Controls on JPanel auto-enlarge at random

Hi there
I have developed a small swing application that consists of a JTabbedPane containing two tabs. each tab contains a JPanel on which a JToolbar, JSplitPane, and a small JPanel reside. on the JToolbar are a number of controls like JTextFields, JComboBoxes, JLabels, JSlider, etc. I did not use a layout manager for the controls on the JToolbar, but placed the components where i wanted them and at the size I wanted them. Each time I start up the application, i find that sometimes (once every 3 times I start up the app), one of the controls on the one or both tabs tend to size to to the size of the tabsheet. This happens at random and mainly happens in Linux and sometimes in Windows. Is it possible that somebody can help me figure out why this happens and how to solve it? If you need some source code, I'll be glad to send you some.
Please help
Thanks
~Glen

I used setSize() and setLocation() methods to set the size and location of the components. I could of used setBounds, but I needed to use the two seporate methods. I use setPreferredSize() too. It is as if the java vm gets confused and decides to resize a component to the application window. Remember this happens at random. sometimes the app looks correct and sometimes it doesn't.

  • How to lock bottom control bar from auto-hiding in full screen mode

I am using Flash Player with ie in Win7. It is very irritating while watching YouTube videos for the status/control lbar to keep auto-hiding. When the bar auto-hides, the pause/play position becomes the progress bar position - and a click where Pause used to be resets the video to start. How can I keep the bottom control bar from auto-hiding in full screen mode?
Thank you, Steve  [email: [email protected]]

There's nothing you can do to Flash Player, itself, to prevent this from happening.  Apparently, there's no way to disable via youtube, or google, either  -- http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/youtube/_E5yFvNJCPk
You SHOULD be able to call up the bar by hovering the cursor at the bottom of the screen and then, after a a second or two,  click on the pause button.    (It shouldn't restart the video in other words.)  But, if for whatever reason,  this doesn't work,   just click once in the center of the screen to pause the video.   To restart,  click the center of the screen again.

  • How do you stop iOS 7 from auto enlarging your background picture?

How do you stop iOS 7 from auto enlarging your background picture? And before it's mentioned, no, Turing off Reduce Motion has absolutely NO effect on the auto enlarge feature that apple stupidly thought would be a good idea. The Reduce Motion ONLY stops the background from subtly shifting as you turn or angle the iDevice.

It should be my choice, not apples.
And I agree. But neither of us is a programming engineer at Apple, and so don't get to make those decisions. The user tip I wrote was based on the fact I didn't like it either, and was trying to figure out why it was scaling an image up in the first place, and then how to fix it as best as possible.
Since you've locked your iPad to one orientation, you should be able to copy your custom image off to your Mac (assuming you own one) and use an image editor, such as Photoshop Elements, to add pixel area to the narrow dimension to make it the same number of pixels as the larger dimension. Increase the canvas size so the extra space leaves the original narrower dimension centered, as in this example:
Copy it back to your iPad and select the modified image. Since it's square, it shouldn't scale.

  • Stop JPanel auto positioning and resizing in Netbeans

    Hi,
I'm working on a Swing application in Netbeans. In my program I had several JPanels. At any one time, only one JPanel is visible.
I dragged my JPanels to the JFrame in the Swing editor. Each time the user clicks on the switch function button, another JPanel should be displayed.
However, the new panel does not display correctly. It remained at the position where I had dragged (randomly) on Netbeans, instead of the new size and location I set it to prior to setting it visible. I tried to tinker with it, and realized that Netbeans helped me reposition my JPanel back to its original position. For my function to work, I suspect I should disable auto positioning and resizing.
How do I turn it off?
    Thanks in advance,
    eddy05

That's what the JComponent.setSize() and JComponent.setLocation() do right, to resize and relocate JComponents and its subclasses. This only sets the properties of that particular JComponent. The layout manager of the container that holds it can choose to use these properties or not depending on what layout manager is being used.
I wanted to perform the above functions, but Netbeans' behaviour keeps interfering, hence my request on how the behaviour can be turned off =)By dropping a JPanel into your JFrame (the JFrame's contentPane actually), NetBeans is by default going to use the GroupLayout, and the properties of the JComponent noted above will be ignored. One solution alluded to above is to have the JFrame's contentPane use a null layout, but while this might work in the short run, in the long run it will hurt you. Better is to read up on the various layout managers available for your use in the Sun Swing tutorials and start to play with them in your code.

  • Auto Sync / Remove Random not sure how to word it.

New to all of this so your help is appreciated. I can sync the music to the iphone just fine. I'm limiting to 2 gigs of songs. What I'd like to do is when I listen to a song or songs all day - then when I get home and sync again - I'd like to have it automatically remove the one's i've listened to and replace it with some new - all at random.. Is there a way to do something like this..?? I'm easily bored and listening to the same songs a couple of times in a week urgh...
    thank you,
    John

My 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen, shuffle and nano iPods all do this properly -- never had an issue with them (and still don't on the ones that I still have, the 1st gen shuffle, 3rd gen and the Nano). I don't have (and never will) a video iPod so I can't say anything about that.
As I said, I don't transfer music from my iPhone so I couldn't say for certain. However, I just tried it with one song -- transferred it to my (1 week old) 8gb iPhone and played it from there, redocked and synced it and sure enough, the play count was updated and the last played showed just now (I had never played the song before).
The usual caveats apply -- for last play and play count to work you need to play the entire song, and it must exit properly. Stopping the song at the end will not work (the count and last played get updated as it ends the song to play the next one).
My songs are all MP3s -- perhaps there is something with DRM that keeps them from working properly (I don't buy from iTunes and never will). MP3 files store the tags that update this stuff properly, and need to be written to in order for this to work.
I don't know why your iPhone doesn't work and I would assume your iPod should as well. There's nothing special about my iTunes setup (indeed, this is over three different iTunes, as I sync my iPods and iPhone on different computers) and I don't see any way you could prevent this from happening. But I'm no iTunes expert, so you might want to post your problems in that forum and see what they have to say.

  • How do I make the controls on JPanel instantiated from other class visible?

I am using Netbeans GUI editor to create a GUI. It's really terrific....but... I have aJFrame form containing a JPanel. I also have a "panel" class that extends JPanel. I would like to insantiate an object of teh "panel" class and use it as the JPanel in the JFrame. Sounds simple enough.

If you really want to learn Swing, I advise you to put the NetBeans away, and dive into the Sun Swing tutorials where you'll learn to code your Swing by hand. One of the main things that you'll learn -- and likely the thing that is tripping your current code up -- is how to use layout managers in a way that will allow you to flexibly place JPanels and other components where you want them, where they'll resize if need be, and where they'll be visible when you want them to be.
    Much luck.

  • Difficulty controlling X-axis time display in auto-scale mode

Auto-scale mode is great in that I can zoom and pan and all the axes are updated, but the display of time is not very controlable. I specifically want the start and end time to always be displayed on the far right and left, and I want a decent number of subdivisions to always be displayed. In auto-scale mode non of this appears to be controllable. What can I do short of taking over control of all aspects of the chart scaling and axes control to get auto-scale behavior that is more reasonable?
    Thank you,
    Martin

Hopefully a picture is worth a thousand words..
I think this has something to do with Mode = AutoScaleLoose or something along those lines.

  • Control File Auto Backup Alert Log

    Hello-
Is there a parameter in the 11g database that needs to be configured to write to the alert log when the controlfile is auto-backed up ?
I have this configured but there are no entries in the alert logs for 11g databases.
I do have them in my 10g alert logs.
    Thanks-

No there is no such parameter.
It seems that Oracle 11g does not write anything to alert log when control file is auto backed up but instead writes to a trace file in diagnostic_dest directory tree:

I am not quite sure if I understand what you are trying to do.
Sounds like you are trying to implement the zoom feature (increasing/decreasing the size of the picture inside a picture control, but not the size of the picture control itself). If this is what you are trying to do, then there is a property node in LabVIEW 7.0 that supports this feature (This property did not exist in LabVIEW 6.1). Please download the LabVIEW 7.0 evaluation version and run the attached VI.
Please let me know if this is not what you are trying to do.

  • Webpages enlarge when scrolling with mouse

Sometimes when I am scrolling up or down a page in Firefox, the page will stop scrolling and the page will instead start enlarging or shrinking, depending on whether I am scrolling up or down. I am not touching the keyboard when this happens and definitely did not hit the Control button first. It just randomly starts happening, usually when scrolling through a lengthy page, such as my Facebook newsfeed. This has been happening for several months. What can I do to stop it? It's really annoying!

Make sure that you do not press the Ctrl key.
You can set the <b>mousewheel.withcontrolkey.action</b> pref to 0 to perform a scroll.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

  • Random freeze, always when using 'save as' or 'open with' or 'attach'

For quite a while now I get random freezes (no specific event started this, and I cannot remember if it did it pre-10.6 it used to be very sporadic and gotten worse over time). I first thought it had to do with my temp control in my graphic card (RadeonX1900), since I had a lot of freezes when playing games. I controlled that by cleaning the dust and using smcFanControl, but I still have the random freezes. So I think this is something unrelated to temp control...
It happens randomly, sometimes once a week, sometimes 10 times a day, and it doesn't seem to relate to the amount of usage and what kind of usage on the mac.
But always these kind of events triggers it: 'save as' in any application. 'open with' in the finder. 'attach' in Mail. So whenever an application needs to show me what is on my computer (excuse my lack of technical terms). And it seems to happen more often when timemachine is backing up.
When it happens the only thing to do is to restart by holding the power button.
I run cocktail once a week, I have cleaned up using Clean My Mac. I have done a reinstall of snow leopard.
I would like to avoid doing an erase and install since I do not have the discs for a lot of software and the ones I do have, it would take forever to get everything installed and running again.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Danielle

I've used that version on Tiger quite well, but if you're worried, I can give you a direct download link to an older archived one, (batchmod_137.dmg).
But I think something stranger is going on now, I'd try this Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any UPS so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • 2011 MBP Randomly Slows To A Crawl, Forcing Reboot

I'm having issues with my 2011 MPB 8,1. My system seems to be randomly "freezing up" and slows down to a major crawl. The symptom can be described as like the system just slows down with commands taking 7-10 seconds to execute (Kind of diffult to describe sorry.). I'm forced to restart the system eventually (I've tried at one point closing as many running applications possible to see if maybe some sort of memory leak or high cpu was occuring, but everything in Activity Monitor was normal and that didn't solve the issue.)
Anyways i believe i've observed this happening during internet browsing, particually browsing flash sites (The issue has happened during usage of both Firefox as well as Google Chrome). This issue doesn't happen much (About 6 times total in 4 months time) however its happened tonight as well as a few days earlier so its beginning to occur more often. I have replaced the default RAM with two-4GB sticks maxing out the system at 8GB when i first bought my MBP back in March if that helps narrow things down. what I've done to try and solve the issue in the past is repairing disk/file permissions, verifying disk and ran both a standard and extended Apple Hardware Test, resetted the PRAM etc.
any help or insight into this issue is much appreciated.

    Hi Firefoxsilver9,
today my Macbook had the same issue and it has happened randomly while I was browsing Internet and playing music in iTunes.
The kernel messages are the same as yours.
While it's hardly responding to inputs I closed the lid, waited few seconds then reopened the lid and the issue had gone without rebooting.
My model is: MacBook Pro 2011 13" 2.3 GHz i5 with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
It looks like there is some sort of bug at the kernel level (maybe a bug on the graphic card driver?).
I hope that Apple investigate and give us a patch soon.

  • MSI X79A GD-45 - Random Locking / Rebooting Issues

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded my old P45 chipset Q6600 16GB Hyper-V home lab server, with a nice X79A GD-45 Board, with an i3820 & 64GB of Ram.
I've installed the system with Windows 2012, however I can't seem to get it stable.
I have a basic AMD 4550 graphics card in the server, and Dual Port HP360T nic, 2 x LSI Raid Controllers, I have tried removing all of this, but still get the same issues.
I have the latest BIOS updates from the MSI website.
I found that switching the ACPI power settings to C6 in the BIOS improved the stability but it hasn't resolved the problem completely.
I have my memory running @ 1333Mhz, as I've seen some people mention that trying to run 8x8GB @ 1600Mhz can cause problems, but that makes no difference.
I've tried running with 32GB of Ram rather than 64GB but same issues.
The strange thing is the PC doesn't blue screen, it sort of hangs, i.e. Windows 2012 goes un responsive, however I can still move the mouse cursor around, just nothing works, other times it just reboot's itself, and I get unexpected shutdown messages in the event logs.
Do I have a dogdy m/board, or is there some other secret to getting the X79 boards stable, my old Q6600 on intel P45 chipset was like a rock, longest uptime was over 250 days without a reboot..
    Thanks,
    Andy.

    Hi,
Just to let you all know that i think I had two issues in the end, the MSI commander software causing random reboots of Windows 2012, and also an old casecom 500w PSU that was causing the strange partial hangs.
Removing MSI commander software and setting FAN control directly in BIOS stopped the random reboots, however I was still getting problems with partial crashes for example Hyper-V VM's still running but windows desktop would go unresponsive etc.. and also issues with occasional HD corruption.
Since replacing the PSU the partial lockups / crashing have gone away, and I've had no more instances of corruption, server stable now for 80hrs+ without a reboot or weird partial hang :-)
In addition moving to a new 80+ platinum PSU has seen the power draw to run the system drop from 38-40% of the capacity of my UPS down to 17-18% so I've halved the amount of electricity that my server uses when on 24/7, from about 200-250w down to less than 100w, just the saving of approx 2.4Kwh a day (equates to about £0.30 a day) so across the year the PSU will have paid for itself !
