Create .kml based google map in iWeb

Using iWeb 08, I can easily and successfully insert google maps into my pages using the web widget. I am then limited to an address though for the base map.
Does anyone know whether it is possible to insert a google earth based .kml file in iWeb so that when a user opens the page, the desired placemarks etc... are displayed and available?
If so, how might I go about accomplishing this?
any pointers are very much appreciated!

Don't use iweb2 google map widget.
Instead, go to google map, enter the GPS coordinates, then add it using HTML Snippet. See this thread:

  • Inserting Google map into iweb page

    Hello
    I have just bought iWeb 2, and used it to start a website at http://web.mac.com/peterdewit/toymaker/Home.html. (it comes up if you leave the end bit off!)
    I followed what seemed to be incredibly simple instructions to create a Google map. It looked so easy I thought it was too good to be true. Unfortunately that turned out to be the case!
    After more than one hour I gave up. A map of 1 Infinite Loop Cupertino California was determined to remain as the star attraction of my Location page. Even my wooden Royal Danish Life Guard and Grenadier Guards Drum Major couldn't remove it!
    Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
    Any help gratefully accepted.

    Here's a wild guess...
    Sometime ago, I read in this forum about somebody having problems with the default email address used by iWeb for the "email me" button. It seems to get this from your personal information in "Address Book" which you filled in when you first opened the application.
    If you didn't do this, it is probably still using the Apple Computer Inc. information.
    Try trashing the Apple entry and make sure your own "user" one is up to date with your correct address, email etc.
    I hope this helps - I DID say it was a wild guess!

  • Is there a way to get "user created" content from google maps on my touch?

    Hi,
    I have tried to figure out a way to load some saved maps I have made on Google Maps on to my ipod touch but it hasn't been working. I don't see any options to load such info and when I tried to go to gmaps from the Safari browser it automatically loads the Map app...I bypassed this by sending an email with a link to the user created content but safari had trouble reading the page probably due to frames or some other inline content...There has to be a way to do this - it is a really valuable feature to have, especially since the user community has offered up their maps to the web as well.
    HELP?

    Welcome to the Forums!
    If you're using a Mac, you can save the maps a jpg images, then transfer them to your IPT using FileMarkMaker.
    Hope this helps...

    exactly the same problem here. I have just deleted my map for now. Judging by all the other topics we have got off lightly - something major has gone wrong at macs end but they haven't bothered to tell anyone. despite the fact that we all visit the mac homepage, get rss news feeds etc.........

  • Any way to create donation-based Membership Accounts in iWeb?

    Hello,
    I am trying to create a membership site where people can join with a donation in iWeb '09. How can I implement encryption as well as automatically generated membership access with a database of members? Hopefully that makes sense. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thank you!

    There are 3rd party services/sites that offer this very service. I'd open up an account with one of them, and then add a linked button (HTML Snippet) that they generate onto your site.

  • Google map does not recognize coordinates in links

    When touching a google map link such as
    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.749420,-121.958588
    in any iphone application it correctly launches the google map application but does not recognize the coordinates. The very same link works correctly in pc based google maps. This looks like a major flaw which prevents using location links in iphone, yet I am surprised I did not find any discussion about this issue.

    Well, it appears to be a bug in the Google Maps App. I tried your URL and got a map of the Indian Ocean. However, zooming the map as big as I could, I found a red pin in San Ramon, CA. It looks like the coordinates are located accurately, but the map is not centering on those coordinates.
    This would be a good subject for http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.htm

  • Google Maps features no longer work or are extremely slow

    After upgrading my 1st gen iPhone to 2.0.x, many things don't work as they should. Either at all or there is an incredible delay before working.
    One issue is that after you've created directions in Google maps from point A to point B, if you want to reverse the directions, the reverse (s-shaped) button no longer works.
    Also the bookmarks button is very very delayed, as is contacts and the + button to add anything.

  • Using XML file in Java script to create Google Map

    Hello,
    I work for a non-profit in San Diego as a GIS Specialist. I have had to teach myself about some scripting to create some dynamic maps, but I am still very limited in my skills, so I have had to explore the internet in order to discover various tutorials and examples that have led me on a positive path.
    Right now I am working on a Google Mash-Up that will incorporate over 14,000 records, which will appear as separate markers that will have pop-up info bubbles with additional info inside (using html), once the marker is clicked.
    Here is the XML script example that is used in the tutorial I am following:
    <markers>
    <marker lat="43.65654" lng="-79.90138" html="Some stuff to display in the<br>First Info Window"
    label="Marker One" />
    <marker lat="43.91892" lng="-78.89231" html="Some stuff to display in the<br>Second Info Window"
    label="Marker Two" />
    <marker lat="43.82589" lng="-79.10040" html="Some stuff to display in the<br>Third Info Window"
    label="Marker Three" />
    </markers>
    ...and this is how it looks when the file is retrieved by the java script and mapped: http://econym.googlepages.com/example_map3.htm
    This is the java script that creates the Google Map. I have emboldened the section of the script that retrieves the data and parses it to create the markers:

    This is the tutorial where I found the formatting techniques to successfully create the large xml file that will format/convert my excel file properly: http://www.mrexcel.com/tip064.shtml
    These variables should appear as html in the info bubble:
    <ConnectoryID>2</ConnectoryID>

    The "Marker" variable instructs Google Maps to label the marker with a particular color. I will be so grateful to the person(s) that helps me get through this wall that I have been hitting for a long time. It's very difficult without having the luxury of peers who know about these types of issues.
    Thank you!!

    Here is the relationship: They both contain geographic coordinates that produce a point on a map. I will use the rest of the information in the second xml file (company name, address, link, etc.) to produce the information for the bubble that will pop up once the marker is clicked.
    My problem is that I need to try to keep the second xml file in a relatively similar format, so the rest of my records will still be accepted. If I had a smaller amount of records I could place them directly into the javascript, but because there are so many records, I need to use an xml file that can be retrieved by the java script. I chose to use the second type of xml file because I can easily copy and past the 14,000+ records that are now in excel document.
    After the xml issue is corrected I need to rework the javascript that is now emboldened so that it will read the new xml file correctly. I included the first xml file so that the readers will understand what type of xml format is currently being used to produce the markers in the tutorial map.

  • IWeb Google Maps and Photo Gallery Question

    I have a Website I started to create a while back. Is there a way to insert a google map and some type of photo gallery
    into my site, now that MobileMe is gone???  I really liked the simplicity of iWeb. Is there anything else out there?
    Thanks, Eric U

    You can still insert Google maps into your site - you just need to do it as you did before the Google maps widget arrived.
    Go to Google maps and create the map you want and then copy and paste the code and place it in an ordinary html snippet and then click on Apply and the map will appear.
    Also, another tip - you could have found all the answers that you were looking for before even posting your question by searching this forum and there have been literally hundreds of posts on the same topics of Google maps and slide shows.
    Suggest you search the forum and look for posts by Old Toad and Roddy, who have found alternatives.
    You don't need to stop using iWeb - if you have it use it, but just upload to another host/server.
    There are plenty of alternative out there - again a forum search would have given you answers.
    Take a look at RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express and Flux 4.  You can download free trials of all of these and most are available for purcahse from the Mac App Store.

  • In iWeb, Why should my Google map be linked to MobileMe

    I have a Google map on my website.
    Now that MobileMe has closed I cannot use Google Maps.
    In iWeb, Why should my Google map be linked to MobileMe when I have never joined MobileMe?

    Use the Google Map code in an HTML Snippet instead.

  • Can't print Google Maps embedded in iWeb 08 pages

    I have created a web page using iWeb 08; the page has several Google maps embedded. I realize that the Google maps are interactive but I can't find a way to print the web page showing the Google maps. When I print, I get blank space where the maps are. I've tried printing from Safari, iWeb and via PDF but none of these methods print the map as shown on the screen. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks for any help.
    James

    You cannot.
    It's the way Apple embeds the map in the page.
    Solution: Go to Google Maps, find your location, copy the HTML Embed code and paste it with the HTML Snippet.
    Next problem: When printing the page, I see scroll bars on the printed page.
    Problems, problems problems, will it ever stop.

  • My Google Map was Changed by iWeb to The MobileMe web page!!!?????

    I had a previously published site that included a Google map for directions. After editing a different page in my site and publishing, iWeb changed my google map to Apple's corporate address and the map was replaced by the mobileme web page. I have tried to overrite the page, deleted the page and constructed a new one but I can only get the mobileme webpage. It won';t accept my requested address...Any suggestions or anyone else having this problem?

    It's done that to mine as well. That's not the only issue that has arisen since the transition to MobileMe. Based on what I'm reading here in the discussions, it looks like there aren't any solutions and most likely won't be until Apple releases either an iWeb update or does some serious work on the iWeb hosting feature of the MobileMe service. It's frustrating. I'm sure they're aware of the problem and are trying to solve it.

  • Do google maps still work in iweb 08?

    I just checked our website (randomly) and noticed that a google map that we had put up is no longer working.  We've used iWeb '08 to create and publish our website.  It appears that the google maps widget no longer works.  Is this a common thing?  Is this a new direction that Apple is going?  Has anybody else had this problem?  If so, how did they fix it?  Help please.

    Yes, of course it is a common thing and yes of course others have had this problem and you would have found this out if you had done a search of the forum before posting.
    Your problem is far from unique and is due to the MobileMe closure at the end of June this year.  Some elements of the Google map widget were stored on the MobileMe servers which is why it no longer works.
    There is a very simple fix and all you need to do is go to Google maps and set up the map that you want and then copy and paste the code from that into an ordinary html snippet in iWeb and click Apply in the normal way and you will have your map back.
