Cropping Still Very bad in iPhoto 08

I am spending much, mcuh more time cropping my 200-300 photos per event that was a breeze to crop in iPhoto '06.
Hoping the Apple Gods will read these posts so iPhoto can go back to being the very, very best.
I want my iPhoto '06 cropping back. Please!

If you want to complain to Apple - use the iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback - Apple can change things - we users can ONLY assist you in using what Apple provides - and for now the iPhoto crop tool is what Apple provides

PS IMHO your work flow seems far more difficult than simply moving the constraint menu for the few photos where it makes any difference at all. - You really are exporting each photo to be cropped, starting preview, cropping, saving reimporting, deleting the original photo in iPhoto and emptying the iPhoto trash to save a simple move of the constraint bar once in a while? We have a different view of simplifying the workflow

Perhaps you are correct but this is not made clear in the update window of this App Store.

How old is your Mac? If it's very recent you need to update via the App Store
If you purchased at the App Store you need to update via the App Store
Otherwise you update via Softare Update
If you have moved iPhoto from the default location (i.e. into a Folder) then the updater won't find it. Move it back.
If you have renamed iPhoto, the updater won't find it. Change it back.

You may need to reset your network settings, making sure the network you're accessing is stable: tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If your iPhone still can't connect to App Store, tap Settings > iTunes & App Store > tap the Apple ID and sign out > later, sign in with your Apple ID.

Very bad customer service!

I am a photographer and in June 2013 I decided to join the newly launched Creative Cloud single application subscription program for Photoshop CC.
At the same time I purchased a Lightroom standard license (Lightroom was not available on the Creative Cloud at that time).
The monthly price for Photoshop CC with a one year commitment was 24,59 Eur for Europe (I live in Czech Republic). I didn’t quite understand how that translates from the 19,99 USD of the US subscription, but fair enough Adobe is not a charity and they have the right to decide to charge what they want for their products. Plus the subscription prices were clearly showed on their website, so I decided to join anyway.
Honestly I was very happy both with Photoshop and Lightroom and I think they are two fantastic pieces of software so I didn’t mind the price I paid for them.
Then a few months after I get a call from my bank saying that my card has been blocked because it might have been compromised following some online payments I made. And after a little research I find out that (citing the Adobe website) “Very recently, Adobe’s security team discovered sophisticated attacks on our network, involving the illegal access of customer information as well as source code for numerous Adobe products. We believe these attacks may be related.
Our investigation currently indicates that the attackers accessed Adobe customer IDs and encrypted passwords on our systems. We also believe the attackers removed from our systems certain information relating to 2.9 million Adobe customers, including customer names, encrypted credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, and other information relating to customer orders.
Great, now I am for two weeks without card while my bank gets me a new one (they are not that fast in Czech Republic).
Fortunately I also read online that (citing the Adobe website) ”Adobe is also offering customers, whose credit or debit card information was involved, the option of enrolling in a one-year complimentary credit monitoring membership where available.”.
Honestly I misunderstood that as a one year complimentary Creative Cloud membership and I thought that was very nice of Adobe, they didn’t have to do it, and to me it showed an effort to say “we are sorry” and to try to retain their customers’ trust.
Some time passes and I am obviously still getting charged monthly for my subscription.
So I contact Adobe through the online chat…..turns out that I am not eligible for the one year complimentary subscription (none of the agents actually explained to me that I had misunderstood the offer) but after a bit of complaining and waiting online I get offered a one month complimentary subscription!?!?!.
You can make up your own mind on how to interpret that but to me that meant that Adobe recognized their responsibility but tried everything possible to get rid of me with the minimum possible.
The guy on the chat however said that if I am not satisfied I can ask him to escalate.
I do so and he tells me that I will be contacted within 2-3 business days.
A week after I have not been contacted yet, so I call the support again and I am told that they are very sorry for not getting back to me and I will be (again) contacted within 2-3 business days.
TWO weeks after that chat I finally get a mail from Adobe, which is now offering me 2 months complimentary subscription.
I realize I better take what they give me so I reluctantly accept.
Not even a week after that, I realized that Adobe launched a new Photoshop Photography program where they give the Photoshop CC license + Lightroom 5 for 9.99 USD or 12.29 Eur with a yearly commitment. This is half what I pay now, not even considering the one off Lightroom 5 license that I already paid (129.15 Eur). The special offer expires on the 2nd December (less than a week from now at the time of writing this).
The good news is that existing CC subscribers can ask to transfer to this program for free.
So I contact the Adobe support again and they happily confirm that I can switch to the new program.
BUT I would lose the 2 free months as they cannot be transferred to the new program because it is already discounted.
I spend a good deal of effort explaining that the 2 free months are not a discount but are a compensation for me being without card for 2 weeks so I should be able to retain them, but the support person on the other side of the chat just politely dismisses every argument.
I understand that Adobe did not have to allow existing subscriptions to transfer to the new offer for free, I purchased a service and then a few months after the price went down, fair enough this happens.
If the price went up on the other end I would have still kept my original price.
However what infuriates me is that since any existing subscriber can join the cheaper offer, Adobe has actually penalized me in front of all the other customers and the reason why they have penalized me is that my data have been compromised on their servers.
You draw your own conclusions but to me this is very bad customer service.

AppleWorks 6.2.9 on OSX 10.4.6 imbedded images print VERY badly

Ever since my upgrade from an older version (don't remember which) of AppleWorks on OSX 10.2.x - in that arrangement all was well, now with AW 6.2.9 and OSX 10.4.6 every image I import by any means into an AW document of any type zooms on the screen just fine, very detailed, but prints VERY badly.
"Very badly" can be defined as, any text which is part of the image is blocky and becomes almost unreadable; all elements of the image blur at every edge - basically, look at a picture through an unfocused lens and you'll get the idea.
Any other application prints crystal clear using the same image files that AW messes up. I used to use AW to make my business letterhead, business cards, logos, media labels, etc. Now I'm doing all that by coding directly in PostScript because AW won't print nice copy.
I've been trying to find any settings in AW prefs regarding aliasing, smoothing, dithering, you name it, and nothing I've tried makes any difference.
Any ideas where to go to tell AW to play nice with the printer like it's ancestors used to?
Again, EVERY other application prints perfectly, so the printer, driver, cabling, etc cannot be the issue. Only when (and everytime) AW gets involved does printing get munged.

I'm thinking it would have been nice of Apple to let us know that they were going to change something as wide-ranging as how images are imported into AW documents. As was mentioned by Yvan, the 72dpi limit was apparently introduced with AW6. Thanks for the clarification, also. I suspected that the OS (10.4.6 for me) and drivers were clean; since every other app I have prints perfectly. The very same files used to import into AW(older) and print fine just as they were on the older system.
Peggy, yes, most of the images in question were .tiff and .jpg formats, usually from a scan or a conversion from a .ps or .eps into a .jpg or .tiff.
Not being a graphic or visual guy (audio yes, but not graphics...), I had no idea what most of the plethora of image types offered by the "save as..." dialog were about, and had no time to try them all one by one. PICT format is fairly deep into the list, so it would've taken me a while to explore the possibilities that far.
But thank you Peggy, using Preview to convert to PICT format lets me import the images I need and prints them acceptably. I still think raw Postscript is a bit cleaner yet, but for most of my needs the conversion to PICT is so far solving the problem. And if anyone wonders, yes I really do code stuff by hand directly in Postscript. And Perl, and C, and Prolog, and.... So good of OSX to include my favorite editor, emacs! (Old Unix admins never die - we just spawn child processes...or fork and exec - take your pick!
Hope, interesting that your Intel-based machine had such a problem from the start. Even more interesting that a reload fixed it. Curious what may have been/not been installed in the original factory load.... Glad I'm still on PowerPC architecture - time-tested base of reliability there.
I did look at the tip from Sharon Joiner (linked by Yvan), but compared to Peggy's suggestion, Sharon's tip seems a bit more involved than it needs to be - at least for my needs.

Very bad graphics with scrolling (MacBook)

Firefox 3.6 and 4.0 beta having graphic problems by scrolling up and down.
Images and text stutters very bad. I use Chrome now because it's damn annoying. Safari, Opera and Chrome works fine..
I tried:
- Reinstall Firefox
- Trying beta 4
- Reinstall OSX
Nothing of this helped.
Either one of my friends has this problem on his MacBook Pro.

Help needed very BAD, how to manage layout which is going to 2 pages

Need your help very bad. I am very new to reports.
I have a layout which goes to the second page. First page is a form layout (One record). I drew the form layout and placed all the fields in the form and works fine. But my problem is when I have 3 fields which are on the second page, because it doesnot fit in the first page. When I run it, the form (first page) get printed for all the records and the second page get printed only in the last at the end after printing all the records. How do I ask it to print it simultaneously. First page then the second page and so on. I set the PAGE BREAK AFTER to YES and still does not work.
Please guys need your help.

20Mb JPG file - VERY grainy in iPhoto book

I recently made an 8 1/2 x 11 hardcover photo book in iPhoto, using the files given to me by my wedding photographer. When the book arrived, most of the prints were excellent. However, three (out of 90) were quite grainy. It looked as if they had been fed into Photoshop 3 and converted to 256 colors using a smart dither. Not grainy, so much as a very, very noticeable 256-color-seeming wandering dither. I went back to the original files I used to submit the album, and I noticed that, for whatever reason, the three "grainy" photos were all about 25Mb jpg files. The other 87 pictures, which were extremely clear, were all jpg files under 10Mb. I also noticed that when the album was sent to Apple upon creation, only about 86Mb was uploaded even though the pictures were all about 6-8 Mb apiece (other than The Big Three). So it would seem that when the book is being assembled, iPhoto is creating temporary down-sampled versions of the pictures on each page for upload. If you've got a JPG file that's too big, it would seem that it makes a very bad down-sampled image, which is then reflected on the printed page.
This first wedding book was for my mom. I've already ordered a second book for my wife's grandmother (I KNEW I should have waited for my mom's book to arrive first!). I'll try tinkering with the three 25Mb JPG files to get them down to 8Mb or so, and then put them in the book.
The upshot of the story is -- keep your JPG files well under 20Mb if you're going to include them in iPhoto print books!
BTW this was in iPhoto 2009.

I didn't realize previewing a photo book was an option -- thanks for the suggestion! It's not at all obvious (in my opinion) that the PDF you see in the print preview is the same as what is forwarded to the book-printing subcontractor. It would be nice if Apple could add a "preview book" button in the Buy Book dialog.
Anyhow, I can see the extreme graininess in the preview as well, so I can see what I can do in Photoshop, maybe with gaussian blur, so that it will look better when we make our next copy of the book.

Have a very bad experience at MCC SIAM DISCOVERY in Bangkok , Thailand

About six months ago my iPad have some problem about Wi-Fi, a very bad signal and hard to connect. I already buy an AppleCare Protection Plan for iPad online, so it was still have warranty. When it was my turn they check my iPad about 5 sec and said that my iPad are out of warranty because it has too much scratch. They also said that if I want to buy AppleCare Protection Plan, I must buy it there. So my problem was unfix, it's ok because my iPad work with Wi-Fi sometime. Until yesterday 2 NOV 2013, my iPad have another problem it was hold in headphone mode all the time. I went to that place again (MCC SIAM DISCOVERY) so I found this “Due to computer's queue overload, our computer service will resume again on Nov 18th, 2013. You can make a Genius Bar appointment to have the device looked at. If the device is still under warranty and they identify a problem, then Apple makes the final decision as to a replacement. If the device is out of warranty and they identify a problem, you would be offered the opportunity to purchase an out of warranty replacement at a discounted price.

No clue why the final processes have suddenly started to take so long. Two things I'd try: a) capture from an older tape to see if some problem with the new tape is at fault. And b) check the health of your RAM and the hard drive.
The red frame sounds a bit like a glitch we used to have in OnLocation (actually in its predecessor HDV Rack) which was caused by a partial GOP. But that was a product of HDV Rack recording from the live video stream. It turned out that HDV cameras intentionally interrupt the data stream for an instant upon starting to record--specifically to avoid recording a partial GOP to tape. So my gut says that the tape has partial GOPs at the points where you stopped/started recording.

And the other night while i was trying to sync my phone, it was working until "Error message (-50)" started coming up every time i tried to sync or update my phone's software through itunes on my computer. eventually, itunes quit and i unplugged my phone and updated it wirelessly. i have no idea why any of this is happenings. Itunes is still acting weird for me too.

Hello, I have three Macs. Both my 2008 Mac Pro Laptop and 2010 3.2 Quad Core Xeon Tower have iLife. I believe both have it preinstalled. My third Mac does not have it preinstalled, and I cannot find the restore disks to make sure. I would like to put iphoto on it, and I don't have a problem purchasing it again, but what I want to do do is run the older 9.4.3 version of iphoto. I don't want to upgrade my system to 10.9 because im running an older version of Quickbooks and Quicken on it. 10.7.5 is fine for now.
Is it still possible to purchase iPhoto 9.1 so that I can upgrade it to 9.4.3. (I downloaded the upgrade, but naturally it won't work yet) The third Mac is a 2.66 dual core intel xeon. The app store says 9.1 is no longer available.. only 9.5 which I cannot run on 10.7.5
Any advice would be appreciated, and I'll continue to search for the elusive system disks.

The iLife 11 disk installs iPhoto 9.0. From there you can update to 9.1 with this updater: iPhoto 9.1
