Creating scrollable frames on a blank page?

Hi all
I've got a site on which I use a blank 1.0 "black" template as the front page. I have created a number of boxes where I put different text and pictures which change on a fairly regular basis, but I now want to make the individual boxes scrollable since 1) some browsers are not fitting the content in each box properly, and 2) I want to keep the box sizes constant and simply allow visitors to scroll up and down within boxes.
How would I go about doing this? I use iWebEnhancer to insert html and iframes into some pages, so can tweak html if needed.
Javascript would be a sweet way of doing it, although a simple html scroll bar would also be fine (and would probably avoid software issues on different computers). I just don't know what the coding to be inserted would be.
The page is at www.narly.co.nz if you want to see what I mean about having text boxes on the page. At the moment some browsers (FF on PC) won't show some pictures in the top left box, as it runs out of space, although FF on Mac, Safari and IE on PC all view it fine.

You can achieve this in several ways:
If you wish to use an iframe, then within the first iframe tag you need to put in the 'source' of the frame, eg
<iframe src="http://mysite.com/sitename/myexternalpage" width="640" height="380" scrolling="yes"></iframe>
You will see that the src can be your own page, where you've put a simple text box with the text in, and uncheck the boxes 'include page in navigation menu' and 'display navigation menu'.
The other method could be to use a textarea tag. Something like this:
<textarea id="blah" readonly="readonly" rows="5" cols="10">your text here, blah blah blah</textarea>
But looking at your original question, I just wonder if you are making things more complicated than they need be. Why not reduce the font size and/or increase the text box size and/or increase the inset margin dimension? Also do not try and put text right up to the edge of boxes because browsers do render sizes a little differently.

Pages '08 creating unwanted sections, cannot delete blank pages

I'm in a bind - and in a rush - and Pages is misbehaving. I've been duplicating pages in the thumbnail viewer to maintain formatting, and then replacing text in text boxes. Suddenly, when I go to duplicate a page, Pages creates a section with a blank page attached and I cannot get rid of the blank page. When I try to delete the blank page, it also deletes a page of content.
This is frustrating, and I really need to get this project to the printer tomorrow.

Why are bookmarks being created whenever I Insert a blank page?

I am currently using a trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. I notice that whenever I want to edit my PDF and insert a blank page into the pdf that a bookmark will be created for each blank page that I am adding. I am wondering if the bookmark creation tool was some automatic selection that is applied when you create the blank page? Is it possible to turn it off? This can become quite a hassle if you are adding a number of blank pages sporadically throughout the document.

I am also trying to do this same thing.

but it still does not work.
My invisible line prints on every other page, however
my repeating frame prints on every page with no page breaks.
Do you have any suggestions?

Creating a frame within a iweb page

I would like to create a frame within one of my iweb pages so that I can maintain the navigation menu while incorporating expose photo slide (or any other external page to be displayed within my page).
Please correct me if I am wrong but I don't think this is possible using iweb and must edit the source code.
Does anyone know if there are any templates out there I could just copy and past to get this done? i am simply looking to create a frame pretty much taking up the entire center of the existing page while leaving the navigation menu in tacked. Do appreciate the help!

How to create slideshow for pictures on blank page

G'day,
I'm just starting to use iWeb 09 and would like to ask a really basic question. My apologies in advance if it has been asked and answered in the past.
I have created a page using the "blank page" template and added some text and pictures. On the photo page, I understand that you can click on a photo to see a larger version and to run a slideshow. Is it possible to create this functionality for pictures placed on a blank page? Or is this functionality only available on a photo album page?

I believe you can do so. Create the photo page, click on the thumbnail layout box and copy it. Go to the blank page and paste. You'll have to lengthen the page using the Inspector/Page/Layout pane so the entire thumbnail layout box is visible in the body. Then go back and delete the photo page.
This test slideshow page was copied from another site in iWeb and pasted on a blank page: PhotoCopy. It seems to work just like the Photo page.

Failed to load the folio. Pan Only, Scrollable Frame Overlay

Hello All,
I get the error "Failed to load the folio." when previewing a page in the Content Viewer with a scrollable frame overlay using this technique described here:

I checked the KB but the solution to remedy the problem is vague. I am not using any offending characters and what's odd is that I can pan and zoom images without a problem. When I try to scroll the text I get the error.
The folio I am testing is a new document, there is no other content other than this text frame. I've compiled other folios without a hitch but this is the first instance I am using this technique. The workstation I am working on had the prerelease tools on it then upgraded to the most current version about a week ago.
I am guessing that maybe the prerelease tools were not properly removed and that could possibly be a problem? If so what files am I looking for or is there a link someone can provide?
Or maybe the current tools/Content Viewer need to be removed and installed again? Again, what files need to be removed?

Thanks for the link. I have tried both techniques, the layer and the paste into and both yeild the same result with the "Failed to load the folio." error. I also forgot to mention that I am using CS5.

Blank Page with button

I need to create a blank page with a button. When the button is pressed a process is run.
I created a blank page, can create a process, but does not allow creation of a button.
Any ideas.

Hi!
I wonder if you have created a region on your blank page? Without a region you can't create a button. You may use a template for your region without title and border so your regions is invisible for the user.

What causes blank pages appearing suddenly in an autoflowed-text document?

CS5.5, english version.
The complete book was built-up and all master pages were applied . When reopening the file, several blank pages appeared at two places in the document. The text flow was not interrupted, but seamed «hidden» under a non-existing white layer. The software showed «Master page applied», but the pages were blank, imposible to select any object or to place a new text frame. It was also impossible to reapply the master page (the pages were still blank after). We could not access the hidden part of text, even if it was obviously still present, and we had no choice but rebuild a new document.
We don't know what caused this very disturbing bug, and we would avoid it to reappear again! If someone knows a trick, you're welcome!

Le livre était monté en entier avec pages maîtresses appliquées. Lors d'une réouverture du fichier, plusieurs pages vides sont apparues, à deux endroits dans le document. Le texte n'était pas interrompu, mais semblait «caché» sous un calque blanc. Le logiciel affichait l'icône de la page maîtresse appliquée, mais la page demeurait vide. Impossible de sélectionner une boîte de texte ni de parvenir à réappliquer la page maîtresse. Nous n'avons pas réussi à accéder à la portion de texte «cachée» sous ces pages vides, bien qu'elle n'ait de toute évidence pas été perdue.
Nous n'avons pas trouvé d'autre solution que de recommencer le montage à zéro à partir d'un nouveau document, mais nous ne savons pas ce qui a causé ce problème, ni comment éviter qu'il survienne à nouveau.
Si quelqu'un a déjà rencontré cette anomalie et peut m'informer, bienvenue!

I'm afraid I don't have any good news for you, though I was able to get the text to reappear by deleting the blank pages and inserting new ones, then rethreading. Youy could do this, but I suspect it is a short-term fix that won't last a day and more important, that output will fail.
ID seems to think the frames on the blank pages are lines with astronomically long lengths and they seem to be sheared as well. Needless to say that seems to be some sort of corruption in the file. The reason that I don't have good news is that I've been completely unable to export anything useful for repair out of the file and reimport it-- neither .idml or tagged text. In all cases I get an error message that the either the file does not exist, it is in use or I don't have permission. I know the files exist -- I can open the text file in a text editor, and I can see the components of the .idml file if I change the extension to .zip, but I can't convince any version of ID to access either of them.
I looked through the file history and noticed that this file began life as a CS4 file that was converted to CS5.5 in August of 2011. I think that's the source of the problem. From time to time we get reports of unexplainable glitches or files that will not output, or just refuse to open at some point, even though they were fine hours earlier, and quite often it turns out that these are legacy files that were directly updated in a newer version. Because of this I now recommend that all legacy files that are to be converted be exported to .inx or .idml from the original version, then that exported file should be opened in the new version.
Actually I had one more thought, and it seems to have been at least partly successful. As I mentioned, I was able to export the main story to InDesign Tagged Text and open that in a text editor (Notepad in this case, since I'm on PC). I tried saving the file from notepad with a new name and lo and behold I can now import it into a new file or use it to replace the text in the original. I tried the replacement, and exporting another .idml. but that still fails to reopen, so the corruption is not in the text of the main story. A .idml file export from a new .indd with the resaved tagged text placed in it also is working.
This means you actually have a good shot at rebuilding this file fairly quickly. Export the stories to tagged text, open those in a plain text editor of your choice and resave as plain text, then place them into a new document with the same page dimensions and margins (rebuild the master pages from scratch in the new file). Make a backup copy of the file with just the text, and make sure it is working properly and that you can export to .idml and PDF, then add the images and check again. I think this is going to work, though it may take a few hours.
DON'T overwrite any of the files you have already -- use new names, and do a save As a the end of each session or at any major change point adding a version number to the name so you have a good backup version chain in case something goes wrong again. Good luck.

New update break scrollable frame positioning

hello all,
after the recent dps update my scrollable frame lost the ability to use "document positioning" for the content within the frame.
before i can set the content position and have it scroll horizontally from the set position. now after the update the content scrolls in both direction.
please help.

Scrollable frame prevents swipe to next page

Does anybody else find when they create a PDF format for the iPad that scrollable frames don't work as well as in auto format.
I have placed a large scrollable frame which takes up 3/4 of my page. When I swipe to the next page the scrollable frame wont let me swipe?

bugs and behaviour like this is a suspicious sign of a wrong architecture,
too many cooks/programmers ruining the menu (a German spoke word), or
incomplete testing.
DPS is a massive complex system.but for these, data models and information
architecture are critical to success.
I see movement at adobe here. there are more and more people from adobe
responding to problems, actually engineering on these forums and more
concise product management. one can feel that.
but sometimes, these "funny" things happen... they don't matter to the big
publishers still on sprint 15 or enterprise level publishers with their own
track if DPS (visible in the cryptic version number for the WIRED reader
and others).
but they matter to the designers, makers, thinkers and people on the
bleeding edge of DPS actually trying to produce stuff and stumble upon
these things.

Scrollable frame in PDF-based folio prevents page swipe

Can someone confirm for me that scrollable frames in a PDF-based folio prevent one from being able to use that area to swipe to the next page?

I confirm too.
We publish a weekly magazine for iPad2 and iPad3.
iPad2 folio is a jpg one, and we use pdf format for iPad3.
Scrollable full page contents work fine on iPad2 but prevent swiping on iPad3.
Our solution: creating "cold zones" on the edges of the pages using buttons (setting them "navto://nowhere"). I think it's the simpliest way to make it work.

I might make a wild guess that you are using WORD and have used hard page breaks. If that is the case, then likely what happens is when you print to PDF the document is being reflowed to match the printer and the forced page break may end up on the next page and be forcing a second page. Just a guess.

How do I create a multi-page doc / add blank pages in PSE 11?

I am creating printable PDF files and up to yesterday I was using a free trial of PSE 10. To create a multi page document I first saved it as a PSE project file, then added blank pages, then when I was done I saved it as a PDF and voila - done!
Now my trial has run out I have bought the paid version (which is now version 11) and I seem to have lost that option entirely. The product is useless to me without a way to create multi page PDFs - can anyone help?
Alternatively can I downgrade back to PSE10 which was fine for me!

Thanks - I just spent an hour online to support, they won't refund me until they can work out why it won't allow it in the new version?!! So they have shared my screen and taken my files to be worked on "at the next level" - there didn't seem to be an option to accept that this feature just wasn't available in the version 11, they kept trying to make it do it. Especially as they could open my multi page projects created in version 10 and add pages to them!
Anyway, I would be open to using another free software MichelBParis, but I found it such a steep learning curve to figure out how to do it in PSE10, it would need to be simple. Do you have links to any you could recommend?
