Convert java.sql.Date to java.util.Date

How do i convert a java.sql.Date to java.util.Date ?
SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat ("dd/MM/yy HH:mm");
Date received=myresultset.getDate(1);
String utildate = formatter.format(received);
<%=utildate%>
Result : doesn't keep the HH:mm format
14/03/04 00:00
Ideas ?

There is simple way to do this job...
java.util.Date utilDate = new java.util.Date();
java.sql.Data sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(utilDate.getTime())

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Size Data Unit (SDU) mismatch

    Hi Experts,

    Appreciate your insights regarding this. Thanks a lot!
    Mark

    I'm encountering this error in my SAP-JDBC (Oracle) interface. The error message doesn't say much but the query being sent from SAP is working when executed directly into the database. I'm using thin JDBC driver for this connection.
    Welcome to the forum!
    Please get into the habit of SHOWING us what you are doing instead of just telling us.
    So don't say 'the query being sent'; SHOW us the query being sent.
    And don't say 'thin JDBC driver'; SHOW us the actual name and version of the JDBC jar file you are using.
    For JDBC issues you should also provide the full 4 digit Oracle version (select * from V$VERSION) and the full Java version that you are using.
    When you can reproduce the problem by using a simple set of Java code it helps if you post the code so we can try to reproduce the problem.
    A search of the web shows that there have been reports that upgrading to ojdbc6.jar resolves the problem but for other uses it seemed to be a case of several threads using the same connection.

  • How to convert pl/sql code into java/j2ee

    Hi,
    We have a PL/SQL Oracle App server application that we will support if we can convert in j2ee/java. But when i did take a look at the code, these pl/sql contains all HTML and java code inside the stored procedures.
    And iam looking to explore some tools and mechanisms that can convert these pl/sql in a JAVA application so that i can deploy this new app into my BEA81 environment.
    Does any body has any idea:
    a) How to convert from pl/sql > java ?
    b) Any plugins or tools of BEA that can run these pl/sql (the way thay are currently...i.e w/o converting) in BEA 81 container ?
    thanks, sangita

    these pl/sql contains all HTML and java code insideJava or JavaScript. They are not the same. I wouldn't expect to see Java inside html, whereas JavaScript would be intermixed. On the other hand you might have a java stored proc (Oracle 9/10) which is generating HTML.
    >
    Does any body has any idea:Refactor.
    I doubt it just has html and JavaScript/Java. So what you have is a mess that mixes several things that should have been seperate in the first place.

    It will be great if you provide some more basic details like:
    What activity you was doing??
    How you are doing?
    Did you get this error earlier also??
    Where did you get this error?
    It looks like you are using some sort of cursor and not handling the exception properly.

  • Does java.sql.Driver meets java.util.Locale ?

    Hello,
    I get some trouble using different JDBC drivers on machines with different languages.
    I receive numbers from database with different decimal separator running driver on machines with different languages.
    Is it possible to set the language explicit?
    Thanks for any help!!

    Hello,
    I now checked the problem more detailed:
    I created a view in Database like this:
    create VIEW VALUE_VIEW
    as select LTRIM(TO_CHAR(KENNWERT_FLOAT.WERT, '999999999999999999999999999999990D999'), ' ') WERT from WERT_TABELLE;
    there is now a decimal separator from ORACLE in
    if I do "select WERT from VALUE_VIEW"
    I receive 100.345 if I use ORACLE JDBC driver
    I receive 100,345 if I use SEQUELINK JDBC driver
    The same behaviour is on insert or update statements.
    Here is the sample code which I used to verify this behaviour:
              if( oracle )
              driver = new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver();
              DriverManager.registerDriver(driver);
              con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@myHost:1521:idb", "myUser", "pwd");
              else
              driver = new intersolv.jdbc.sequelink.SequeLinkDriver();
              DriverManager.registerDriver(driver);
              con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:sequelink://myHost:4003/[Oracle]", "myUser", "pwd");
              Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
              ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("select WERT from VALUE_VIEW");
              rs.next();
              textArea1.append( "getString: " + rs.getString(1) + "\n" );
              textArea1.append( "getObject: " + rs.getObject(1) + "\n" );
    So I am not able to switch my JDBC driver to oracle if oracle needs '.' as decimal separator on insert and I have ',' in frontend as decimal separator
    Thanks for your help in advance

  • Convert java.util.Timestamp to a formatted java.util.date

    Hi,
    I am trying to convert a java.util.TimeStamp date from the DB to a formatted date object. So, how can I convert this TimeStamp into an hourly or daily format that will return me a java.util.Date object? I was trying to convert the TimeStamp using SimpleDateFormat and then parse out to a Date object, but this isn't working. This is what I need
    TimeStamp converted to an "Hourly" date object --> 12:00pm
    TimeStamp converted to a "Monthly" date object --> May

    Hi,
    I am trying to convert a java.util.TimeStamp date
    from the DB to a formatted date object. I don't know what a "formatted date object" is. Do you mean a String?
    So, how can
    I convert this TimeStamp into an hourly or daily
    format that will return me a java.util.Date object?I don't know what you mean when you say "...int an hourly or daily format that will return me a java.util.Date object". A format is a String, are you wanting to parse that into a java.util.Date object?
    I was trying to convert the TimeStamp using
    SimpleDateFormat and then parse out to a Date
    object, but this isn't working. This is what I
    need
    TimeStamp converted to an "Hourly" date object -->
    12:00pmThat's a String then?
    A java.sql.Timestamp extends java.util.Date. So if you've a Timestamp, then you can use it as you would a java.util.Date. If you want a String, then as you say use SimpleDateFormat with the appropriate format string.
    Good Luck

  • Conversions between java.util.Date, java.util.Timestamp and java.sql dates

    I am coding a hoilday booking system using JSP to interact with a SQL Server database. On my JSP form which retrieves the information I have a little javascript pop-up date selector which appears to be returning a Timestamp value although the string value is visable in the entry field. Can I pass this to a javabean as a Timestamp, so far I have only passed strings? Also I then have to enter it in the database and so will need to convert it to an sql date type but I dont know which one is best. Previous to using the Timestamp returning calendar I was just entering text and parsing it to a util.Date in the bean and then converting that to an sql.Date for entry in the database. That worked fine but I want to use the pop-up any ideas? Also my bean won't compile if I declare java.util.Timestamp t;(cannot resolve symbol Timestamp !) even though I have imported util.

    First of all, java.util.Timestamp does not exist. You probably need java.sql.Timestamp.
    java.sql.Date and java.sql.Timestamp inherit from java.util.Date. So converting from java.sql.Date or java.sql.Timestamp to java.util.Date is easy, you don't have to do anything.
    To convert a java.util.Date to a java.sql.Timestamp, do something like this:
    import java.sql.Timestamp;
    import java.util.Date;
    Date date = new Date();
    Timestamp ts = new Timestamp(date.getTime());Jesper

  • (Again) java.util.Date vs java.sql.Date

    Hi there,
    (Again) Im trying to understand the EXACT difference between
    java.util.Date vs java.sql.Date.
    Googling, I can see that this is a very "popular" subject, but I still
    cannot figure out it exactly.
    Many writers claim that java.sql.Date only stores the DATE part (yyyy-
    mm-dd) but not the TIME part (hh:MM:ss) of a Date/Time value, but that
    I can easily disprove:
                    java.util.Date ud = new java.util.Date();                 java.sql.Date sd = new java.sql.Date(ud.getTime());                 System.out.println(DateFormatUtils.                                 format(ud, "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.SSS"));                 System.out.println(DateFormatUtils.                                 format(sd, "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.SSS"));
    Output:
                    2009-09-18 15:17:36.635                 2009-09-18 15:17:36.635
    So, apparently, java.sql.Date and java.util.Date have THE SAME
    precision (at least down to the millisecs...).
    And the official API documentation, really looks more confusing than
    helpful to me::
    *"java.sql.Date:*
    *A thin wrapper around a millisecond value that allows JDBC to identify*
    *this as an SQL DATE value. A milliseconds value represents the*
    *number of milliseconds that have passed since January 1, 1970*
    *00:00:00.000 GMT.*
    *To conform with the definition of SQL DATE, the millisecond values*
    *wrapped by a java.sql.Date instance must be 'normalized' by setting*
    *the hours, minutes, seconds, and milliseconds to zero in the*
    *particular time zone with which the instance is associated. "*
    Exactly what means "an SQL DATE value" ? How EXACTLY does it differ
    from a java.util.Date value?
    Most importantly: WHY does JDBC need to distinguish between them?
    And, here again: *"a java.sql.Date instance must be 'normalized' by*
    *setting the hours, minutes, seconds, and milliseconds to zero in the*
    *particular time zone..."*
    What does that mean exactly? Apparently, the constructor doesnt
    enforce this restriction, per the example above. So what's the REAL
    point with this type, java.sql.Date?
    Very greatful, if you can help me clarify this, once and for all.
    TIA,

    And the official API documentation, really looks more confusing than helpful to me:The problem is that you need to understand SQL as well as Java for this to make sense. It's not the Java API's job to tell you how your SQL database works - there's a myriad of subtle differences even when the DB is compliant with the SQL spec.
    Most compliant databases support DATE, TIME, and TIMESTAMP values. DATE represents only a date. TIME represents only a time. TIMESTAMP represents both. There are further complicating factors, but that's roughly how it stands.
    In Java the normal type for representing time is (or was when the API was created) the java.util.Date but this is a close approximation only to the TIMESTAMP value. In order to bring the two together the java.sql.Date, java.sql.Time and java.sql.Timestamp classes were created. Making them derive from java.util.Date was probably not a good idea.
    java.util.Date suffers from a number of deficiencies. java.util.Calendar was supposed to address them but didn't really succeed. The JodaTime library is rather better, but it's all a lot more complicated than you might expect - partly because time management really is a much harder problem than it appears at first glance - there are timezones, leap years, leap seconds, the difference between astronomical and atomic time, and so on and so forth.

  • How do I return a java.sql.Timestamp data type in a Web service?

    I'm new to workshop and java. I'm creating a mini application to simulate a real work Web Service (development environment is on an intranet). I was able to completely simulate the Web Services minus all date values.
    I'm using a standard weblogic workshop database controls that are feeding the various WebServices and their methods (Web services was generated from DB control). I get a java type not support error when I attempt to return a java.sql.Timestamp. I temporarily got around the problem by omitting all dates from the sql.
    However, we are at the point where we need the complete record.
    My two questions
    1) What java data type do I convert the java.sql.Timestamp to
    2) Where and how do I do it in workshop.
    Thanks in advance
    Derrick
    Source view from workshop looks something like this.
    public interface MyData extends DatabaseControl, com.bea.control.ControlExtension
    static public class dbOverallRec
    public String key;
    public String field1;
    public int field2;
    public java.sql.Timestamp create_date
    public dbOverallRec () {};
    *@jc:sq; rowset-name="OverallRowSet" statement::
    *select key, field1, field2 ,create_date from overall where key={KEY}::
    dbOverallRec getOverallByKey(String Key);
    * I had to omit the create_date to get it to work

    You should try changing java.sql.Timestamp to java.util.Calendar.
    java.util.Calendar maps to the dateTime type in XML Schema, and TIMESTAMP as a JDBC type.

  • Sql time to util date

    hi mates
    can any one give me the java code to convert sql time to util date?
    thanks in advance
