Convert Encoding of system properties
Hello,
I wrote a little piece of code wich reads directory names and file names and write them to an DOM tree. If I use "ISO-8859-1" for the output format, it works fine, but when I switch to "UTF-8", the resulting xml-file contains illegal characters. I suppose, that File.getName() returns the file name in the current encoding of systems locale, and Node.appendChild does not any conversion between "ISO-8859-1" (perhaps the encoding of my Windows XP) and "UTF-8" (Java standard).
Somethere in my code is a line like this:
ElementFolderName.appendChild(RelatedDocument.createTextNode(file.getName()));For serializing I use org.apache.xml.serialize.XMLSerializer:
XMLSerializer serializer = new XMLSerializer();
OutputFormat of = new OutputFormat(d);
of.setEncoding("ISO-8859-1");
serializer.setOutputFormat(of);
serializer.setOutputCharStream(new java.io.FileWriter(OutputFile));
serializer.asDOMSerializer();
serializer.serialize(d);I have two questions:
1) Is there any function to get the encoding of system strings?
2) Is there any function to convert the encoding on the fly, like String getUTF-8(String s, String Encoding)?
Thanks,
Stefan
"Invalid characters" means that the encoding of the characters probably don't fit the utf-8 spec. The serialization is successful finished, and I check the resulting xml-files with OxygenXML, which reports an "UTF-8 - java.nio.charset.MalformedInputException". So I'm pretty sure the xml-files are incorrect (and it is not a problem of the text editor). The issue regards file-names containing some german characters like "öäü". I don't think that this is a problem of serialization, because I run document building and serialization in the easiest possible way.

RAM not showing up in system properties
I have 3GB installed on my OLD Windows XP
I have noticed lately that when I checked my System Properties it only says 2GB.
But HWINFO32 shows 3GB
I ran memtest86 to see if my ram was failing but it passed.
Any ideas on why it only shows 2GB.
I have an Nvidia 9800 1024MB graphics card if for some reason that is subtracting from my total.
Thanks: GLennI have saved the DXDIAG file and uploaded it.
Does anyone think I should replace the CMOS battery ?
I have not had any problems with my time not working or it turning off and no warnings ?
Also, I have ordered 4 new 1GB Ram sticks so they are all the same speed.
My 2 512's are the slowest and the new ones will be faster then the 2 1GB ones I have there now.
I will pick up a can of air and clean out the unit too since its been over a year since I dusted it off.
Thanks: GLenn
I will paste the info below too.

Properties with special characters are not transfered to system properties
A property which contains a special character like % or (o with 2 dots above) will not passed to system properties in java 1.5.0_16.
This was working with java 1.5.0_06.
Example
Jnlp:
<property name="test.fail" value="Mller"/>
<property name="test.works" value="Moller"/>java:
System.getProperty("test.fail") = null
System.getProperty("test.works") = "Moller"The Jnlp is correct encoded in UTF-8
Are there any ideas?
regards<property name="test.fail" value="M%ller"/>

Where do I read in the documentation the list of the system properties?
Yep. Sounds stupid. But it's true. I read in all these forums where and how to set the truststore and so on but it would be beautiful to understand it my own.
1. First I read setting the -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore in the VM arguments.
2. Then I find out the the -D is just for setting something like a static property.
3. Next I want to read about the system properties. Who, what and where the Java tries to get this system property. I do not find it.
What I find is great help in these forums and solving this kind of problems seems easy... I googled and the only place I found info about this is in a boulder.ibm.com site:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzaha/sysprop2.htm
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzaha/rzahajssesysprops.htm
I also found some info on a sun tutorial but not an official documentation. Do you know where to find it? It seems that my learning is always about finding the right place to find information and not guessing and trying.
Thanks!!Thanks for your soon reply. Yeah, I found that but I really was expecting a more serious documentation.
I have to admit that it is documented. Yes. But I didn't expect to find that in middle of a guide. But more in a reference or in a specification document. It's inside the "Customization" and in a table, yes... But it's a guide!!
I like Java but something to worry about is the "too many - too less" documentation. Documentation is not clear enough and all the hundreds of options you have can make the programming with Java no good. It would sound like a good thing have a lot of choices and hundreds of places to look info for but I am a bit disappointed with that. It's not clear enough to find the right info.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help!! I will have to live with that.

System Properties user.timzone different between dev. and prod. system
Hi all,
I am facing the following issue:
In our development system I get in http://<server:port>/sap/monitoring/SystemProperties -> dispatcher -> system properties a Europe/Berlin for user.timezone.
In our productive system I get in http://<server:port>/sap/monitoring/SystemProperties -> dispatcher -> system properties a GMT for user.timezone.
Can anybody explain which system property is requested by the J2EE-engine when calling this property?
I ask, because I wrote a small programm requesting the user.property via java (expecting j2ee-engine would do that too) an got back an empty string (on both systems).
So, how/where can I change the parameter, so that the development system uses GMT, too?
I already checked the spro settings in sap, they are identical. System -> status showes the same for both systems, too.
I hope for your help.
Thanks and regards
ChristianHello Chris,
I checked the system variables with TA SM51 ->goto -> server -> information -> environment.
There is nothing like the TZ variable on both systems (we use Linux).
Do you have an other idea?
How can I change the user.timezone shown in Java system properties?

I dont ask you to write the code.Need some help to start it .Actually i dont have knowledge that
whether xml file automatically read it or i have prase the system property manually. Now i got the way to

Is it possible to "convert" an encrypted system to LVM
From what I understand after reading this article in the wiki LVM is an underlying layer below the partitions that you usually work with. Basically a structure on the HDD on top of which you have your partitions and file systems.
Now, before asking my – hopefully not embarrassingly stupid – question, I should probably describe my situation:
I have two HDDs here, one of which is currently in use. Both are the same model and could be used interchangeable, they contain different data though.
· The first one, currently in use, contains /boot and three encrypted (via dm_crypt) partitions which each contain one file system (2* ext4, 1* reiserfs)
· The second one, currently lying around and only being mounted occasionally, contains one big ntfs partition encrypted with TrueCrypt
I have never worked with LVM but I would like to at least broaden my knowledge with experience so I can – when I set up my next system some time – make better informed decisions. Ideally I would "convert" my current system into something that's better to use and needs less different solutions patched together than it does now.
What I would like to have is a system with both hard drives (probably more added later) to be ready after boot with my current partitions (/boot, /, /var and /home) mounted while the second, currently only sporadically used HDD, is "integrated" in /home. And all of that (except /boot of course) should remain encrypted.
I know that I have to format the NTFS drive and as it should be part of /home – which currently is an encrypted (via dm_crypt) ext4 partition – it probably needs to be ext4. I expect it to be problematic to have a Logical Volume spread across one dm_crypt-encrypted drive and one TrueCrypted though I am not entirely clear on whether the encryption would be on top of the LVM volumes or vice versa. Anyway I assume I have to decrypt the TrueCrypt drive and encrypt it again with dm_crypt. Unless that would be dumb and you suggest something different?
The second drive (NTFS wrapped in TrueCrypt) can be completely wiped if necessary (most probably the easiest approach).
Apart from "Is that possible and/or a good idea or would you suggest not to switch to LVM and do something different (integrate the second drive in my dm_crypted system maybe?)?" my question is: "How would I tackle this problem; what would be the starting point and how could I make sure I don't accidentally erase all the data on /boot, /, /var and /home as I would like to keep my current system?"
I hope it's somehow understandable what I'm trying to do, if not please do ask.

Bet let's assume you're not crazy, and have backed up everything. The next step is to go to the LVM section of the wiki's LUKS page, and implement one of the solutions there. -
BI 7.0, BDLS is not converting all logical systems for datasources
Hello all,
We have refreshed an ECC system, and during the post steps in BI, we were running into issues.
We've ran BDLS to convert the logical system from ECCCLNTXXX to ECCCLNTYYY, but it's was not converting for several datasources.
One in particular was causing several problems, and terminating the conversion.
0FC_CI_01. It is still hanging on to the old logical system. BDLS terminates with the following information:
Short text:
Active version of emulated 3.x DataSource 0FC_CI_01 cannot...
Basically, the exact symptom of Note 936644.
Eventually, through a series of trials, we discovered we could assign non-active sourcesystem/logical system combinations to the objects. As a result, we deleted the source systems entirely, ran BDLS to the ECCCLNTYYY, then recreated the sources.
This finally worked. What I need now is a root cause. Why would BI refuse to change the logical system of an object to an active one, but have no problem with an inactive?Mike,
After running BDLS, you need to replicate the source system in BW, change the contents of the target host and fields for all R/3 and Data Mart(note 184754). Update the target BW system name in table T000 using SM30. Change logical system name in all BW tables using BDLS (note 325525)
Refer to the below doc for detail. Also refer to note 886102.

Below note talks about similar issue.

How are the java system properties loaded into the Oracle 8.1.7
I have listed the java system properties both standalone and in the Oracle database. The standard list of system properties is quite extensive and informative. But the list of system properties from the Oracle database is severely truncated.
I expect these properties are initialized on database startup.
If that is the case, I expect there to be a file and initialization parameters that define where the information is kept and there values.
Can anyone give me some guidance?System*.properties file should be located in the $ORACLE_HOME/javavm/jahome directory

BPM--cannot convert sender logical system to ALE
Hi
My Scenario is file-bpm-idoc.. Where i am getting an error saying "cannot convert sender logical system to ALE" for the BPM.
i tried entering the logical system for the BPM in adapter specific attributes but it says logical system is already being used by some other service..
So i tried header mapping in receiver agreement now the messages are failed at the intital stage before entering the BPM only only saying cannnot find recvr agreement..
My sender system BS_EXT_100
BPM IP_calldoc
Recvr system BS_EDCR/3_200
i did the header mapping for recvr agreement of BPM by selecting the sender service and entering "BS_EXT_100"
Where am i going wrong...solved it myself.. Thanks

Java system properties in the command line...
Is it possible to know (at run-time) which system properties have been specified in the command line (using the -Dprop=value argument)?
Actually I would like to avoid people running the JVM and using my program overwriting the user.name property.
Thanks
LionelWhy use JNI? That's a little overkill. Just use args[] in main.
public static void main( String args[] ) {
for( int i = 0; i < args.length; i++ ) {
if( args.startsWith("-Duser.name=") ) {
System.out.println( "Well " + args[i].substring("-Duser.name=".length) + " you're not who you say you are!" );
System.exit(-1); -
How to set JVM system properties in Oracle Portal ??
Hello Guys,
I want to set javax.net.ssl.trustStore="path to keystore" ,JVM system properties on oracle portal,
Like i want to configure my keystore with oracle portal so that my application can make a success full connection with back end using https.
i read the following note from one of the Oracle tech note,which says that
It is important that this system property is passed as a command line option to Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J). Setting the property in oc4j.properties will not help because the system property is read first before OC4J reads this file. Therefore, it is best to modify the <java-option> line in the OC4J_portal section of ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/opmn.xml.
So, i made the required changes to OC4J_portal section of opmn.xml file as below
added value is shown in bold
<data id="java-options" value="-server -Xrs -Djava.security.policy=C:\oracle\OraPortal\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\config\java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless=true -Xmx256m -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStrore=C:\keystore1 -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStrorePassword=password1"/>
Even after making these changes, my application not able to make connection using https.
Could u guys explain me, what things are going wrong or somethings else i need to do to make it work.
Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

if the above is an exact copy of the values you inserted then it looks like you have two typos in the command line parameters.
-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStrore -> trustStore

JMX question: how to retrieve system properties, DataSource attributes ?
Hi,
I need to retrieve some parameters from my JEE application (*.ear) my collegues will deploy soon on Netweaver 7.2
I found documentation about how to connect to the server with JMX, that works fine:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/64/617cfb94845d468b0498b4b2c53d74/content.htm
But how can I come to the system properties for example? Which ObjectName do I have to use and what methods should be called? Are there some more examples for common operations based on the default (monitoring) MBeans?
Thanx a lot,
Bobhttp://www.dagira.com/2007/08/22/dynamic-dates-part-i-yesterday-and-today/
That blog post includes functions to get "today" for:
DB2 current date
Oracle sysdate
Informix TODAY
MySQL CURDATE()
SQL Server getdate()
Sybase getdate()
Teradata DATE or CURRENT_DATE
It is also the first in a series of posts that show you how to create other creative time objects for use in your universe. Hope this helps. -
SCCM 2012 - Change Distribution Point's Site System Properties Site Code
Hello All,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. Here's what I have and here's what I'm trying to do.
SCCM 2012 R1
Each of our offices has a Windows 7 SP1 Ent PC that is a distribution point for that office's 10-20 machines. A number of these offices and their DPs were setup prior to me setting up a number of Secondary Site Servers. So right now, these DPs' site codes
are the primary site server's. I'd like to change these to one of the Secondary Site Servers.
When I go to the Site System properties of one of these Win7 distribution points, the Site Code is grayed out.
So, the question is, how can I change one of these DPs' site codes?
Thanks in advance to whomever helps!!
BillThat's a strange reason for using Secondary Sites. How many clients are you managing? Have you good WAN links?
