Copy/Paste Develop Settings for multiple images

I'm trying to update some settings on multiple images. In Develop mode, I start by making the corrections to a single image, and then click the "Copy ..." button. I then select multiple images in the Filmstrip and click "Paste". This works just fine, but only on the 1st image/highlighted image, and not the whole selection. Am I doing something wrong here? Shouldn't I be able to update multiple images, at once, like a batch process?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Lee Jay
How do you know this is on purpose? It seems like a bug to me.
See this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2951457
If your reasoning was correct, how come the settings do paste to the entire target selection and not just the active image when the toggle in the lower right hand side of the screen is switched to Auto Sync?
Would love to hear more of your insight, because this is really confusing me.

  • Cannot paste develop settings to multiple images in Lightroom 3

    I have just started using Lightroom 3 and am only able to paste develop settings to one image.  If I select multiple images it will only paste the setting to the active image, not all selected images. I never had this issue with Lightroom 2.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Hi Dorin
    I think the complaint is still valid - there should be no reason that you should have to toggle to Auto Sync before being able to paste your develop settings to the entire target selection, not just the active image in the selection. It should work with that switch toggled to Sync mode as well -- there is obviously a bug here.
    I am having the identical problem as the original poster. I am using LR 3.3 on a Mac, OS 10.6.5, in other words I cannot get develop settings to copy to all my selected target images while I am in the Develop module, only the active image within the target images, without toggling the Sync button to Auto Sync.
    This even after the release notes for 3.3 say they have corrected for the problem "Paste Settings did not apply to all images in the Develop module Filmstrip" (see http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2010/12/lightroom-3-3-and-camera-raw-6-3-now-avail able.html)
    This is silly. How do we ask Adobe to correct this bug?
    Cheers

  • Paste Develop Settings into multiple images ?

    I develop a particular image that has similar light and exposure to many that follow, so I want to past those develop settings into the several images that follow. I highlight the several remaining images at the bottom shown thumbnails. I paste the develop setting. The setting seems to be applied to only the LAST image that I selected. Is this behaviour as expected?
    I've only been able to manually paste the development settings into each of the images, ONE AT A TIME, which is quite tedious, compared to being able to do it to a group of images at once.
    I would prefer to be able to paste the development setting to multiple images in one fell swoop.

    Or use Auto Sync mode in Develop. Select multiple images in filmstrip or in Library's grid, then in Develop Ctrl/Cmd (Win/Mac) click the Sync button and it'll change to Auto Sync. Once it's on, it stays on. I almost always work this way - YMMV.
    The modal thing is no big deal, just smoke thrown up by Aperture fans who're smart enough to spot differences and creative enough to twist them into a way of justifying their fanboyism. Library works on cached data, Develop accesses the original data. Once you get into Auto Sync, and learn your keyboard shortcuts, modal is nearly irrelevant.

  • I have a dual monitor setup.  When I paste develop settings from one image to another, Lightroom switches the active window.

    Strange problem.  Lightroom 5.5.  Windows 8.1. Dual monitor setup.
    I'm processing a large batch of photos.  I have Monitor #1 set as my main develop window, with Monitor #2 set only to display a larger version of the image I'm working with. If I copy the develop settings off of one image and try to paste them onto another image, Lightroom will switch from Monitor #1 to Monitor #2 as the main develop window, and will not display anything on Monitor #1.
    If I then try to paste develop settings onto another image on Monitor #2, LR will then display a larger version of the image I'm working with on Monitor #1.
    To work the way I want to, I have to continually drag my develop window back to Monitor #1 every time I try to paste develop settings onto a new image. How can I make this stop?

    I just tried what I think you’re saying you’re doing and I don’t have the problem with LR 5.5 on Windows 7 SP 2.
    Does the same thing happen whether you use the key shortcuts vs the Settings / Copy/Paste options on the menu?
    I ask this because if you’re using the keyboard shortcuts, maybe you have some display-manager program that has bound itself to the Ctrl-Shift-V (paste settings) to the function of move-to-other-monitor which would do at least part of what you describe.
    You can also test this theory by doing a Ctrl-Shift-V with an application other than LR as the active window and see if it moves.  I suppose Ctrl-Shift-C might also play into it so try both of these hot-key combinations with a program that isn’t LR.
    If none of this sheds any light on the situation, then give a more detailed description of the low-level functions you’re doing to accomplish the copy-paste of settings, so someone else could replicate the steps exactly.
    Specific detailed steps, like:
    left-click on source photo’s thumbnail in the filmstrip
    press Ctrl-Shift-C to copy the settings
    click Check-None
    enable the white-balance and calibration checkboxes
    click Ok
    left-click on destination photo's thumbnail in the filmstrip
    click on Settings / Paste Settings in LR’s menus to paste the settings to the selected photo

  • How can I copy develop settings on multiple images from one folder to another?

    I have a bunch of Fuji X-T1 raw images that I have converted to DNG form. Once Lightroom supports X-T1 raw images directly, I would like to replace the DNG files by the corresponding raw files (which I have saved) without having to redo all of my edits.
    I've tried an experiment with a NEF file, which Lightroom supports: If I convert it to a DNG file, import the DNG file, then replace the DNG file with the corresponding NEF file, Lightroom still thinks the file is named DNG. This behavior makes me nervous.
    So what I would like to do is to import all of the Fuji raw files, then transfer the develop settings from each DNG file to the corresponding raw file, then finally archive and delete the DNG files.
    Is there any way to do this other than by hand? That is, if I have a folder with a few hundred DNG files, is there any way to tell Lightroom to take the develop settings of every file in the folder and transfer them to the correspondingly named file in the folder of raw files?
    If not, can someone suggest to me a way of accomplishing this that does not involve copying and pasting the data for every image by hand?

    The Syncomatic plugin is designed for thus type of task to - see http://photographers-toolbox.com/products/jbeardsworth/syncomatic/

  • Can't Paste Develop Settings to Multiple Photos

    I'm running Lightroom V3.2, and I have about 100 pictures I took at a concert.  I tweaked the exposure, brightness, etc, and the noise reduction, and copied the develop settings.  If I paste the settings onto any one photo, the paste works great.  However, I want to paste these settings to all 100 photos at once.  In the filmstrip, I select multiple photos, and no matter how I paste it (typically with the big paste button on the lower left of the develop screen) the settings are applied to only the right-most selected photo in the filmstrip.  I've tried everything I can think of but I can't get the settings to apply to multiple photos at once.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    That did it, thanks for the speedy reply!!!
    Wow, is that functionality confusing though...

  • Set image colour settings for multiple images

    In my workflow I place (Adobe)RGB images into InDesign. PDF export takes care of the RGB to CMYK conversion (convert to destination with preserve numbers).
    However this uses the default rendering intent for every conversion: relative colorimetric.
    For images, i want to use perceptual.
    Is there a way to quickly select all images and change the rendering intent?
    All the images have the same ojbect style. Unfortunately i could not find a way to couple the rendering intent to the object style.

    You can do it it via Assign Profiles...
    It can also be scripted, something like this AppleScript:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS6"
        tell active document
            set imgs to all graphics
            repeat with x from 1 to count imgs
                if class of item x of imgs is image then
                    try
                        set image rendering intent of item x of imgs to perceptual
                    end try
                end if
            end repeat
        end tell
    end tell

  • Merge develop settings for a set of images in a back up file

    Hi
    The situation I have is a folder with 2,000 images in it - I started developing from image 1 and moved forward through them developing as I went.
    Lightroom crashed and so I restored from a back up, but still I lost about 4 hours work.  I couldn't face redeveloping the exact same images I had just done again, so I went to image 2,000 and started working back through the folder, figuring that I would have renewed enthusiasm for the images I'd done but lost the develop settings on by the time I'd gone through the new ones.  I backed up as I went, scared that I would lose a lot of work again.  So, in short, I have a folder with half the images developed and a chunk in the middle, still to be developed.
    I have just opened the catalogue to sit down and develop the remaining images and I note that the images from say 1,300 - 2,000, which I had previously developed have lost their settings again.  I went back through my back ups and I have a back up file with them done, but it is from over a week ago.
    My question is - can I selectively copy the develop settings for images 1,300 - 2,000 on that specific folder from an old back to the current files without having to overwrite everything from that old back up, which would in turn overwrite work I have done since on other folders?
    Would really appreciate help on this one.
    RAWs were converted to DNGs at import.
    Thanks

    Hi Geoff
    Thanks so much for this - it did the trick!  Hours saved!
    For others who may read this item, it doesn't restore the individual steps you took during developing, it works in much the same way as the 'copy/paste previous settings' option in  that you get one line saying that settings were pasted....but that was good enough for me!

  • How do use the same crop for multiple images.

    I have a number of images that I want to use the same crop on. Instead of go through the whole slow process for each image is there a way to use the same crop for all of the images?
    And in iPhoto there was a way to copy the adjustment settings to multiple images, I can't see how to do that in aperture.

    Use the "Lift&Stamp" tool:
    Crop one image.
    Lift the crop using the "Lift" tool.
    Select the other images.
    Stamp the crop adjustment to all of them.
    But caution: By default "Lift" will copy all Metadata tags and all adjustments, but the gps data. If you only want to transfer the cropping rectangle, deselect all lifted items but the crop adjustment before stamping.

  • Show inside dynamic text the title for multiple images on mouseover

    I have 25 animated movieclips dragged on the stage and they have similar instance names for easier manipulation purposes inside programming using loops. The instance names look like this: image0, image1, image2 and so on.
    Each time I go mouseover on one of these unique images I want to show the unique title of that image using for all titles just one dynamic text container named imageTitle.
    I have succeeded to make this work image by image but this would require me to copy paste and modify for each image the following code.
    image0.onRollOver = function() {
        imageTitle.text = "First image title";
        imageTitle.textColor = 0x000000; // setting the text color here
    image0.onRollOut = function() {
        imageTitle.text = "Choose an image";
        imageTitle.textColor = 0x000000;
    Question: The above code would work but seems redundant to me. Since I have similar instance names (image0, image1, ....,image24), how can I put this code inside a loop or something in order to work for all images without repeating this code 25 times.
    Update: I have added an array to the project that contains all the titles:
    var imagesTitles = new Array("First image title", "Second image title", .... );

    imageTitle.textColor=0x000000;
    for(var i:Number=0;i<imagesTitles.length;i++){
    this["image"+i].ivar = i;  // key step
    this["image"+i].onRollOver=function(){
    imageTitle.text = imagesTitles[this.ivar];  // key step used here
    this["image"+i].onRollOut=function(){
    imageTitle.text="Choose an image";

  • Copy Settings to multiple images - STILL A NOT WORKING AFTER MANY VERSIONS!

    I have reported the problem of pasting settings to multiple images for many versions and this simple bug is STILL present in LR4!
    In develop module, make changes to an image, click Copy button, select settings to copy.
    Now, select a range or a number of images to which you want to paste the settings, click Paste button.  Guess what?  Only the first image gets the settings!
    This functionality should work and is even documented in the manual.  There are other ways of copying settings but I can never remember how to do this.
    Am I doing something wrong or is this a genuine bug that only seems to affect a few people (I did a web search for V3), or do people just not use this function?
    Please developers, fix this bug if it really is a bug!

    Thanks Dorin for the information.
    I guess I am just frustrated that the program does not work the way it is documented.  There are two very prominent buttons, Copy & Paste and they don't work as documented or as you would expect them to.
    With sync you have to navigate menus to do what one click of the mouse should accomplish.  All I want is some acknowledgement from Adobe that this is a bug and for it to be adressed.  As a long-time IT person I know this would be VERY easy to fix.  If it cannot be fixed then update the documentation.
    Oh well, enough said.  I still love LR!!!

  • Develop: copy after to before for multiple photos?

    Is there a way to copy after settings to the before settings (that of each photo) for multiple photos?
    I find that I forget to do that after editing a photo. Then saving edits back to the file (cmd-S) flushes the before settings. I've been visiting every single photo to copy the 'after' settings to the 'before' settings.
    Thanks.

    Hi All -- I'm going to ask this question again as the issue continues to vex me.
    I'm now using LR 2.2. The changes flushed to a image file (I use DNG) reflect the current 'before settings' in the develop module. In order to get recent develop module changes into the image file, one has to first execute "Copy After's Settings to Before", then save the image settings (cmd-S). That seems totally reasonable.
    Here's my problem. I visit lots of images making edits. I don't always remember to "Copy After's Settings to Before" after making edits. In order to determine which image's I've made changes to I step through all my images in the develop module using the before/after view, executing "Copy After's Settings to Before". This is a big hassle. I need a better approach. First I don't always know which images I've edited and I usually don't care anyway. What I want is a macro that will perform "Copy After's Settings to Before" for multiple images. Is there such a feature or is this missing from LR?

  • Copy-Pasting crop settings also affects other Develop settings?

    I noticed the following behavior in my Lightroom 4.3. Let's say I have two almost identical pictures. Both have their Develop settings reset, no keywords and store some GPS info (so in the flimstrip both pictures have a "geotag" icon overlaid on them and no other icons).
    Now, I go to Develop screen and crop the first picture. I leave other Develop settings untouched. This makes a "crop" icon to appear on the first picture in the filmstrip. All works as it should.
    After that I ask Lightroom to copy the Develop settings from the first picture. In the selection dialog I leave everything unchecked besides the crop settings. I.e. I want to copy crop settings only, nothing else. Then I immediately paste these settings over the second picture. Expectedly, the second picture gets cropped in exactly the same way as the first one. It also acquires a "crop" icon in the filmstrip. However, in addition to the crop icon it also gets a "+/-" icon, as if some other Develop settings got changed by the paste as well. A quick inspection shows that all Develop settings (besides crop, of course) remain at their default values.
    I wonder why the second picture acquires that "+/-" icon. Is there some hidden Develop setting that gets affected by my paste, even though I explicitly asked Lightroom to copy crop settings only? Or is it just a user-interface-level bug?

    I reported this strange behaviour a year ago already for LR 3.4: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_3_4_1_wrong_activation_of_ badge_has_delevop_adjustments. LR 4.3 seems to have the same bug (at least I think it is a bug).
    As far as I know, no "real" development settings are affected by this bug, however an internal flag for "has development settings" seems to be set when the "+/-"-badge appears. This means that such images are found by smart collections with "has adjustments = true". So it is not just an user-interface-level bug.

  • Copy after to before for multiple photos?

    Frequently I forget to update the 'after' adjustments to the 'before' adjustments for photos I visit. Is there a way to perform 'copy after settings to before settings' for selected photos. It would save me having to manually visit each one by one. My intent is then to save the settings back to the file (for all the selected photos).
    Thanks.

  • Adjust white balance for multiple images at once?

    Is this possible to adjust the white balance for multiple images at the same time?
    Or adjust the exposure for that matter?

    Of course, this is similar to the question you asked in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3964192#3964192
    except use White Balance instead of Exposure. For others who might be wondering the same thing:
    1) Set the White Balance for one image.
    2) Select all of the images you want to copy the White Balance to.
    3) Type "O" to initiate the Lift & Stamp HUD
    4) Click on the image with the White Balance you want to copy with the with the L&S up arrow.
    5) In the L&S HUD uncheck all the checkboxes except Adjustments.
    6) Click on the disclosure triangle to the left of Adjustments. If there are other adjustment settings besides White Balance listed, select them and delete them with the delete key.
    7) Once all you have is Adjustments White Balance in the L&S HUD, then click the "Stamp Selected Images" button in the L&S HUD.
