Crashes, Beach Balls, Green Video

Sorry for the excessive use of the word beach ball
I've been working on a project for a few weeks now. The problem started off when i tried to import a 1 minute clip, and Final Cut sayed it was 4 hours long, and only showed one frame of the footage, if i tried to delete it, it would beach ball, and crash, so I deleted the footage from my HDD. Now when i tried to add some footage to my timeline, the footage is mostly a green screen with some actual footage in between. Viewing the footage by themselves also appear green, and extremely choppy (in the area right next to the event library). If i render the video they are still green. I cant play the footage with the render bar over them or it beachballs. Work has come to a crawl with beach balls. I opened up iMovie and imported the footage to find it working flawlessly. So i guess there is a problem when i import the footage?
Maybe there is a way to open my project in i'movie, and add the footage there, then bring it back to Final cut
My footage is 720p 30fps. The footage im having problems are 14000kbs 720p 720p

Now i am no longer able to edit in Final Cut X, the beachball literally wont let me do anything, it goes away, but if i click anything it re-appears. Final cut is using 60 threads, .6% cpu, and 390mb of ram. I think the render bar on my video is decreasing, but not 100% sure of that over the last few hours

  • Premiere Pro CC (2014 version) crashes (beach ball) when trying open certain large Projects

    Hi,
I'm currently editing for a TV channel using the latest version of Premiere Pro CC and certain projects (it seems to be with ones with a lot of footage) crash when I open it. Basically, it doesn't even load all the footage up, one that crashed just now said it had around 140 files left to load, but the beach ball arrives and I sat there waiting for half an hour and nothing happen, apart from the beach ball spinning.
Now, we're on an high spec iMac 3.5Ghz i, 32GB ram, 512gb Flash Storage, 4GB Geforce Graphics card, so I don't think the issue can be the mac, unless the macs faulty, but seems to work fine, when I create new projects etc.
Also, their workflow uses USB 3.0 drives, could this be the bottle-neck making them crash? That being said I've edited lots off my USB 3.0 drive at home and my desktop is a lot weaker then this iMac.
Any ideas what the issue may be?
    Thank you,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Please mention the exact version of Premiere Pro. Assuming you are using 2014 version, please try some steps mentioned below.
    1. Clean the media cache files by navigating to /Users/User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common
    2. Check the version of the drivers of your NVidia card. So, go to Apple Menu>System Preferences and check if you have a CUDA Preference pane if it is not there then go to the below link and update the Card to latest drivers.
CUDA Drivers for MAC Archive | NVIDIA
    3. Also, please mention if you have any third party plugins used in the project. If yes, then try to update those Plugins or copy and paste those plugins to some other location and Trash them from MediaCore of Premiere Pro. The location of third party plugins is mentioned below.
Startup Drive or MAC HD /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0
    Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Vinay

  • Import for about 10-15 min okay then import picture freezes beach ball

I was importing my latest video from the camera Sony DCR-TRV8 (standard def mini DV camcorder) and it would import properly for variable amount of minutes, sometimes 10, sometimes 15 sometimes 2 or anything in between, before the picture freezes on the iMovie 08 import window and iMovie has basically crashed (beach ball, no interaction and no recovery). The camcorder is continuing to run playing its video and sound successfully on its little display, however none of it gets recorded after iMovie freezes.
I eventually have to kill iMovie and restart it (makes me feel like I'm on pre XP Windows again). I'm working on a Mac Pro (2.5GB RAM and plenty of room on the HD).
Has anyone else run into this? And know how to get around it?
Now this didn't happen on the previous 3 tapes (done in previous months), where it ran the length of the tape without attention from me and imported everything onto the system's hard drive and iMovie 08's library. I thought it might be that the system was going to sleep or something, but I made sure I was fidgeting with the window (moving it) occasionally this time and it did it anyways.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Scott

Found [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6387869] ("iMovie freezes") that suggested one of the iMovie updates (likely 7.1.1) is the source of these import freezes. People have trashed their iMovie app and prefs, then did a re-install from the DVD and that fixed it for them. One guys claims he also updated to 7.1 and is still OK.
I downgraded to 7.0 and am currently importing a tape and it's gotten further than it has in the past. I'll let you know after I import a few whether it fixed it permanently for me.

  • Flashing screen & beach ball Aperture crash

I have had a weird crash several times in the last few months using Aperture 3. It involves the screen flickering and the beach ball appearing and my entire system becoming unresponsive, however I can still move the mouse. The only way out of this is a hard reboot.
Here's a video to show you what it looks like: http://yfrog.com/ndimg0693z
While there have been a few other reports of flickering screens or beachballs on this forum, I haven't seen one that looks like this with both happening at once while the system becomes unresponsive except for mouse movement.
Does anybody have any idea what this could be? Could it be a faulty graphics card?
I looked into my Kernel log and found this series of lines repeating in an infinite loop during the crash (I confirmed it was the time of the video) and repeating infinitely until I rebooted.

    Any ideas?

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I haven't found any solution yet but hopefully I will eventually figure it out. The kernel log I posted is going to help sort this out...
I wonder if it is a hardware or software issue. The issue might be related to my MacBook's Nvidia card. I am reading up on NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception errors right now.
To access the log, go to console.app (in the ~/Applications/Utilities folder) and on the left hand sidebar under "/private/var/log" there are several kernel logs. The error for me is in kernel.log.0.bz2 but for you it might be in a different log. I think the various log files are different archives of logs that the system saves. Look for the one with the time and date of yoru crash.
What sort of system are you using?

  • Safari 5.1.7 Beach Balls when displaying HTML5 video

    Hello all,
I'm coming to you guys with an extremely annoying bug in Safari 5.1.7 (it's been fixed in 6.0, but Apple won't update Snow Leopard machines to the new version).
I have an HTML5 video at http://safaba.clients.numonium.com that is supposed to play above the homepage slideshow when you click the play button in the first slide (the slideshow fades out, video player fades in).
This aforementioned works properly in the following browsers:
    Firefox (current version - 16.0.1)
    Chrome (current version - 22.0.1229.94)
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 9
Microsoft Internet Exploer 8 (uses SWF fall-back, but properly transitions to the video and plays the SWF)
    Safari (current version - 6.0)
    Safari for iOS, iPhone
Safari for iOS, iPad (you have to hit the "play" button twice to get it to play... another issue)
You can use the following credentials to access this site:
    http://safaba.clients.numonium.com
    User: apple
    Pass: FQscoPxhx!
Safari 5.1.7, however, completely goes unresponsive under some circumstances, inconsistently:
When you click the "play" button on the first slide to launch the video player
If the above works, the video might play for two seconds then go unresponsive
If the above works, the video might play until you seek
If the above works, the video might play until you send a scroll event
The browser sometimes (albeit rarely) plays the video flawlessly, but only once completely loaded. If the video does, in fact, play properly, clearing the cache would revive the aforementioned issues. Therefore, I think this bug has to do in how Safari loads the video upon page load.
I've done just about everything I can think of (if I go to the video directly - http://safaba.clients.numonium.com/images/videos/homepage-slideshow/homepage-sli deshow.mp4), the video will play after a few seconds of loading.
So I would greatfully appreciate any and all help anyone can offer - thanks!

I should also mention that when Safari beach-balls, I don't see CPU, bandwidth, or Disk I/O spike (in fact, they're all close to 0), and only about 50% of the computer's RAM is used.
    Thanks again!

Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple?  I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!

Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

  • Beach Ball When Viewing Video

Running 5.0.2, I have this scenario constantly since upgrading to Safari 5+ :
    1. Safari has been running for several hours and I have 2-3 gigs free RAM according to Memory Stick.
    2. I go to apple.com/trailers to view movie trailers
    3. I choose a movie and click on the smallest size trailer available.
    4. I get a spinning beach ball for 30-60 seconds before the trailer plays.
    5. After the trailer, I can empty Safari's cache and clear the history, then quit and restart Safari.
    6. Go back to apple.com/trailers, pick a movie, a size trailer to view, and it begins to play almost instantly.
    7. This also occurs with video on other sites.
I have followed numerous suggestions from this forum on various Safari 5 issues (upgrade Flash, remove 3rd party plugins, repair permissions, etc.) all to no avail.
Does anyone know why I have to empty the cache in order to have videos/trailers load and play promptly?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    WK

Klaus - a follow up on the Safari video beach ball problem:
I implemented your suggestions about 24 hours ago. Just now, after a day of normal/heavy Safari use, I went back to apple.com/trailers and tried to view three new trailers. Same problem as before:
•First trailer: beach ball for 2+ minutes (not exaggerating) before trailer played. (Even then it was jerky.)
•Second trailer: beach ball for about 1 minute before trailer played.
•Third trailer: beach ball for about <10 seconds before trailer played.
Hey -- at least the wait times are getting shorter the more I try to watch!
So apparently the fixes to the QuickTime settings weren't a fix.
I then emptied the Safari cache (Safari menu) and went back to Trailer #1 (above). It began playing after about a 5 second wait (as did #s 2 and 3). So somehow emptying the Safari cache before playing trailers helps a lot.
If anyone has further thoughts on this mystery, I'm all ears. Thanks for your efforts thus far.
    WK

  • Endless spinning beach ball / system crash report

I am now getting the endless spinning beach ball for about 5 minutes every time I go from one application to another. It's often if I've been in Word or Photoshop, & I go back to Firefox to look at emails; it spins & spins before I can do anything. I also had some sort of a crash yesterday while I was out of the room, so I wasn't doing anything. I came back to find the attached long crash report; it means nothing to me. Is there anyone out there who can interpret this? I had to save it in several screenshots as it was very long (& this isn't even all of it). Thanks.

Banks everywhere seem to try to encourage customers to install it, but in my experience (3 bank accounts) they don't insist.
Unfortunately, as I said earlier, it just doesn't seem to work well for many users of OS X (there are numerous threads on here about it). A couple of years ago I installed it when my bank started pushing it but immediately started having kernel panics. Removing it fixed things immediately.
Occasionally someone from Trusteer has appeared on here offering to help, but generally soon disappear when they start getting flack .

  • Mail crashes with beach ball on composing email

Seem to be able to recreate this twice in 30 mins...
was an existing users email that had been previously drafted with content ( no attachemnts) in the message body.
Had to force quit mail and then restarted computer.
the previous email draft was then reopened and the beach ball appared immediately, all of this is ultimately ineracting with an IMAP server.
was able to copy the text from the message body and quit mail then ended up using a webmail application..
Mail is sending and receiving no problems.
I would like to look into some logs to get some clues on this one but not sure where to look ? As although I describe it as a crash I don't believe the system agrees - I can't see any thing under:
    ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.log

I think I've diagnosed the problem. It was (I think) being caused by GrowlMail - a plugin installed by Growl. It seems to have started happening after the most recent Quicktime update, so that points to a possible incompatibility there....

  • Video performe horribley both with QT and youtube, beach ball ****.

I have no idea why but since the last update all my QT movies play back about only 4 secs of video, then i hear sound but the picture gets stuck, then on YouTube i get nothing but the beach-ball, i have to force quit firefox etc etc
    Anyone else experiencing this?
I have over 120GB free on my drive, a external 750GB media drive for iPhoto docs and a 320GB Sata to USB 2.5" drive, all worked perfect until the last update.

    i have some problems too.
Expecially for some youtube videos or someother flash/director streaming files.
Actually Director/Shockware plugin works horrible on new Mac intel models.
I try to install also version 10 of this plug in (it's a beta) but nothing new.
For some videos it's possible to watch them but it's not possible to forward the timeline or put it in full screen mode. this occurs very rarely on YouTube but very often on other streaming video sites.
The only remedy if you need to watch them is restarting Safari or Firefox under Rosetta, doing so flash/director plugins are loaded in PPC instead of Intel.
It's not funny but it works.
    only a note:
as i remember , CNN uses Windows Media Video codecs in their streams so it's better you install
WindowsMedia component (it's free) from Microsoft Mac site (www.mactopia.com or microsoft.com/mac)

  • Address Book Spinning Beach Ball of Death Crashes -- Lost Address Book Data

Over the past three weeks Address Book has suffered spinning beach ball crashes three times. Each time resulting in total loss of the data in the address book.
I can understand that from time to time an application might crash, but there is NO excuse for the crash to result in the TOTAL loss of data associated with the application.
And having to revert to manually stored backup archives is NOT acceptable.
Is there a way to restore the Address Book database to what it was IMMEDIATElY before the crash?
I notice that there are unix executable files with data in them in the address book subfolder in the address book folder in the Applications Support Folder.
Can they be used to restore the database?
If so, what is the method and why is it not more clearly documented?
    If not, why not?
Why isn't one able to set the application to automatically make backups every so many minutes?
What are the primary factors that cause Address Book to Crash?
Is there a file size limit to Address Book?
Is there a need for a minimum amount of RAM?
Why hasn't the dev team fixed these bugs?

This same thing happened to me. Did you ever figure out what to do?

  • Really long spinning beach balls when trying a video chat

I just migrated from an older Mac to a brand new Mac Pro 2.66. I plugged in my iSight and tried to do a video conference, only to get a spinning beach ball for >1 minute before the video chat commenced.
Later I tried to access my own camera (by clicking on the camera button at the top of my buddy list) and likewise, >1 minute of spinning beach ball, THEN it worked OK.
Going to the Preferences > Video tab, likewise, spinning beach ball.
Any ideas on how to diagnose and fix this?
Already repaired permissions, and tried unplugging/replugging the iSight.

    Hi David,
In iChat > Preferences > Video section you should have a drop down to Pick the camera (either Internal or External).
    Have you done this ?
By default iChat will use the Firewire one as first choice (to the extent of changing mid chat if connected.

  • Spinning beach ball of death, crashes?

Hi - I'm having problems with my couple-years-old MacBookAir lately. Specifically long periods where it freezes, the beach ball spins, and even a few crashes. It's not application-specific; it happens in Firefox, Mail, iPhoto... It does seem to have started when I started using iPhoto '11 (have had problems with that, too), but that could be coincidental. It's only started in the past few weeks. So far I've tried:
repairing permissions with both Onyx and Disc Utility
repairing hard drive with both Onyx and Disc Utility
performing some maintenance operations with Onyx (clearing caches)
    reinstalling Snow Leopard
Nothing seems to be helping. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be most grateful. I've searched the forums but this is such a generalized problem that it's hard to know where to even begin to look.

Thanks so much for the guidance, this is a tough problem to nail down. Before I do that, I had an idea about what might be causing this... I've been having font issues. After doing some reading on it it appears that corrupt fonts can cause this sort of overall behavior, i.e. sluggishness, spinning beach ball, crashes... I ran Font Book and have several fonts that are questionable (i.e. not "safe to use"). I'm looking for a font utility which will fix corrupted fonts, because some of these are essential to me (Arial, Hoefler Text). Just looking to cover all bases before I do the obvious.
The other complicating factor is that I am going to be getting a new 11" Macbook Air and giving this one to a friend. Obviously I'm going to wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall the OS before I do that, but I was hoping to use Migration Assistant to get my stuff on the new MBA. Didn't want to go through all the work of reinstalling 3rd party apps, etc.
Any suggestions for hunting down font problems would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • M2v file causes Spinning Beach Ball of Death? How do you use Video???

I used FCP to mark a silent video and sent it to Compressor. I was going to use Soundtrack Pro to add some sound to the track for DVD. Every time I try to drag an m2v file over, I just get a spinning beach ball and if it loads at all, it takes about a minute or two before I regain control over the program. The m2v file is 500 megs. The problem now is if I try to scrub the video, every time I do, I get the spinning ball again. I've had to force quit a few times.
I've got over 5 megs of RAM, but I'm on a G5 dual processor 2.5 ghz, not an intel.
I'm wondering if I am trying to do something in a way I should not, or if there is a problem with StPro. I have the latest updates to the Studio. I'm on Tiger 10.4.11
Also, I cannot see the markers from the compressor file, while they are visible in DVD Pro.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

I am referring specifically to the type of compression used in the .mov file. MPEG-2, Sorenson, H.264, DV, etc., are all types of codecs used to compress the picture in a QuickTime movie.
Some are easier to work with than others.
I'm not sure how you produced the .m2v file, that is usually a format with MPEG-2 video. Could it be you just got it from a DVD?
When you export the picture from FCP choose a different output format. Make a QuickTime movie and choose a hi-quality intermediate codec like DV.
