CS3.2 - XDCAM EX - JVC GY-HM100 - Main@High 1440

Premiere CS3.2 says “codec missing or unavailable” when importing MP4 720p 25ftp HQ footage from JVC GY-HM100, i've previously worked with similar footage at 60ftps without any problems using Sony XD cam EX 720p editing mode. I've used MediaInfo on my Mac to find out what the difference is in the codec as mplayer and vlc say they're identical. But after a closer inspection via MediaInfo it would appear my working 60fps footage was shoot using the Main@High codec profile whilst the 25ftp non working footage use the Main@High 1440 codec profile, here's a sample of the problematic video stream data...
    Codec (Human Name)................................MPEG Video
    Codec (FourCC)....................................61
    Codec Profile.....................................Main@High 1440
    Frame Width.......................................1 280 pixels
    Frame Height......................................720 pixels
    Frame Rate........................................25.000 fps
    Total Frames......................................264
    Display Aspect Ratio..............................16:9
    Scan Type.........................................Progressive
    Color Space.......................................YUV
    QF (like Gordian Knot)............................0.794
    Codec Settings (Matrix)...........................Default
    Video Stream Length...............................9s 880ms
    Video Stream BitRate..............................18.3 Mbps
    Video Stream BitRate Mode.........................CBR
    Bit Depth.........................................8 bits
    Video Stream Size.................................23.0 MiB (91%)
    Video Stream Language.............................English
FYI, i'm UK based, hence been asked to edit 25ftp footage. This one is beyond me and unfortantely, i've got over 10 hours of footage from multiple JVC GY-HM100 cameras to edit and hate using final cut; which is favoured at my workplace, hence i'm still using my old version of CS3;)
Help would be massively appricated.
Cheers, Tim

Correction problems is with MP4 720 SP footage at 25 ftp recorded on JVC GY-HM100 which uses Main@High 1440, whilst HQ footage using Main@High is fine...

  • Premiere CS4 + JVC GY-HM100 MP4 clips

    Hello -
The new JVC GY-HM100 records video and audio to SDHC cards in .MOV or .MP4 formats. MOV is best for FCP of course, but MP4 is supposed to be best for Premiere. Well, 1280 x 720/30p MP4 footage does not play back OR burn to DVD with audio in sync. Is the setting XDCAM EX? HDV? What has worked for everyone?

    this is not completely right.
after shooting in different compressions with this camera, 1080 25, 50, 720, etc, I have imported the folder in Premiere CS4.
the result was that in the first 2 clips recorded in 1080/50 HQ the audio was ok, but the audio on the last 2 clips recorded in 720/50 have the same problem. all the clips were recorded one after the other and nothing have been changed in the SDHC card (this was not formated).
and thinking that the project was open as XDCAM EX 720 not 1080

  • I would like to save footage to a hard drive and stiill be able ot edit the footage. I would like to reuse the cards on the  same project. Is this a sensible option. Camera JVC  GY-HM100

Hello I wonder if anyone would be able to help.
I have a JVC GY-HM100. I have footage from a ongoing project saved on SDHC cards. I want to save money by reusing the cards while i carry on working on the same project.  I wondered if I could save the footage from the SDHC card too a hard drive ; delete the footage from the cards and reuse them. would i still be able to edit the footage stored on the hard drive alongside the footage which will be imported straight from the camera..  I have heard that this camera works well with final cut pro but if the info is saved to a hard drive first and subsequent footage is straight from the camra and SDHC cards will it work or is it a false economy to reuse the cards.
    Hope that makes sense

"I wondered if I could save the footage from the SDHC card too a hard drive"
    Yes.
"delete the footage from the cards and reuse them."
    Yes.

What program are you using to edit? If Final Cut Pro there is an entire forum with FCP experts who can guide you:

  • No picture, only sound. JVC gy-hm100 ssd card

    Hi.
I just bought the new JVC gy-hm100 camcorder that records directly into QT format. How ever, when I import the files to my new mac pro, I only get sound and no picture. Why???
    Jacob

    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/JVC-GY-HM100-First-Impressions-Camcorder-Re view-36458/Compression-amp-Media.htm
It appears to use MPEG-2 as the video codec which would require you to purchase the Apple MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 at the Apple Store).
The camera may also be supported by iMovie '08 or '09 directly from the camera which would allow conversion to an editable format.

  • JVC GY-HM100 with MBP

    Hello together,
I'm thinking about buying a JVC GY-HM100 camcorder to avoid the step of transferring the footage to a Final-Cut-Compatible format.
My question now is, is my Mac Book Pro strong enough to handle native HD-footage?
    The specs are
    MBP Late 2008, 2,4 GhZ, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Does anyone have any experience with the workflow using the two components?
    Thanks for your help.

I've recently rented this camera and am using an MBP mid 2009 w/ 2.53 gh processor to work on the footage. So far it works fine, but be careful about importing the files. I've had some issues with not correctly copying the ENTIRE directory structure from the SD cards to the HD, if not logging files directly into FCP. Good luck.

  • I have jvc gy-hm100 video cam.I would like to know which format is best for final cut pro?

My camera has a every size of resoloution. From 1080-60/30 to 720-24.It is totally compatiable with FCP.What i would like to know is what format is recomended for music video's and film production.Any info is greatly apprec!!!! Thank you!
P.S. Ive been producing music for 15 years.Recording on Logic plat.Mastering and remixing every thing. I love mac!!! Now going into video i want to be just Pro with it as i have been with my music.I purchased the jvc because Mac Recomended it and how it plugs right in. FCP 7 is intense!

All the available formats are "OK" for FCP7, the more important question is what's good for the movies you want to make?
In my limited experience, music videos tend to favor 24p for it's "film-like" qualities. The 1080 vs. 720 decision is frequently based on intended use; if you're going to release on the web, 720 is fine and brings much less filesize and overhead to the edit.
My personal preference is towards high-bandwidth footage like the 35Mbps HQ Mode your camera offers because it behaves so nicely in Color.  Many people advise staying away from interlaced (HDV) footage unless you totally need it for action scenes.
I think the last 4-5 music videos I've done were all 720p24 and were web released.
    Hope this helps...

  • JVC GY-HM100 camera and imovie

this camera records same format as final cut pro a .mov file. Does this mean it will also work with imovie without any conversion?

Do you know the native file format for imovie 09? if FCP is .mov MPEG2 long GOP.
FCP does NOT work natively with MPEG-2, which is a delivery codec. For iMovie info, post your questions in the iMovie forums.

  • Premiere CS3 - Audio out of sync in timeline

Audio is out of sync in the timeline.
Only occurs on mpeg clips that were captured at school (unsure of the settings used to make the capture as it was done by another student). These clips play fine outside of Premiere. This problem only occurs on my system at home I have searched and cannot seem to find a solution. I assume since it works at school and not at home that it comes down to a setting or hardware on my system causing the issue just not sure where to start. Any sugguestions would be greatly appreciated

  • Encore CS5 crashes on importing  _sessionFiles....ac3 for blu-ray.

    Ok, for starters, I've been using cs3-4-5 for a while to create DVDs, no problem whatsoever. Even with ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link). I've been able to burn 1 perfect blu-ray project, it was on a fresh install of CS5. Since then Encore CS5 keeps freezing when re-importing the files right after the transcoding. It always freezes at the same place on many different projects;
    The filename is: _sessionFiles_Asf_session_1_audio.ac3
I've tried many things: run as admin, holding ctrl/shift/alt on startup, cleaning cache. I even used the compressed files from the transcoded folders. My audio and video are of the same length. I just re-installed the suite today just to try it again on a clean install.
I've also tried the audio as pcm:

I was able to burn a blu-ray disc with my latest project but not without any hassles!!! I had to remove all audio from the menus except the main one. The software allows me for 1 menu with audio along with my main timeline. If I add audio to another menu, it crashes.
My project is a 4cam live show with 1 audio track.
The source format is from my HDV Camera. So it's a .m2t file.
The audio track is from the soundboard, a .wav file.

I've done another project and have encountered the same problems. So what I do now is main menu with audio, rest of the menus no audio.
I like Encore coz I can do popmenu with it, other softwares don't offer it. With other softwares I can do a perfect blu-ray with audio on all menus but no popmenu. That's why I'm working so hard to try to resolve the errors with Encore, so I can have projects with popmenu!!! If other softwares would allow for popmenu I would drop Encore.

  • Source File shows White Screen in Source + Program Monitor

    Hello,
I'm having an issue with only one of three media files in my Premiere Pro CS6 project.
When I try to preview this one video file in the Source Monitor, it shows only a white screen, and I can only move the playhead to the beginning and end of the file. I then plopped the clip into the sequence to see if rendering it would give me better luck in the Program Monitor, yet to no avail. The file supposedly successfully rendered, yet when I open the subsequently created "Preview" file in VLC, the entire clip is completely white for its entire duration. (I think it's interesting to note that VLC plays the source file correctly, and that this footage has been successfully used in a separate project in Final Cut after converted to ProRes with Compressor.)
I've opened the file with GSpot to make sure I had the Codec installed, yet GSpot doesn't list any Codec information for this file. It only lists Container information.

I'm unsure of the camera used to record this footage.

I created a video in HD 720p/30 MPEG-2 format, but it will not play in Windows Media Player 11 or Windows Media Center.
WMP reports: 'This video will not open. It may have been created with a codec that is not supported by WMP. Contact codec provider'. So here I am.
Video/audio plays fine in DivX player.
I created the same video in MPEG-2 Std DVD, and it played fine, just not the quality I wanted.
Are there codecs for this format available for WMP that are not included in APE-10, or Windows 7 Ultimate? If so how do I get and install them so the video will play in WMP.
    Thanks
    Doug

I do not use DivX for anything. It is just a player on my computer, I use when I can't open something in WMP. DivX usually opens anything.
Here is the report file from Mediainfo on the file in question. Not sure what 'MPEG-PS' is but I do not see any reference to DivX.
Can you tell anything from this?
    Thanks
    DN

  • Lightroom 4.1 - I Cannot import Nikon D300s video / movie files into catalogue - Can you?

    Hi,
I can import all of my movie files produced by other cameras into my Lightroom 4.1 catalogue, I have the most recent version of Quicktime installed and obviously as I can import other camera model movies it proves that the basic Lightroom services and processes are working fine.
When I try to import the movie, first on the import module it says 'unable to create preview' and then it states, 'this movie file contains no video frames'.
I had gone back to Lightroom 3.5, but have since realised this version doesn't publish my movie files to flickr if they are >30Mb due to the way the Lightroom 3 Publishing module craps out on memory usage.
I know the D300s records movies using the J-MPEG codec, but I'm not sure if this is a problem with the codecs installed on my machine or whether Lightroom does not support this codec?
Before I waste another few days on trying to resolve the D300s import issue, can anybody else preview and import their Nikon D300s video files into Lightroom 4 or 4.1?
    Thanks,
    Simon

i have issues with some MPG files that can not be imported.
these files are not from nikon cameras but it shows that something is broken in LR 4.1

  • Lightroom 4 and 4.1beta video file import error/failure

Findin that Lightroom 4 and 4.1 are not importing video/movie files.  Without exception every attempt made has resulted in an error.
In many cases just the first frame gets imported and converted to a low grade jpg image.
The same files import cleanly in to Aperture 3.x without difficulty.
Software glitch?  Or my brain cramp?

i too have a mpg file hat will not import in 4.1 RC.
i think it should import fine?!

  • Linking M2T files (5.5 to CC)

I used Premiere 5.5 to create a project.  I recently updated computers and software to Adobe Cloud and find Premiere CC as the application.  My issue is that I am trying to link the files that appear offline and I'm being given the message that "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match the original file's type (audio and video).  What is the solution here?  Its the same file as before just in a different location.  I need this file ASAP as this is part of a larger project I work on weekly for a sports program.  Below is the MediaInfo for the file.

  • Audio drift with HDV (25fps 48k) footage and split field recorder audio (48k)

Split audio and audio from captured footage start synced but split sound drifts increasinly over time.
I've tried with 24bit (audio) as it was captured on field recorder and a 16bit converted file - same issue.
Weirdly, when I time compress split audio (100.4%) - waveforms visually line up but when rendered or playedback, drift is STILL THERE ie - even if I play back split audio only, I'm hearing playback drifting/delayed by a second or two towards the end of the hour long shot. So audio corresponding to peaks in waveform happens (increasingly) well after playhead hit and passes the peak. (I hope that makes sense)
Any suggestions? I've already missed a deadline because of this issue. Thanks in advance.

Thanks but yes I did do that, and the waveforms visually align even when zoomed all the way in - from the original post:
"Weirdly, when I time compress split audio (100.4%) - waveforms visually line up but when rendered or playedback, drift is STILL THERE ie - even if I play back split audio only, I'm hearing playback drifting/delayed by a second or two towards the end of the hour long shot."
Literally, playhead passes over a peak then corresponding audio is heard dealyed, well after (and drift increases over time).
I can only surmise this is a bug with Premiere as I've done this process countless times without error in FCP. Not particularly happy with the lack of solution and time wasted on this.
