Cups / HP Laserjet 4200 network printer

Cups can get on my nerves bigtime.
at first, I just installed cups, and soffice (libreoffice) would , in the 'print dialog' show me a bunch of network printers it found, but when i printed to any of them,
the job would just stick to 'in process' in the cups webinterface, even though the printer was idle.
I then installed hplip 3.11.1-1, hpoj 0.91-15, avahi and a whole bunch of other packages:

however, now the printers don't show up anymore in soffice, nor in the webinterface.  *sometimes* when I search for printers, it will show them, but not always.
and when it shows them, it only shows the model and type, not the human assigned name/description (which I saw at first)

Add to that the fact that even though I go to localhost:631 or 127.0.0.1:631, cups generates links to my external ip, which is the interface cups doesn't listen on.
painful!

those errors are from *before* I installed avahi, after installing avahi I can't even select the printer :x

a bit more info: after a reboot i somehow magically see the printers again (both in the webinterface and in soffice), but when I send it a print job, I notice the printer status is
Idle - "Connecting to printer..."
so maybe this is some kind of networking problem? weirdly enough location is set to "location unknown" so I cannot do a ping test.
and the only errors in the logfile are "SSL shutdown failed: Error in the push function" (probably because of using https on the webinterface), so I'm clueless

  • LaserJet 2550n network printer on XP host PC, can't install Windows 7 client laptop

Have Color LaserJet 2550n network printer connected to XP host PC. I can't install  Windows 7 client laptop for printer. The wireless network is fine, I can access documents back and forth, merely the printer doesn't work and there's no way to download 64bit drivers for this printer from HP.

    Resolved, not solved.
I talked to HP product support. The Officejet Pro 8500 A910 will not install on Windows XP (at least the Home Edition) when networked through a router. It will install through USB. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it with only USB connected to clean out all the network printer/scanner information. Product support claimed it would install through an ether net cable connected between the printer and computer but this does little good if you need internet access.

  • Problem with Lion 10.7.3 with hp laserjet 3600n network  printer

    Hi
Problem with Lion 10.7.3 with hp laserjet 3600n network  printer
Guys i am having a mad day with this new OS and some network printer none of them work with new LION,The software for this printer is currently unavaliable. Please contact the printers manufacturer for the latest software, i need the drivers for this, please give a hand with this issue
    Best Regards

Exactly the same infuriating problem we and many others get with OS X from 10.6 on when Apple dropped Apple Talk.
Having spent days fighting to get drivers that will run our older laser printers like HP5000, 5100, 2100, 2200 and 4MV, we came up with a simple solution:
We use an iMac running 10.5.8 as a print server. All the 10.6 upwards Macs on the same network will see and add the printers immediately through the shared older (Apple Talk) iMac.
Cheapest and simplest option really .... it'sannoying that a brand new Mac can no longer see existing network printers without complex investigation and trying various downloads.
Answer is simple and cheap if you happen to own a 4 or 5 year old Mac with an OS lower than 10.6 which still has Apple Talk.

  • HP Laserjet 4250 Network Printer Connection Issues

    Hello
We have a HP 4250 Laserjet network printer set up as a shared printer on our Windows Server 2003 32-bit print server.
We are using the latest PCL 5e 32-bit drivers and have now added the PCL 5e 64-bit drivers to accomodate a new Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Laptop. However, although it appears to pull the driver across properly, it fails to communicate and complete the installation with the following error:
"Printer Cannot Connect Operation Failed' error 0000007e
I have apoplied the hotfix addressed which addresses a similar problem but this made no difference.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981070/en-gb
Any ideas what I could try next?
    Kind Regards

  • HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Network Printing

Here we go again. I just upgraded the Windows 7 and I am still having the same network printing issues I encountered in Vista.
    1. It doesn't appear that there is a Windows 7 32-bit driver for this printer, am I wrong? I found the drivers page for this printer and it is VERY POORLY written. All I can surmise is that I should install a universal printer driver.
    2. The printer is going OFFLINE constantly. This printer is connected directly to my hub with a network cable. I have two other printers on my network, one is a Brother and another is a Canon. I have never ONCE experienced this issue with their printers. They just work like they are supposed to. Why does this continually happen with this HP printer. The only resolution I have found is to delete the printer and add it back. Every two days delete the printer and add it back, uggghhhh. Give me a break, don't you guys test this stuff before you sell it?
As you can see I am not a happy camper.

I'd like to add that the driver provided by HP doesn't allow duplex printing - one of the main reasons I purchased the 2605 printer.  Is there a duplex option available?
Surely, my 2605 is still within its service life.  I would have expected HP to do a better job in the transistion to Windows 7 than throwing out some awful generic driver...
Enable the duplexer as described in the Vista/WIndows 7 Duplex Troubleshooting guide as described here.

  • Hp laserjet p1102w networked printer shuts itself off

Hi, I have a networked (not wireless network) printer, which is plugged into a computer that is always on. However, it shuts itself off randomly, even though I have set it to never do so. This means that users must walk over, turn the printer on, and occasionally restart their computers before they are able to print, which sometimes causes them to lose work. Occasionally the users will also receive a message like:
The printer spooler on the server was not responding
Which means someone must reset the server spooler before it will print.
I have also set it to go into power-save mode at the longest interval, one hour, but it frequently goes to sleep within minutes of a print-job, often sparking the above issues.
If there is anything that I can do further to keep from forcing the users to constantly turn it on, or to keep from having to restart the spooler every day, that would be great.
I am working with machines using Windows 7 and 8, and with a Windows Server 2012.

I got to this screen by going to the web interface by typing the printer's IP address into a web-browser's address bar.
Sorry for the delayed response. I will do my best to assist you when I get home.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

As part of this software we print 3 part invoices, credit notes etc on different coloured paper. We do this by printing to different printer trays. Originally we tried automating the printer tray configuration through VBA code using one report and changing the print tray as part of the print process but were having problems with Microsoft Access freezing. As result we have resorted to printing 3 different reports straight after each other (using VBA code) but with each report specified to print from a different tray.
    We are current using tray 2 (500 sheet feeder - standard A4 paper), tray 3 (500 sheet feeder - standard A4 paper) & tray 4 (500 sheet feeder - standard A4 paper).
The current setup does print a copy from each tray and does give us what we want apart from the whole print process being very slow.
The first page comes out from tray 2 at the normal speed you would expect from a network printer but then we start to have issues.
Sometimes the second page from tray 3 will come out quickly but the third page (from tray 4) will be very slow or both pages 2 & 3 will be slow to print. There seems to be no pattern as to why these are slow. To make matters even worse sometimes it will print correctly and all three pages come out in very quick succession (although rarely).
We are using modern PC's (running Windows XP SP 3 with 2GB RAM & 160GB HDD) and the print command is definately being sent to the printer in quick succession - as far as I can tell. I have tried to setting the printers to print through  the server and setting them up to print directly to the printer using the built in print server in P4015x.
The printers are networked to a Windows SBS 2008 server with quad core processors and 16GB RAM.  The server is only used as a file and print server and is not under heavy load.
I will also point out that I have tried printing to another HP printer (4250dtn) and it has exactly the same problems.
I have removed advanced printing features from the printer driver setup on the client PC's but it does not seem to make any difference. I have also tried printing directly to the printer rather than spooling.
I have updated the drivers to the latest one on the HP website and still no change.
I would appreciate any ideas any one might have to sort the problem out.

    Did you ever solve this?
I'm doing the exact same thing: three print outs in succession to a specific tray on a network shared printer and occasionally getting a MS Access printing error 2212 counldn't print you object.  Printer setup is saved with the reports one for each printer tray.
I'm printing from bespoke MS Access 2002 application using runtime to HP LJ 4100 on Citrix terminal server session.
Any info you have would be appreciated.

  • HP Laserjet 4100n network printer driver fails to install

I am trying to install the printer driver for an HP 4100n laserjet on an XP machine.  I have downloaded the file "hp LaserJet 4100 Printing System (61.3 MB) from the HP web site.  First issue is that upon executing the setup exe file the InstallShield stops at 99%.  I have to end it via Windows Task manager.  Occassionally I can get to 100% but I have no idea why only occassionally.  If I boot into Safe Mode I get to 100% everytime.
Once in Safe Mode the wizard seems to operate properly, finding the printer on the network and returning the correct TCP address.  I get to the end of the wizard and I get a Sever Error message and the wizard terminates.
I have two laptops and one other desktop connected to the 4100n via the network.  I must be doing something wrong and could use some suggestions.
    Thanks

  • Help with HP Laserjet 1220 network printer.

I have an HP Laserjet 1220 connected via USB to my old G4 running OS 10.2 in my home office. I have a MacBook now running 10.7.4. Both computers are on my wireless network using on a Linksys E1000. When my MacBook was running 10.4 I had no problems printing to my HP printer. Once I upgraded my MacBook to 10.6 and eventually now to 10.7.4, I can no longer connect to my HP printer. The only way I can print from my MacBook is to connect to my HP Laserjet 1220 via USB. I have tried many times to set up my printer, but no success. Can anyone help me? Many thanks.

10.2 is very very old. Alternate solutions:
    1. Replace the Linksys Router with an Airport Extreme, plug printer into USB port on router.
    2. Keep your Linksys but add an Airport Express which can join your WiFi and share the printer. Or buy a cheaper print server http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Networking-Accessories/Wireless-Print-Servers/abcat0 503006.c?id=abcat0503006
    3. Buy a new printer with WiFi built in.
All three options mean you don't need to keep the G4 powered on to print wirelessly from the MacBook Pro.

  • How can I configure to use a HP Laserjet 4000 network printer on Solaris 8?

    Hi,
I have to configure a Solaris 8 machines to print some doc on a network HP Laserjet printer. However, I have no idea how to configure it. Do anyone have some suggestion how to do it?
Do I need JetDirect to do so?
If yes, how can I get it?
    Thx a lot!

Easiest and quickest way is with Jetdirect or the later HPPI - both available from HP.

  • CUPS can't locate network printer

I don't know if this is a network issue, or a PKGBUILD issue.
I have a Brother printer that is not one of the ones for which there is an AUR package already. So I just copied a PKGBUILD and .install from a similar model's AUR package. Here they are:
    PKGBUILD:

    printf "\033[1m\032[32m\x3d\x3d\x3e\033\1330m Something went wrong...\n"
    fi
So, then I open up the CUPS web interface and voila, I see MFCJ435W ready to go! So, I print a test page and it fails with "Unable to locate printer "BRN0080928DFDD8.local"."
I have no idea what to do to diagnose and fix my problem. Help?

Do you have a mdns service configured? I am not sure if this is related, but zeroconf/avahi's .local domains get resolved by a multicast dns infrastructure:

  • Re: OSX Lion printer problems with HP Laserjet 4200

I have updated the driver for the HP LaserJet 4200 series printer to ver. 18.2. The computer communicates with the network, via a Linksys Wireless-G printserver, WPSM54G, and is sending something to the printer, but the printer prints only what appears to be identifying information, then raw code. Has anyone else had this problem? I use this OSX with three other printers, two of them wireless, with no problem.

Just found an email HP Support sent to me back in January 2008, about this issue
    "Hello Hunter,
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
There currently is not proper driver for 10.5, so it is surprising that the printer is printing correctly on your Mac from any application.
Your issue cannot be resolved until the 10.5 driver is developed and released.

  • Basic tiger server printing to network printer issues - HELP :)

Hi everyone, Im after some help as im running out of ideas, here is my basic setup: (sorry i have rambled on a bit
current 192.168.0.x network that has ADSL, PC's HP Laserjet 5Si network printer.
Connected to that is my Tiger server with 2 lan ports, one is connected to that network and the other connected to a switch where I run all my macs - the server is a basic file and software update server.
macs connected to the server get a 192.168.2.x address and can access the internet and each other etc - all is happy.
now - I had my personal macbook pro connected directly to the first network to access the printer, works fine and fairly quickly but was unable to access the server (i imagine because the server thinks i was from the big bad internet from the .0.x range
once i connected to the other network served by the mac server i could access all the files fine but printing would not work, so i thought I would have the server access the printer as it has access to both networks and just share it to the local macs.
well when i add it and put in the 192.168.0.71 address it connects and loads the GIMP HP5si driver, but when it tried to print it takes up to 5 mins to show that its finished, but only sometimes does the printer actually fire up, and the times it did it never printed the whole page...
The only thing i can think of is that the server is trying to print to the .0.x address'ed printer but using the .2.x address range, possibly confusing the systems.., im not too familiar with all the firewall/NAT settings ,i think i have everything turned off, but its still not working..
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, im not sure what else to do.
    Thank you for your time

This sounds more like a protocol or a driver issue rather than an addressing issue. Which protocol is being used to connect to the printer? You mention the GIMP driver gets loaded, which I read that it's an automatic function rather than you having to manually browse to the driver.
Also, I would look at trying the Gutenprint drivers from Sourceforge rather than the included GIMP-Print.
The other thing would be to check the cups error log on the server. It could give some clues as to why the spool file is taking so long.
