CRS-1604:CSSD voting file is offline

Hi all, when the installation of RAC,I set the vote disk like that:
vote disk :/dev/rdsk/c5t50060E800043C5E1d2s7
vote disk1:/dev/rdsk/c5t50060E800043C5E1d3s6
vote disk2:/dev/rdsk/c5t50060E800043C5E1d3s7
when the installation complete, I found some errors in alert_log file:
[cssd(864)]CRS-1604:CSSD voting file is offline: /dev/rdsk/c5t50060E800043C5E1d3s6. Details in /oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/log
/nrac1/cssd/ocssd.log.
and in the ocssd.log like this:
[ CSSD]2006-11-13 10:32:41.560 [7] >TRACE: clssnmDiskStateChange: state from 3 to 3 disk (1//dev/rdsk/c5t50060E800043C5E
1d3s6)
what is this ? and how to fix it?

You may have to delete and add a new voting device (high level steps):
1) Shutdown CRS
2) Use:crsctl delete css votedisk <vote_disk_path> -force
3) Use:crsctl add css votedisk <vote_disk+path> -force
4) Check the voting disks status using: crsctl query css votedisk

  • Voting file is offline

    Hi Gurus,
I seen many time that Oracle Enterprise manager raise alert for "Voting disk offline". But this error does not appear into cluster alert log (alert<Node-name>.log). Even, I have checked O/S log (/var/log/messages) but never found error relevent to "disk inaccesscible"/"Disk distruption".
    Please sugesst on following queries.
    1. Why does this error only appears into the Enterprise manager.
    2. If votidisk inaccesible, it means disk that contain votingdisk is suddenly become inaccessible to O/S. If yes, then why this disk error is not logging into O/S log.
    3. Am i missing any log file to check.
Following is the error message on Enterprise menager.
CRS-1006:The OCR location +DATA is inaccessible
    CRS-1604:CSSD voting file is offline
CRS-1606:The number of voting files available, 0, is less than the minimum number of voting files required, 1, resulting in CSSD termination to ensure data integrity

    Hi,
To me it seems to be EM bug. Are you using EMI or EMGC?? Check for bugs. Does the ASM alert logs gives any information regarding +DATA getting offline? Can you paste the output of
    crsctl query css votedisk
    also
    cluvfy comp vdisk -n <node1>,<node2>

  • How to access/open rpd files in offline mode from client desktop

    Hi All,
Please tell me what configuration settings I need to have on my desktop to access RPD files stored on BI server?
In our OBIEE environment, we have BI server installed on linux server, and I have installed BI admin tool on my desktop (Windows OS).
I need to know what settings I should configure in my NQSConfig.ini file on my desktop so that I can access rpd files stored on BI server...
I can access online RPD using BI server ODBC connectibity, but want to access other offline RPD files stored in repository directory on linux server where OBIEE 11g server installation is done.
    Thanks and Regards

    Saichand,
    Highly appreciate your response.
But wht I am looking for is how to access other RPD files stored in repository folder on server machine where BI server is running, from BI administration tool which is installed on my desktop
I am able to access default online repository on BI server using ODBC configuration from BI admin tool on my desktop, but want to access other rpd files (lets say sample rpd files which are installed on BI server machine) using (file->open-offline) option.
As per Jay, it seems it is not possible to access repositories other than online repository on BI server, and I will have to copy those rpd files on my desktop and then access using file->open->offline option in BI admin tool.
If you have any other way of doing this or have done this somehow , please let me know.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Best way to move Onenote files from offline file location.

We have a majority of our users now on Win 7 using Office 2010.
We have redirected folders with offline files syncing Included in this location is the OneNote files.
After starting to investigate Win 8.1 Update 1 and office 2013. We noticed the message OneNote 2013 throws up about issues with having OneNote files included in the Offline files location (The first version to offer this message). And have started to notice
issues with users OneNote files corrupting etc.
Almost certainly from the Offline files syncing and OneNote's own in built cache\syncing abilities.
We investigated excluding *.one files from offline syncing but quickly eliminated this because users then wont be able to create any further *.one files in this location.
    My two questions are-
    1) How bad could the issues with corruption of OneNote files get if they stay in their current location? We are concerned the more our users get to know how useful OneNote is the more issues we will get.
    2) Is there an easy way to move the OneNote files to another network location for multiple users with least disruption to them as possible?

To answer your questions, check below links:

To move the notebook, take one of the following actions:
From On the File menu, click Share, and then click
Copy this notebook to OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) or SharePoint.
Right-click the notebook, click Properties, and then click
    Change Location.

  • Why do we need voting Disk or Voting File

    Hi all
What is the need of Voting file or disk??? i know it maintains the node information n all. But if nodes can ping all other nodes what is the need of voting disk.
    Can anyone please explain.
    PS : I read the
    Oracle® Database
Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters
    Administration and Deployment Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.2)
But could not find how does it actually come into picture.
    Thanks in anticipation

    Lets take the case of a 2 node RAC - instance 'A' and instance 'B';
Lets assume that instances A & instance B is unable to communicate with each other. Now, this might be due the fact that the other instance is actually down oR because there is some problem with the interconnect communication between the instances.
A split-brain occurs when the instances cannot speak to each other due to interconnect communication problem and each instance happens to think that it's the only surviving instance and starts updating the database. This obviously is problematic, isn't it?
To avoid split brain, both instances are required to update the voting disk periodically.
Now consider the earlier case from the perspecive of one of the nodes:
case 1) instance B is actually down:- Here, looking from instance A's perspective; there is no communication over the interconnect with instance B and also instance B is not updating the voting disk ('coz it's down). Instance A can safely assume that instance B is down and it can go on providing the services and updating the database.
Case 2) the problem is with interconnect communication:- Here, looking from instance A's perspective; there is no communication over the interconnect with instance B. However it can see that instance B is updating the voting disk; which means instance B is not actually down. This state is true from instance B's perspective; it can see that instance A is updating the voting disk but it cannot speak to instance A over the interconnect. At this point, both instances rush and try to lock down the voting disk and whoever gets the lock ejects the other one thus avoiding split-brain syndrome.
That's the theory behind using a voting disk.
When the instances of a RAC boots up, one of the instances will be assigned the master. In the case of a split-brain the master gets the lock on the voting disk and survives. In reality the instance with the lower node number survives, even if the problem is with the interconnect network card on that node :)
    Cheers.

  • Using external redundancy DG for voting files

    Hi all,
I'm trying to convince a colleague of mine that having a single voting file/disk on an external redundancy ASM disk group is a bad idea since a logical corruption would mean a painful outage and recovery operation. There is also the possibility that during certain cluster failures there would always be only a single available cluster node since there is only a single voting disk (so no majority voting to decide on the active cluster members). I would greatly appreciate some feedback on further arguments as well as the validity of mine own using the term 'logical' corruption and the voting to decide on the active cluster members.
I appreciate your time. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Oracle recommended for OCR files and VOTE file/disks ASM redundancy is HIGH with 5 way.
I think you must create a ASM disk group for example OCRVOTE, with HIGH redundancy.
And replace vote disk to new ASM diskgroup, and and change OCR files location to new ASM diskgroup.

  • Data files are offline / tablespace offline

I am confused on the concept of data file offline.
What happened when you take data file offline?
Is data file offline because of disk damage? we see the error that data file is haning a problem, we have manually to take data file offline? how?
Why is tablespace offline but data file is still online?

What happened when you take data file offline? The offline datafile means simply that the file is not available anymore for the access. All the objects for the offline file become inaccessible for the users to access.
Is data file offline because of disk damage? we see the error that data file is haning a problem, we have manually to take data file offline? how?Yes it can happen that the data file goes offline because of any kind of damage either over the disk, or also with the file itself. For example, there may be a chance that the file is not available anymore , may be because someone has deletedthe file. So most of the times, Oracle would offline the file by itself. In any case, if the file doesn't go offline by itself than you need to take it offline yourself as the recovery for the file can't happen if its online. You would get the error messages that oracle can't acquire the exclusive access over the file.
Why is tablespace offline but data file is still online? Not sure that I did see this ever myself. Tablespace is nothing but the container for the datafile so if there is a file of it which is offline and that's the only file in the tablespace, the tablespace can't stay as online. Show us an output for the same.
The links given by Anantha are must for you to read the cocept of offlining a tablespace. Make sure you read them for sure.

  • Normal redundancy for voting files

Hey, currently I configured normal redundancy for my ocr and voting disks.
crsctl query css votedisk is showin orcl:ocr1, orcl:ocr2, orcl:ocr4 as configured disks.
All disks resides on the same storage but in two different aggegrates - two raid groups.
Does it makes sense to put one voting file on a seperat nfs share ?
Just in case, one raid group is malfunctiong. I know, in case the storage is powered off, the cluster will die.

    Hi,
I never heard about raid group is malfunctiong by itself (except when somebody makes a mess on RAID).
RAID System (storage) is designed to support failures, you can choose the RAID level as needed. Raid is a feature of STORAGE the manufacturer of the storage must ensure that it will work. If it is proven that the issue of data loss was caused by failure of storage (bug) you can sue the manufacturer.
I believe that the data (database) are on the same storage. right? If you have only two raid and one fails you will lose a part of your environment (e.g database, etc.). So NFS option is useless if it can't provide high availability.
If you have more than 2 raid group you can use the other raid group instead of NFS, is more easy NFS fail than RAID fail. (but it's your choice)

  • Copying previews to desktop when files are offline

I've just moved over from Aperture to Lightroom and am so far very happy with the transition but I've noticed it doesn't appear possible to copy previews of files onto the desktop when the main files are offline. This is something that WAS possible in Aperture.
Am I missing something or this a feature that Lightroom doesn't support?
    THANKS

Apologies for not being very clear. I work as a photographer from a number of different locations. I have my main image files stored on my home server and this is fine for when I'm working at home. But I need 24/7 access to my files for emailing low-res previews.
In Aperture, I was able to drag a preview from the library onto my desktop regardless of whether the originals were online. The size of this file was obviously a lot smaller than the original JPG but perfectly fine for emailing off as a low-res preview.
I don't seem to be able to achieve this same funcionality in Lightroom. If I try and drag an image on the desktop when my originals are offline I get presented with a 'no entry' symbol and the export function informs me that Lightroom cannot find the original file.
Hope that's a bit clearer. Thanks

  • Convert QuickTime Video Files for Offline Viewing

How can I convert QuickTime files for offline viewing?

Even with QuickTime Pro, it is possible to protect a QuickTime video file from being downloaded directly. But, if it's not specifically protected, QuickTime Pro will allow you to download many QuickTime videos.
If you come across a video that is protected, you may be able to use a utility like to record the video as it's playing on your screen and then save it as a stand-alone file.

  • Place Voting files in Quorum failgroup or Regular failgroup ?

About the concept of quorum failgroup ORACLE says:
QUORUM disks, or disks in quorum failure groups, cannot contain any database files,
the Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR), or dynamic volumes. However, QUORUM disks
can contain the voting file for Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS). Oracle ASM
uses quorum disks or disks in quorum failure groups for voting files whenever
    possible.
To sum up, i think the different between a regular failgroup and a quorum failgroup is a quorum failgroup can only contain vote files and a regular one can contains multiple kinds of files.
So i didn't see any advantage to place voting files on a quorum failgroup than on a regular one. Why Oracle introduce the concept of quorum failgroup ?
    Thx in advance.

Why Oracle introduce the concept of quorum failgroup ?
You should configure odd number of voting disks because far as voting files are concerned, a node must be able to access more than the half of the voting files at any time (simple majority). In order to be able to tolerate a failure of n voting files, one must have at least 2n+1 configured. (n= number of voting files) for the cluster.
If you lose 1/2 or more of all of your voting disks, then nodes get evicted from the cluster, or nodes kick themselves out of the cluster.
For this reason when using Oracle for the redundancy of your voting disks, Oracle recommends that customers use 3 or more voting disks.
If you are using only one (1) Storage H/W and it's fail. Whole cluster goes down including all voting disk does not matter the number configured.
The problem in a stretched cluster (RAC Extended ) configuration is that most installations only use two storage systems (one at each site), which means that the site that hosts the majority of the voting files is a potential single point of failure for the entire cluster. If the storage or the site where n+1 voting files are configured fails, the whole cluster will go down, because Oracle Clusterware will loose the majority of voting files.
To prevent a full cluster outage, Oracle will support a third voting file on an inexpensive, lowend standard NFS mounted device somewhere in the network. Oracle recommends putting the NFS voting file on a dedicated server, which belongs to a production environment.
So, you will create a file on NFS "cooked file" (as disk) and present to ASM. From this point ASM does not know which ASMDISK is on Network (wan) and it's a "cooked file".
Then you must mark that ASMDISK as QUORUM, because Oracle will use that ASMDISK only to store VOTEDISK. This will prevent store data (such as database files) on it causing perfomance problem or dataloss.

I got this problem and when i save the premiere project from speedgrade photoshop files shows offline also in premiere pro. I have to link the medias back to make premiere see them. Files remained of course in the same directory

  • Media files suddenly offline - Pro CS3

I was hoping someone would be able to help my figure out what went wrong and how to fix it.
    Here's the problem:
Yesterday when I saved my project, everything was fine. This evening when I loaded the project, several, in fact most, of the video files are offline.
I have not moved or deleted anything on the harddrive.
Premiere does not ask me to locate the files upon loading the project.
In the Project window, all the clips play fine in preview and will display in the source monitor.
The videos on the Timeline do show thumbnail images of the clip.
The videos nevertheless show up as offline in the Timeline and will export only as the default offline image.
I have an automatic save of the same project in which everything is fine, but about an hour of work will be lost if I have to resort to that.
    Any ideas?
Edit: One thing I did change since I saved my project. I uninstalled divx 7 and installed an older version, 6.8, because the newer version was affecting certain programs negatively. I'm not sure if that's relevant, but in the interest of providing as much data as possible, I thought I should mention it.

Since nobody answered, I was left to my own ingenuity. I found a solution, so I thought I'd leave it for posterity.
    - Go to the Edit menu.
    - Choose 'select all'
    - Right click on the timeline, where all is selected now
    - There should be a check beside 'enable.' Click that.
    - All is now disabled.
    - Right click again. And choose enable again.
    - Now all is enabled and all the content is online again.
