Cross fact analysis

Could someone please explain or point me to some resource where i can know about cross fact analysis with conformed and non conformed diemnsions.

Great, happy to help. While you're over there have  look at this as well - goes together with the other: https://greatobi.wordpress.com/2013/09/10/the-single-most-important-thing-to-know-about-the-obi-rpd/

  • Cross-systems analysis and max. rules for a risk

    Hi all,
Customer environnement: GRC AC RAR 5.2 linked to 3 R3 4.6C environments (FB0, FB1 and FB2) with different purposes. Users and roles can exist in the 3 systems so we need to run cross systems analysis.
It turns out that the cross-systems analysis works well only if you declares the functions on only 2 environments (FB0 and FB2 or FB0 and FB1).
If we declare the functions on 3 environments (FB0, FB1 and FB2) one reaches the maximum number of rules for a risk, namely 46 655.
This limit is it revised upwards in version 5.3 (if yes, how?)
Or there happens a workaround solution to run cross system analysis on multiple physical systems (the customer environment target is 6!) ?
    Regards

The limit is based on the number of character combinations are available for a risk, so if the number of characters has been increased thenteh number of rules available won't have been increased.
In AC 5.3 the number of characters for a risk ID is 4 which is the sames as AC 5.2 therefore I doubt trhat the limit has been lifted of the code changed to accomodate mor rules per risk.
The only way around the issue is to create smaller risks instead of looking in systems 1, 2 & 3 look in 1 & 2, and 2 & 3 and 1 & 3.  Not ideal but at least you will get some results.
Sounds likje an enhancement request needs to be raised to me.

  • NQSError 14020 When Running Cross-Fact Query

I keep getting the following error when trying to run a cross-fact query in OBIEE Answers:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 14020] None of the fact tables are compatible with the query request D3.X. (HY000)
I set up a whole new RPD with only 4 tables, and made sure all the content levels were set up correctly, but I'm still getting the error. I have the following setup:
    Physical
I have 2 fact tables and three dimensions
    F1 <- D1, D2
    F2 <- D2, D3
    BMM
I have one fact tables and three dimension tables:
    F <- D1, D2, D3
I created a dimension higherarchy for each dimension table and kept the two default logical levels --Total and Detail.
Each dimension table has a single LTS set to the "Detail" level.
The fact table has two LTS, and the levels are set up as follows:
    F1: D1=Detail, D2=Detail, D3=Total
    F2: D1=Total, D2=Detal, D3=Detail
    Answers
I'm trying to run the following request in OBIEE Answers: D1.x, D2.x, D3.x
Could anyone could point me in the right direction?
    - Tim

    Hi Tim,
In your query, do you just have the dimensions? How about having measure in that report and checking if you still have the same error.
I see your LTS settings fine (as you have merged the individual facts to one in BMM). Generally, query across dimensions have to go through the fact to resolve the relations and so in here, it has to go through different facts though ;) . Could you post your query so that we can have a look?
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • Cross dimensional analysis

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this is possible or not so bear with me.
We've got quite a complex cube used for sales reporting and the users want to be able to extract some additional data.
To simplify it down, assume we have a number of products sold through a number of channels and sold by a number of different companies.
For the set of companies that a product can be sold through, this is dependent on the relationship between product and channel.
    For example
    Product 100 + Channel A = Company Z
    Product 100 + Channel B = Company X
    Product 200 + Channel C = Company Z
    and so on.
The difficulty is that there is no pattern to say that every product 100 or everything in Channel A is sold through Company Z.
I wondered if Alias Combination would work but that I'm not sure that is the correct way of doing things.
I next looked at whether I could set up a Company dimension and use the cross dimension operator (->) within a member formula to calculate the values. This didn't seem to work very well.
Is there some other way of doing this that I'm not aware of or is it even possible?

    Hi GlennS,
I can see that your suggestion should work in the situation where a product or channel both have a unique mapping to a company ie. Product 100 maps to company Z no matter which channels its sold through and everything sold through Channel B goes to Company X no matter which products.
The mapping to company in my example is at the combined relationship between Product and Channel. So for Product 100, if sold through Channel A then that could be Company Z, however if sold through Channel B then that might be Company X.
For Product 200 it might be that sales through Channel A go to Company Y, while sales through Channel B go to company Z.
In your example I would have to mark Product 100 as being either Company X or Z, when it reality it could be sold through either company depending on which channel its sold through.
Don't ask me why our sales structures are so complicated!?!
I guess if I think to how I would do something like this in excel, for each data value I would probably concatenate the product and channel together to get a unique reference. I could then test this reference using a lookup table of some sort to determine which company it relates to.
    Does that make sense?
It's something that feels possible in Essbase but perhaps its a bit too complex to try and implement fully...

  • MCI8 for cross plant analysis

    Dear PM Expert,
The PMIS Cost analysis (MCI8) can be displayed based on characteristics Order type.
At the moment we are using same Order type PM01 across multiple geography (multiple plants). We want to be able to analyze or viewing each plant cost in MCI8. There is no plant in MCI8, how to do this? We are considering to use different order type for each plant. Is there a better solution?
    Regards.

Guys....Fiaz, no one here is obligated to help you. And it could very well be that either no one has an answer for you or doesn't have the time to research your issue. But saying, "I am disappointed... no one even bother [sic] to help..." will not help you as trying to impose guilt (because we aren't helping you) is almost never a motivation that's going to work.
Here is what you need to do. I did not check the syntax, so you will have to do that. But to start, your requirement is not that easy, if you want to do it right. I have thought about your issue because it intrigued me and I have the solution. Just to let you know, it took some time to think this through and you will have to complete the thought process yourself, but I have worked out the code for one of your BINS that you will have to create.
Let's start with the "A" category. The people in this category will be those who have loan type A, but no other loan types.
    table.customer_name||table.loan_type = table.customer_name||'A'
...will get those customers who have loan type A... The reason I concatenated customer name with loan type is to create a unique record for each customer and his/her loan type. You can't just count customers and you can't just count loan types. Hopefully, you get this.
    table.customer_name||table.loan_type = table.customer_name||'B'
...will get those customers who have loan type B...
    table.customer_name||table.loan_type = table.customer_name||'C'
...will get those customers who have loan type C...
    SUM(CASE WHEN (table.customer_name||table.loan_type = table.customer_name||'B' OR table.customer_name||table.loan_type = table.customer_name||'C') THEN 1 ELSE 0 END)
...will tell you whether the customer has either a loan type B or C if the CASE statement above is greater than 0. If the sum is 0, then the customer has no loan type B or loan type C.
Let's add the conditions above together:
    CASE WHEN table.customer_name||table.loan_type = table.customer_name||'A' AND SUM(CASE WHEN (table.customer_name||table.loan_type = table.customer_name||'B' OR table.customer_name||table.loan_type = table.customer_name||'C') THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) = 0 THEN 'A' END
will tell you customers who have loan type A, but do not have any loan types of the B or C category and will be grouped in the BIN called 'A'
Now modify the above logic for those customers who have only B, but not A or C; for those customers who have only C, but not A or B; for customers who have A or B, but not C, etc...
This should get you started on what you need for your report.

  • Cross tab analysis

Anybody knows how to do crosstabs in numbers?
    thanks

    Hi fercesar,
When you say tabs, do you mean the sheet tabs across the top of a document? Sheet 1, Sheet 2 and so on.
Each Sheet (canvas) can contain several objects such as Tables, Charts (graphs), Text Boxes, Shapes (graphic objects).
When you say crosstab, do you mean linking tables on different sheets? Linking a graph on one Sheet with a Table on another Sheet? This is possible. Please reply with more information on what you want to do.

  • Best OLTP Reporting Tool

    Hi Gurus,
My company asked me to build a reporting framework to support their needs on OLTP, i am trying to do some research on which tool is the best tool to do reporting on OLTP..
Need help to find out a best reporting tool to make reports on OLTP data base
Right now we are using OBIEE for our OLAP reporting and we are open to implement any tools, need inputs and comparisons between all the available tools and pros and cons also.
    Appreciate all your inputs/suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Seshu.

    1) I guess you tried to pull thousands or report's rows on screen. Firstly OBIEE does pagination perfectly. Secondly human being cannot handle more than 30-50 lines physically. It is simple psychology. As soon as you've jumped on other couple pages you have no idea what was on the first pages. I've never seen such an idiot who would need report even with few hundred rows. Such reports are example of bad practice.I agree with that but you missed my point. Enterprises are large "beats" and as such they have many departments where they use different tools. In an ideal world you will have one and only one DWH with one an only one reporting tool on top. The thruth is that this never ever happens in reality. So in many cases users are asked to provide larde data extracts to use as sources for other reporting systems or external entities. OBIEE can not handle these data extracts properly as it not designed to work as an "extraction tool". This is what you missed. BO can handle them very well as it was designed as an extration tool in mind.
    2) Here you are right if it is all about dimensional model. However here is the difference between OLTP and data warehouse. In data warehouse users should be educated to know conceptual and logical models. BTW you are getting requirements from them and you say they don't know which dims can be pulled with facts and which ones cannot? Wow )) Also OBIEE does allow to pull such dims ( not connected to facts ) using very simple OBIEE modeling technique (level-based measures). That makes OBIEE reporting/analytics very flexible. You are only thinking dimensional. That's very good for an OBIEE developer. But the world is more than just dimensional. You can't answer all reporting requirements with a dimensional model I am afraid. So keep this in mind. A DWH is not the solution to all report requirements just like saying "a truck is the best vehicle in the world because it's big and can transport big loads". BTW have you tried to implement cross-fact analysis in OBIEE? Do you know that you need to set the content level for each non-confirmed dimension in each measure individually or OBIEE will bring back the measure as "NULL"? It's non-sense really, it's too tricky and too flaky.
    3) OBIEE has GUI object called PROMPT. There you have full power to force users to apply filters. And you can easily pre-defined your prompt's filter values.Again you missed a key word on my statement: "adhoc users". Prompts are fine but don't exist unless the OBIEE developer creates them in advance, typically in a dashboard. I am talking about ad-hoc here so you know that's Answers. Try to restrict Answers users and force them to put a filter on a column and you will know what I mean. BO can do this in the metadata very easily. OBIEE can't. Prompts are fine (*) but they need to be created in advance by the report developer. (*) Actually they are not that fine, you can't even force them OOTB to use a prompt or not run a dashboard without any values. Sure there are work arounds, but such a basic feature should be part of the product!
    4) OBIEE has different concepts of dims hierarchies and visual presentations. Here you are mixing them together. Indeed OBIEE 10g has such a restriction on GUI to have maximum two embedded levels. But it is only visual presentation. In business model you can have N levels of hierarchy and multiple hierarchies in dim . My goodness !!!Do you really think that ORACLE does not follow dimensional modeling ABCs? BTW please check Gartner's magic quadrants. ............BTW did you see OBIEE 11g demo ??????Yes it's only visual presentation, but that's one of the most important things! It's a stupid restriction. If you can have N levels on the BMM why shouldn't you have the ability to prent the data in more levels. Yes, I have seen the magic quadrant and Microsoft is on top of OBIEE (see http://www.gartner.com/technology/media-products/reprints/microsoft/vol2/article15/article15.html). Yes I have seen OBIEE 11g and have running on one of our Dev boxes. It's one of the most buggy releases I have seen in years. Only last week the client tools were released for Windows. How can you have proper ecosystem without proper client tools? No Solaris or HPUX release so it's a partial release. No support for other J2EE web app servers. From our point of view OBIEE 11g is a beta release. We are seating and waiting for Oracle to clean it this mess and get the product stable. And if you think Oracle Support will help read this: http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/news/2240031826/Has-the-phrase-Oracle-Support-become-an-oxymoron
    5) Inheritance...Hm, maybe it is simple dimensional modeling concept of supertype/subtype described in any BI/DW books? I am not arguing. maybe BO does it with one click. yeah, convenient enough, but no critical.Consider this problem. You have a large DWH that a large organisation wants to share with different departments which they would then extend adding they own data sources and customise to their own needs. How would you handle changes in the "core" model that need to feed to the different departments metadata stores? RPD merging and MUDE is a mess to be honest, it barely works and it's too prone to human error. Once you worked in a very large project with many OBIEE developers working in different parallel projects you will realise that inheritance is the only sensible solution. I wish Oracle would see this as well. If the metadata was in a database it would have been so much easier...
    6) Again just lack of knowledge of dimensional modeling in OBIEE. The one support ALL types of models: snowflakes (3NF) and star. Only what OBIEE requires you cannot have standalone logical table without any relations to at least one another table. Heh...I cannot recall such an example even from Bill Inmon. Regarding 3 layers. This gives you tremendous advantage over BO )) Why? It is long story))You can support all models in dimensional, but should you be forced to use it? 3 layers is not advantage. It's an interesting aproach to solve how you need to model things in OBIEE. You have become too used to it and now think it's the best in the world. It's not, in a relational reporting solution 2 layers are more than enough (physical with all your joins and presentation with all your business names and hierarchies).
    8) You I understood you correctly ))))))) None of BI tools today can beat OBIEE on number of supported data sources. I'm just wondering. When you add new column in dim/fact table you DO NOT change your metadata????? My assumption is that BO does always "select * from <table name>"? Yes, then you don't have to change your metadata. The what kind of query BO generates against database??? select d1.*,f1* from dim d1, fact f1...????OK consider this requirement. You work for a top US bank. You have invested $5m in the state-of-the-art DWH with OBIEE that covers every requirement you may even need. The US FED comes in and tells you that it wants one of your excellent reports but filtered for a number of companies. They give the user a spreadsheet with 20k companies that you need to filter you report on. Can any user in OBIEE perform the filtering without any changes in OBIEE? No. In BO you can. End of the argument.
    9) That is not true AT ALLYou saying that OBIEE can "merge" two Answers reports and get attributes from both queries in an INNER/OUTER/FULL OUTER fashion? Please show me how, I love to learn from you! (BO indeed can).
    10) You r kidding me )) have you forgotten in what time are we living??))) Do you read latest news? By 2016 most of businesses will be in social networks. Everyone wants to be power user holding mobile device in his hands!!!
AND.....OBIEE already DOES it !!!The web client works for 90% of the user population, as said in my comment for real "power users" a fat client approach works best. There browsers are still not powerful enough to handle large data sets. Going back to Gartner's 2011 Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms, which you seem to love, I quote from it: "[...] it (Oracle) has lacked innovation around mobile, in-memory, consumerization, interactive visualization and search [...]".
Please forgive me to be so sarcastic. But today the only real advantage BO over OBIEE is PRICE. I would really advise you to look at OBIEE11g. It is almost different product then OBIEE10g.I love sarcasm. Sarcasm is my middle name. But you need to open your mind a bit. OBIEE has taken control of your brain! :-) One solution does not fit all. The world of IT is too big for that...

  • Logical Systems vs Cross Systems

    Dear all,
I have two physical SAP ERP systems grouped under one logical system.
Now I want to connect to a third SAP ERP system in order to execute Cross System analysis between the systems under the logical system and the new third system.
I understand that I cannot do a Cross System RA on systems of the same logical system so that´s the reason why I need to set up the third system as a single new ERP system.
Anyhow the new ERP system should use the same rule set than the two systems of the logical system.
So I´d just like to set up the new system connector for the GRC 5.3 but I do not want to load the same rules again for the new ERP system, etc.
Is this possible? I tried to create a new logical system containing the new ERP system and regenerate the rules for the logical systems. But after that no simple RA is possible for the new ERP system.
Thanks for any advice and regards,
    Markus Richter

    Hello Markus,
Yes, you are right that you can not include the third system in the same logical group if you wish to use it for cross-system analysis. If you choose to have this as a stand alone system in RAR then first you will have to upload the rules for this stand alone system in RAR. The rules loaded for logical system will not work for this system as it is not part of the logical system group.

  • OBIEE report from multiple facts at different levels

Currently we need to develop a report with columns from 3 different facts surrounded with conformed and non conformed dimensions at different levels.
After setting the hierarchial levels and putting the facts into single logical table with different sources OBIEE is generating 2 different queries and does a full outer join.
I would like to know how we can do a left outer join instead of full outer join between the 2 queries based on a common column?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Vinod,
The scenario provided in the link above doesnt match to my issue.
We need to develop a report from multiple fact tables at different levels with conformed & non conformed dimension columns.
    I have 7 dimensions D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6 and D7 & two fact F1 and F2 tables.
F1 is tied to dimensions D1,D2,D3,D4,d5
    F2 is tied to dimensions D3,D4,D5, D6 and D7.
    In my report I have columns from D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7, F1 and F2.
So OBIEE generates 2 queries with columns from D1,D2,D3,D4,d5 & F1 measure and another query with D3,D4,D5, D6, D7 and F2 measure.
and then does a cross fact join out of box between 2 queries.
But I need to do a left outer join between the 2 queries on a common column instead of cross fact join. I would like to know how we can achive this.
    Thanks.

  • Analysis Grid Display.

    Hi Experts,
We are using analysis grid to display our plannig query in our web template.
Is there anyway I can manipulate the way the data is displayed through the grid?
In other words I want to change the size of the font and color of the data displayed in my web template through the analysis grid.
If it is possible , please let me know.
    Regards,
    Kadriks

    Hello There,
This kinda of formatting is very much possible. You can format the cells to change their colour ,font etc.As a matter of fact Analysis grid itself is based on an underlying MS Excel format.
please refere to this link to find out more and how to format etc.Click on the  word
    "Analysis grids".

  • How do I convert Spreadsheet file to Waveform for off-line analysis?

    Using v6.1
I have multiple column data in an xls file obtained from third party DDE write. Each column contains data pertaining to one process variable. Does not include timestamp, however, data sampled at specific frequency of 10hz. I wish to convert the column data to waveform and perform Spectrum and cross correlation analysis to determine source of process variations.
How do I read the spreadsheet file and produce waveforms for analysis using the built-in analysis tools?
    Thanks!

Save the XLS file as a CSV (Comma Seperated Values) file. Then read the CSV file into LabVIEW using "Read From Spreadsheet File.vi" -- make sure to set the "delimiter" input to a comma (","). Index out columns of data using the "Index Array" function, and then build a Waveform and set the dt. Attached is an example.

Up to version 4.0, Compliance Calibrator was only available for SAP systems. With the introduction of version 5.1 on SAP NetWeaver, this limitation no longer exists. In fact, Compliance Calibrator 5.2 and 5.3 now come with adapters not just for SAP but for Oracle, PeopleSoft, and JD Edwards. SAP Note 1076755 includes specifics on what versions this solution supports and how the adapters work. This allows companies that have large heterogeneous environments to directly connect Compliance Calibrator to these different purchased software platforms. Compliance Calibrator also contains a base-level rule package for these non-SAP applications.

If messages are sent from the Integration Server to the PCK, you must create a sender XI adapter in the PCK.
since are from the integration Server to the PCK, PCK is a receiver.
why must create sender xi adapter in the pck.?why, that is why?
    i can not understand!
    i think:
if it is sender xi adapter, why is it in the pck instead of  in the integration server as the integration server is a sender in fact.vice versa.
    my understanding was wrong?

the PCK is used,if you want to exchange Messages from or to XI. That means for that, you need on the sender or receiver Side a XI System. The one way is,that a XI sends the Native XML SOAP Messages via XI Adapter to the PCK.Then the message can be converted in some other formats, because the PCK has its own Adapter Engine. But there is no IDOC adapter.
The second way ist, that for example you pick up XML Files with the PCK and transfer it to an XI system in the Native XML Format. With the PCK you can't do a File-to-File Transfer.
The PCK is a standalone Application, which has its own Monitoring,Configuration and User Management.Instead of that, a decentral Adapter Engine is directly connected to an XI System and is configured centrally in the XI System
PCK is a mini version of XI. It is used by smaller business partner (who cannot afford to install a full blown version XI) to exchange XI messages with large companies (having an XI installation).
PCK has its own local Adapter engine.
