "Object reference is not set to an instance of an object."
So I am hoping someone has an idea of where I can look for additional information on this issue, or even better, knows what I am missing to get Reporting Services functional again in this environment!
Thanks in advance for any help provided.
    Elohir

However, we started having a new problem with Reporting Services on just ONE of the environments, and we are not sure what happened.
    Hi Elohir,
I assume you are installing Reporting Services SharePoint mode for SharePoint 2013, you need to:
    1. Install "Reporting Services – SharePoint" and "Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint Products" on the SharePoint server that the SSRS service will run on.  All other SP servers only need the "Reporting Services
    add-in for SharePoint Products."
    2. Run the Insall-SPRSService and Install-SPRSServiceProxy on Central Admin and SSRS server.
    3. Start SSRS Service only on desired SSRS servers.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219068.aspx
Since the issue occurs only to one of the environments, please provide more information about your multi-server configuration, and point out the server where the issue occurs.

  • Authentication error when creating EPM Add-in connection with SAP BO Enterprise connection type

    Hello, Experts,
I have a problem with creation of EPM Add-in connection when SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise connection type is selected.
An error message is "Error while communicating with the server. Framework message: Authorization failed."
Here are the steps that were implemented and how this issue was reproduced:
SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation 10.0 SP12 for Microsoft was installed and configured.
Integration between SAP BPC and SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.1 SP02 was implemented. SAP BO users can successfully connect to SAP BPC system.
EPM connector was successfully installed and deployed in SAP BusinessObjects BI server.
BPC ODBO 2.0 SP04 64BIT was installed in SAP BusinessObjects server.
EPM connection was successfully created in SAP BusinessObjects CMC.
EPM Add-in and BPC ODBO 2.0 SP04 32BIT was installed in another computer (let's call it CLIENT) which has MS Office 2007 32BIT installed.
From CLIENT computer we have launched Excel manually and successfully created BPC connection with Connection Type - Local.
Then we have logged into BI Launch Pad and launched New / EPM document (Excel). Excel has started.
In EPM Add-in we have pressed Logon.
In connection window selected SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise connection type.
An error "Error while communicating with the server. Framework message: Authorization failed." appears.
Before this error appears we are not getting any window where we could select EPM connection (created in CMC) nor the possibility to enter username or password.
Looking forward you valuable comments and suggestions.
    Thank you in advance.
    Donatas Budrys

    Dear, Roberto,
Our user has Full Access to all BPC tasks and it is administrator in BI system.
Also we can successfully connect with the same user using Connection type "Local".
We had done some investigation and in the BPC SQL Server trace log we can catch the following message when an error occurs:
    ==============[System Error Tracing]==============
[System  Name] : BPCXMLAService [Message Type] : ErrorMessage [Job Name]    : ValidateUser [DateTime]    : 04/23/2014 10:58:06 [UserId]      : [Exception]    DetailMsg  : {System.Exception: Invalid user    at SAP.BPC.Services.Webservice.XMLAService.XMLAService.ValidateUser()} ==============[System Error Tracing  End ]==============
It is very interesting that after the EPM workbook is launched via BI Launch Pad till an error occurs we are NOT provided with possibility to enter any username and password. So the EPM add-in should use the same user which was logged into BI Launch Pad - in our case the user with administrative rights both in BI Launch Pad and BPC systems. Am I missing anything?
    Looking forward your feedback.
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,
    Donatas

  • PC Suite - no USB and Serial Connection Type avail...

I have been trying to solve this problem for days now. I have Windows XP and Nokia 5310. After I installed Nokia PC Suite, there is no USB or Serial connection type in the Connection Manager; it only has Blue Tooth and Infrared conection available. I have install and uninstalled PC suite and used PC Suite Cleaner to clean the installation. I also went into the add and remove program in the control panel and click on "change" to fix the Nokia Connection Manager and Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver. It still didn't work. The thing is that the first time when installed PC Suite on my laptop, it did have USB connection option. Later after uninstalled PC Suite and reinstalled it, it start to have this problem. I am extremly frustrated. Can anyone help please?

Thanks for your reply. I have solved the problem by following your instruction below:
Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Software, there you need to uninstall all Nokia software (Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Cable driver, PC Connectivity Solution ...)
Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner
    Reboot your computer
Download and install PC Suite here.
Connect your phone via USB cable (if possible use a different USB jack) and follow the instructions on the screen.
Maybe when I uninstalled Chinese version of PC suite, the order in which it was uninstalled was not the one you suggested above. So,I followed your instruction and uninstall order to uninstall PC Suite again. I also uninstalled all the antivirus, spyware, and firewall before I reinstall the PC Suite. It worked; then, I reinstalled all the other security software again after I had reinstalled the PC Suite. Although it worked, I still didn't know what exactly cause the problem the first place, PC Suite version, Security protection software, or the order which it was uninstalled? All it matters is it's working.

  • PC Suite - there is no available connection type

    OK,
I'm running XP SP2 on an IBM t30 laptop. Looking to have all 3 connection methods available. Bluetooth is Widcomm 3.0.x and PC Suite version is 6.8.22.
Initially installed PC Suite fine, but had problems with getting bluetooth connection (IRComm and Cable were fine). Read that best way round this was the reinstall after doing some fiddling with the bluetooth setup. Duly reinstalled, only now I get error when I start the connection manager or manage connections. either "there is no available connection type" for the first or "connection to PC suite failed code:Init IMediaControl2".
In order to try and deal with this I have, Uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Uninstalled the app and run the PC Suite cleanup tool 3.3 reinstalled the app. Uninstalled the app, run PC suite cleanup, removed all nokia keys from the registry, run cleanup again and reinstalled. The problem persists, my patience does not.
    Help?
    Dom

My experience may also be relevant, and since it took me two whole days to remedy it (call me slow, but I'm persistent), I'll share it. I too stopped being able to get a Bluetooth connection in PC Suite, even though the PC could see the phone (6230) in Bluetooth settings and I could see some of the folders on the phone.
I uninstalled and reinstalled PC Suite countless times, did all the spring cleaning I was told to do, nothing. So I thought maybe there is a problem with the Bluetooth stack.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, which uses Bluetooth stuff from Toshiba, so I went to their site, http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/. It said to check out Device Manager, and, what do you know, all the Toshiba Bluetooth drivers were missing. I have no idea how, but anyway, I downloaded a new stack at http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/pages/download.php
I installed it, cross my fingers, prayed to the Bluetooth Fairy, and YES YES YES! It works. The end.

  • PC Suite says no connection types available - but ...

    I've a 6500 Slide. I've installed the latest PC Suite 7.0.8.2.
I have Windows XP with Service Pack 3.
I used to be able to connect with PC Suite and update (etc.) but recently, after the most recent PC Suite upgrade, it doesn't recognise 'CONNECTION TYPES' on my machine.
The USB cable and port work fine - in Windows I can drag and drop files.
So why won't PC Suite recognise the cable and allow me to use the mobile through PC Suite?
I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything twice.
I've removed batteries and SIM cards from the mobile etc.
    All help gratefully received.
    Thanks

I have the same problem too...may be its the new pc suits problem....
i uninstalled the new one and installed an older version but my problem got worse...now my N70 hardware wount even install...
It says, unable to install n70 USB phone parent ....
    Please give a solution...

  • CBMA issue in PI 7.31 - Connection type is RFC rather than JMS.

    Hi,
I am facing issue with CBMA in production PI 7.31 which is working perfectly in quality system. I configured alert rules and scheduled AlertConsumerJob also. Configured alerting.isactive to true and alerting.target to '1'.
I observed that Message Alert configuration from PIMON is routed to alert framework rather than to the page where rules that are created in ID are displayed. From nwa->soa->monitor->Message Alert Configuration, able to see the rules created in ID. Does correcting this helps me?
Not sure if this is correct or not, but i even tried pinging the url http://host:port/AdapterFramework/alerting/ping.jsp, which shows Connection type as RFC in production. In quality it was JMS. Is this the issue? Please guide me.

    Hi all,
In BO I have changed the external address on DNS say abc.com
Now when I try to access the dashboard internally it gives the error trying to access xyz.com which was previous external ip.
    The error I get is
To access external data, add a cross-domain policy file to the external data web server.
For more information, on the Adobe website, see the article "Cross-domain Policy File Specification".
If the problem persists, contact the file creator or your system administrator.
    Error: Error #2170
    Connection Type: Web Service
    File URL: http://abc.com...
    External Data URL: http://xyz.com...."

May be in connections, you have hardcoded the server as xyz.com. It is always advisable to use relative url so that the servername and port is resolved in runtime.
Also, check in CMC > Applications > Web Service > Properties what is the server name specified ? Is it still the old one ?

  • PI 7.1 FTP(S) - adapter with implicit connection type?

    Hi,
We have encountered some issues involving FTP connection with SSL/TLS because the standard FTP - adapter in SAP PI 7.1 doesn't support the connection type "implicit". Many of our customers use FTP servers with connection type implicit and are somewhat reluctant or unable to configure the server to accept explicit connection type.
Now, I wonder if there is any patch or update which makes the FTP adapter to communicate with connection type "implicit"?
Or if you have another workaround for us to utilize?

please refer this blog for the FTPs connection.

  • Which connected type do you recommend?

    Hi,
Which "connected type" do you recommend?
    Why is it recommended?
    Thanks,
    Y.

    It depends.
The basic connection type uses the jdbc thin (type 4) driver. This means that you don't need oracle client software installed - all you need is SQLDeveloper. The down side is that the thin driver doesn't support all the available features. Things like operating system authentication, fast connection failover, and some of the more complex data types are not supported.
The TNS connection type uses the OCI driver. This means that you must have an oracle client installed (and it must match the version of the jdbc driver provided with SQLDeveloper.) This lets you use more features.
I always use Basic connections, but I don't need any of the missing features.

  • SQL Developer 2.1.0.63 duplicate TNS names displayed in the Connection Type

I'm running SQL Developer 2.1.0.63. The New Connection window displays duplicate Alias names when you select the Connection Type of TNS. I've made sure that the TNS_ADMIN variable name is all in upper case in the Environment Settings but I haven't had any luck eliminating the duplicates. I've tried filling in the TNSNames directory on the preferences setting but this didn't help either. I've also checked my system and I don't have multiple version of TNSNAMES (we keep a public copy on a network share). Does anybody have any suggestions?
We also have SQL Developer 1.5.5 and we don't have this duplicate problem in that version.

I found the problem, it was in the TNSNames file. SQL Developer 2.1 is more sensitive to a messy TNSNames file. This past fall we reworked our environment with new hardware and OS software, during the multiple rounds of testing we created various temporary test databases. The entries that were added to the TNSNames file never got cleaned up and in some cases were added in a random fashion. After I went in and cleaned up some of the old, dead entries I noticed that there were duplicate entries for one of our Development databases. After I removed the duplicate entry in the TNSNAMES file all of the duplicates displayed on the Connection Type screen disappeared. Problem solved.

  • Crystal Reports Connection Types

I have a web server that houses a db2 database.  For those users who are not on the network, I would like users to run reports from the "cloud" (the internet).  Does anyone know how I can do that?  What connection type I can use?  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA,
    Zack H.

    Zack,
my team has had a bit of experience doing this and it really depends on your setup.
    1) how is your db2 database exposed to the internet when one is off of your network...is it in a DMZ or is it accessible via IP without having to use a gateway like citrix gateway?
if it is accessible via IP have a look at the Wire Protocol drivers made by data direct.
    /people/crystalreports.team/blog/2008/08/29/datadirect-odbc-drivers-53--for-crystal-reports-2008
    2) how will your users run the reports...as Don mentioned, you have to have a method to serve up the reports first off. or they would have to have a copy of the crystal reports 2008 designer like you do and have a copy of the applicable reports.
the other thing you can look at if you don't have a setup right now is On Demand to host the reports in the cloud
    http://www.ondemand.com/businessintelligence/
we have a bunch of machines in a dmz which include businessobjects enterprise to serve up the reports as well as all of the database servers themselves. the reports are accessed by the end users via opendocument hyperlinks and thus secured by infoview. in our case the database itself does not have any open ports to the internet, only infoview does.
    i hope this helps out,
    jw
