CRIO PN (Profinet) from Comsoft

Anyone know when the product is going to be released?  On the Comsoft website the 2010 press release states available soon.
http://www.comsoft.de/html/icpe/press/releases/2010/cRIO_PN.htm
Is Comsoft going to make a PCI or PCIe version of this for ETS?

I have spoken to Comsoft regarding this matter and they state that it will be sold and branded as a NI product. It will be released as soon as it passes NI's tests. October perhaps.
The PCI/PCI-X version is under development and will be released next year.

  • CRIO code deployment from linux

    Hi,
I have a cRIO running out in the field and the only computers permanently connected to it are GUI-less Linux machines. Currently to deploy new code to the cRIO, I go out to one of these Linux machines, steal its network cable, and plug it in to my laptop running Windows. It would be great if I could deploy new code to the cRIOs from one of these Linux machines. Can I simply copy my .rtexe and .lvbitx files over FTP to the cRIO? Does anyone know where I can find more information on this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Maxwell,
What model of cRIO are you using? If you are using anything other than the cRIO-9068 or myRIO (these two run Linux RT as their OS), you can regularly ftp into the target and place the .rtexe in the ni-rt/startup folder(ftp://10.1.X.X/ni-rt/startup/). If you are using a cRIO with Linux RT, you must first install other software.
You could deploy the bitfile to the target in NI-MAX using the steps in this link.
It becomes a little more complicated to ftp the bitfile. One way to do it is to ftp the bitfile to a location on the cRIO and then modify your Open FPGA Reference VI in your RT app to look for that spot.

  • How does cRIO transfer information from input I/O module to the FPGA

I am using 3 different modules with those caracteristcs:
    Module 1:
Resolution: 0.03      Default FXP format: 16,7    FXP resolution: 0.002
    Module 2:
    Resolution: 5.9 10-7      Default FXP format: 24,4   FXP resolution: 9,5 10-7
    Module 3:
    Resolution: 61 10-7      Default FXP format: 26,5   FXP resolution: 4,7 10-7
The default FXP format is too long (fractional part) in all the cases. Why? Maybe, the transfer from input I/O module to the FPGA is through a fixed FIFO,or through the RAM in FPGA and the FXP representation in it?
    thanks

    Hola,

  • How to config cRIO... Help.

I am using a cRIO 9012 and am toatally new to Labview and all the NI peripherals. I am stuck with configuring the cRIO for measuring from a loadcell. Am using a universal module for excitation and output from the loadcell.. My problem is i have no idea of how to set the excitation voltage and conversion of the data thus obtained to a millivolt value in the software.

    Hello,
The basic architecture for LabVIEW FPGA applications (generally) consists of code running on your FPGA which determines your data acquisition rate. The values are read onto your real-time or Windows based host VI at which point they are converted from integer to the double precision number which they are meant to represent.
It sounds as if you might want to take a look at some of the resources that are available to help get you started programming LabVIEW for cRIO applications. The LabVIEW Example Finder contains some great examples that show the overall architecture for FPGA applications: Help » Find Examples » Toolkits and Modules » FPGA » CompactRIO » Basic I/O. These will also show how the conversion is performed to translate integers to actual values. You may also want to take a look at the resources linked in the Getting Started with LabVIEW FPGA knowledgebase. I hope this information is useful for you. Please post back if we can provide any other additional assistance. Thanks,

    Dear vijaynagar,
it would be posible to communicate with our Comsoft PROFIBUS products like DF PROFI II, FNL or cRIO PB.
    Please have a look at:
     - DF PROFII:  PCI, PCIe, C-PCI or PC104+ card with LabVIEW drivers: Link

  • Profibus communication error

    Hello all,
Need some help in troubleshooting problem of crio communication with Synamics drive using profibus.
We used a PLC to connect test and configure and everything works fine. The same GSD file was downloaded and the software from comsoft was loaded with all appropriate drivers of LV12. When only one module is connected as shown in figure the drive connects properly and in online mode it shows green as shown in figure.
But when more than one module is connected in the window it shows blue and in diagnostics report it says 'station not ready' and 'Cfg error' as shown in figure. Could you kindly suggest something .
    Thank you

    Hi Shreyas,
I have no ideas on what the root cause is based on your description, but the blue outline means that the slave is online but has diagnostic data. You should be able to double click on the icon and it will bring up a dialog with a "diagnostic" tab. That tab can be used with the Synamics manual to look up an error message.

  • Associating my CompactRIO to a computer/device name on the network

    Hello,
I have a network connecting a router, several computers and a CompactRIO, configured to use DHCP. Therefore the CompactRIO IP address may change. On the computers I will be using a program that I didn't write, that communicates with the CompactRIO (I wrote the CompactRIO side of the code myself). The program can find the CompactRIO either using an IP address, or a computer name, because it's been designed to work from computer to computer. Unfortunately, since I'm using DHCP I cannot set it to use a fixed address.
Therefore, I would like to install a driver, or run a piece of software, or configure my CompactRIO such that it appears as a computer or device wih a name on the network. A name visible in "Network Places" under Windows for instance.
I should mention that installing a DNS server might work, but is really a last resort option for me.
    Any suggestion?

    Hello Proengin,
First of all don't hesitate next time to post your message on Real-Time Measurement and Control . It will be maybe easier to get an answer.
However, as I understand you're obtaining your cRIO IP address from a DHCP server automatically. Therefore, it's normal that the address isn't fixed. Indeed, each time you'll boot your target, the server will alllocate an IP adress that might be different than the adress previously assigned.
Concerning the second part, you won't be able to make your cRIO appearing as a computer or a device on the network because it's a real-time target and not a Windows device for example.
With real-time targets such as cRIO (or sbRIO, PXI RT,...) you'll be able to check them in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) from "Remote systems" tab.
Hope this information will help !

  • Send data with profibus (Newbie)

Hi, Im new to  labview and have only been working with PLC before so please have patience with my lw knowledge.
Im trying to send some data (analog inputs) from labview to my Siemens S7 PLC using a Comsoft profiboard. I have got
the communication to work using the example VI i got from Comsoft. I have a configuration with 128 byte
    input and 128 byte output.
My problem is how to do with my data so i can spread it over the bytes? ex the 1st data input over the first bytes and so on...
when i tried i got it to send the same data to all 128 bytes. Do i have to use an array? or somethin else, im sure it somthing
basic i have must do so please help me.
Added a  attachment over the example i have made changes on.

  • Profibus data type converting to floating point

    Hi,
Is there an efficient way to convert  the incoming data to the floating point in the NI cRIO Profibus system?
    1) The system is : NI cRIO 9068 Controller with Comsoft profibus slave module. The lavview we are using is 2013.
    2) We are using profibus slave example and are able to see a array of unsigned 8 bit data. Please see the Output data shown in the attachement.
    3) On the other side of profibus system, thrid party profibus master are converting floating points and tranmit the converted data to NI profibus slave.
    Attachments:
    Screenshoot.png ‏7 KB

If it's just a matter of converting data types once you have the data in LabVIEW, you can always manually scale and convert the data using the arithmetic functions and the "To Double Precision Float" or "To Single Precision Float" functions. You just have to know what floating point value the unsigned byte integer corresponds to. Is that what you're asking?
If you're asking for a way to this inherently with the Profibus functions, I'm afraid I can't be of much help...

  • Install software on ni-9024

    Hello all,
I am new to working with LabVIEW, and I am currently attempting to install software onto a Compact RIO NI-9024 under LabVIEW 8.6.0 on Windows 7 x64.  I have installed LV, the Real-Time module, and the cRIO device drivers DVD (to the best of my knowlege, at least); however, when I attempt to install software to the cRIO in MAX, I get an error that LabVIEW RT is not installed.  I've gone back and made sure that the Real-Time module is installed and also installed the cRIO device drivers from the LV 8.6.0 DVD set (which, I don't have immediate access to, since they are the University's copy).  I am able to access the controller, and I have been able to successfully format the controller's disk in an attempt to get matching versions of software installed.
Am I missing something obvious, or is this a glitch in Windows 7 that I will end up waiting on the IT department to get LV2009 so that I can continue?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Here is what MAX is showing for my currently installed software on the laptop I'm trying this from:

I have not successfully gotten software installed on the controller (I've only managed to format it and set the IP address), thus my problem.  When I attempt to install the software to the controller, I get the error after selecting the software I want installed (the default NI recommended software sets are greyed out, so I went the custom route) and hit the next button to install it to the controller.  It brings up a dependencies dialog with all the versions of the software I selected and claim they all require LabVIEW RT (8.5 or 8.6, depending on the particular module).
I had to manually install labview and the modules to the computer by installing from the individual distribution folders on the DVDs.  I used the main labview DVD first, then the module DVDs, then the NI Device Driver DVD that came with the cRIO.
The interesting thing about Windows 7 is that the internal version numbers from Microsoft actually number it right around Vista SP2, instead of an entire new kernel line, yet hardly anything that was Vista compatible works right natively in 7.

  • Shared Variables, Scan Engine & Multiple Targets

I am seeking some general advice about the structure of my LabVIEW project.
The project consists of a laptop with LabVIEW, and a joystick connected, and a CompactRIO connected via ethernet. I had been running the cRIO in FPGA Interface mode, however a change in some things caused the project to have to be shifted to scan mode.
As of now, the code on the laptop updates shared variables on the cRIO, and reads from shared variables on the cRIO for monitoring. I want the shared variables hosted on the cRIO because it will also need to operate without the laptop connected. Before switching the cRIO to scan mode, I found that I had to first run the laptop code, and then run the cRIO code, or the shared variables would not communicate properly. Now that I have switched to scan mode, I have to run the cRIO code first, and even then the shared vars do not communicate properly for more than a few seconds, and are much laggier.
My ideal project solution is a system that can run with or
without the laptop connected, and obviously not having all these shared
variable issues. I would like to autostart the code on the cRIO, and
have the user run the laptop code if necessary, but in the past this did
not seem to work with the shared variables.
I am really confused about why this is happening. Hopefully I have explained my problem well enough. I don't really want to post the entire project on here, but I can email it to people if they are willing to take a look at it. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I am running LabVIEW 2010 SP1 with the Real-time, FPGA, DSC, and Robotics modules. I have the Feb '11 driver set and NI-RIO 3.6.0 installed and all completed updated on my RT cRIO.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I do this type of stuff all the time...
Move all your NSV libraries to the cRIO.  From the project you must deploy to the cRIO and from then on they are persistant until you reformat.
From your windows HMI app, you can place static NSV tags on the block diagram or use the dynamic SV API to R/W.  Also you can bind HMI controls and
indicators directly to cRIO NSV's (This is what I do)  Also I create a 'mirror' library in the PC HMI that is bound to the cRIO library.  This library has DSC Citadel
data logging enable and will automatically save historical traces of all my important data - very nice.  PC hosted libraries can be set to autodeploy in the app build.
also the project has a autodeploy option for the Development Environment which I normally turn off.  If you have PC to cRIO binding setup then you need to be cautious
about any sort of autodeployment since it will potentially force the cRIO app to stop when you deploy.  To get around this, you can use PSP binding (IP address rather than project
process name) and use the DSC deploy library vi's in your HMI app.  Once you are using the scan engine you can use the DSM (Distributed System Manager) app to view, proble and
chart all of you IOV and NSV's on your network.

  • Profibus Communication

    Hello,
I have recieved equipment that is needed for communication between two PC's via Profibus using Labview 8.0 from COMSOFT.
I would like to ask a small help. I have installed DF PROFI II PCI Win/2000/XP/DP/DP1 driver,
OPC server PROFIBUS DP/DP1 WinNT/2000/XP labVIEW VISA Driver on one system and
labVIEW VISA Driver on another system.
i have added the DF PROFI II PCI boards to the PC's and connected them with PROFIBUS cabel.
Now i would to ask you wheather my installation on PC's are correct or not and how to configure one PC as master and another as slave.
Please do reply me. I will be grateful to your help and suggestions.
    Regards,
    Jagadish.

    Hello!
I have never worked with Profibus before but I did some searches about the product you are using and on the manufacturers website I found the following:
    http://www.comsoft.de/html/icpe/profibus/addons/visa.htm
According to this page it exists a ‘Getting Started Manual' that might answer your questions, since the driver itself supports both slave and master mode.

  • Multiple EtherCAT Masters

    Hi all,
I'm currently using a cRIO-9074 to control my system. Now, we have a requirement to integrate our system with some automation, controlled by a Beckhoff controller. The proposed and agreed communication method between these two devices is via EtherCAT. However, I just realized that cRIO-9074 cannot be configured as EtherCAT slave. So now, the question is can I configure the cRIO to accept from multiple masters (cRIO and Beckhoff controller both act as EtherCAT masters)? If this is possible, may I know how?
    Thank you.
    Shazlan

Some are slow changing (status, alarms, etc.) and some are fast (high priority commands, feedbacks). I've read that Beckhoff has this Ethercat bridge that allow multiple masters but we are not sure whether it can be integrated with NI's or not. Currently, we have opted for OPC (for slow changing) & DIO (for fast changing).
To start with, is what I wanted to do even possible using EtherCAT technology?

  • PLC SIMATIC s7-300 with adaptater MPI-USB under Labview

    Hello everybody
I'm trying to connect a SIEMENS
SIMATIC S7-300 directly to my PC ( without using a profibus card ) , so
I'd like to know if some one think it's possible to use a MPI-USB
adapter for that knowing that I use Labview to program my S7-300.
    Thanks ! .

Deltalogic provides several low-cost S7 adapters (MPI-Adapter, MPI-Adapter-USB, HMI-Adapter,...) and appropriate LabVIEW drivers. If you can't understand German you should send them an email.
Here is the email-address for sales related questions: [email protected]
If you are looking for a high-performance solution you should have a look at the Profibus boards from Comsoft. Comsoft provides a native LabVIEW driver for their boards that runs on Windows and LabVIEW Real-Time systems.
