Crystal Report on a big cube

Hi,
We are trying to create a Crystal report on a large cube 7 millions row in fact tables.
There are multiple dimension, some with several millions as well.
The report will use filters on Navigational Attribute of the dimensions.
I tried MDX query, it run for a while and give database error.
No more storage space available for extending an internal tablee.
This is because it's running as dialog (DIA) in SAP BW.
Is there a way to run this query as background in BW so we'll have more time and memory?
I know we can do this with Infoset and OpenSQL driver by setting Windows Environment variables,
but those are not for cubes.
Our system is SAP BW 7.01 EhP1 SP5.
Crystal Report 2008 SP2
BOE 3.1 SP2 (we'll schedule crystal reports on BOE)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Henry Le.

Hi Ingo,
Thank you for your quick response.
There are 2 requirements:
1) Summary report
2) You were right, extract lot's of data. I think BW limit to about 0.5GB for this right?
For 1) I will try to simplify the report, reduce number of rows coming back to see if it works.
For 2) we need to extract such data then load to Oracle for the business to do analytic on. We know that this is not standard SAP practice, and decided that this is only an interim solution till we have all requirements and  move the reports, analytic back to BW - BOBJ route.
The extract expected to be 6.5 millions rows with 70+ fields. 3.5GB to 5GB of data.
_ OpenHub - not fit because to my knowledge Open Hub does not support Navigational Attributes
_ We have Data Services 3.2 - I can try to join the transparent tables (the cube's fact table and dimension tables for Navigational Attributes) and load directly to Oracle.
_ We also have Data Federator 3.0 SP2 - but I heard Data Federator does not fair well with large volume.
_ We do not want to enhance DSO at this point as this is only interim solution.
Do you have any suggestion?
Thank you very much,
Henry Le

  • Performance issue - Open a Crystal Report from SAP BW

    Hi,
I have an general question on the performance of Crystal Reports: We are using Crystal Reports 2008 SP 2 in context with SAP BW 7.0. We don't have a BO XI. We use the BW as a central storage for our reports. Now we have the problem that the opening of some reports takes a long time. For expample one report needs ~13 secound an another > 5 minutes.
Where can be the problem? What happens in SAP BW when a report is called? And what can we do to make it faster?
    Thanks for your informations!

    Hi Ingo,
the value of MaxPickListSize is "c8".
Yesterday I have spent a lot of time to find the bottleneck. I have traced the SQL statements, which are performed from Crystal Reports / Integration Kit when I open a report. It might be the values for the parameters. That's our situation:
    Crystal Reports
           |
    Query (restriced on Cube 1)
           |
    MultiProvider
      - Cube 1
      - Cube 2
      - Cube 3
      - DSO 1
The slow report is based on the BW Query and in the filter restricted to the Cube 1. If I open the report, all values for the parameters are read from all the InfoProviders under the MultiProvider (Cube 1, Cube 2 Cube 3 and DSO 1). The very big DSO 1, which is not used, increases the duration extremly. This may not be the desired behavior?! Is this a bug? I would expected that only the values are loaded from Cube 1.

  • Crystal reports 2013 , SAP MDX Driver not able to connect with BW BEX Query

    Hi All,
We just installed Crystal 2013, and want to create crystal report on SAP BW CUBE/BEX Query through SAP MDX Driver.
1.When start connecting through SAP MDX Query option from new connection , SAP Systems which are in SAPLOGON are not appearing in initial screen. where as from OLAP Connection we are able to connect to SAP BEX Query.
2.Even from SAP Tool kit we are not able to connect to BEX query, we are getting ERROR MESSAGE.
and we are using SAP BI BO PLATFORM 4.1 sp01 .
Please suggest me , if I am missing any configuration settings.
    Regards,
    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,
Before you start building the report, make sure the right transports have been loaded on the SAP System. The right Transport files are the ones found inside the installation zip you download from SAP's server. They're under the "Collaterals\Add-Ons\SAP\Transports" folder.
For more info on Transports, authorizations etc, please have your BASIS admin go through this wiki:
Crystal Reports 2008 and BW - Installation and Configuration - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki
To resolve your first issue, please follow the steps from this thread:
Problems with SAPLogon.ini for SAP GUI and Crystal 2011
P.S: Crystal Reports for Enterprise 4.1 does a better job at handling BEx queries that the CR 2013 designer. It directly connects to BEx queries via the BICS connectivity driver and doesn't need the Transports to be there on the SAP System. You might want to give this flavour of CR a try too.

  • Report using GL Hierarchy directly from a cube in crystal reports

    Hi,
I am trying to build a crystal report showing GL account hierarchy ( a P n L report). When I am trying to source this field from the BW cube directly its not showing up on the report preview at all.
I built something similar with hierarchy using a Bex query which worked fine. I am curious what it is that could possibly be missing here.
Let me know if you need more information from me to explain the issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Varun

    Hi,
when you use the BW query you should have the hierarchy in Crystal Reports.
When you connect to the cube directly you should see all the hierarchies from the cube.

  • Unable to open OLAP cube in Infoview for Crystal Report

    Hello,
I am currently confused with a crystal report designed via OLAP grid on a BW query and working fine on Crystal designer module on my PC but sending an error when I tried it on INFOVIEW "unable to open OLAP CUBE".
I checked all parameters and database connexions on BO Entreprise CMC : it is OK.
I am on BO XI 3.1 SP 3 entreprise and BW 3.5 or BW 7.0 (both are in concern).
When I tried a simple report on a BW query just drop fields of the query into the report and sending it on Infoview, it is OK.
Just OLAP grid is KO. I do not understand, it is MDX language too ? Somebody can help or faced the same trouble ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to use OLAP cubes in Crystal Reports R2?

    Dear All,
I hope someone can help me with the following issue: We are trying to link Crystal Reports XI-R2 with an OLAP cube but the login keeps on failing while the same setup/connection works with Excel.
The OLAP cubes are created through SSAS 2008 and require a windows account for authentication. Because it works via Excel (through pivot table --> external data) the cubes are accessible and the username & password are correctly as well.
Through the OLAP wizard in Crystal Reports the following message is displayed: "The connection could not be established. The logon attempt failed".
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Please check the trouble shooting guide in this article: /people/reuben.cox/blog/2009/12/10/troubleshooting-olap-connectivity-in-business-objects-products
If, after performing these tasks, it still doesn't work, please reply back to this thread with more details about what you have tried and what doesn't work.

    Hi
Kindly help me out with a solution. I have created a cube in oracle 10gR2 database using Oracle Analytic Workspace Manager. I am trying to connect to this cube using Crystal report Olap datasorces. But I am only getting 4 options to connect to Hyperion Essbase, HOLOS Cube, Microsoft OLEDB, Microsoft OLAP Analysis Services 8.0 and 9.0.  I am not getting any option for connection to Oracle OLAP. How do I do that or if it does not support kindly let me know.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Troyee,
I have discussed the issue with OLAP engineer and he told me that connectivity to OLAP cube is not supported.
and please next time address OLAP questions to the following category:

    Hi,
you are using the OLAP Grid which will only have limited functionality. You can use the BW MDX Driver and then connect to a BEx query and you will have the complete functionality in CR

  • The export of a Crystal Reports to MS Word creates big files

    Hi all,
if I export a report to pdf the file size is 72 KB . But if I export to Microsoft Word (97-2003) format, the filesize amounts to 1,35 MB.
After I opened the exported document in MS Word and saved it with a new name, the size is only 176 KB.
Is this a common problem? Is it possible to force crystal reports produce a smaller document?
Why does Crystal Reports create such large files?
    (Environment: Crystal Reports 2008 SP1)
    Regards, Timo

    Hallo Don,
first Iwill tell you, if I do export the Report to MS Word, in the FileDialog, it is only possible to create a *.rtf - File.
    Do it act normal?
So due to your suggestion, i replaced an Image in the report (embedded as an OleObject) as a Graphic-JPG-Object.
The size of the exported report has reduced from 1,39 MB to 141 KB.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Huge delay in Printing Crystal Report Layout

    Good Day Experts,
I am experiencing big delays when printing a document that makes use of a Crystal Report Layout Design.
    For example,
The Sales Quote is set to automatically print when added by the user.
When clicking 'Add', SAP freezes up and only about 30 seconds later does the printer finally print the document.
During that time, the user cannot use SAP at all.
The layout does have a lot of fields and a few formulas here and there.
Logically, I am thinking that that is the reason for the delay, as SAP needs to calculate and populate those fields.
Is there any other way that I could speed up this process? Or if you know what might be causing this speed issue?
    Your assistance will be appreciated,
    Thanks

  • Error while dynamically setting logo image in Crystal Report 2008

    Hi,
We have embedded Crystal Report 2008 JRC in our web application which is an Enterprise Archive (EAR) deployed on WebSphere Application Server.
The RPT files bundulled in the archive displays a logo which is dynamicalli picked up by the RPT files from a configured location. Due to this the Report generation crashes when travesed to the sub reports/ groups within RPT. We have observed that this problem never occures if the logo is hard coded within the RPT files.
The report crashing causes another big problem, it crashes the Applciation Server too. This is major concern to us and we need a resolution to this problem.
    Thanks in advance

  • Crystal Report installation roadmap

    Hi All,
I googled and found that the the SAP data can be extracted only if SAP BW is configured. We have a different requirement
InfoSet Queries are developed, which extracts data from SAP tables
We need to customize the design of the report, therefore plan to have temporary extracted data in InfoSet query and
install and integrate Crystal Report with Infoset Queries for customizing the layout.
Are our concepts correct about crystal report? If yes, how can we integrate CR with SAP, keeping in consideration that we haven't implemented SAP BW.
In short, installation/configuration of the following scenerio
SAP Tables -> InfoSet Query -> Crystal Report -> Custom Layout with Infoset Query data -> Print
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you Ingo for your valuable response. Infact, I'm a big fan of your blogs @Business Objects.
Actually, the objective is to design reports with customized heading without using ABAP. For the purpose, InfoSet queries are created. Now I'm looking for a tool, e.g. Crystal Reports etc., to design queries output in professional way.
What do you suggest, which product should I opt for temporary purpose? We will be acquiring BOBJ in next fiscal year, which I hope will make our life easy for developing/designing new reports. But at current, which product/roadmap should be focus on?
    Thanks !

I have a CR open sales order report grouped by sales order number. Crystal report viewer outlines Sales Order #, customer name and doc total in the master line. Underneath that, it shows multi line items contain in that SO.
I am wondering, is there a way I can collapse the multi line items and only shows the master line item? We need this sometimes to present to management just to show the big picture.
Is it we can add a drill-down event to the crystal report viewer control? Not sure how to accomplish that. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
If the detail information is in the Detail section, you can set the Detail Section to Hide.  This will only show the Sales Order information and have the ability to drill down to the Details when you need them.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Not Displaying "Net Sales" key figure in Crystal Report

    Hi All,
I have made one Info cube (with Characteristics -Product, Region and Customer and Key Figure - Net Sales) from Flat File.
I want to make crystal report on this. For that i have connected this infocube in crystal Reports via OLAP Connectivity. I am getting all the characterisitc in Field Explorer and one more Field "Measure" in which two field is displayed:
    - Measures, Level 0
    - Measures, Level 0 (long)
Now i have dragged all the characterisitcs in detail section with Measure, Level 0(long). While i am viewing the preview of this, i am not getting value of that line item.
    Ex.
    Product Region Customer NetSales
    Actual one:
    AC East BigBazar 14000
    with Measure, Level 0(long):
    AC East BigBazar NetSales
    with Measure, Level 0
    AC East BigBazar [Measures].[ZNETSALES]
I am not getting 14000 i.e. Actual value.
Hope i am clear with my idea. Am i missing something?

    col1 col2 col3 col4 col5.......say you have 5 columns
    for the denominator calculation
    the value should be
    numerator /
select (select count(column) from table) - (select count(column) from table where column<>0)
    Thanks,
    Ganesh
