CS3 to deactivate (grayed out) ?

I tried to deactivate CS3 from one computer to put into my other computer and the selection to deactivate on the computer that it was originally installed is grayed out. Why is this happening?
Kathy

It is in the trial mode at this point? When I tried to deactivate it originally, I did it wrong somehow and it is trial mode now with both activate and deactivate mode grayed out. I guess I cannot regenergize it? Thanks for your inputs.

  • Export to Flash Grayed out

I currently have Captivate 4 and am trying to export some videos to flash.
When I navigate to File-Export-Flash the options (CS3/CS4) are grayed out and un-clickable.
I have CS5.5 installed but for some reason Captivate4 requires 3 or 4.
How can I go about exporting my videos to flash?
Is there a CS3/4 trial I can use somewhere to get this export working?
    Thanks,
    lmbrt.nick

    Hi there,
You will get that option highlighted only when Captivate 4 is a part of Elearning Suite, that feature is for round-tripping to open your project in Flash Professional CS 3 or CS 4.
If you would like to publish your project to flash output (.swf), then click on Publish, and select the .swf and select the version (8 or 9), and then hit publish.
It will then publish your project to Flash format (.swf)
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS3 - need to uninstall & reinstall but deactivation is grayed-out

Photoshop CS3 was living happily for quite a while on my system running Windows 7 32-bit, however, lately, upon closing, it freezes, requiring a cntrl-alt-del to force quit. It has the 10.0.1 patch, the latest. A repair re-install did not fix the problem, and I am not aware that I installed anything recently with which it should conflict. I have tried the various tips & tricks on the forums related to refreshing caches, etc., but to no avail. Something's broken that I hope to fix with a clean install. Buying the latest cloud version of Photoshop is not in the budget ... I just want to get back to where I was ...
I believe I need to do a complete uninstall of PS CS3, including manually deleting all registry entries related to CS3, Adobe, Photoshop, etc. + running cleaner utilities. While not too happy about that, I'm willing to try it. Here's the problem, I suspect that I will also need to deactivate first to prevent some issue with Adobe to later re-activate the fresh install ... the trouble is, part of what seems to be corrupted are the menu items relating to "deactivate", "activate", etc. ... they are grayed out, so I have no way to deactivate before I attempt a complete uninstall.
    A few questions;
Is there a known issue and fix for a missing deactivation / activation menu options for PS CS3?
Is there a way to manually preserve the activation key and remove all the other possible corrupted files and registry entries so that I can do a clean install?
Is there another way to fix a corrupted install of PS CS3?
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Yes, I had already googled and found all those 3rd party solutions before I posted my original question ... I'm not too comfortable with those, rather, I am looking for a "cleaner" solution directly from Adobe. By the way, I re-installed PS CS3 again, then ran the CC Cleaner tool BEFORE uninstalling ... it did function doing this, it removed PS CS3, but left other parts installed (Bridge CS3), I then re-installed PS CS3, but the result was no better than using the Windows uninstaller.
The more I get into this, the more I think I may need a fresh install of my Windows 7 and all applications ... problem is, I still can't deactivate Photoshop CS3 so as to re-install it on a fresh system build ... that  is, unless the Adobe server would recognize my computer's motherboard s/n and Windows 7 key and allows automatic re-activation ... does their server go by number of current activations or does it remember particulars of each current activation so as to "refresh" the activation on a clean install to an old computer previously activated?
Is it just me, or is this too many hoops to jump through to fix what used to be a solid piece of software? Is there some recent Windows patch identified as conflicting with CS3 software?

  • CS3 (XP sp3)  My "develop settings" vanish or are grayed out!?

I have CS3 installed at my studio and home.
It's been fine, but after a couple months use, at my studio if I right click on a thumbnail to apply the "previous settings" from another image to a group or other single image, the "Develop options" when I right click on the thumbnail has disappeared? (sometimes it appears on SOME images... usually it's gone). Now this happened at home too. (two different machines.
CLICKING EDIT at the top menu and selecting DEVELOP SETTINGS, opens another menu that has ALL the options (faded - grayed out).
My normal work flow is to tweak one image in camera raw, click DONE and then select all like images and APPLY PREVIOUS CONVERSION -
this has now stopped on both machines - it's literally driving my business to a hault! I'm using Bridge 2.1.1.9 it says
I've seen others have this same problem, but I didn't see any solution.

I haven't done your reboot or re-set options yet. (doesn't seem like I need to - as I'm trying other things to try and track down the problem).
So far here's what I've tried.
I went to an older directory and bridge worked fine as it should on all these images.
I went back to the problem dir... (same thing) no develop option on most image. (not all).
So - I created a new dir... "test" and copied 25% of the images that were having problems into the new dir. Went in there with bridge and (so far it's working fine). STRANGE.
(when I click on a image, it brings up camera raw... 4.5 and works fine... bridge stays in the background). WHEN I HAVE THE PROBLEM - clicking the image brings up CS3 in the background behind bridge.
I have no idea why.... still trying to see what causes it.
I'll continue to copy all the files into the new dir and see if I can make it happen again...
    will advise as I progress.

  • Bridge CS3 "Open in Camera Raw" unavailable (grayed out)

I am using Bridge CS3 (2.0.0.975; and Photoshop CS3) under Vista Home Premium. I have two accounts on this system (one administrative "root," and my primary limited user account).
My problem: under my primary account (even if I switch it to administrative), unless I open raw files with ACR, I cannot access "Open in Camera Raw..." under the file menu (as it is grayed out and inaccessible while trying to open jpg files, etc.). However, using the administrative account I can access/use the command. I tried uninstalling CS3, switching my primary to administrative and reinstalling using my primary account, but it still appears grayed out and I still cannot open files using the abbrev "Ctrl+R." Note, I can open jpg files in ACR, but this must be the default for all jpg files not ones that I select to open.
Also, under preferences>Labels, I need to uncheck the "Require the Control Key to Apply Labels and Ratings" every time Bridge is restarted as it will not save from startup to startup. Any help is appreciated. --Greg

There are 3 places to check this option, 1 in Bridge preferences itself, 1 in the camera raw preferences via Bridge and the last one in the PS preferences from PSCS3 itself.
They all should have a checkmark. But there are some issues with this option. You might also want to refresh the preferences with restarting Bridge an holding down option key and after doing so again check and set the prefs to your wishes.

  • Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 - Launch hangs on Registration Screen, All menu items grayed out

    I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.1.
When launching, the window labeled "Adobe Design Suite Premium CS3" opens - it's only filled with white, and no text or graphics (I think it's usually the window asking me if I want to register, which always comes up when I launch the program (rather annoying in itself).  However, now it seems that the launch gets "hung" on this window, as, even the the program starts, all the menus are grayed out, and I can't open any files or do anything.  Also, the window mentioned above only has the yellow "minimize" button available in the top left corner, so I can't close it or otherwise get rid of it.  Since even the Quit function is grayed out, I have to quit the program with a force quit.  Also, this same thing happens in my other CS3 programs (In Design) as well.
I tried trashing the photoshop plist file (com.adobe.photoshop.plist) and also the com.adobe.118.registration file, which had no effect.
Any advice on how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

Hopefully this solution will work for you:

  • Deactivate option grayed out

We recently purchased 2 RoboHelp licenses.  I am working on an automated install using the Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition and have done a test install and uninstall several times to a test PC.  Now that I am ready to deploy to the end users, I tried to go back and deactivate the RoboHelp on my test PC before doing a final install, but the option is grayed out.  I have read some references to this being due to using a volume license number.  If this is the case, do I not need to worrry about deactivating  for RoboHelp?

  • CS3 - can't import jpg - files grayed out - Mac

I'm trying to complete a tutorial in Fireworks CS3 on Mac 10.5.6.
The step I'm stuck on is:
"Select File > Import and browse to the following folder on your hard disk:
    local_sites/cafe_townsend/fireworks_assets/
    Select banner-mockup.jpg and click Open.
An insertion pointer appears indicating where the upper-left corner of the graphic will be positioned."
None of the JPG files are selectable, they're grayed out.
Other files in that folder, TXT and PNGs are selectable.
Other JPGs that are not in the folder indicated are also selectable.
I can drag the file from Finder into the Fireworks document ok.
I've checked the Sharing & Permissions on the files and containing folders and they all have Read & Write.
I copied a JPG that was selectable for import elsewhere into the fireworks_assets folder, and it's still selectable (not grayed out).
The files were copied & pasted in an earlier tutorial step from a different folder (Macromedia Fireworks 8/Tutorial_assets).
Trying to import them from the original location also fails.
So it seems there's something specific to these JPGs causing Fireworks to not want to import them.
    I can't figure out what.
The specific file I can't import is attached.

Not sure why you can't import the file, I'd suspect something is goofed up with the actual JPEG if you can import other JPEGS with no issues. However, if you can drag and drop or  copy and paste the image into your Fireworks document then you're ending up with the same results the tutorial is aiming for anyway.

  • Illustrator CS3 grays out and locks when using Save or Save As

In the past few days everytime I try to save an existing or new file with Save or Save As i see the save dialog box flash and then the whole program locks and grays out. The only way to close is to do a control-alt-delete. This happens for new files and existing files. I tried renaming the preference file so it would create a new one and that didn't work. I have cleaned out the temp files and I have plently of memory and RAM so that is not the issue either. We can't seem to find our CDs to do another install so are there any other ideas someone can give? this is also happening with my Photoshop CS3 and my InDesign CS3. I think it may have something to do with a microsoft update... thats the only thing that has changed on my PC in the last week. Oh and i also did a virus scan, nothing. thanks

The video card is opening the Save dialog offscreen, outside the visible desktop area.
Select Alt+ Spacebar, choose move and then use the arrow keys to move the dialog box back on screen and resize it so it fits and opens in the correct position.

  • DW-CS3 / Split/Design View grayed out

In Dreamweaver CS3 (9.0.3453), when starting a new site, only
the CODE preview button is available - Split/Design views are
    grayed out.
Also, everything in the submenu under View > Visual Aids
    is also gray
Also, Refresh Design View is gray.
I'm a visual kinda guy, and haven't been able to find a fix
    via Google.
NOTE: Everything was ok when first loading, then blew out.
Haven't been able to fix, and reinstalling doesn't work (I use Revo
Uninstaller to totally remove, so as to get a clean install -
    nothing)
    Many thanx for any help.

I think it is probably the type of document you are creating,
    for example if
you go to open a javascript or xml or css document, it goes
    to code and
grays out the disign and split views. So you might be opening
    the wrong type
    of document.

  • Type on a Path grayed out in CS3

I am new to Illustrator, following Help to run type around a circle. It tells me to select the type object and then select "Type on a Path," however, that option is mysteriously grayed out. What might I be doing wrong. Please help!
    thanks!

Back up a few topics to the one titled "Entering Text." Read the subtopic, "Enter Text Along A Path."
In the Help area to which you are referring, where the instructions say to "select the type object," it means for you to select not just an *ordinary* type object, but a path that already has text attached to it (what I call a pathType object, but which Illustrator calls a "Type on Path object"). In other words, it assumes you have already typed text along a path and is telling you to select that kind of text object.
If you select that type...uh...KIND of object, you will then find the Type On A Path menu selectable, and you'll be able to get to the orientation options.
    Start this way:
    1. Ellipse Tool: Draw an Ellipse.
    2. Type on a Path Tool: Click the edge of the ellipse and type characters.
    3. Type menu: Type On A Path...
    Don't worry. It's not you.
Illustrator has so-called "Point Type objects" and so-called "Area Type objects". But what one might expect to be referred to as "Path Type ojbects" are called "Type on Path objects". The Appearance Palette doesn't help. It labels all three as simply "Type".
AI's Javascript refers to them as "areaText", "pointText", and "pathText". But no one would know that, unless messing with Javascript.
The Document Info Palette--uh, no, that's a PANEL now--refers to them as "Point Type objects", "Area Type objects", and "Type on Path objects". But who would think to look there? And it only does that if you select Objects from its little hidden flyout menu. And who would think to do that?
There are, of course, not three, but SIX type tools. The regular one, the...uh..."Type Tool", can be used to create "Area Type objects" and "Type on Path objects" as well as "Point Type objects". So you don't really have to use the separate "Area Type Tool" and "Type on a Path Tool". If you click the edge of a closed path with the "Type Tool", you will create an "Area Type object"...unless you press Alt, in which case you will create a "Type on Path object". But if the path is open, clicking its edge with the "Type Tool" will create a "Type on Path object"...unless of course you press Alt, in which case it will create an "Area Type object".
    Confused yet? No?
Then perhaps it's time to take a look at the cleverly-named Effect>Distort & Transform>Transform command. Or the Pathfinder menu commands which are not to be confused with the identically-named Pathfinder Panel buttons which don't do exactly the same things, or the Shape Modes which also reside in the Pathfinder Panel.
You'll also find three cutting tools, none of which work right, and a Page Tool that does not manipulate pages. Illustrator doesn't have any pages; it has an Artboard. The Page Tool doesn't move the Artboard, either; it moves the printing tiles.
Before quitting for the evening, be sure to kneel beside your computer, press your palms together and, solemnly rotating to face the twelve signs of the zodiac, recite these twelve words twelve times out-loud in a slow rythmic monotone: "Strokes and Fills are not Attributes but Appearances but Appearances have Attributes."
    Welcome to Illustrator. ;-)

  • CS4 license marooned on my dead / inaccessible computer. Online Support goes in circles. Can't elevate to human by phone, or by chat. Chat link grayed-out for me. Now what?

    Hello:
I attempted to follow instructions given by a previous answer that addresses the same problem I have, but without success: Deactivation, cant reach computer it was activated on and Adobe "support" goes in circles and ends up in forum where Adobe cannot deactivate for me
Following Contact Customer Care did not lead me to chat option that I could spot. I'm sorry if I missed a link that is obvious to everyone but me. Maybe I just need that link pointed out to me more vigorously.
By the way, this link, What are my contact options? has a chat option, but it is grayed out (at least for me) so that's a dead end.
So, please explain to me (like I'm a bewildered child) how to get to chat support. I am unable to fill in logical gaps by myself. :-/
    Thank you SO much. :-)
That's it for my question. The rest is just a boring account of how I struggled to get here. Which I include just in case an Adobe Staff Member would find my customer-experience worth noting.
I reached Shivangi Moitra (Adobe) [email protected] by sending feedback about the dead-end support loop that I encountered by following the steps here, at www.adobe.com/getsupport. Incidentally, I gave her a detailed description of my deactivation problem too. Shivangi responded by directing me to use the same link that goes in circles! To wit: "The first step for contacting us will be to start online [at www.adobe.com/getsupport]." Of course you notice that this is yet another dead-end circle in the customer support system.
If my email to Shivangi is a useful reference then here you go!
I am unable to get online or phone support from Adobe. I need to deactivate CS4 from a dead computer. Adobe online help is defective because it puts the user into an endless loop making it impossible for me to find a solution, and impossible to get support. Please remedy the defect and please call or email me to manually update Adobe's activation database. (Phone and email address redacted.)
I own a copy of CS4 that is marooned on dead computer. Consequently, I can not deactivate that copy. I know that a single license for Adobe CS4 only lets me install the application on two computers, of which I can only use the application on one computer at a time.
I need Adobe to manually deactivate my earliest CS4 installation from its servers so that I can activate CS4 again when my new computer dies so that my work flow is not interrupted by the unavoidable (meaning eventual) breakdown of my next computer.

  • My issue started as ACR grayed out in Bridge using PS CC. No option in preference to open in Camera Raw.

My issue started as ACR grayed out in Bridge using PS CC. No option in preferences to open in Camera Raw. After browsing this forum I downloaded the most recent ACR and installed. Now Bridge stalls on the "building crieria" screen. There is a message to purge the cache but that screen stalls as well. I have force quite multiple times and re-started. Any suggestions?

As far as i know, photoshop cs2 and adobe bridge 1 (cs2) could not open jpegs or tiffs into camera raw, only camera raw files.
I believe photoshop cs3 was the first version to allow jpegs to be opened in camera raw.
Are you sure you had photoshop cs2 before?
If on the other hand, you can't open camera raw files that you used to be able to open, then you probably just need to update the camera raw plugin to version 3.7
    windows
Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : Camera Raw 3.7 update
    mac
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 3.7 update
