Because that is how all iOS upgrades are done. The device must first be erased. If you don't like the inconvenience then you are free to do nothing or continue to complain about it. It's your choice.

I have OS X on both my iPad and my new iMac. I purchased Pages for my iPad and my husband's iPad at least a year ago. All of my stuff on the iPad is stored in the Cloud. Do I have to purchase it again on the iMac? How do I get it to run on the iMac?

You should also be able to access your docs (even without the Pages app on your iMac) by logging into iCloud.com and using the Pages for iCloud beta app via your browser.

I recently changed my e-mail account. I had to reset my apple I.D. and password. All was fine, now when I attempt to login to install updates it shows my old I.D. I don't understand this because when I go into settings it shows my apple I.D. as my new one
I think what is happening is that you changed the email address for password recovery to the new one - the Appleid (and software "attached" to it) remain irrevokably linked to the id you purchased it with.

My 6 year old was playing on an app we have used for ages then last night i recieved numerous emails stating about $600 of in app purchases had been made! i dont know how this happened as my child does not know my apple i.d. password!
You can try contacting iTunes support and see if they give you a refund or credit for some/all of it : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchaes, Billing & Redemption.
To stop it happening again you can turn off in-app purchases on your iPad via Settings > General > Restrictions > In-App Purchases, and also in Restrictions change Require Password to 'Immediately' - the default is 15 minutes during which it doesn't need to be re-entered. -
Help, computer returned from being fixed, everything has been deleted. Can you import music from iPhone 4 into new iTunes (old iTunes deleted) without syncing phone.
My computer HDD did not crash only my external drive with the music files. I have not had to reinstall iTunes software. The iTunes libarary is still complete and shows the complete list of music. I have also ran Update iTunes Match and all of the music is on the cloud.
I cannot play the music from iTunes that is on the cloud, however the music I purchased from iTunes did download and it will plan from my computer.
The matched or uploaded music is what will not download and I can't find a command that allows me to download from Match.
Sorry if I'm not being very clear, however I do really appreciate your help and suggestions. -
Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 1.9 and 2.1 computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I cannot renew my MobileMe account, why? Is Apple incapable of keeping their old subscriber accounts active and still update their system? Maybe I should look into buying a PC in the future? I eagerly await your reply. Thanks
MobileMe is being terminated in two weeks. If you have files on your iDisk which are not also on your computer you need to be downloading them as soon as possible or you will lose them.

A number of sites keep on telling me that I have an old version of the browser and insist that I should upgrade it, despite the fact that I have Firefox 5.0. Now I've tried to add one of firefox apps and firefox site itself told me that I need to upgrade my browser because according to them I have 2.0!! I checked and doublechecked info in "about firefox" and it tells me I'm using version 5.0.

My newspaper downloaded. the download of jigzone puzzle created multiple copies of the puzzle in the same window. I went to safari to see if it was the jigzone website but it downloaded correctly. How do I get rid of the beta version I downloaded this morning or correct this problem. I closed firefox and restarted the computer (IMAX) and problem persisted.

How do I choose which movies to load into my ipad from my itunes library? Seems like everytime I sync, it loads up all the movies I have in my itunes library.
When connected to your computer's iTunes, select the iPad 'device' on the left-hand side of iTunes, and then on the right-hand side on its films/movies tab just select the films that you want to sync and then click the Sync button at the bottom.
