Danish/Norwegian/International sort orders

I am submitting this in both a Java JDBC and in a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 forum else where:
Scenario:
We have varcahr fields in SQLServer 2000 database at 8.00.760 that are getting some odd/different results:
Value we are trying to find is ZXYAA001
FIrst: SELECT * FROM objecttable where name like 'ZXY%'
Second: SELECT * FROM objecttable where name like 'ZXYA%'
Third SELECT * FROM objecttable where name like 'ZXYAA%
Collation sequence is Danish_Norwegian_CI_AS
When we do the search using JDBC we get returned:
In First we find ZXYAA001 as part of list..
In Second we do not find ZXYAA001 as part of list
In Third we find ZXYAA001 as part of list
We believe this is so because in Danish Norwegian the AA is treated as A with a ring over which I believe is described as A Ring and not as two A so when looking for LIKE ZXYA% it doesn't recognize the AA as being met by the ZXYA%
Is this what someone would expect.. Our users report it as an error but I am not sure that it is wrong based on the database language settings.
Does anyone know of anyway I can construct that to let it find the AA as really two AA without changing database languages/code tables. Is it that we are using the % and should be using something else.
I realize that this is probably going to be an issue for the SQL Server people and not JDBC but just thought I would take a chance... Any validation of above theories would be appreciated and definitely and solution.
What we are wondering is there someway to change this behavior with the query or some setting in JDBC.
Paul

Have you tried using a prepared statement and the setString() with SQL that looks like the following?
....where name like ?

  • Correct Sorting for Indices (Danish / Norwegian)

Using InDesign 5.0.4 and generqating Index for Norwegian cities using "Danish/Norwegian" sort order.
    I now get:
    Holmestrand s.110
    Hønefoss s.111
    Horten s.111
    Jessheim s.112
Note that æ, ø and å are distinct letters in our alphabet and comes after z, hence correct sort order is:
    Holmestrand s.110
    Horten s.111
    Hønefoss s.111
    Jessheim s.112
As of now, å comes out right, haven't tested æ (rare letter) but ø is considered equivalent with o, it is not!

Yup, this was certainly a complaint in CS3, but it isn't going to change in CS3 now that CS5.5 is the current release.
I don't know if the problem has already been fixed in a later version or not, but perhaps one of our scandinavian users knows.

  • Sorting Order for SAP Tables in DB2 database

    Dear Experts -
ISSUE: When an ABAP program selects data from the DB into an internal
table, it is changing the way the data is sorted. In other words, the
internal table data is in a different sort order than what is in the
DB. It is not working this way in all other non-production systems
    (DEV, QAS, SAX, etc).
Temporary solution for the programs that have been identified as
impacted: Use the ABAP Command 'sort' on the internal table.
Permanent solution needed : Since it is impossible to identify all
of the programs that will be impacted, we need PRD to work like DEV,
QAS, SAX, etc. when selecting data into internal tables. The data
should be in the same order as it is in the DB (sorted by the key).
ADDITIONAL INFO: DB2 storage disks crashed a day before. H/W team recovered everything. We are facing this only after the recovery.
    Thanks,
    Dinesh

can you please check in your code if the sql that is being sent has an order by clause .
Please let us know the SQL statements that is basically used to fill up the internal table.
When data is fetched from the database, it is not sorted always. Probably you had a clustered index on the tables and the clustering is not there now.

  • Sort order of text is not as expected

    Hi
I need to sort a characteristic by its medium text in BEX (3.5.). However, the sort order is not as expected: uppercase letters are sorted first when selecting ascending order:
    AAA
    AXZ
    Abc
    BBB
    Baa
    Bbb
But this only applies when I use language=EN. For other languages defined in our system (fx. DE), the sort order is ignoring the cases:
    AAA
    Abc
    AXZ
    Baa
    BBB
    Bbb
The user wants that texts is sorted like this.
I have read note 952625 on sort collation sequences. And now I wonder if
    a) The standard sort collation sequence for English is different from fx. German og Danish.
    b) We have a different setting somewhere (locale setup) that generates these differences.
Our BW system is technical 7.0, but most of our cubes are still 3.5 and also our BEX is still running 3.5.
    OS = AIX, Unicode systems=no. Database = DB6.
Best regards and thanks in advance for any reply

    Hi Martin,
Did you find the answer to your question? Do you know why it happened?

  • Sort Order: Case insensitive... move NULL to end of list

    Hello All,
I am trying to sort a set a values, and NULL is a possible value. In the report I am displaying the NULL as EMPTY (I cannot leave that as NULL). I was wondering if there is a way to display this 'EMPTY' value as the last element in the list.
I tried to append various ASCII characters in front of it, but nothing seems to work. Even is if enclose it in parenthesis, is does alphabetical sort.
Is there a work around ?
    Thanks for your time !

    Nemi, Deborah,
According to SAP Note 1200528 - Web Intelligence does not utilize special characters when sorting, this 'issue' is by design and not by design.
The following is a copy-paste from the note:
    Symptom
When attempting to sort a Web Intelligence document on a particular column, special characters such as "-" or "." are not respected.  For example, add the following into a database and then create a Web Intelligence report.
    a-Austria
    a-Austrailia
    a-Belgium
    a B-Argentina
    a B-Brazil
    a B-Egypt
When you sort this data in Web Intelligence it appears as:
    a-Austria
    a-Austrailia
    a B-Argentina
    a B-Brazil
    a B-Egypt
    a-Belgium
    Cause
This behavior is by design. For Enterprise XI Release 2, the Lexicographical order of the International components of Unicode has been implemented. This order sorts with respect to the language set for a data source.  This means that if we modify the sort order for English, other languages that we support will also have changes in their sort order.  In this case we must do our best to respect all the languages that we support.
For more information please go to http://icu.sourceforge.net/
    Resolution
To work around this behavior, complete one of the following:
    Workaround 1:
Create a formula on the field such as
    "=Replace([Col001];"-";" ")"
This will replace the - with a space although for this example the sort will be in the same "wrong" order, it will look much nicer.
    - or-
    Workaround 2:
    Create a custom sort:
    1. Select the section cell or table cells you want to sort.
    2. Click the down arrow next to the Apply/Remove Sort button on the Report toolbar then select Custom... from the drop-down list.
    Best,
    Srinivas

  • Display number of entries per sort order

    G'day all.
Does anybody know how I can display number of entries per sort order in
    ALV grid.
    i.e. ABC 2000
    2000
    2000
    3 (entries) 6000
    DEF 1000
    HIJ 2000
    2 (Entries) 3000
    5 (Total Entries) 9000

    Hi,
The way I did it I used "AT END OF " statement and added my amount to a
variable and then move my variable in work area and then modified your
internal table from work area transporting that field or depending on
your requirement that you need to add a separate line for totals append
the internal table which you are going to use it for first display. Then
    after the set_table_for_first_display I added the alv_build_sort
criteria. And call method alv_list->set_sort_criteria exporting the
    internal table i_sort.
    Cheers,

  • Sort order changes when copying found items

When I search for items in a library, they show up in the "show search results" window in the right order. But when I copy them to Pages, the sort order is changed. Any idea how to get them to copy in the correct order?

If you have other thoughts, I'd appreciate knowing about them, otherwise, thanks for the suggestion.
If I look in iCal, I can see nowhere to override the system level setting for the locale which is in System Preferences > International. Rightly or wrongly, I would conclude that iCal takes its locale from the International control panel.
Apple Pages does have an independent user interface for overriding the system level setting of the locale. This interface is in the Text Inspector > Language. But I am not aware that anyone has developed technical documentation for how this interface behaves.
The expected behaviour would be that if for a selected character string the user changes the language identifier from the system and document default to some other language identifier, then the sort order for that selected character string changes.
I discussed with Thomas Gewecke whether the user interface for language identification might not be made more explicit per standards. Not all 23 writing systems and 3 world scripts of the EU are included in the interface for language identification, but Deutsch is.
Try to tinker a bit with the controls in the International panel and the controls in the Text Inspector to see if you can find a setting that works. Whether software behaves as standards and specifications entitle one to expect is often a matter of trial and error.

  • Changing items sort order at MI04

    Hi, experts.
I have a requirement here, which is: I need to change the sort order for MI04´s items: instead of the standard sort order (which considers field ISEG-ZEILI as sorting condition), I´ll have to read another field from MARD and use it as sorting condition.
I´m already inserting an Enhancement into form RELEVANTE_POSITION, where I read data from MARD, create an auxiliar internal table similar to LISEG + my sorting condition field, and re-sort LISEG according to my aux int. table.
As I know that I shall have some extra work handling all the problems that those modifications may cause on futher execution of MI04, I would like to know if there is an alternative to this approach.
So, I ask you: have you ever had to do something like that?
    Thanks,

  • Internal Sales Order vs. Stock Transport Order

Our company (SAP ECC 6.0) currently uses STO's to transfer finished product from Mills to Distribution centers in various regions.  However, much of these Stock Transfer Orders are done for the purpose of Sales and thus our Sales assoiciates are entering these orders in the purchasing module.   These associates spend all thier time in a custom sales screens created for them and really don't like to go do the STO's in another place and try and manage them when they are not used to seeing things differently.
The Sales business has equested that we look into using Internal Sales Orders (& some sort of automated PO's on the other side) to transfer this material and for those plants to get Sales credit back for this material. They really would like to see Invoices for these sales as well (which they don't with STO's).
I would like to know everyone's opinion on using a Internal Sales Order/PO vs using a STO to transfer this product?   What Pros & Cons do you see and is it even possible to replace the STO's with Internal Sales Orders/PO's?  Thanks for your input!

The people entring the STO currently are all Sales associates who only want to deal with the sales module and not the purchasing module.   From a Sales perspective, they would also like to see invoices - they don't see invoices today with STO's.  They would like to do internal Sales Orders as opposed to STO's.  They've ask us to do analysis on what this would take.   We have been looking at creating the Internal Sales (ISO) and then doing some sort of subsequent "NB" Purchase Order.
    They're are several missing parts/questions that have come up with this research on doing ISO's / PO's vs STO's;
    (1) Stock in Transit - how is it tracked?
    (2) Auto generation of the PO from the ISO - system thinks the PO should come first if doing internal orders - however in our case demand comes in from many different sources and business would like to enter ISO first and then generate subsequent PO to receive against?
    (3) ATP - not "double-dipping" ATP from both Sales Order and PO?
    (4) Issues with invoicing (Intercompany invoicing causing a great deal of work for AP / Accounting to work through).  also if no invoice is expected for PO (depending on setting up vendor as external or internal) then we'll have open accrual on the GR?
    (5) Transit times in routes - when using external SO today, the date included represents the ship date with no transit times in the routesu2026STOu2019s have transit times included in their routes and its necessary for pipeline data to be complete?
Note: We have a system change request going in our system that will allow for sites to modify the price for STO's...and sites can transfer product at a negotiated rate.  Our system is also set up so each individual site records these STO's as a sale...thus one of the reasons for the request above for better tracking, etc.
Thanks again for any further input you may be able to offer.  Thanks!

  • Allow Sort Order to be configurable

Apparently, when I set Sort Order in Library (I like it as Captured Time), it is reset to the system-defined default of Added Order upon a new import. I'd like the preferred sort order to be either settable as a preference, or at least have the setting be "sticky" so that it stays at what the user sets it as until the user changes it. Thanks!
             Dilip

    Hello,
As you have discovered by default both dequeueing via a condition and dequeue via a correlation identifier have never honoured the sort order of the queue table.
You can get it to honour the sort order by setting the following event at the session or system level or in the spfile/pfile as follows
    alter session set events '10866 trace name context forever, level 1';
    or
    alter system set events '10866 trace name context forever, level 1';
    or
    alter system set event='10866 trace name context forever, level 1' scope=spfile;
Once this is set and a dequeue condition is being used an extra order by based on the sort columns of the queue table will be added to the sql which is executed internally.
So this could have an impact on the dequeue performance when using a deq_condition or dequeueing via correlation id but ultimately you will have the ordering you require.
    Thanks
    Peter

  • How to find Sort order in material master UOM

    Hi,
Can any one tell me how to find the sort order for unit of measurement for UOM in additional data tab in material master.
If you see the db table, its stored in another order other than how its displayed on the screen.
    Thanks,
    Sujith.

It appears that it is sorting on the MSEHI in the t006a. This is the internal representation of the UOM. It is doing the same in the material master, you just can't see the internal field there.    In my system here is how it is sorting.    The commerical is what you see in the material master, the internal is what it is sorted by.
    Internal     Commerical  Description
    A             A          A
    B45           QML        kmol

  • Album sort order PSE11 - is it by design ?

When experimenting with the sort order of albums in PSE11, I was surprised to see that in some albums, changing the sort order from 'oldest' to 'newest' did not produce any effect.
The reason of this probably lies in the menu /preferences/general :
If you have only pictures taken the same day, the above setting will still show 'oldest first' even you choose 'newest first' for album order.
I believe that the most used order is 'album order' and that the 'newest first' is very rare.
I can understand the option to browse 'oldest first within each day' when in 'newest first' in thumbnail view.
However, I wonder if that option makes sense to sort an album ?
    Was it by design ?
    If it were me...
I would not use that preference for an album,
    and...
I would add the option to sort by filename and caption.

Figured it out. I added "Various Artists" in the Album Artist field for every track and it then sorted them all together.

  • How do I get Iphoto to preserve the sort order when I transfer an album?

Here's my problem. I carefully sorted my album of 230 photos manually. Each photo was then numbered from 1 to 230.   Then I used IPhoto Library Manager to transfer this album someplace else -- to my desktop, to a thumb drive, to Dropbox---   In every case, when I did that, the photos themselves transfered just fine,  but the sort order I had so carefully constructed has fallen apart and cannot by retrieved. Even  when I  close and then reopen an Album I have transferred to my Desktop, it loses its sort order.  This is driving my crazy  because I need to transfer this album so that it preserves the slideshow I have designed for it. A slideshow, of course, demands preserving the order of the slides.
In short, how can I preserve the sort order of an album when I transfer it out of one library to another?

If you're transferring to another library, why are you exporting to the Finder (which is what Desktop, thumbdrive and DropBox are). This doesn’t understand manual sorting from iPhoto.
Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • Customize Internal Sales Order workflow to interface to AR

    Hi,
I would like to generate AR transactions for our internal sales orders created from internal requisitions. I tried by adding a ship-bill-workflow, but the interface-to-AR activity does not get started. This gives me the impression that the internal order ignores the workflow that I have defined for this transaction type, and uses something else instead.
I am wondering now how could I customize the internal order workflow? Has anyone ever done that? Which workflow shall we customize to get what we need? Or has anyone any other ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    David.

    Hi David,
Assuming you are using Order Organizer did you check which work is being invoked at the Order Line Level from Tools -> Workflow Status at Line level.
    Thanks.

    7. Issue is that out of 7 orgs, in 2 orgs, DK and SE, the internal sales orders didn't get created and order import gave error. I am attaching the error log below.
For other 5 orgs, ISO got created successfully and we performed picking/shipping and receiving as well for these 5 orgs.
