Cursor is missing!

I just did a fresh install of arch and every thing went well. When i startx into xfce4 (or fluxbox) my cursor is missing. I can still right click and get a menu but theres no cursor image. I did notice that my cursors are stored in /usr/share/icons instead of /usr/share/cursors like in gentoo. I tried cping them over to /usr/share/cursors/ but still no cursor. I have search around and doesnt seem like anyone else has this problem.

What might work is if you make sure that a cursor theme is specified by creating (or amedning) an Xdefaults file
echo Xcursor.theme: themename >> .Xdefaults
I had similar problems with fvwm and that fixed it for me

In EA1 and EA2, my cursor seems to intermittently go missing in SQL Worksheet

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.25-b02, mixed mode)
(edit: Just tested in Windows - cursor does not go missing)
One such pattern that I noticed it seems to go missing on is when running a script.
Another pattern, if I hit enter a few times before the cursor has a chance to blink in between (not always), or hit the up or down arrow to go to the top or bottom of the page respectively, it also disappears.
I'm able to get the mouse back by dragging the window out of maximize position.
Couldn't reproduce in a procedure editor - assume will be same for package/function editor. So it's most prominent in SQL Worksheet.

I'm having this same issue that started happening with EA1 and persisted into EA2. It was not occurring prior to my upgrade. My input cursor disappears when scrolling up or down in code using the mouse wheel or scroll bar when the code extends beyond the display area. Moving the window does not help, but resizing the window appears to cause it to redraw and the cursor appears again. I can see what line I am on due to current line highlighting, and I can also select text or start typing to get an idea of where I am.

  • HT201276 The information *****. I'm trying to force quit because my cursor is missing and frozen. I can't just get the machine to close because I have to click on options: 'restart cancel sleep shut down'. So I've tried force quitting and nada. Nothing ha

    Aaaaaarrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!
I was typing along and then all of the sudden my cursor disappeared! I can't find it. I've tried shutting down my Mac, but I can't do that because the box pops up when I hit the on/off button asking if I want to restart, sleep, cancel or shut down. I've tried hitting return. Nothing.
I've tried to force quit. Nothing.
    I called Apple - it's a holiday.
I only bougth this Mac in late July. It took a while to download the new operating system. My track pad hasn't been working, I haven't been able to drag my fingers over it and scroll down. I'm pretty stupid, but the woman who normally handles my tech problems couldn't figure the track pad problem out either. There is a local guy who fixes Macs, but I've owned this for less than 90 days so it should be covered and I shouldn't have to pay for seeing this guy.
But now I'm losing at least a day's work. HELP! Thanks.

Thanks guys (I'm using guys in a non-sexist way in case one or both of you are differently equipped).
My problem 71 is that I live 125 kms from the nearest Mac Store. And it's a holiday so I'm losing a day's work. The local guys who does repair Macs is great. But since I couldn't contact Apple I would feel obliged to pay him for his services.
I realize I am under the 90-day service period and I do plan to buy Apple Care, as I get close to the end of the 90s days. But the failing, it seems to me, in Apple Support is they it is built around you having access to your machine or the web. And if, like today, I couldn't access them then the service is moot.
I'm lucky in that I still have my old MacBook pro stuck in a closet in reserve.
I do appreciate you and WZZZ taking the time to help me out.

  • Yoga 2 Pro stuck volume, missing cursor, onscreen keyboard unusable

I'm having several issues with a Yoga 2 Pro laptop running Windows 8.1 that's about a year old.
    1) Volume is stuck at 0. I can raise the volume, but it automatically lowers back down to zero, as if the volume-down key is stuck. The volume indicator is always onscreen.
    2) Cursor is missing, however I can still right click/left click. Also, the cursor will reappear when I uninstall the Synaptic touchpad drivers.
    3) The onscreen touch keyboard is unusable. I can click on the icon and it pops up, but it immediatly goes back down.
    4) Side screen charms won't stay on screen (example: pressing the F10 key or project screen the side menu pops in but immediately pops out, similar to the keyboard). Also if I swipe in from the right and try to use anything (devices, settings, etc.) it does not respond
    5) Pressing the start key doesn't bring it to the start screen, but holding it down for a few seconds does.
The above problems still exist in safe mode.I'm thinking it's a hardware issue or a bad connection of some kind. I've tried:
    1) Removing/reinstalling various drivers (touchpad, audio, graphics)
    2) Disabling services (YMC comes up often when looking at trackpad problems, but this hasn't worked for me)
    3) Uninstalled/reinstalled programs (Energy Management, Transitions, etc.)
    4) Did a complete factory reset at one point, had no effect.
I've had the problem a couple times before, and one thing that DID work was to hold down the power button for ten seconds while the computer was off, then let it reboot. Unfortunately that solution is no longer working. The threads I've linked below have been the closest I've found to a problem like this, but neither of their solutions worked for me.

Any help would be much appreciated! Definitely affecting my usability of this otherwise wonderful machine.

Update in case anyone else comes across a similar problem: I ended up sending my laptop into warranty, and it came back a week later working completely. No idea what the problem, cause, or fix was, although they didn't replace any major parts (battery, cable, cpu, fan, hard drive, keyboard, touch pad, display, memory, motherboard...going off the list they sent back, none of those were replaced), so I'm not sure what to think. Not even a factory reset. I'd love to know what the issue was, in case it comes up again but am happy that my laptop is once again functioning in either case!

  • Logitech Touch Mouse App won't work or display cursor on a iOS device running RD Client App

I was trying to use Logitech Touch Mouse App installed on a iPhone5 as a physical mouse with a RD Client installed on another iPad mini. The host is a NB running Windows 7. The Touch mouse movement is noticeable on the RDC screen on iPad mini, but the cursor
is missing. It appears the cursor image was blocked by the RDC.
It would be very helpfull for the RDC running on a iOS device to support this type of WiFi mouse App to enable a physical mouse (through a smart device). I can see many usage models of RD Client with this type of physical mouse feature.

  • All Tracks Forward/Backward & Missing Effects

    Hi,
    1. Please tell me that fcpx has the equivalent to fcp7's All Tracks Forward and Backward in the tool palette. If so, where is it?
    2. In fcp 10.0.8 it says i have 472 Missing Effects. When putting cursor over the Missing Effects Title a box comes up for about 5 seconds that reveals all the missing effects, but there seems nowhere to get that list as when you click on Missing Effects nothing happens. Is there someplace we can get a list of our Missing Effects in fcpx?
    Thanks,
    joe

Hi Luis, Yes I understand all of that, but to get the names of those effects which can be seen for 5 seconds when putting the cursor over Missing Effects there must be someplace i can click to see a list of the effects. without the list i can't find the programs that i need to get so that those effects will be on my mac. the editor believes it's unreasonable to ask him for a list of missing effects and won't send them. thanks!

  • Scrollable cursors

    Hello
I'm trying to explain why ansi style scrollable cursors are missing from Oracle to a group of people who are used to working with SQL server etc. Their position is that it's a pain in the backside to write a paging service into their application that will need to issue(taken from asktom)
    select *
from ( select a.*, rownum rnum
               from ( YOUR_QUERY_GOES_HERE -- including the order by ) a
              where rownum <= MAX_ROWS )
where rnum >= MIN_ROWSAs I understand, SQL server etc offer server side cached scrollable cursors but oracle does not. As I have seen so far, there is normally a very good reason why Oracle not to support a particular feature so in this case, does anyone know what it is?
    Cheers
    David

    Andrew,
I've not been able to get a difinitive answer on whether JDBC supports the MS style scrollable cursors or not but from the discussion I had with a SQL server dba, he said that you could only specify the attributes of a cursor in TSQL. The more I thought about what our java guy was talking about and the inteded design of the system, the more I realised that he didn't really understand what he was asking. They are intending to use hibernate, which will generate SQL statements for basic crud operations and and wrap them in a set of java classes. They are not intending to use stored procs/ref cursors for anything so there is no way they could use the type of cursor he is on about (on SQL server or Oracle if it provided them)...or any declared type of cursor for that matter., they are just receiving result sets from straight sql statements.

I have to agree with you whole heartedly. I've been on this contract for 5 weeks and so far I've produced one script to produce one table. The port is from a cobol system...The main idea is to treat the database as...you guessed it...a black box so that the application can be simply[i] put on any chosen database platform without batting an eyelid, and we retain all the "advantages" of platform independence.
Anyway, with very little else to do all day I'll continue to look for other work while keeping an eye on the forums and reading some very interestiong articles on ask tom. Sorry for the little rant, but I am going slowy insane ;-)

  • The text cursor disappeared

As the headline says, my text cursor has disappeared. How do I get it back? (This is my first mac so I barley know anything at all)

    Hi ArtlieST,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If your cursor is missing in Pages, I would suggest switching to a different application and then back to the Pages app.  If the cursor is still missing, save your document, quit the Pages app, and then relaunch it again.
    OS X Yosemite: Window basics
    Quickly switch between apps
Quickly switch to the previous app: Press Command (⌘)-Tab.
Scroll through all open apps: Press Command (⌘)-Tab, continue to hold the Command key, then press the Tab key repeatedly. When you get to the app you want, stop and release the keys.
Resume work without switching apps: Press Esc (Escape) or the period key.
Below are some resources to help you get started on your new Mac:

  • Mouse troubleshooting ideas?  Loses connection constantly.

I have a new Mini, and I'm using a wireless Magic Mouse that I am trying to use, along with a wireless keyboard.  I don't have any issues with the keyboard, but I can't get my wireless mouse to consistently work; I keep having to fight it to move an inch or so, the cursor goes missing, the connection will be lost repeatedly, and basically I'm about to pull my hair out with frustration.  Yes, I've changed the batteries to fresh ones.
The thing is, I have had repeated mouse challenges with the past several computers I have owned, with similar issues.  Now, I'm wondering if perhaps there might be interference from another source.  I have another computer next to it, and share a monitor between them, and that computer also uses a wireless mouse, which is shut off when not using it.  I also have an Apple TV, PS3, & a Revue...all wireless.
My dh sits next to me and also uses a wireless mouse & keyboard, but he never has any problems with his electronics not working.
I have tried several different mousepad surfaces, and although one seemed to work better than the other, it does not do enough to fix this issue from being intolerable.  I'm about to give up on my attempt to switch to MAC, but hope someone can help me troublshoot & get moving.  Many thanks in advance to all helpful replies.

Hi, I consider Wireless mice the worst invention since dust, but if you think it's interference, which is l;ikely, try placing a sheet of alumininum foill between the two.

  • OnMouseClicked event with overlapping custom nodes

I'm having a bit of an issue with overlapping nodes.
Essentially what I have are rectangular shaped custom nodes which, when an onMouseEntered event occurs, has an extended set of icons that fade in that are located on the above top right portion of the node. If I may use ASCII to illustrate :)
    X
    [ MyCustomNode ]
+(Blank spaces don't work too well so let's pretend the X is sitting on top of the node on the upper left corner)+
The X is an icon that simply deletes the node.
The problem occurs when the nodes are overlapping (i.e. one above the other, where the X icon is overlapping with the node above it). When I click on the X, the onMouseClicked event fires for the node above.
I've tried mucking around with disabling the node and using toFront() and toBack() as well, but no luck.
Now that I think about it (I'm sure this is related), I've noticed issues with text/labels interfering with the "click-ability" of an object that it is overlapping. Since the text generally occupies little pixels in terms of the width of the actual text, it just seems to only sometimes interfere with onMouseClicked events - if you click on the right spot that is. If you disable the node, do the pixels the text/label occupy become "dead"? as in that space cannot be used to initiate the onMouseClicked event of an object behind the text? Make sense?
    Any ideas?

I've put up a picture for your reference: [http://imagebin.ca/view/Lj9C7q.html]
How it works is that each node can be clicked on, thus increasing its opacity to 1.0. Once "selected" there is a mouse enter/exit event for that particular node which allows the X icon to fade in/out to delete the node.
What's happening is that if you click on the X of the selected node, the node directly above (1432-1481) is being selected, although the deletion of the original node works fine.
Also the onMouseEnter event is firing for the "1432-1481" node if you hover over the X. As you can tell in the screenshot, the opacity is increased if you hover over an unselected node. You can see that the "1432-1481" is slightly brighter than the other nodes above it. Obviously the cursor is missing from the screenshot but it should make sense.

  • "Error 0x400110020000100A If this issue continues, please contact HP support"

I have purchased the system recovery disks from HP for my dr9225nr pavilion and purchased a new hard drive at their request because my first attempt to install the recovery image ended with the same error code. So I now have a new hard drive the HP supplied image recovery DVD's and still get the same error. When I contact HP they want me to pay $59 for a one time service fee to troubleshoot my problem. Does anyone know what this error is and how I can fix it?
I cannot access the old hard drive at all. I was able to prior to my first attempt to recover with the recovery disks but after that when it goes to boot it black screens with just a cursor or "missing boot manager".
Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated..

I have seen others have problems with Recovery Disks, especially Vista Recovery Disks- not really sure why. Most of your Vista drivers will work in Windows 7. You may be able to explore the disks and find the installers. Or you can download the drivers from your models support page. I looked for it but can't find one for the model you specified-dr9225nr- are you sure that is the correct model?
Once you are sure of correct model number by checking Service Tag attached to bottom you can find your support page by using the button at top of this page titled "Support & Drivers".

  • PhotoShop Liquify Filter Not Working

First of all, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong area! I've recently purchased Photoshop CS6 extended and I was very excited to start using it. I went onto the liquify filter to start editing an image and noticed something incredibly strange. Usually, the liquify tool will have the image on the left hand side pf the screen for editing, right? Well, Not only did it have the image, but also part of the main Photoshop screen surrounding it. Now, at this point I though; "Huh, strange" , and not much else. I carried on and selected a tool to start editing. However, when I hovered over the image, the cursor disappeared! At this point I was confused and thought I had pressed something on the keyboard which had caused this, so I quit and went back on. This time, instead of accessing the liquify page by going Fliter > Liquify... , I pressed Ctrl - Shft - X, only to find the same outcome. Can somebody please help me with this problem?
You may notice that in this image there is no cursor. As metioned earlier, the cursor vanishes when hovering over the image. You may also notice that the image is surrounded by dark grey, this is the main screen where the majority of the work is done in Photoshop. One strange thing I have noticed is that, when using the Hand Tool the cursor appears. I also can not warp the image while the cursor is missing, or resize it for that matter...Please help?

Like I said, sorry if I'm posting in completely the wrong place. First time here and hopefully the last if I don't encounter anymore problems!

  • Question about Director Flash Components's TextInput

Hello, everybody! I used the Flash Components's TextInput in  Director 11.5,but there was a problem that when the TextInput in edit status the cursor is missing. And the TextInput still can be edited !  I want  when the TextInput in edit status the cursor shows. Please give me a hand, how to solve the problem. Thank you very much.

Yeah, this is the new 10.3. It installs a Preference Pane in Other in Sys Prefs. You can select a number of settings there. I basically allow it to do as little as possible, except for the update notification.
In storage, I would select "Block all sites from storing...." (That's the option to disable "Local Shared Objects," Adobe's cute euphemism for cookies. Until now, they have been hidden away in the Macromedia folder in your home folder>Library>Preferences where I've locked everything up, after trashing the Macromedia folder and getting a new one after visiting  http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_man ager07.html)
I can give you instructions for doing that. Post back if you want them. Not sure how effective the new Pref Pane is, especially now that I see it reset the default of "Allow sites to save...." and all the defaults. Maybe it only sticks from an admin account and I recently started running from a standard account, while using an admin account solely for authentication. I will have to look into that.
Definitely turn off Camera and Mic. In Playback check "Block all sites...."
