Conversion Spacing

When I convert from Word 2010 to PDF, I have noticed addtional spacing, or less spacing between some letters.  I the word "street", the letters are touching in the pdf.  I any word with a Y, the letters adjacent are spaced wider from the Y than other letters. I am using Adobe XI Pro.

Font embedding was checked, but creating the PDF in "Print" worked like a charm. Feeling sheepish that I didn't think of that first! :-) Thanks for the help.

    IN adobe or conversion to power point how do I delete or change spacing?

    I assume you mean saving a PDF to a PPT from Acrobat (Adobe is the company, not the product). What spacing are you talking about? You generally have two choices of the export process, to retain flow and to retain format -- though I have not looked at the PPT export recently. I am not sure what you are asking. If you could post a screen capture and explain, it would help.

  • Publisher/PDF Conversion - Word Spacing Issues

    I use publisher 2003, and am having never-before experienced problems when converting into a PDF (recently upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro). During the conversion, I notice strange gaps in the middle of words. I converted the publisher document using both full- and left-align text, and still experiencing the problem...below is an example. Check out the words: "weeds," "are," "cause," and "public." Any advice on how to stop this from happening??

  • Permanently save line spacing in a multi-line text field

    Me: Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro, Windows Vista
    (I think the people who will be using the form have Reader 7 on Windows)
    I work in a doctors' clinic, and we use phone message sheets to document conversations between the patients/us/nurses/doctors, and I scanned the form and made it into a fillable PDF for our secretaries to fill out more quickly. The "message" area has pre-printed lines on it, and the multi-line text field I placed there needs to match up to the lines. I used the Rich Text Formatting options to set it to "Exactly 24 Points," but I can't get it to KEEP the formatting permanently. The only way I could get it to save the formatting in that field was to put a space in it and then save it, and then give that to the 2 phone secretaries. It works perfectly the first time, but instead of just closing/re-opening the file to start a new message, one of the secretaries highlights everything in the "message" field and deletes it... which deletes the line spacing formatting. I've told her
    b numerous
    times to leave that starting space in the field, but she "forgets" so all of her messages look messed up. So is there a way to force that line spacing
    b PERMANENTLY
    ???? Here's a shrunken screenshot of the field -- I wish I could just erase the lines altogether so the spacing wouldn't matter, but the secretaries type/print the message out, then the nurses/docs write on the page with pen so the lines have to stay. http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=notepreviewph8.jpg
    Thanks!

    You can set the font size of the text. Then play with the underlines in the original document to match the needs of the font that is used. Print to a new PDF and then use replace pages to put the new page into the form without changing the form fields. I was able to do this with a word processing document by adding underlining in the document with 12 pt and setting the font to 12 pt in the text field. You can play with the font, the border of the field, and the underlining in the original document to get the desired result. Is this optimal, probably not. However it does the job.

  • Line spacing (leading) when converting web page to PDF with Acrobat Pro 8.1.2

    I recently upgraded from Acrobat Pro version 7.0.9 to version 8.1.2 (Windows XP Pro). In many cases, when I "Convert current web page to an Adobe PDF file" using the Adobe PDF toolbar in Internet Explorer, the spacing between lines is much larger with version 8 than it was with version 7. Has anyone else observed this? Is there any way to control leading?

  • Can I omit headers and footers in conversion?

    Hi everyone,
    I am having problems with footers and headers each time I convert from pdf to Word using Adobe ExportPDF. It is an excellent program, but I have a problem.
    I follow the instructions and the pdf converts to Word fine, but the converted text has a footer and header at each page break.
    I tried converting after making the pdf continuous, i.e. no page breaks, but the footer and header still turns up where a page would be!
    I have great difficulty dealing with the text in the footer and header and have to type in the last line on one page and the first line on the next page in order to complete the full text conversion. Can I not convert from pdf to Word without footers and headers?
    If I can't get rid of the footer and header, then how to I deal with the text in the footer and header without wasting time and effort typing it in or dragging it from the footer and then having to get rid of the empty footer (also, same with header, of course)?
    I thought I would just add this: When I create a Word document from scratch, the last line on the page and the first line on the next page are not in footers and headers. So why are they contained  in footers and headers after conversion using Adobe ExportPDF?
    Many thanks folks,
    Gareth

    Hi Test Sceen Name, I wasn't quite sure how to address you by name, but you will correct me if required, I'm sure.
    I can't help but notice that you have 4,392 posts to your credit, so you might say I am a little intimidated here, but I must say what I believe, though your answers will undoubtedly influence me, it's true.
    Now, what is happening to me is that "every" document the problem of which I complain occurs at "every" page break.
    If the software is "guessing" then it is guessing the same thing all the time. I am talking many hundreds of pages here and that is a lot of extra work for me to correct.
    As for assuming this is not happening to others because of lack of response, surely if others read about my problem and have the "same" experience as me you would think that one of them at least would say something.
    Am I the only one that this is happening to? If it is commonplace among members, then do they not have some kind of obligation to help a fellow member, if only to say, "Give it up, I have this too and there is no solution other than manual correction."? Would it not be somewhat perverse, to some degree anyway, for other members to experience the same problem as me and not pass on how they dealt with it?
    Anyway, in light of all other non developments, I must bow to your truly considerable experience and put it down to a flaw in the software that the software then tries to correct by guessing.
    I have been using MS Word since version 5.1a, a very long time ago. Content is not supposed to end up in footers or headers. Data, like date, page number and other repetitive text, yes, but content never. So it would seem that Adobe ExportPDF has a serious flaw, though in smaller documents it is one that can be surmounted reasonably. But for the long document, correcting it is a lot of work, too much work.
    Well, until Adobe addresses the problem and fixes it I shall have to carry on either eradicating the footers and headers and replace the missing content, the last line on the page and the first line on the next page, with text from the PDF and then adjusting the font, spacing etc, or, copy what is in the footer and header and paste it where it belongs then getting rid of the now empty footers and headers.
    Copying text from the PDF is less messyand quicker. So this I must do at every page break on every document that I submit to Adobe ExportPDF whether the document starts out with one long continuous page or not and even though resort to footers and headers has not been made. I shall hope that soon the software stops guessing.
    Many thanks indeed for your kind consideration of my problem. I respect your considerable experience with Adobe products and for now, anyway, I shall take your advice as the last word as no other responses seem to be forthcoming. No doubt, because they agree with you.
    I shall consider this string closed now from my point of view and have maked your response as helpful. I hope that is okay.
    Thank again and all the best,
    Gareth

  • Unique issue with PDF to WORD .doc conversion with Acrobat Pro - any ideas?

    I have been unable to solve the following issue when converting (save as...) PDF documents to Microsoft Word .doc using numerous methods. This could either be an issue that would be fixed in Acrobat Pro itself, or in MS Word - posting to the Adobe forums first.
    PREFACE: I am attempting to use the converted .doc file with translation applications/software. Google Translator Toolkit is what I use the most, but ALL other translators are having this very same issue with the .doc file. --The source PDFs are product information from drug manufacturers in various countries that I need to have translated to English. I do not have access to their source documents, as they do not provide their own source docs for obvious reasons.
    ALSO: I cannot use Google Translator toolkit to translate from PDFs directly - if you do that, it will attempt to translate a PDF and then export in an .html file, but it does not get the exact spacing of the sentences correctly, which leads to errors in translating - key things such as "can take with alcohol" and "do not take with alcohol". So that's out!
    I am not having any problems with the resultant .doc file in MS Word itself. It looks right, the spacing matches the original PDF source perfectly, prints correctly, etc... Reference here on a product info sheet from Austria in German:
    The problem: This is a screenshot from Google Translator Toolkit - the right side of the image - the spacing in the lettering from the .doc file I am uploading is not being read correctly, resulting in untranslated gibberish. (Note: this isn't a problem with the translation applications or software -- all are having this issue with .doc files converted from .pdf - this issue isn't present with any old .doc file that wasn't converted from a .pdf) -- It's definitely got something to do with some kind of embedded data in the .doc file that I cannot isolate!!)
    My settings in Adobe Pro (convert from PDF to .doc):
    Page layout: Flowing Text (this prevents the resultant .doc from having all of those text boxes, which also don't then work in translators)
    Include comments: True
    Include images: True
    Run OCR if needed: True
    Notes:
    -I have run OCR text recognition on the source PDF files in it's specific language.
    -I have edited the accessibilty of the PDF and have run the tag recognition and quick checks (to see if they solved the issue, which it did not - tagged or untagged, same problems!)
    -I have exported the .doc BACK to PDF using MS Word's function, which results in a great looking tagged PDF. THEN I re-saved this new PDF back as a .doc - same issue.
    -I have tried saving the PDF in all of the other formats that the translators accept. All have different issues. The only one that works consistently is saving to a .txt (plain)... The best is a .doc to .doc conversion, with all the original spacing. (I am not spending hours reformatting a .txt translation in word)...
    I can't seem to find where this spacing data is in the .doc file!!!! (Changing the fonts, sizes, margins -- doesnt fix this either). I have tried so many methods...
    Any thoughts on other things to try in Adobe Pro (or Word)?
    EDIT: Here's an additional tidbit of info that may be the key to this... There's some kind of coding that is in the .doc that Adobe Pro converted from the source PDF that doesnt display in Word, but that is being seen by the translation programs....... I have no idea what these are, but I want to remove them!

    I would suggest you look at the fonts that are being used. It may be a font issue that is not properly being read by the translation program.

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Dimitris,
        I know you originally posted this question on the general FrameMaker forum. I suggest below that you post a follow-up question there.
       The structure-based part of the issue is that neither a conversion table nor an EDD can change properties of an existing anchored frame. It seems that when you open your Word document in FrameMaker, the graphics come in positioned at the insertion point. That doesn't change when you apply the conversion table. Your EDD does specify object style FiguredCentered as the initial format for GRAPHIC elements. The keyword here is "initial". The EDD can indicate a style for new anchored frames that are created by inserting an element. It does not allow you to change existing anchored frames.
      So the real problem is how to make a global change to all existing anchored frames (either assigning an object style or changing the position to Below Current Line) so that you don't have to change them one at a time. I am not aware of a way to do so with existing FrameMaker commands. You could use a script or plug-in, or save the document as MIF and make a global change with a text editor in the MIF file. You might ask on the general FrameMaker forum if someone there knows an easier approach.

  • Adobe Reader 9 + AutoCAD 2010 student version: no 3-d pdf conversion?

    Hi,
    if I try to export my AutoCAD 2010 3-d image as a 3-d pdf to Adobe Reader 9, all that is done is badly spaced 2-d image on white document sheet. I've viewed other 3-d pdf images on the Adobe Reader 9 done on some other AutoCAD's, so I know that it can handle them. Is the problem the AutoCAD student version or am I using wrong method?
    I would be grateful of any advice...

    Hi,
    I tried to send you a screenshot of the error message of Adobe Acrobat
    Pro Extended after an attempt for conversion was made with conversion
    settings you sent earlier. Message bounced back every time, regardless
    whether the attached file was on *.jpg or packed as a zipped tar-ball.
    Is it possible to send the screenshot to some other e-mail address?

  • How can I correct spacing issues in PDFs created from Word 2010?

    I have already changed settings to Press Quality as well as embedded all fonts possible yet I am unable to fix this error.
    As an example of what occurs throughout the PDF after conversion please see the image on the left (Original DOCX) and the image on the right (Converted PDF).
    The spacing is not uniformly altered and in some cases the spacing is reduced, as in the word "efficiency" and in some cases spacing is increased, as in the space between "energy" and "efficiency".

    It looks as if Word (not Acrobat) is doing some advanced typographical adjustment. Certain fonts contain a specially designed ffi single character.

  • RH8 conversion (bullet images and numbered lists are different)

    Version 8.0.2.208
    Conversion of 1200 htm files.
    Has anyone experience bullet images in their custom styles changing from RH7 to RH8 and numbers in numbered lists resized?
    Bullets
    I noticed that all my bullet images have changed. They are OK in Design view, but change when the topics are previewed and generated.
    For example, if the style used a small square bullet image, it was changed to the bullet used at the beginning of this sentence.
    If I attempt to create a new bullet list in the existing topic using the Normal style (Arial 12)  and Formatting Toolbar (Bullets), the bullet and text are changed to (Arial 10) and the style name changes to (none) in Design view. Preview and generated is also Arial 10 for both.
    Numbered Lists
    Most of the existing converted topics used the Normal style and Formatting Toolbar (Numbers) for numbered lists. There is spacing between each numbered line. The numbers and text are in (Arial 12) in Design view, but the numbers are (Arial 10) when the topics are previewed and generated and the text remains (Arial 12).
    If I select the numbered list, click the numbered list icon to turn off numbering, and then click to turn on numbering, the numbers and text are (Arial 10) and the style is changed to (none). Output and preview are (Arial 10). The spacing between the numbered items is deleted.
    I have to then highlight that list and change the style back to Normal for (Arial 12) text.
    If I attempt to create a new numbered list in the existing topic using the Normal style (Arial 12)  and Formatting Toolbar (Bullets), the bullet and text are changed to (Arial 10) and the style name changes to (none) in Design view. Preview and generated is also Arial 10 for both.
    This has taken up a lot of my time. Any clues?

    I went to the link you provided.I am still confused as to the step by step procedure to fix my custom bullet style that is used throughout my project. Can you globally fix this issue? It would be too time consuming to figure out where in 1200 topics this style is used. I guess I don't understand list styles.
    Custom Style = BulletList
    My custom (BulletList) style -  Design mode:
    Preview mode (incorrect)
    Another topic using ths sam (BulletList) style - Preview mode (incorrect should be square bullets)
    I select Format > Styles in design mode. Right-click on BulletList, select Edit.
    If I ceate a bulleted list, the square bullet is selected.

  • How do I correct spacing errors that occured when converting a word file to pdf?

    I have a microsoft word file that when converted to pdf is changed. If I import it I loose the font style if I upload it I keep the fonts but the spacing on the document is all wrong. Any suggestions?

    Hello there,
    Thanks for posting; this is an error that we see from time to time, and typically has to do with the document's formatting. Sometimes a font used in the original document is not available on our conversion servers; while we do have a lot of fonts installed on those servers, we don't have every font in the world. A missing font will be substituted and those substitutions can lead to the results you observed. Additionally, image placement, line breaks, and page breaks sometimes change if you save to other formats. Although there's not a specific button to click to fix the problem, you may want to toy with any strange or special spacing that you've used in the document, or substitute a more standard font of your own choosing. Please let me know if you need more help or information!
    Best regards,
    Rebecca

  • Conversion of type h to type g not supported

    Hi Experts,
    I am getting the Conversion error when using the Adobe forms.
    Below is the code that I have used.
    CALL FUNCTION lv_fmname
          EXPORTING
            /1bcdwb/docparams  = ls_fp_doc
            pernr              = lv_pernr
            zcit                 = lt_citation
            zsignam         = lv_signam
            ename            = lv_ename
            zyears           = lv_years
            desig              = lv_desig
            zdate              = lv_date
          IMPORTING
            /1bcdwb/formoutput = ls_formout
          EXCEPTIONS
            usage_error        = 1
            system_error       = 2
            internal_error     = 3
            OTHERS             = 4.
    I am getting the error because of lt_citation. It is of type string_table.
    My requirement is displaying the paragraph with the formattings done (newline, spacing, etc).
    The paragarph is converted to guid and stored in a table. As of now, I am converting the GUID to tline format and then to string_table and passing that as input to the above function module. It gives the dump.
    If I convert it to string and pass to the FM, its working fine. But the formatting is missing. Please suggest.

  • RoboHelp 8.02.208 Conversion Problems

    We have a large body
    of  documentation in RH5 and we have successfully converted several projects in our initial test. So far there do not
    seem to be any issues with style. However, conversion of a RH7 project to
    RH8 has me completely baffled. I verified that the correct style sheet was select
    ed, but the interline spacing, alignment of bullets, and in some cases the conditional tags are a nightmare. Everything looks fine in the files until I go to generate the help file. The resulting file is not acceptable. I'm assuming part of this problem is due to the way RH8 handles multi-level lists. Why the conversion from RH5 has been less problematic has me scratching my head. So what do I need to do to get a large RH7 project properly converted?

    Each forum has a Sticky Topic, Before You Post. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/467760
    Please start each thread with the edition and version of RoboHelp that you are using. I am assuming you are using RH HTML.
    The code changed in RH7 and again in RH8 so I'm guessing the problem is related to the upgrade from 7 to 8, although that does really help us. It just maybe explains the difference.
    The problem with lists is that many people have set up paragraph styles as list instead of using the LI tag. There are many posts on the forums about this. Also you might like to look at Willam van Weelden's pages at http://www.wvanweelden.eu/robohelp/lists/lists.php
    Tags and spacing have not been an issue though. Try creating a new layout pointing to a new folder.
