Q:
I’ve the 1140 AP (LAP) flavor; can I convert it to Standalone access points?
If yes can you please explain how and if you have documentation that will be great.
Thank you all for reading and helping.

You can convert the AP from autonomous AP (aAP) to light-weight AP (LWAP) and vice versa.  It all boils down to the IOS you run.
If you have a WLC, ollow the proceedure below:
Using a Wireless LAN Controller to Return to a Previous Release
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html#wp157689
If you don't have a WLC, follow the proceedure below:
Using a Wireless LAN Controller to Return to a Previous Release
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html#wp157689
If you find my post helpful, please do not hesistate to rate.  Thank you very much.

  • How to configure IP Address filter in Controller based Access Points ?

    Dear Team,
    Configuration:
i have 5508 series controller and joined the two Thin APs to the controller. WLAN controller is connected to PC where Multicast receiver is running for two Multicast IP addresses (IP1: 230.1.1.1, IP2: 230.1.1.2). Multicast sender is running for two IP addresses on Station.
    Requirement:
When Station is associated to AP1, AP1 should block the multicast packets going to AP2 and vice versa . That is AP1 should be configured to block multicast packets going to 230.1.1.2 and AP2 should be configured to block multicast  packets going to 230.1.1.1.
    Thanks,
    Harsha

I believe you could apply ACLs and check if that helps.
For more details about configuring ACLs, please refer to the following link:

    Hope that helps.

  • Cisco module controller & 1131 access-point

I'm using a blade as a controller in a cisco router. trouble is it does not see
the 1131 access-points. does see 1020 access points. Any thoughts

If you are using OP 43 to tell the access points where to find the controllers you will need a new entry for the 1130 series of access points.

  • AIR-CAP1602E-N-K9 access point

    hi,
can any one help me to configure AIR-CAP1602E-N-K9 as standalone acess point.
its a new one with default setting as per my knowledege its a controller based access point so pls help how to convert into standalone access point and which image is compatible with that.

Converting a Lightweight Access Point Back to Autonomous Mode
You can convert an access point from lightweight mode back to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS Release that supports autonomous mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3(7)JA or earlier). If the access point is associated to a controller, you can use the controller to load the Cisco IOS release. If the access point is not associated to a controller, you can load the Cisco IOS release using TFTP.
Note In some LWAPP deployments, the LWAPP controller resides between the access points and the rest of the network. In this topology, all traffic must cross over the controller before communication with network resources, such as a TFTP server, can occur. When converting back to non-LWAPP IOS with an access point that is no longer using the LWAPP protocol, traffic does not cross over the controller to reach the TFTP server.
Note The lightweight 1300 series access points can only be converted back to autonomous mode using a wireless LAN controller.
Using a Wireless LAN Controller to Return to a Previous Release
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode using a wireless LAN controller:
Step 1 Log into the CLI on the controller to which the access point is associated.
    Step 2 Enter this command:
    config ap tftp-downgrade tftp-server-ip-address filename access-point-name
Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release
Note This section does not apply to Cisco C3201WMIC and Cisco C3201LAP.
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Set the timeout value on the TFTP server to 30 seconds.
Step 4 On the PC where the TFTP server is located, perform these steps:
    a. Disable any software firewall products, such as Windows firewall, ZoneAlarm firewall, McAffee firewall, or others.
    b. Ensure all Windows files are visible. From Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options > View; then uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
Step 5 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point, and c1250-k9w7-tar.default for a 1250 series access point.
Step 6 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 7 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 8 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 9 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 10 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 11 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.

    Hi,
For the Mesh APs, you must enter the MAC address in the MAC filter which is found in
Security > AAA > MAC Filtering. Note that Outdoor Mesh APs, the MAC address is the BVI mac address, for Indoor Mesh, it is the Ethernet MAC address.
Also, if you're using DNS for controller discovery, create a pointer record in your DNS with the following:
CISCO-CAPWAP-CONTROLLER.domainname - IP address of WLC

  • IOS 6.0.1 - Problems with certificate based authentication on wireless access point

    Hi all
We are using iPad 2 as order terminals in our shops for about 5 months. Some of the iPads (the first who entered the field) started to cause problems now. These iPads are no longer able to keep long-term connection to the wireless access point in our stores. After selecting the SSID a successful authentication using the stored EAP-TLS certificate is performed (this can be seen in the log files of our wireless controller and by the IP adress that is given by DHCP). But within seconds the affected iPads opening up a captive portal page (empty, without contents) and separates the connection to the SSID after a short time again.
Affected are currently only iPads 2 with iOS 6.0.1, which were staged about 5 months ago. The newer devices with iOS 6.1+ connect without problems and open no captive portal page. The first cases occurred on the last Wednesday. Before that everything worked without difficulty. No modifications took place on the security structure.  The numbers of affected devices increased until all iOS 6.0.1 were affected.
Access to other SSIDs (without use of certificates, by entering a key) for the devices is still possible (the devices does not open an captive portal page). The DHCP scope is not used up, so there are enough IP addresses available.
"Newer iPads" with an iOS of 6.1+ are are showing no problems on the same wireless access point, where the older devices are rejected. New and old devices use the same certificates and authentication mechanisms.
In the analysis of the issue, it turned out that  the problem can be solved by an update to iOS 6.1.3. Subsequently, the iPads will be able to rebuild a connection with the access point, without a captive portal page.
Since the bandwidth is very narrow dimensioned in our stores, the communication of the iPads was severely restricted. Thus, the iPads are for exampleare accessible for the APNS but can not find iOS updates or check for their availability.
A comprehensive update to iOS 6.1.3 is currently excluded.
Does anyone knows this issue? What else can be done (except from updating)?

I will answer my own question in case it helps anyone else.
It would "seem" the ios 6 devices try the proxy and if that is not working they resort to the def gateway.
To Fix I did the following:
Brocade WIFI network has IPS and Advanced Firewall rules that seemed to be tthwarting some traffic, the iphones would then try the default gateway and be blocked at the FW.
I disabled the IPS and the Advanced Firewall Settings on the wifi as they are redundant to our main IPS and firewall that all traffic flows through anyway.  I will tune it later, but when the CEO is demanding a fix "**** the security, full speed ahead"
Created some rues on the firewall to allow...
    - IMAP-SSL (port993) outbound
    - SMTPS (port 465) to yahoo servers outbound
    - tcp port 587 to yahoo servers outbound
    - https to akamai servers
Most http and https goes through the proxy as it should, BUT...
It seems that the akamai traffic allways ignores the wifi proxy settings and just heads straight for the default gateway.  I suspect there is a bug in the icloud app?
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • WAP4410N Access point and 4404 WLAN Controller.

    Hello to all,
I am planning to setup a new WLAN using WAP4410N Wireless N Access Point. Is it possible to manage the AP using 4404 WLAN controller ?

  • Manually add Access Point to 2504 Wireless Controller

We have a 2504 Wireless Controller and it works great!
We currently have 6 Access Points (Aironet 1252) connected.
We just added the sixth one a few weeks ago and with a properly configured and fully functioning Wireless Controller, it was super easy.
Now, I have been assigned to add another Access Point, but at a remote site.
The plan is to have up to three or more APs at this remote location and we want them to talk back to the Wireless Controller.
We have plenty of licences on our current Wireless Controller.
Do do not want to spend the funds for another Wireless Controller and more licenses.
    1. How does one manually add a Aironet 1252 to the 2504 Wireless Controller
    2. If the AP is on a different subnet than the Wireless Controller, how does one get it registered?
    3. The best for last: Can a Aironet 1252 talk to a 2504 Wireless Controller over a WAN link?
    If so, how?
    Thank you!

  • Wireless LAN Controller not broadcasting network to Access points

    Good Day Team,
I am working with a 2100 series WLC controller and 1100 series access point.
I noticed that the wireless lan controller is working. Also the access point is working.
The issue is that there is no internet connection on the access point.
    What could be the error?
    Kindly advice

Try do diagnose your problem following this steps:
    1) Connect to the wireless network
    2) Check your IP address with "ifconfig"
    3) Check if your gateway is set correctly with "route -n"
    4) Try to ping your gateway. Is it working?
    5) Try to ping an internet IP like google: "ping 74.125.234.115"
    6) Try to resolve names with "nslookup www.google.com" for example.
    7) Try to traceroute to an IP or name on internet. Check the result to see the last hop you reached.
    8) If you passed all those tests, try this: "telnet www.google.com 80"
If everything works, but not the test #8, your problem could be related to some proxy configuration.

  • AIR-CAP3501I access point not joining the Cisco 2100 Wireless Lan controller.

    Hello All,
I am installing a new LAP (AIR-CAP3501I ) through the wireless lan controller (AIR-WLC2112-K9) with software version 7.0. I have an external ADSL modem which will act as the DHCP server for the wireless clients and the LAP.
Please find my network setup as below:
The ISP ADSL modem , WLC and LAP are connected to a unmanaged POE switch. The LAP gets its power through the POE switch. When i connect the LAP and the WLC to the switch along with the ADSL modem, the LAPs are getting the ip address from the ADSL modem, however they are not joining the WLC for further process.
    ADSL Modem ip address: 192.168.1.254
Management ip address on the LAP: 192.168.1.1 ( Assigned to port 1, untagged Vlan).
Ap Manager ip address: 192.168.1.1 ( Assigned to the same port i.e port1, Untagged Vlan).
The LAP is getting an IP address from the ADSL modem in the range of the DHCP scope.
I will paste the logs very soon.
Please let me know if i am doing anything wrong oe what will be the issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mohammed Ameen

The Acess point joins the Controller for 2-3 seconds and then unjoins again. I am not sure what i am doing wrong here. The access points are getting the IPs from the ADSL modem through the switch, then it talks to the WLC, however it does not join the controller for further process.
    Note:
The Managemnet interface and the AP manager interface are assigned to the same port 1 with unassigned Vlan as mention above.
