Creating TOC and RoboSource Control

We are two users working on the same project in RoboHelp and
using RoboSource Control. We are having problems working on the TOC
- can we both be working on it or should only one person work on
it. It's creating errors every time the project is checked in and
out - books disappear from the TOC and duplicate files are
created.

Hi Leapy,
Only one person should work on the TOC (.HHC) at a time. RH
Source control should stop you both having the TOC checked out at
the same time?
Or are you having problems checking the TOC in and out and
updating it at different times? If so, what errors are being
displayed.
Kind Regards
Craig

  • Custom TOC and player controls

I would like to customize the entire player and TOC navigation for my captivate project.
For example, I would love to have my clients logo above the TOC and create a custom look and feel to the entire experience. Example I would model the design after: http://www.articulate.com/community/showcase/?page_id=96
Can you elaborate on the steps I need to take to create a custom look and feel to the navigation and player? Is there detailed documentation I can read on this subject? My friend can write the custom actionscript, I'm just not sure the general overview of the process. When I export the captivate files to Flash CS3, I do not see the TOC or player files?
    Thank you!

Unfortunately, I don't think you can customise the TOC much beyond the colour controls given in the navigation settings. However, you can access the Playbar FLA's (sources) in Captivate 4, they're located in the Captivate 4 directory under "FLA/Playback" I believe. (or something similar.)
It is important to note however, that this is rather limited in what you can do in terms of customising the playbar. You can make new buttons, give them a different look and feel and change colours, but beyond that, you can't really do much with their layout, as Captivate either wants them in a tiny little center aligned area, or stretched horizontally across the screen depending on what you choose in the 'skin' navigation settings.
I ended up writing some AS code that would override the button positions, and gave them custom X values to place them in different places on the screen. However it never really worked entirely too well, as I wanted a custom width playbar, and I couldn't get it looking right.
In the end I just decided to make my own playbar in Flash, and import it as a widget. This shouldn't be too hard for your friend if he has a reasonable amount of AS experience. Best place to start is to have a look at the perpetual buttons widget that is provided with Captivate 4. I essentially just built upon that one to add more buttons and functionality that comes from the captivate toolbar.
You can check out the variables you need here: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/05/list_of_system_variables_in_cp.html
It will then just be a matter of making code to make the buttons do what you want by calling/assigning those variables. The hardest part is making a custom playbar, but you can choose to use the Captivate one for ease sake if you want to go that option as well.
    Hope that helps!

  • Qs About SQL Server and RoboSource Control

    Hi. I have two questions:
    (1) Will the SQL Server Compact edition work as the db used
for RoboSource Control? I know that it has a limit of 4 GB.
    (2) Do I have to install a copy of RoboHelp (and, thus, of
the RoboSource Server Configuration Utility) onto the network
server where my SQL database is located, or can I configure the SQL
database remotely from one of the client machines?
    Thanks!

Hi. Yes, you are correct that the "RSC Server" is really just
a SQL db that you have modified using the RSC Database
    Configuration tool.
We are working on a client project from several
locations--some people are at the client site sometimes, some
people are at home sometimes, and some people are at our company
site sometimes. The client software that we are documenting
requires us to be connected to the client VPN if we are not at the
client site. However, we would like to store the RH files on our
company server, which can be VPN'd into from either our client site
    or from home.
Apparently the VPNs will pass the IP/HTTP protocols that
SQL/RSC uses. What we'd have to do is log into the company VPN (if
necessary) at the beg of the day, use the "offline" feature of RSC
to check out the documents, and then log off the company VPN and
onto the client VPN to access the software we are documenting. Then
reverse the process at the end of the day or whenever.
However, our company doesn't want to install SQL on our
storage machine which is just a file server. And we don't want to
store it on the client site, either. (We're just documentation and
training, after all, not real software developers.)
One alternative to using RSC is to use merged projects, since
each tech writer will only be working on one section of the
documentation at a time. However, I'm concerned about context
sensitivity and merged projects. I found a good discussion where
one of the Peters (the two gurus on here who are named Peter) gave
an extensive description of how to do CS with merged projects.
However, someone reported that they couldn't get it to work using
    RH7.
As a relatively novice (though technically inclined) user, I
would like to avoid the issues with merged projects and CS.
Therefore, I think what I'm going to do is store the RSC server on
my local machine and check out the documents for tech writers
myself, then check them back in when the writer is done.
I'm testing today and I will report back on my results.
Thanks for your responsiveness and let me know if you have
    any opinions on this!

  • Strange behavior of auto-create destionations and access control

I'm noticing some strange behavior that looks like a bug in IMQ 3.5 SP1 (and earlier). I can't find any mention of this in the Sun Bug parade so I thought I'd ask here.
    Background:
    1) Admin-created queue named 'foo' exists. Verified with imqcmd.
    2) User 'bob' wants to access 'foo' as a consumer.
    3) accesscontrol.properties, relevant sections:
    queue.foo.consume.allow.user=bob
    queue.create.deny.user=*
    4) When config.properties has:
    imq.autocreate.queue=false
    then the connection works fine.
    5) However when config.properties has:
    imq.autocreate.queue=true
the following error is provided when connecting:
com.sun.messaging.jms.JMSSecurityException: [C4077]: Client is not authorized to create destination : foo
My reading of the manual says that user 'bob' should be able to connect to destination 'foo' even though he doesn't have the queue creation privilege because 'foo' is an administratively created queue that already exists.
A short term workaround is to allow all users to have the create privilege. This is not a good thing from a security design standpoint. I want only one user to have this privilege and all others should not have it. Unfortunately, without this privilege, all other users can no longer connect.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide on this issue.

I've reproduced this and it sure looks like a bug. I've submitted bug:
    5024685 ACLs: queue.create.deny.user=* and imq.autocreate.queue=true interact poorly
I think the best workaround is to set imq.autocreate.queue=false
    and administratively create all destinations.

  • RoboHelp / RoboSource Control issue

We are authoring a large manual using Adobe RoboHelp 7 HTML
    and RoboSource Control.
Occasionally, we are confronted with a situation that project
files are NOT checked in properly.
    Example:
Day 1: Updating the manual. All files are checked in. No
    error or other messages.
Day 2: When opening the project, some files are flagged as
    being checked out.
When trying to check in these files in RoboHelp 7 HTML,
RoboHelp responds that those files are NOT checked out, so
    apparently something is corrupt.
When we turn to RoboSource Control, we can undo the checkout,
but this is a very tedious job, since it can only be done on
individual files. The only other alternative is to start out with a
new database, but this also means that we're removing all our
    version info.
We are unable to recreate this situation, but we have this
feeling that it occurs when files have been checked out for a
    longer period of time.
Is there a known issue concerning the above?

Hi hermie1, and welcome to the board! Sometimes when you do a
checkin all, RoboSource Control will stumble over one of the files
and silently terminate the checkin process. For this reason, it's a
good idea to do a Checkin All prior to closing the project. Then
take a look to make sure that nothing remains checked out. Also, be
sure to click the Refresh Status icon in the toolbar. I have found
myself trying to check in files that were already checked in, just
because my list wasn't up to date!
That is the simple situation, easily remedied. Your situation
may be more complex. If something is corrupt, the usual culprit is
the cpd file. You might try rebuilding it. (Back up your project
    first.)
For future reference, this topic would be better placed in
the RoboSource Control forum, so as to assist anyone searching for
    related information.

  • Errors installing RoboSource Control

I cannot successfully install RoboSource Control 3.1, which
is part of the Technical Communications Suite that I recently
bought. I am trying to install it on a computer running
(factory-installed) Vista. I get error messages that state that
NGMenu.dll and DirBkgndExt.dll "failed to register." HRESULT
2147024891. I previously had downloaded the trial version of
RoboHelp, which included the trial version of RoboSource Control. I
uninstalled both prior to installing the Tech Comm Suite.
I have opened a support case with Adobe and have talked
numerous times with their technical support staff. We have tried
many different things that they have suggested, but thus far have
not solved the problem. I have tried installing in simplified mode,
installing in selective startup mode, and manually registering the
dlls (with Regsvr32). My system has no viruses. I made sure to run
my virus checking software prior to installation. I've run the
error checking tool to make sure that there are no damaged sectors
or fragmented files on my hard disk. That looks fine. I've tried
uninstalling and re-installing the entire Tech Comm pkg, RoboHelp
and RHSource Control together, and RHSource Control by itself. At
the instruction of Adobe Tech support, I deleted the RoboHelp,
RoboHTML, and RoboSource Control keys in the registry under
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Adobe" and
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe."
I checked permissions on my user account -- the one I use to
log on to my operating system with. This account has administrator
permissions. I am the only person using my computer, and I am using
this user account when I install the RHSource Control and Tech Comm
Suite. My user account also has full read/write permissions in the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch of the Registry.
At Adobe Tech Support's request, I also tried disabling
    Windows Vista User Access Control.
None of these things have worked, and unless Adobe's Tech
Support provides other ideas, I don't know how to solve this
    problem.
Has anyone had a similar problem, or does anyone have any
ideas about what may be causing this problem. I would be very
grateful for any information you can provide!

You do not have to uninstall the previous version of
    RoboSource Control first.

  • Installing RoboSource Control 3 Server

We upgraded to RH7 and installed both RH7 and RoboSource
Control 3 (Client) on my machine. I found directions on "things to
do before installing" from Peter Grainge. Among those directions,
it specified uninstalling the previous version of RH from my
computer before installing the new version. That all worked out
    okay.
Now, we need to upgrade the server with RoboSource Control 3
Server, but I haven't seen any instructions stating the need to
uninstall the previous version. Is that necessary before installing
3 or can we install the upgrade on top of it?
    Thanks!

  • Upgrade to RoboSource Control 3

We are in the process of upgrading RoboHelp and RoboSource
Control. We currently are using RSC2 but need to move to RSC3. Is
there an upgrade path to be able to use the existing access db that
we are using for RSC2? I have been searching but cannot find
documentation. A link to documentation or any help would be
    appreciated!
    Thanks

There is an upgrade path from RSC 2 to 3. You will really
like the stability of SQL Server 2005 (or Express) vs. the old
    Access db.
In addition to the documentation that comes with the separate
RSC Explorer app, be sure to check out Matthew Ellision's revised
article just posted on the Adobe Developer Connection. You'll find
    it here.

OK, I need to be able to have a linked TOC, and also have destinations created in FM10 that will not be lost when I 1. Save the book as a PDF; then 2. I need the PDF to be as small as possible, but without losing my destinations. Anyone know how to do that??
I had been saving as a PDF and then reducing the size of the PDF by printing it as a PDF with a degree of image compression. I write manuals with a LOT of screen captures and line art that needs to be clear. So it is a balancing act between image clarity and PDF size. The PDFs on the web need to be smaller - sure you can undertsand.
Anyway, when I print the PDF again, I lose both my destinations and bookmarks.
Anyone know of any way to avoid that?

Control the images by creating a custom PDF Job Options and then selecting it in the PDF Job Options drop-down of the PDF setup dialog box (File > Save as PDF...)
Create the custom PDF Job Options file with Distiller. If you do not have Distiller, open the Printing Preferences of the Adobe PDF printer. Start with the Smallest File Size Job Options settings and Edit.

  • Unable to manually add topics to TOC in RoboHelp 11 when working with RoboSource Control 3.1

    Hello,
I am working on RoboHelp11 and using RoboSource Control 3.1.  I am facing an issue while making an attempt to manually add new topics to the TOC (drag and drop), the error alert ' 'xxxxxx.hhc cannot be multiply Checked out' and further the alert 'The files in the list below could not be checked out from Version Control. Exclusive access to these files is required to execute the selected action.' appears.  Note that the said project file is checked out only by me and no else in the team has checked it out from source control..
Can someone provide guidance on how to resolve this issue.

I am having this same problem.
Updated itunes to 7.0 on my pC
    Updated 30GB Video ipod's firmware...
Cound no longer manually sync files to ipod...
    Files start uploading..
Then 1/2 way through the procedure, itunes says something Like "Updating ipod please wait"
and a few seconds later just stops with the upload.
I cant find the uploaded files on the ipod.
I tried updating itunes to 7.01 - no luck
I tried restoring my ipod - no luck
I tried resetting my ipod - no luck
I tried manually syncing my ipod on a computer with an older version of itunes and everything

ASM is reliable but a smart DBA is very careful. If ASM is doing mirroring this is like RAID doing mirroring. What happens if you accidentally delete one copy ... the other one disappears instantly. Not a good idea.
With respect to redo logs you need a minimum of three groups, two members, and one thread per instance. So a 2 node cluster should, at a minimum have 12 physical files.
Not mirroring the redo logs, assuming multiple members, is not as critical.

  • RoboHelp hangs at startup and using robosource control

    Hi everybody,
I am relatively new to this forum. I have been using RH X5.02
    now for a few months.
    |'m quite pleased with it until now and find all postings
    here very useful.
So I was content until last monday when I returned from a
    holiday of 10 days.
Normally I start RH by clicking a link to RoboHTML.exe from
    my desktop.
Instead of asking me which of my projects to open I got
    ZILCH.
RH just hangs, the only way to stop is to use task manager to
    end the process.
The same happens when I want to add a project to version
    control.
the icons of my 'Most recently used file list' (Tools -
Options - General) contain a big red question mark.
I can't remember seeing that before.
Based on previous postings I unchecked 'Save without prompt'.
    This didn't change anything.
I did experiment installing PushOK CVS SCC NT interface (v
2.1.1.2) to be able to use the Turtoise CVS version control system
    which seemed to work OK.
I didn't decide to use the PushOK and Turtoise system yet,
but kept on using RoboSource control. I didn't uninstall the PushOK
interface as I wanted to do an extra test on our central Turtoise
    CVS system later.
I had to renew the trial license for PushOK's software when I
came back. This came up when I started RoboHTML the first time
    after my holiday.
As I suspected that this extra interface could have something
to do with my problems I uninstalled and reinstalled all software,
without reinstalling the PushOK software. I did take the projects
out of version control before I uninstalled everything.
I expected to have no problems after all this, but to my
    surprise it didn't change anything.
I suspect it has to be something in the registry and/or the
    project files themselves.
I am working on several RH HTML-projects at the 'same time',
switching from one into another. All projects are (or were) in
    RoboSource control.
I'm working on a Dell laptop using Windows XP Professional
which is automatically updated to latest versions. Yes, all files
are installed locally on the laptop, including the files in
    RoboSource Control.
We use NOD 32 virus scanning software.
Can anybody shine some light on this
    situation?
    tks, Paul

    Hi Peter,
I'm sorry, I left out an important piece of info: when I
start RH from the file manager by clicking a RH project it will
    start.
I also made a shortcut in whit a project-file to open: no
    problem starting.
So I can work and I can open a new project with no problems.
Problem starts as soon as I try to add the project to Version
    Control.
I checked all processes and services on my computer. Made
sure all PushOK and CVS software was not installed.
RoboSourceControl was not able to see alternative SCC drivers
    to use anymore.
    The problems stay.
I can work, if I avoid version control. So I uninstalled
    RoboSourceControl too.
Menu's in RH are adjusted and of course I don't have the
    hangup problem either
I still can't just start the RH exec without specifying a
starting project. It will just freeze.
If you or anybody else have other suggestions I would be
really gratefull, because I want to use the version control.
    tks

  • RoboSource Control 3 Explorer - Admin access and adding users

Just started in a department where users working with RoboHelp HTML 7 are connected to a Windows XP PC on which RoboSource Control 3 Explorer is being used for version control.  The two guys who set up the system are no longer available.  I have the login for one of them, but do not know if he was the Admin or a subadmin in RoboSource Control.  When I go to Admin>User Library, I get the following screen.
    - None of the users show any rights checked.  - That's the first problem.
    - Is there any way that I can determine if the login I'm using is the real Admin?  Does the fact that I have access to the User Library tell me anything about this?
    - When I try to add a user, I get the error message "Error - you have insufficient rights to perform this operation."
    - I need to be able to add users and have Admin level control.  If the login I have is from the actual Admin, then I might be okay.  But if not, am I out of luck?  If that's the case, is my only option to take the following steps?
       1. Have a user check out all the project files.
       2. Disassociate those files from the RoboSource Control machine.  (There are hundred of topics in the project files.)
       3. Set up a new RoboSource Control with myself as the Admin.
    Thanks!

Umm, I'm not sure if it's the same issue, but recently all user rights for every single user in the user library (including the admin) went missing much like yours. I know for a fact that my user profile had admin rights, but at that time, no rights were checked for any user. (The admin user will have, if I'm correct, all the rights selected).
I still don't know what caused the issue, but a simple restart of the server that hosts RoboSource Control was enough to restore permissions in our case. Maybe you could try that and see if the restart helps? Considering that the alternative is setting up a new RSC database, I would think it's worth a shot

  • Step by step Create a Desktop Administrator to have full and total control over desktops only

I have been trying to setup a Desktop Admin so that the group has full and total control over all desktops. I am using SCCM 2012 SP1. I have found very little documentation that explains in detail on how to set this up. I have read about role based access,
but found nothing that explains in detail how to setup an administrator that can do everything but only with desktop machines, not servers.

    Hi John and Matthew,
Great link John, thank you for that.  I did follow the instructions to a "T", but the Desktop Admin is still having problems.  He is trying to image a new machine (so it is not in the collection yet). When he tries to import it by using the "Import
Computer Information Wizard", he gets to the "Choose Target Collection" tab, selects the "Browse" button, but cannot see any collections.  I have verified (using the instructions that Matthew provided - thank you) that he is a "Full Administrator" for
the Desktop collections and folders where they are located.
Could you please tell me what I am missing?
