CS2 or CS3 Licensing Agreement

I'm being told by a colleague at work that the Adobe licensing agreement will allow you to install the same copy of software both at work, and at home. Apparently the reasoning is the individual will take their work home with them!
I've never heard of this before - can someone direct me to where the licensing agreement is defined, exactly?
Is this true? I've always understood a single copy of software could only be installed on one machine, and one machine only. Unless you paid for a site license?
Thanks so much. I'm sticking to my original understanding that it can only be installed on one machine, but I might actually learn something new here.

> Is this true?
It is indeed true and has been for as long as I can remember. The
stipulation is that you must be the primary user of both machines and
only one can be used at a time.
Many of us use this for office and laptop use. I discussed the
limitations of activation and deactivation here:

  • CS3 Licensing Agreement problem and Bad support

I purchased the CS3 Web Premium and have used to create web pages for my business. This product has stopped working 4 times! "Licensing has stopped working". #1 The first call to the support was bad, after being directed to the adobe website and given minimal instructions, the person hung up. I eventually unistalled and reinstalled it. #2 same error 2 months later, same bad support, spent over an hour on the phone without resolution. Did the install again. #3 the person was helpful and we worked through the adobe site, downloaded a fix. #4 which was 2 days later and right now CS3 is down again. I have spoken to Rose, she tried to help and emailed me info, hung-up. Sean gave me the same info and when I told him that I did it already. He hung up on me. The next person kept asking someone behind her what to do next, she passed me to a supervisor and he emailed me information. I followed that and it STILL DOES NOT WORK. I called back again and spoke to another helper, she was surprised that it did not work yet, gave me the website and hung up on me. "Licensing has stopped working" My online business needs updating and this software does not work! I have asked this to be bumped up to a manager. 3 times they said I would get a call back. Nothing yet. Is there any help out there. I plan on posting this information on every blog and website until this is fixed!!!

Welcome to Discussions Jerry - your first problem should be helped by resetting the SMU. Shut down, unplug everything from the computer, remove the power cord. Wait 15 seconds, replace the power cord, then start the computer.
Your second problem could well be faulty RAM, since most memory is sold with a lifetime guarantee, I suggest you return it to the vendor and get a new stick. You can also run Rember, let it loop dozens of times unless it immediately reports a fault, and see what it says.

  • Viewing the license agreement for CS3

How do I view the license agreement for my old adobe CS3 Master collection (education version) I want to find out if I can put it on my new laptop as well. I've had it on my desktop only up to now. Can't find it in any of the booklets and  papers that came with the software. Can't find it in the help. I can only find the "patent and legal notices." Is that it? It just seemed like a lot of unhelpful gobbledegook to me.

you're allowed up-to two concurrent installations and activations for your use only but not both at any one moment.

  • Upgrading From Cs2 With Cs3 Extended On Computer

I currently have both PS CS2 as well as CS3 Extended on my computer. When I decided to upgrade to CS3 from CS2 I went with the extended version but find I really have no use personally for the 3D tools. Strangely, there is no way to 'downgrade' from CS3 Extended to plain old garden variety CS4. However, it does appear that you can upgrade from CS2 to CS4.
If both CS2 and Cs3 Extended are on my machine and I purchase a CS4 upgrade will the software see the CS2 and allow an upgrade to CS4, or will I be 'shut out' because I have CS3 Extended on the machine? Will I have to uninstall CS3 Extended and then do the upgrade to CS4?
Has anyone done this....seems like one of the two options above should work. Thanks.
    Howard

    Hi,
Just to let people know, this problem is far from 'fixed' from an Adobe Customer Service perspective has wasted (so far) 5 hours of my time without any resolution. I upgraded to Vista 64 bit to get more memory for Lightroom and Photoshop. Has to install my Extended CS3 then the CS4 Upgrade. Of Course the CS4 upgrade wouldn't recognise the CS3 Extended install. "No problems" I thought - I'll call my friendly customer service people tomorrow during working hours (note I live in Australia so these people are in Manilla). In the mean time I tested CS4 in trial mode
Anyway called Customer Service the next morning (today) and found that CS4 would not even accept the upgrade Serial number as it had decided that it was really a CS4 Extended Version and wanted a Extended Version Serial Number. I was advised that this was a known 'feature' as licence keys are further restricted by the language of the original install. And I had inadvertently left the upgrade install at the default of English (US) whereas my previous CS3 was set to a language of English (International) and once you start the trial it defaults to the version of the installed product rather than the version of the upgrade. ...Sigh.. After lots of fun with customer support and various failed attempts we had to do a complete uninstall of CS4 and a registry clean, a Photoshop Cache delete and a clean install to get back to square one (which is entering a CS4 product key)... Because the full install takes time, the helpful Technical Support person asks me to call back when it is done and gives me a support Case Number etc.
I call back ready for the unlock and quote my Support Case Number. Being a call centre I get a new person. And 'helpfully' all the extra information was not in my case file, just the basics that I had an upgrade issue and that it was resolved (lol). So we start again. This new technical support person says that it is not an approved upgrade path from CS3 Extended to CS4 and that he needs to put me through to Customer Support to explain my options (I barely control my urge to scream!).
After a long wait I spend ages talking to Customer Support who flatly deny that there is any approved path from CS3 Extended to CS4 standard and suggest that I return the upgrade and buy and extended one. I try again and get a second customer support person! Eventually after pushing they agree to try and seek 'special approval' for a non standard upgrade. At this point - after 5 hours of installing, uninstalling and hours on the phone to Adobe I am no closer to having a working CS4 upgrade.
I have escalated to Jack Nash via his Blog to (hopefully) get help. But it is really disappointing to have an issue that was supposedly resolved back in early October 2008 still exist and such challenges tyring to get Customer Support / Technical Support to address it.
My real nightmare is the future... With Windows 7 coming next year and doubtless CS5 in a couple of years... Unless Adobe change their processed I can see a nightmare many days process involving having install the original CS3, then CS4, then the special approval (again!) then CS5 etc... Really Adobe need to join the modern world. Adobe have our serial numbers held against our customer registration Email etc. So we should not have to have older versions installed in series to do an upgrade. Just have the install do an automatic check on-line that we have the most recent version licensed to us... and the on-line code could be e4asily changed to fix problems like this, rather than the rigid activation code installed on the CD.

  • Cs2 and cs3 and cs4 on the same pc xp? could be a mess up?

    Hi
    i have some questions
    i bought cs2 some time ago , i guess 4 years but now i don't remember
and i did installed on my pc ,  never had a problem
after when cs3 come out , i tried the trial version , the first time i did  not like it , but after 2 weeks , i liked and i need it for camera raw
    i upgraded my cs2 license
well the point i donwnload the trial version of cs4  (english version , because most of the tutorials are in english) while cs2 and cs3 are in my language
i tried to make a custom install (i did not install all the comonent)
something went wrong ,when i tried to uninstall cs4 , i don't know but cs4 did not uninstall all the components (the uninstaller keeps adobe color Na, Ja, Eu, color common setting and cmaps)
i downloaded the cs4 cleaner for adobe page , but the adobe cleaner for cs4 was not able to clean these components, it tried to clean cs3
well i  had to use windows installer clean up manually
delete every thing that is related to cs4
    uninstall cs3 and re-install it
so after this mess, i ask if i can keep cs2 cs3 and cs4 (i think i will buy or upgrade) in the same pc running xp?
    my second question
    2) after updating cs4 , run the cs4 update utility and update all the cs4 components , cs4 seems to be more fast then cs3 , still on old pc with a powerfull machine like a p4 3.6 with 2gb of ram  and a good graphic card pci express
is my feeling ? is the cs4 more fast then cs3 on not fast pc , isn't it?
    thanks too much
    and have a nice day

    thanks John Joslin
CS4 is faster than CS3 on a computer which supports it.
which are the computer that supports it ? i run xp
why did the uninstaller do a mess up ?
    thanks

  • How to install eLearning Suite silently without the license agreement prompt

I was able to install the eLearning Suite 1.0 by following the guideline "How to install Captivate Silently".  I used the "setup --mode=silent --deploymentFile=install.xml" method, and that worked except one thing.  Adobe Air prompted for a License Agreement, and I also got a demo screen pop up.  How do I supress these two pop ups when using the silent mode setup?  I know how to do this for Captivate, but folder structures are different in eLearning Suite.
    Thanks.

    Bob,
Let me know if this summary is correct:
    1. If possible allways let Vista install apps in default directories.
    2. Adobe apps and their newer versions are by default installed in new directories (except for Acrobat). For example CS4 MC would be installed as a completely seperate entity from CS 3 MC. Another example, eLearning Suite 4 would be installed as a completely seperate entity from CS 3 MC. Therefore all settings in each newly installed application need to be set up. Does each application then have its own unique data directory structure?
    3. Since each Suite is a separate entity each license is seperate. This avoids cross license issues between different Suites.
    4. If a user allways wants the same (latest) version of an application to load then one must manually uninstall old versions in the other Suites.
For example, as a default install eLearning Suite 4 would be a completely seperate entity from CS 3 MC. The user would then delete the following older CS3 applications (as the newer versions are in eLearning Suite 4):
    Photoshop CS3 Extended
    Flash CS3 Professional
    Dreamweaver CS3
    Soundbooth CS3
Except for Acrobat as the default install would have updated the CS3 version.

  • Upgrade Photoshop from CS2 to CS3 in Macintosh

I am currently using Photoshop CS2 Mac version and DO NOT have CS3 beta version installed. I have couple installation questions whose answers are hard to find anywhere else, hope I can find them from this forum.
Since I heard a lot of troubles regarding upgrading PS from CS2 to CS3 if there is CS3 beta version already installed in Mac, I am a little be nervous. Here is my questions:
    1. Can CS2 and CS3 co-exist?
    2. Do I have to manually uninstalled CS2 prior to upgrading? If yes, how do I do it? I am assuming that CS3 upgrade should have a program to uninstall previous versions of PS, am I correct?
    3. How do I deal with my current registration?
    4. I have third-party plug-ins such as OnOne Mask Pro 4.0, nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 installed in CS2. What's the right procedure I should take to avoid their re-installation?
    5. I also have Lightroom installed now, will CS3 upgrade affect it? Do I need to take any action?
    Thank you very for help!
    Regards,
    Howard

    Patrick,
Welcome to the Macintosh. Glad the transition has worked well for you. A few quick points, here:
    1. Download the combo update to Mac OS X 10.4.11 from the Apple site.
    2. Any software that came from the previous owner must be Apple software that is included with the operating system; or, if other Apple or third party software (including Adobe or Microsoft), it must have a valid license that has been transfered to your name and you must have all discs. Otherwise, it must be deleted in order for you to be legal.
    3. The best current utilities for maintaining and optimizing your computer include: Apple's own Disk Utility (on your Mac OS system disc); Alsoft DiskWarrior; and Maintain Cocktail. Other very good tools include: Roxio Toast (for disc burning); SuperDuper! (for complete system backups); and FontAgentPro (for organizing and maintaining large numbers of fonts). Whether you just print family snapshots or you do four-color commercial printing, you need to calibrate your monitor. Look into the Spyder3 or EyeOne calibrators.
Also note that it is important to repair permissions and run DiskWarrior when you install or upgrade any software on your system. As the specifics of these have been detailed numerous times in this forum, I recommend that you do a forum search for the details.
    4. If you already have installed CS2, then you only need to purchase the upgrade version of CS3.
    I hope this helps!
    Neil

  • Can't open Photoshop CS5 I am required to accept the license agreement but still can't get in ...

I have had the Master Suite CS5 installed on my Macbook Pro for about 3 years now no problems , now it has started asking me to accept the Licence agreement when I try to open any of the applications (Photoshop / iD / Ai etc) .......
but when I click accept it just takes me back to the same window 'Accept / or not the License Agreement - basically going round in circles !!  Meanwhile I ahve no access to the software !
I have tried re - installing to no avail ..... , LR 4 and Adobe Bridge still open fine no issues !!
I have carried out full updates of everything, done a system scan with MacKeeper, turned the computer fully off and back on ..... !
Any ideas/ suggestions would be welcome,
    regards
    Clare

Hi Clare, I am having the same problems with my CS5 Design Premium! I got the graphics card replaced in my iMac and since then every time I try to open one of the programs, I get the licence agreement, click accept and it takes me back to the agreement again. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it which worked until I closed one of the programs, then the whole thing started again! If I leave the programs open after I use them it works which I am having to do until I get it sorted! I am just wondering if you managed to get yours working?

  • How do I access the End User Licensing Agreement? I clicked on it and it gives me a message that I need to launch Adobe Reader, accept and close and reopen. Trouble is I can't get to an icon for file to launch. I am working on a Mac and have installed Mac

I am using a Mac and have installed Adobe Reader for Mac, latest version. I cannot access the End User Licensing Agreement. I clicked on it and it gives me a message that I must launch Adobe, check that I agree, close and reopen. The problem is I can't find any way to launch Adobe because it appears nowhere on my launch pad, nor in my document files or on the control panel. Because of this, I cannot print bank statements nor can I get into my insurance companies billing department to make a payment. HELP!

How about in your Applications folder?

  • IE10 Windows7 - iTunes opens maybe 3 times and then it thinks i am a new user.  I ge the license agreement again.  Apple SR Techs cannot figure it out.  Does this have to do with IE10?

Windows 7 - installed IE10.  Now every few times iTunes is opened I get the 'user license' agreement as if i am a new user.  Apple SR techs have been working with me for weeks and have NOT solved this problem.  i have a iPhone 4S, but this happens before I even plug in.  Can you help?  Also, second question:
Also, I have two apple accounts (mistake) and apple says that they cannot delete the invalid one!  When I finally can get on iTunes it asks if I want to merge or replace - I am told to do neither (i am syncing by plugging in the 4S to my computer - i have Outlook).  SO... right now i am unable to sync.  SR Tech says having the 2 accounts is not the problem - actually - 2 techs said it was and 1 says it is not.  SO frustrating!  Is there a way to resolve this?
    Thanks - CJ Texas

McAfee AntiVirus by any chance? See the thread Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml?
Not so sure about the suplemental question, but see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for tips to make sure you don't lose content from the device.

Honestly I have never had so many problems installing any product.  To top it off Adobe does not offer any technical support on the weekends.  I've been fighting all weekend with this product when I need to get assignments done.  I'm truly at my wits end.  If anyone out there has experienced similar issues I would so appreciate hearing from you and anything you did to resolve them.

It sounds like you had a bad disk which is rare but hey it happens.  Here's what I would do.
Deactivate the software (assuming you can launch an application)
    Uninstall everything
Run the Adobe CS5 Clean Tool - http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
Optional Paranoid steps - restart the PC, run the CS5 clean tool again to verify there is nothing (Adobe MC5 anyway) on your system
    Restart the PC
Make sure any and all anti-virus and anything you can turn off is off.
    Install Master Collection as before.
I hope this helps and I'm sorry that you're experiencing some problems.  If the above doesn't work, I'd consider requesting new media to install your software on.
    Best,

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - License Agreement ACCEPT does not work

Today I purchased a license for Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, downloaded the software and installed. I execute the program and when I get to License Agreement I select accept and nothing happens. I can't get beyond this point.
I called Adobe Tech Support and they weren't able to help. I've seen many posts about this and no definite answer.
Before requesting a refund, does anybody know how to fix this problem?
I installed on Windows 7 Pro.
    Thank you,

I know this is an old posting, but for those like me who couldn't find the answer:
Had the exact same problem and  tried all the previous tips to resolve, including registering the  jscript.dll.
Thanks to the genius who posted the answer on another  'windows' forum (wish I could find that again).
Create a new  local admin account (add that account to the administrator  group).
Login to the new account and launch Acrobat. Then  (hopefully) you can click "Accept" to the license agreement.
The  registry key it creates is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe  Acrobat\9.0\AdobeViewer\EULAAcceptedForBrowser (DWORD=0x00000001). Not  sure if you can just manually add the registry value as I had already  fixed it by creating the new local account.
After it accepts the  license agreement, you can go back into your normal profile and run  acrobat. yea!.

  • I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser."  What do I do?

I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.”  What do I do?  I have opened this up in the past without a problem.

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
