Creating Validation Pattern Message (like Designer) in Prof 8

We aere using Prof 8, and would like to create a Validation Pattern message (with error box checked) similar to a val pattern message created in LC Designer. Is there any way to do it?

Validation Pattern Message

I want to script a Validation Error Message for a field that, on initialize, is in read-only mode. In Designer, when Type = "Read Only" the Validation Pattern and Validation Pattern Message are disabled. I can add script to define the pattern:
Myfield.validate.picture = "text{99999-9999}|text{99999}";
and trigger the validation:
Myfield.validate.formatTest = "error";
but how can I script the error message that the user sees? Doing the above generates a generic message "Myfield validation failed" but I would like the user to see a more description message, for example "Please enter a 5 digit or 5+4 digit zip code in the format 12345 or 12345-6789".
It seems silly that I add this field property at design time for a field that is NOT read-only, but not for one that toggles on/off from read-only to enabled. Any suggestions?

Clear/empty entry of field after validation pattern message

Can anyone help me please with the following:
Now when user fills a field a validation pattern message shows when entry is not according to validation. BUT...the entry remains.
Do you know how to remove the entry from the field after clicking OK on the validation pattern message box?

I don't know how to do that, but I think it would be user abuse to clear out the field. If I mistype a date or an SSN for example, I don't want to have to type it all over again, just correct my mistake.

Problems with date validation pattern DD.MM.YYYY in Form Builder

(I am using LiveCycle Designer 8.0.)
My form uses an input date field which consistst of DD.MM.YYYY.
Display pattern, edit pattern, validation pattern and date pattern has been set to DD.MM.YYYY.
"Validation Pattern Message"-box has been set to checked.
"Validation Script Message"-box is not checked.
1. When I type:      313101
the system converts the digits to the date 01.01.3131
2. When I type:      3131
the system converts the digits to the date 01.01.3131
3. When I type:       31
I get an error message "Date is not valid."
I need a form to throw an error message if the user doesn`t type the correct input
DD.MM.YYYY. (01.03.2009)

It is not clear to me what your issue is with not being able to sign in to your Adobe account to find the serial number. You should still be able to sign in and find your serial number if you registered the software.
If your first PC is a Windows machine you might be able to extract the serial number from it using the Belarc Advisor

I don't know EG01 transaction, but if SAP says "material 5 does not exist " then SAP is usually right.
Can you give an evidence that material 5 exists? e.g. screenshot from SE16 at table MARA, MARC and MAST

"Multiple Validation errors" message when creating new project in FCPX

As a test I have now managed to change the file format from older quicktime file to .m4v and import into FCPX. I had to use Handbrake to change the file format to .m4v. If a free software can do this then why can't the $300 FCPX - and allow me to import directly? This would save me MANY hours of extra work!
But then, when I try and edit this - first trying to create a new project I get the message "Multiple validation errors occurred" The same message even if I try and custon settings rather than use the default
Does this mean that after all the work and hours it took me to tarnscode the file format, import and then render etc - I will be unable to use FCPX - to edit this footage?

Update on trying to create a new project - and getting "Multiple Validation errors" message
I quit FCPX and tried to use iMovie to make a clip to send to you. Decided against this - and so I opened FCPX again
To my surprise there were now over ten projects - as every attempy had appeared! This is bizarre - why did they not show up when I tried to create them first?
So, I had to delet most and just use one. This appears to be working as a project and is allowing me to edit clips into it.
It will be a reall bummer though if I have to do this every time I need to create a new project!

Regarding Smart form design pattern. Can i create a pattern i want..

Can i create a pattern ( framed or unframed ) for the TABLE which i have created in smartform. Because the patters given there is not so useful for me.
Please help me in this regard.

How to create an error message which doesn't allow submitting form ?

Hi,
is there a way to create an error message so that the user can't submit the form until the error is solved?
On my form I am doing some validation checks when the user hits the button to submit the form via e-mail.
So if something on the form isn't filleld out correctly the user gets an error message. But after the user has clicked ok on the error message he can still send the form.
So I am searching for a way that he can only submit the form if he has resolved the problems.
I tried with
xfa.host.messageBox("material is not valid!" , "error", 0);
but this only shows the error messagen and doesn't prevent the next step.
Can I solve this with using a different type of error message, or user different parameters at the messageBox?

in submit button CLICK event u have to right validation for fields which u want to check.
example : here iam validating two varibles.

Actually I stand corrected. XML Spy does seem to provide an OLE API to XML
validation ( the isValid method on the IDocument class ) although I haven't
tested it yet.
In my previous post I was thinking of another XML product I tested earlier
in the week which did not.

One idea that is possible is to use an OLE interface to a 3rd party XML
product. This assumes your logic which needs to validate is running on a
Windows box. But if so, it may work. Many products have type libraries which
can be run through OLEGen to create Forte classes. Then you can use TOOL to
talk OLE to that product.
For example, XML Spy 3.5 has a type library from which I created a Forte
project. Unfortunately this product didn't offer any extra features than
Forte's XMLParser ( i.e. the API didn't allow me to validate the XML ) so I
am back to using Forte's parser until I can test another product. If you
find one that does what you want let me know.
I've used OLE a lot with Forte to get functionality from other products (

"ParserFactory.makeParser() will return a default,
non-validating XML parser."
My experience is that Forte's default XML parser will
not validate but will throw an exception if the XML
document is not well formed. I'm using the DOM
model and this exception happens on the
Document.importDocument( ) method.
If you want anything more than that you'll have to do
it externally.

there is some change in the XMLSPy4.3/XMLType Library 1.2 :
Validation
One common task on documents is to validate them against an assigned schema or DTD. If the XML file has no schema or DTD already assigned, use "Document.AssignSchema" or "Document.AssignDTD" to add the necessary references to the document.
Examples:
objSpy.ActiveDocument.AssignSchema "C:\mySchema.xsd", False
or
objSpy.ActiveDocument.AssignDTD "C:\myDTD.dtd", False
If you want the user to select a schema or DTD, pass True as the second parameter to these functions to display a file-dialog. These methods only put the reference into the document and do not check the existence of the specified file. If the file path is not valid, the validation will fail.
After you have assigned a valid schema or DTD reference to your file, you are able to validate it with "Document.IsValid". IsValid needs some out-parameters that must be declared as VARIANTs to be accessible from script languages like VBScript and JavaScript.

How to do newline in Validation Script Message

im trying to write a multiline error message in the Validation Script Message for a textfield but everytime I hit return, i end up at the front of the current line instead of a new line. I've also tried \n with no luck. The only way i've found is by entering the text into notepad and then cut+paste into the Validation Script Message box. Is this a bug with Designer? I have Designer ES 8.2.1.3158.1.475346.
I am aware of how to do it by script ex. this.validationMessage = "line1\nline2" but what i want to is store the Section and field name in the Validation Script Message box and then build the error message ontop via script.
ex.
this.validationMessage = this.validationMessage + "Validation failed due to ....";

Just tested this and it looks like ctrl-enter works.

Creating an Error Message

Aloha, all! Long time Flash user, first time on the forums
since Adobe acquired the property. :)
I know this is a weird request, considering we spend a lot of
time asking how to get RID of an error message.
But, I'm trying to design an application where you have to
sign in with your SS#. I want error messages to pop up, when the
user does something wrong, like:
- When the sign in isn't 9 characters long
- When their SS# isn't found in the system...
- etc.
Any ideas on how I can make this happen? I was thinking about
just doing frame jumps, but I'll need a more extensible and easily
manageable solution, something we can work in with SQL over here.

textfield and an insteractive display object that's coded to remove
the error movieclip and anything else you need.
2. assign it a class.

I've tried do that with the validation, with a plsql function returnig boolean... it works fine when the number is wrong...
the error message was fine... how can i implement a sucess message...

Yes that would work. Because you're catching all of the incorrect entries with a validation, the PL/SQL process will never run unless you have the validation is TRUE. This means the process code can always complete successfully because the validation already did the work. So the process need be only one line:
NULL;
Then create the success message as you like and test it. Keep in mind that a process success message may look different from a validation failure message. You might have to modify the look a bit to get them consistent if that's necessary.

You just need to place this script in the "exit" event of the field that u r using for email address.
