Continue Buttons & Jump to Slide buttons...

I have a presentation with 123 slides.
The presentation is a training module that consists of
submodules.
I have a menubuilder project that launches the main training
module.
The training module is published as one exe file.
The last slide at the end of each submodule has two text
buttons:
Continue, which is set to- On success 'Continue'.
Main Menu, which is set to- On success 'Jump to slide' 123
END,
which is the last slide in the project. Under project
preferences I
have set the project end options action to close project.
The two buttons work fine in preview mode,
but when published, the continue button works,
but the main menu button does not do anything.
Did I overlook something?
Thanks in advance.
Update- lesson learned?
I had originally created the first two Continue and Main Menu
buttons on slide 36.
I just copied and pasted the buttons from slide 36 on to the
slides at the other 5 places I needed the two buttons.
I guess this does not work, but I am not sure why. After
remaking the two buttons (in lieu of copy/paste) on the 5
additional needed locations, the presentation works. Is this common
behavior?
**********************************************************

I think you'll find this is by design.
Every object inside a Captivate movie has a unique ID.  The slide number and even slide name that you give the slide are just labels assigned to the object. The object's ID is probably some randomly generated number that you never see. So if you've set up a slide action to jump to another slide in the original movie, there's no guarantee such a slide with the same unique ID will exist in the next movie that slide gets copied into.
So the developers of Captivate seem to have designed it so that copying a slide from one project to another will default back to certain settings that are safe.
Additionally, you will find that if you copy a caption or some other slide element from one project to another, Captivate will rename the Item Name.  This is once again to prevent conflicts where more than one item in a movie might end up with the same ID and cause instability.
So, although the way Captivate is designed may mean extra work for you when you copy slides across, it will prevent your movie from becoming corrupted or unstable.

  • CS 5.5. Advanced actions enable a button that jumps to slide... when revisited, button only continue

Essentially, I have a slide with six buttons on it.... five that navigate to other pages as an interaction, and a continue button that breaks the loop and moves the user forward in the lesson. I have an advanced action that shows the continue button after all other buttons have been used. The problem:
When a user navigates back to this interaction hub, the enabled continue button doesn't jump to the proper slide... it slowly just moves into a slide in the loop.
Any idea why a continue button would no longer jump to the proper page after it has been activated?

    Hi there
Actually I do believe there is a way to make the behavior what you want. But I'll address your issue for making things known to Adobe first. Adobe has something called the "Wish Form/Bug Reporting Form" that they monitor. So you use that. (Link to that is in my sig line)
As for the button issue, you can accomplish it using Advanced Actions. What you need to do is to manipulate the Playhead to keep it paused. One way is by configuring the variable rdcmndGotoFrame with the value rdinfoCurrentFrame. Sometimes this works to just keep the playhead paused. Other times I've tried to do it with some success by repositioning the playhead farther upstream and allowing it to "float" back to the pause point of the object. And to do this you use the variable rdcmndGotoFrameAndResume and assigning it the frame number earlier in time. Of course, to do this you must first calculate the frame number to position at. I normally did this by inserting a Text Caption configured to present the rdinfoCurrentFrame variable and manipulating the pause points using a Click Box object to arrive at the desired value.

  • Button-jump to slides not working

    Hi!
I have created a content menu for my project. Created several
buttons on the same slide. Only the first one works - which links
to the next page. The rest of the buttons don't link to the slides
though I have set it to "jump to slide - 5 slide 5".
    Please advise. Thanks!!

Hi Cherry_t and welcome to our community
I've seen this behavior before. In the case I saw, the user
had inserted question slides that were placed between where the
jump was supposed to go and the slide they were on at the time they
clicked the menu item. You may wonder what this would have to do
with impeding progress. Well, it's not so much the fact you have
Question slides, but if my hunch is correct, you also have enabled
a setting for quizzing that says each question MUST be answered
    before the project can continue.
So take a look at the following setting: Project > Quiz
Manager... > Quiz Settings tab and look at the second field
labeled: Required. My guess is that it may say "Required - the user
must take the quiz to continue".
    Cheers and happy Friday! Rick

  • Captivate 5.5 Buttons and Jump To Slide Not Working

I have a home slide where users can choose from 10 state-specific training options.  There are 178 slides in the total presentation.  When I open the presentation fresh a couple of the buttons work and jump to the correct state.  One button jumps to a different slide than what is defined and the rest of the buttons do not work at all.  If I select one of the buttons that works then return to the beginning of the presentation all the buttons work fine.  The problem occurs when I open a fresh copy of the published presentation from my hard drive.  The buttons are all active and there is no click box on the slide - you need to click on one of the state buttons to continue past the initial slide.  I cannot understand why this is not working or why everything works fine when I return to the home slide from somewhere else in the presentation.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi there
Buttons may seem a bit hit and miss and may be daunting with all the Active VS Inactive timeline bits and all. But I've really never known them to totally fail or be all that random.
    Things to consider with Buttons.
    What does the button do?
As I explained in my earlier reply, if a button is programmed to jump to a slide a lot farther down the track, and that portion of the track hasn't yet arrived from the server, this could well be an issue.
Another thing that can affect whether a button operates as you wish is if you are trying to jump to a slide that is beyond a Question slide (or a slide being treated as a Quiz slide) and your Quiz settings are configured so that each question must be answered before you may proceed. Captivate will disallow visiting a slide beyond the first unanswered question.
Sometimes a Button is configured to open a URL or a file. And it works fine during preview within Captivate, but fails after you publish. This is most often an issue with Flash Security Settings blocking the action and is described at the link below:

  • Slide transition not smooth when using a continue button

Hopefully someone can help me with this issue. I'm not new to Captivate, but cannot resolve this one on my own. I'm using CS4.
I've created a Captivate movie that has a combination of software simulation and simple slides that have a caption on them. The ones with the captions also include a continue button that pauses the movie so the user can read the information and then when they click the continue button, the movie continues. Simple enough. The problem is when I playback the movie, the slides that have a continue button blink when transitioning from one slide to the next. It looks like the background image (same on all slides) is blinking, which it should not. The settings are set not to transition, so it looks smooth.
The slides that do not have a button transition just fine, looking as if it is one continuous slide. This blinking is quite annoying and distracts from the smooth transition of the rest of the movie. Has anyone else noticed this, and have you found a solution to fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Stevie G

    Hi there
What is the Button programmed to do?
    * Continue
    * Go to next slide
My thought here is that if it's jumping to the next slide, perhaps try using Continue and configure timing so it may appear without the flash?

  • Continue button on Quiz Results slide not working...

    Hi there,
Having some significant difficulties in Captivate 3 recently
    - but this one appears to be a deal breaker...
The continue button which appears at the bottom of the quiz
results page doesn't work - as in, it doesn't do a thing even
though in preferences I've set pass/fail preference for it to jump
to different slides depending on success or failure. I have tried,
literally, everything I can think of but it refuses to work.
Anyone got any suggestions? I would be over the moon if I
    could get this working.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi J
Sorry that didn't seem to work for you. Hopefully someone

Until that happens, you (as well as anyone else seeing this

  • Jump to slide - Button problem

    Hello,
I'm using Captivate 5 on XP.
I have a project with a couple of different chapters. After each chapter I've put a self made question slide, basically just a multiple choice sort of question with 2-4 possible answers. If you click on the correct answer you jump to a slide saying you answered correctly and if you click on the wrong answer you get to a slide saying you answered incorrectly.
After you answer a question correctly you get back to the main menu. The idea is that you complete all the chapters and answer the questions correctly to complete the course.
The problem is with the last chapter and the question in the end. When you try to click on the correct answer nothing happens. When you click on the wrong answers you get to the slide you answered incorrectly. Say you click on the correct answer, you're supposed to jump to slide X, but instead it continues to the next slide.
I have tried to create a new button and also tried to create an advanced action saying "jump to slide X". Same result.
The thing is that it always happen to the last chapter, not necessarily the last one in the list. Say I start from the buttom and work my way up the list of chapters, the problem is always with the last chapter you try to finish.
Any idea of what the problem could be?
    Kind regards,
    Patrik

I'll see if I can explain it better.
Slide 1 starts and plays text and graphics. It runs for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, my Back and Next buttons appear. The user can then proceed to Slide 2.
Slide 2 starts and plays text and graphics. It runs for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, my Back and Next buttons appear.
Let's say the user hits the Back button on Slide 2. They are then taken back to Slide 1.
I don't want them to have to watch Slide 1's contents (15 seconds) all over again.
If the user moves again to Slide 2 by hitting the Next button (on Slide 1), I don't want them to have to watch Slide 2 (20 seconds) all over again. They have seen slide 2's information already. I want them to see the Next button right away.
Basically this....if a user has been through a slide before, I don't want them to have to watch it all over again.

  • Continue Button on Quiz Results Slide NOT Working Properly

I'm experiencing a functionality issue with the "Continue"
button on the Quiz Results slide:
Situation 1: After initially completing the quiz, I need to
click the "Continue" button on the Quiz Results slide only once to
advance to the next (and last) slide in the quiz movie. This is
fine & works as I would expect.
Situation 2: After initially completing the quiz, if instead
I choose to review the quiz, later when I get to the Quiz Results
slide, I need to click the "Continue" button TWICE to advance to
the next (and last) slide in the quiz movie. This does NOT work as
    I would expect.
Any idea why only 1 click is needed in the Situation 1 while
2 clicks are needed in Situation 2? Any way to fix Situation 2 so
that only 1 click is needed?
    Thanks much!

    CapManZ,
Whether the Continue button on the Quiz Results slide
requires one or two clicks is mysterious indeed. See
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=67&catid=464&threadid =1302278
for another discussion about its misbehavor.
Actually, the number of clicks required depends on how long
you wait after the Quiz Results slide appears, prior to clicking
the Continue button. In your situation 1 you probably answered
questions rather than using the skip button, so you viewed the
question slides for a while prior to arriving at results. In your
situation 2 you probably used the Skip button to zip through the
slides to return to the results screen. Try this. In situation 2,
when you get to the Quiz Results slide, instead of clicking the
Continue button, go get a cuppa joe and then see if a single click
will work. If so please let me know.
I've experimented with a Captivate 2 multiple choice quiz in
a slide show that contained only 10 questions and the Results
slide. I added a text caption with fade in and fade out enabled
(the default) to the Results slide. I found that after the caption
fades in, one click on the continue button advances the slide. So I
used the caption's appearance to help measure the timing.
In the tests below I skipped as rapidly as possible, pausing
at various slides to see how it affected the single click
    threshold.
    Skip all slides: 28 sec
View slide 1 for 60 sec and then skip: 28 sec
Skip to slide 5, pause 30 sec, and then skip: 13 sec
Skip to slide 10, pause 30 sec, and then skip: 2-3 sec
Answer each slide (took more than 30 sec): 2-3 sec
Skip all slides, click Continue as fast as possible: 2-3 sec
I also reduced the number of question slides in the quiz and
    skipped all slides.
    7 questions: 18 sec
    3 questions: 7 sec
I believe the threshold value (the duration required before
clicking the Continue button advances to the next slide) is
composed of two durations which add together to determine the
threshold. The Result's slide's timeline probably sets the
threshold's lower limit. Clicks prior to 3 seconds are ignored.
Time per slide and number of slides left to go sets the upper limit
for the threshold. The slower the movement, the lower the
    threshold.
    Several conclusions:
This probably isn't a situation in which the first click is
ignored. Instead the first click reduces the threshold's value to
the lower limit. The second click would then typically occur after
3 additional seconds, particularly if the user is surprised that
the first click didn't work and pauses slightly. A very fast
additional click on the Continue button is ignored as well.
Long quizzes will cause more complaints about the issue
because of what you experienced. It typically takes longer to
answer the quiz than review it.
Perhaps there's a workaround that would alert the user that
the Continue button is ready for clicking. I'm thinking that since
the text caption fade-in coincides with being ready to continue, an
image or the like might do the trick. Any suggestions out there?
Humm, a better alternative might be to show some images of
snacks on the results slide background. Through suggestive selling,
the user realizes it's time for a break and clicks Continue after
returning with that cuppa joe. And the sound you hear? It's the
Captivate developers giggling if they read my conclusions. Too bad
they're mum, since some real info might make it easier to make
    Captivate behave. Ah well.

  • Continue button on Quiz Results Slide not working Captivate 7

I have the Quiz Settings set to Continue when the user passes the quiz. However, when the user clicks the Continue button on the Quiz Results Slide, nothing happens. I want the user to be able to continue to the next (and final!) slide in the project. The timing for the Quiz Results slide is set to be active for 7 seconds. Umm, suggestions for a fix? Thanks. This problem has been driving me nuts since I'm so close to finishing!

I changed the timing on the results slide back down to being active for 1.5 seconds so that's what will show up in the screen shot below. I also included a screen shot for the Pass/Fail settings. Thanks.

  • When making Question Slides, the "Your Score" screen has a CONTINUE button on it but it doesn't continue

I can't remove it. I can't change it so it moves the user
forward to the next slide. I can't insert a new button. I might
    lose my mind. Any suggestions?

Hi jwcrews and I too welcome to our community
Hopefully Andrew won't mind my offering up something here.
My last Captivate class had a student that reported her
project was behaving in a similar manner. Additionally, I've seen
other posts here that suggest the same thing. Multiple clicks to
    continue, etc.
Does your results slide contain audio? If so, what we found
as a potential issue with my student was that the Continue button
waited for the audio to complete before moving on.
If your results slide has no audio, one way to try and
overcome the long wait is by positioning the mouse pointer over the
pause point. Wait until the pointer changes to the left/right arrow
(indicating you may click and drag) and adjust the pause to perhaps
.2 seconds. Then drag the duration of the results slide to perhaps
    .4 seconds.
If your results slide does contain audio, one possible
workaround would be to create a totally new blank Captivate
project. Size it to the minimum size. I believe that would be 100 x
100 pixels. Add the audio to that and publish as a .SWF. Then drop
the .SWF into your results slide (Insert > Animation...). I'm
thinking this would somewhat abstract the audio from the timeline
of the Results and possibly overcome the timing issue.
Please keep us posted on what you find! Also, I again offer
apologies to Andrew for my unsolicited intrusion in the thread.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Continue button on Quiz Result slide not working

    Hi,
I really hope there's something easy I'm missing here. I've
created a quiz with 25 questions. I don't have it reporting to an
LMS, but I do have a quiz results slide. If the student gets a
passing grade, I've set the Continue button to go to the next slide
(where they get a congrats message and can print a certificate).
I'm publishing it as an SWF file. When I take the quiz and pass it,
the Continue button doesn't work. The way it is now, students are
stuck at the end of the quiz. Any ideas?

  • How to remove continue button from slide "Quiz Result"?

After clicking on the button gets the first slide. I want to remove the button. Help. I am a newbie. The settings are not found. Thank you

It's standards Captivate functionality that you cannot add Interactive Objects such as click boxes or buttons to the Quiz or Quiz Results slides.
If you're having  issues with the Continue button NOT working on the Quiz Results slides, check your Quiz Settings as shown in my earlier post on this thread.  It may be that you have the settings that make it mandatory for the user to pass the quiz before they'll be allowed to continue.
Check also in Quiz Settings in case the default Action for Pass or Failure is set to Continue.  It might be set to No Action or something else that the Continue button cannot do for some reason.
If none of the above seems to be the case, remove the Quiz Results slide (by turning off Show Results in Quiz Settings) and then turn it on again the same way.  If your project was upgraded from an earlier version of Captivate 3 or 4 it may be that the Quiz Results slide is currently defective.  It's happened to me when upgrading older projects to Cp5 format.  So re-generate the Quiz Results slide again and see if the Continue button now works better.
By the way, there's a button widget that ships with Captivate 5 which, because it's only a Static Widget and not an Interactive Widget, you CAN add it to the Quiz Results slide.

  • Jump to slide option not available for button Adobe 5.5

    Hi,
I am creating a frequently asked questions page using Adobe Captivate 5.5.  I am using buttons for each question (currently 8 button questions on the slide).  I would like to set the button to jump to another slide with the answer so the user gets the answer by clicking on the button question.  However in properties the jump to slide... option is gray while all other options work.
Does anyone know how to allow this option or can anyone offer suggestions for achieving the same results in a different way?
    Thanks,

  • Inconsistent Continue button function when Retake Quiz button is present

Hi, I am using Captivate 4 on a Win7 computer.  My problem is this.  I have setup a 10 question quiz at the end of my module.  On the results page (slide 37), I have a Review Quiz button, a Retake Quiz button, and a Continue button.  The user can retake the quiz if she/he likes, but, regardless of whether the user passes or fails the quiz, they are to hit the "Continue" button which should jump to one of two slides (slide 38 for "Congratulations" or slide 39 for "Sorry, you did not pass") and then it is to automatically continue to the next slide that says "Thank you" (slide 40) and then the Captivate module is to close automatically.  That's what is supposed to happen, and some of it does.  However, here's what does happen.  If the user passes the quiz and clicks the "Continue" button, everything works perfectly.  But, if the user fails the quiz and clicks the "Continue" button - nothing happens. The "Continue" button fails to work.  You click on "Continue" and nothing happens.  It just stays on the results page.  The slider does not advance either.  However, if I delete the "Retake Quiz" button, then the "Continue" button works perfectly whether the user passes or fails.  What is the fix here?  I'm guessing you might need more information.  I'l supply what I think might be relevant, below.
    The progression:
Slides 27 - 36 : 10 slides of quiz question (one question per slide)
    Slide 37 :  Results page
Slide 38 :  "Congratulations" slide for passing
Slide 39 :  "Sorry, you did not complete this course..." slide for failing
    Slide 40 :  "Thank you."
    Preferences/Quiz/Pass or Fail :
If passing grade: Action: Jump to slide 38
If failing grade: Allow user: 2 attempts
    Show Retake Button is checked
    Action: Jump to slide 39
    Preferences/Quiz/Settings :
Pass Required - the user maust pass this quiz to continue
Thank you.  Please let me know if you need any more information.
    Jorge Gonzalez

    D. Sharma,
Hi, sorry, all this time when you were saying "it" I thought you were referring to the Captivate module that includes the quiz.  I didn't realize you were referring to the quiz alone.
Here's what I have: the module contains the quiz in it.  In other words, the quiz was created in Captivate and is part of the module.  The problem I described happens whether the module (with the quiz in it) is published locally or on the LMS.  It makes no difference.  The problem persists.
    Sorry for the misunderstanding,
    Jorge G.

  • Continue button after failure result

    Hello,
I want to set the quiz to make the student review the course before retaking the quiz, so I have
set off the 'retake quiz' button,
set the "failure" setting to jump to slide starting the course.
So, continue button on the results slide jumps to the start of course (rather than start of quiz).
And I have given 3 attempts.
But when I test this, the clicking the continue button only works on the first two failures.
I have to click "rewind" on the third attempt in order to get to the quiz for the 3rd attempt.
Any ideas why this is? or what to fix?
    Thanks,
    Denise

    Hi there,
Please try the following work around and let us know it worked for you.
    Workaround 1:
    1. Enable 'Retake Quiz' button from Edit>Preferences>Quiz>Pass or Fail.
    2. Go to the Result Slide, Place the 'Retake Quiz ‘button in top of the Continue button.
Now whenever the user fails in the Quiz, 'Retake Quiz' button will take the precedence and allows the User to retake the Quiz, and once when the User passes the Quiz 'Retake Quiz' button will disappear and the 'Continue' button will display on the slide.
    Workaround 2
Otherwise try inserting a slide after the Result Slide with Two buttons(Retake and Continue), Write a small Script(to show and hide the Continue and Retake button whenever user passes and fails the Quiz) and set it as the slide's 'On Enter' action.
