CSS styles show in Safari, not Firefox

If you go to
http://www.noematiks.com on a
Mac, the BOLD styles show in Safari but not in Firefox. Not sure
about a Windows machine yet.
The domain nameservers were changed about 32 hours ago and
maybe propagation is causing this issue (thats what my host said).
Any ideas?

Of course it's OK - it's OK to write any kind of code you
want. But if you
want clean, semantically meaningful code, it just makes more
sense to mark
up words that are meant to be emphasized strongly as
<strong> or <em>
rather than as <span>. <span> doesn't mean
anything, while <strong> does.
HTML is a "markup language", meant to "mark up" text in such
a way that
various user agents can display it in meaningful ways. Using
lots of
meaningless tags is never as good code as using semantically
meaningful
tags. Once you used the semantically meaningful tag, you can
always
determine how it's displayed by applying CSS. Conveniently
enough, just
about all browsers display <strong> in boldface, so
there's usually no need
to apply CSS to is.
It's one thing if you just don't care about clean code - then
it's all a
moot point. But it's funny that people do that - replace
<em> and <strong>
with spans which they then style as italic and bold - because
they think
it's *better* code because they're using CSS. That's
completely backwards.
Having said that, I truly don't care what kind of code you or
the original
poster write. Do whatever you want and have fun, and/or get
the job done.
I'm all for that. I was just commenting on what semantically
correct HTML
is.

  • How can i load a specific CSS style sheet for Safari?

    Okay, So I have some structure issues when viewing my website on Safari compared to Firefox. Is there a way to put a code in the <head> tag to load a specific CSS style sheet for Safari like you can do with IE?
    Thanks.

    I took a screenshot of your page from Firefox (shown below).  I assume you're seeing the same problem in Safari.  If you increase text size one click, the keyboard image drops below the #contact division.
    1) Height is a restiction in all browsers except IE.  Avoid  using height values on containers with text in them.  If needed to show  a background image, use the min-height property.
    2)  Fix your code errors. Some browsers are very sensitive to errors.
    3)  Your #content lacks cohesion. You need 3 columns, each with a width in pixels.  Or simply use a 3-column table.

  • CSS Style (report column attributes) not working

    I found the CSS Style settings for a report column only seem to work if using a "Standard Report Column". Since the report is wider than the screen, some columns are wrapping, making the report not-that-nice readable.
    Unfortunately I have the need to define some report columns where undesired wrapping occurs as "Display as Text (based on LOV, does not save state)" and tried to avoid wrapping using "white-space:nowrap;" or specifying a fixed width, but it seems I'm out of luck - is there a way around this (other than performing the report query using a huge DECODE clause and setting the column to "Standard Report Column" again, which somewhat renders the LOV useless except for the select list on the data entry form)? This is happening on APEX 3.12.
    Furthermore - is this expected behaviour?
    Thanks in advance,
    Holger

    Furthermore - is this expected behaviour?Looks like it, or it is a [long-standing bug|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1126613]. I've tried it (although only have access to APEX 3.0 at present) and none of the CSS class/style/custom attributes from Column Formatting or Tabular Form Element are being applied. If it's not a bug then it should be raised as an enhancement request.
    In the meantime you'll need to work round it.
    other than performing the report query using a huge DECODE clause Is that necessary due to a static LOV? If it's dynamic based on a table/view then get the look-up value in the query via a join or scalar subquery so you have a Standard Report Column and can use the CSS class/style/custom attributes from Column Formatting.
    Alternatively, stick with the Display as Text from LOV and create a custom named column report template using [colgroup/col|http://reference.sitepoint.com/html/colgroup] to specify fixed width columns.

  • Weird font in Safari NOT Firefox

    when I export my iWeb site to my desktop, Safari shows the main page in font NOT like I made in iWeb, but Firefox shows the web page as expected. I took off ALL shadows, all of the words are links to other pages in iWeb.
    is there a way to insert a screen grab so you can see what I am talking about?

    See my response in your other post. You could publish your site and provide the URL to it. That will give us a lot more to examine.

  • Animation of multiple background image positions via keyframes works in Chrome & Safari, not Firefox.

    The goal is to create an infinitely scrolling, two-layer parallax, patterned background. The effect works perfectly in Mac Chrome 35.0.1916.153, Mac Safari 7.0.4, iOS Chrome 35.0.1916.41, and iOS Safari 7.1.2, but it stutters in Mac Firefox 30.0 (haven't tested on iOS FF).
    My code is visible at http://jsbin.com/cifig/2 and is basically modeled after http://davidwalsh.name/multiple-background-css-animations (demo http://davidwalsh.name/demo/multiple-background-css-animations.php).
    If I make either one of the following changes, the stutter in FF resolves:
    • Limit `background-repeat` to `repeat-x` or to `repeat-y`.
    • Remove one of the two animated backgrounds.
    So it seems FF can't handle the continuous animation of two backgrounds that each have background-repeat, whereas Chrome and Safari can.
    Any tips? Thanks!

  • Youtube videos only open with quicktime--small screen/no audio. Flash works with Safari, not Firefox.

    I've updated flash, reset Firefox, restarted Mac. Youtube videos will not load with Flash. They open with Quicktime in a 1x2 inch box of low res images with no audio.

    Open up your preferences/Options and open up applications. From here check the preferences for youtube files. In about:permissions you can check the preferences for youtube.com as well.

  • Contribute CS3 not showing css styles

    I have 3 almost identical sites I am using Contribute to
    allow users to
    add content. All internal so I can' show URL's.
    The mystery began when I added the third site. On the other
    two when
    someone edits a page all the css styles show in the Style
    drop down panel.
    Not so on the third site. I created the other sites a while
    back using
    Contribute 3. The new one using CS3.
    I have checked over and over the role settings for each site
    to make
    sure I don't have something unchecked or somehow have a
    different
    setting between the three.
    No matter what settings I use in the Styles and Fonts panel,
    the Styles
    dropdown shows non of the styles included in the linked css
    file.
    Alex

    Is the style sheet also present in the document (f.i. by
    linking it in the head section: <link href="css/stylesheet.css"
    rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" />)? The styles
    you want to be displayed in contribute always have to be linked to
    the document.

  • Dreamweaver CS 6.  CSS Styles Greyed Out

    When I view the ALL drop down menu in the CSS Styles panel I do not see any casading CSS styles.  I have just brought a new defined CCS layout in and can view the Current drop down menu but when I got to the All style option it appears grayed out and not correct. It does not show defined CCS types?
    It should show - body, .container , .content, .side bar etc
    Any comments would be most appreceated.
    Regards.

    Have you checked your document for validation?

  • Can't select newly created css styles

    Help!
    After I have created a new css style, there is no way that I
    can apply it.
    The new style appears on the right-hand-side under Design -
    CSS Styles, but I can't select it in the Properties - Styles drop
    box neither if I select the text - right click - CSS Styles. It's
    not there......
    What am I doing wrong?

    What is your new style's selector, e.g,
    #foo, or .this, or what?

    I am using Mac osx 10.6 and building website with Dreamweaver CS5.  Sometimes div tags i create not showing styles or rendering in live view or when I browse but  showing in design view. I looked in dreamwever faq and they talk about not showing in design view to toggle the display styles. That is not the problem becuase it is check marked and I tried turning off and turning on and made no difference.I am using firefox browser.
    It happened before the other day too. But all of my other pages in this site that i have created the same way building with div tags and css styles. So not sure what the problem is. Maybe someone has a suggestion here.

  • Safari 5.0.3 not loading CSS style sheets 1st time through

    When I go to my ecommerce site's https payment screen, the page HTML loads OK but the formatting is missing (so the screen is really messed up). If I hit the page re-load function the page re-loads with all the formatting corrected. It behaves the same with both the Mac and Widows versions of Safari 5.0.3. The problem did not occur on earlier versions of Safari (i.e., the Mac I use for testing the site worked perfectly on the now problematic page until I upgraded to the latest version of Safari).
    The problematic page works fine with all the other browsers that I have tried (IE7, IE8, Firefox, Chrome)
    My guess is that it has something to do with some @import url("css style sheet") directives that are imbedded at the beginning of the master style sheet for the page.
    This problem will stop all Safari 5.0.3 users from navigating our site so it is quite serious.
    Any help on this issues would be greatly appreciated.

    Further investigation has revealed that the following error message is being generated within Safari during the first time the that the page is loading,
    "Refused to load from document base URL. URL found within request."
    The <base> directive in the HTML, in this instance, is referring to a different URL than the one that the page is running from. The page with the problem is running on a remote server and back referencing to the home server for the <base> reference. This fails when the page first loads but seems to be accepted if a page-reload is done. It also works on all other browsers that have been tested.
    Is this related to a security setting in the browser?

  • CSS style -Background not showing ?

    hi everybody ,
    first of all i'm quite new to Dreamweaver and webdesign word so ... sorry if i make mistakes
    when trying to prewiew my site , or in dreamweaver itself , i cant see my background (is a .png file made whit photoshop , a simple gradient whit some effects)
    i tryed to use the site manage , and set the image default folde , but this didn't resolved anything !
    this is my HTML code (oh yes , i'm writing the site in HTML5):
    <!doctype html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <link href="CSS/SitoCSS.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="Principale"></div>
    </body>
    </html>
    And the CSS style page:
    @charset "utf-8";
    /* CSS Document */
    body {
              background-color: #03F;
              background-image: url(Images/sfondo.png);
              background-repeat: no-repeat;
              margin-left: 0px;
              margin-top: 0px;
              margin-right: 0px;
              margin-bottom: 0px;
    #Principale {
              font-family: "Palatino Linotype", "Book Antiqua", Palatino, serif;
              background-color: #000;
              float: left;
              height: auto;
              width: 901px;
    thank you all
    Bye !

    Without seeing the live page its difficult to analyse BUT here's a couple of things you could look at:
    1) Is the name of your folder really Images with a cap 'I' or is it images with a lower case 'i' ?
    Images/sfondo.png
    2) Is your png file saved as RGB and not CYMK color space?
    3) Looking at what you have posted the path to your bg image is probably incorrcet
    background-image: url(Images/sfondo.png);
    Should be: (note the ../ infront of the Images folder name):
    background-image: url(../Images/sfondo.png);
