Dashcode Podcast Widget coding

I saw that Anomac had a problem with a Dashcode created widget, so I thought I would try:
I created an RSS feed with no problem, but I am less successful with the podcast one. When I use Run, it always comes up with the same fault:
"Object (result of expression load) does not allow calls" and refers to podcast.html, line 22
That line shows me this"
<body onload="load();" id="body">
so I guess that something is missing in the parentheses. Could anyone make a suggestion, please?

Hello G.M.C, I'm not familiar with enhanced podcasts or widgets but do you see any way to do something like this:
window.size.x = image.size.x
window.size.y = image.size.y
(or maybe canvas.size etc)

  • Widget coding

    Not sur where else to ask this, so I will start here. I coded a neat little widget to go to a specific website and pull a page. That works fine.
    But I want to be able to copy from the widget displayed page. When I mouse over and try to click the mouse over text the widget moves. I cannot get the widget to stay still and let me mouse over to copy.
    There are other widgets, like the sticky that comes with OS X, that allow this. But I have looked at that code and just must be missing something.
    How do you tell the widget that a "click and drag" is to copy some text and not drag the widget?

    Well, that was the wrong subpage link (but I cannot edit it now). But it is on that main page. For anyone else looking for widget coding, start here (the main page):

    I'm afraid I can't advise on this. You may do better to ask in the iTunes forum and I'll ask the Hosts to move this thread there.

  • Dashcode Web Widget - RSS feed only displays in Safari

    Created a simple web widget in dashcode (my first experience with it) and when I deploy to the web it only works correctly in Safari. The RSS feed does not display in Explorer or Firefox. Having trouble getting it work on a windows computer and across browsers...any ideas?
    http://www.divergingsoul.com/
    Thank You

    We were able to work around this by using jQuery to write the data we wanted into the RSS output into the "Item Description" field.  And we just didn't use the "Item Description" field in the detail page at all... it worked out pretty good for us...

  • Dashcode: RSS Widget Search

    Hello, I've been working with Dashcode, still a beginner, but I was wondering how to make a search field that will search my favorite site (evenmoremac.com)? Anyone?
    Thanks!

    Find a Widget (or more Widgets) that does what you want and search its code. It will help you to get started.

  • Dashcode RSS widget - cannot connect to RSS feed?

    Hi.
    I am trying to set up a new widget that reads the RSS from a wordpress page I have set up for news on my site, I have the widget set to go but I have a problem. When I run the widget to test it I get an error message that says the rss feed is invalid. The feed link is here: http://www.pembsmug.org/news/?feed=rss2 (wordpress set this automatically and it seems to work in firefox) and this is the URL I enter in to the feed URL box in dashcode.
    I wondered if i needed to add .rss to the end of the url so went ahead and tried it but it did not make any difference.
    Any idea what I am doing wrong? this is the first time I have ever made a widget so I may have missed something really simple :o)

    Type *tail -f /var/log/system.log* to check the /var/log/system.log log file while you are loading your Widget.
    You are looking for Dashboard related error messages.
    Good luck,
    Mihalis.

  • Is there any documentation on widget events in iBooks?

    I've seen very little detail on how to use edge published widgets in iBooks. The widget creation process is straightforward, but using them in an iBook is problematic. I have been testing the following work-flow:
    Export from Edge Animate to Widget
    Use iBooks Author to import the Widget
    Copy the book to an iPad via iTunes and test
    I've been using widgets created from the edge lessons to test this workflow. So far I've discovered:
    Widgets work more reliably if copied to the iPad though iTunes rather than by previewing them in iBooks Author.
    It's important to supply a poster image of the same size as the widget stage as this appears to determine the size the widget will be displayed.
    It's important to add touch events explicitly rather than click events.
    Problems remain however which I feel could be solved by creating javascript which responds to whatever events iBooks generates when opening and closing widgets. I can find no Edge documentation on this. Widgets published by the above simple workflow may work briefly, but stop working after a few pages are turned. Once widgets stop working - that's it. The only way to recover is to close the iBooks app and reopen it.
    Maybe this is a question for Apple, but I feel some pointers in the Edge documentation might help here.
    I have for example found this thread that talks about special widget opening events: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3696472?start=0&tstart=0
    There are some useful Apple docs here with sections on widget events.
    http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/AppleApplications/Conceptual/Dashboa rd_ProgTopics/Introduction/Introduction.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003042-SW1
    All good stuff, but it raises other questions like how to use some of the Apple provided widget libraries in an Edge widget? What code should be inserted to prevent the widget freezes that I see? Maybe a better workflow would be to develop in Dashcode, and add Edge Animations to the html of a DashCode maintained widget?
    Mike

    I don't know of any documentation off hand... but what are you trying to do? I haven't needed to to make a connection using the DriverClass....
    If you aren't using dynamicSQL... you can just catalog the database, and make direct sql calls (not recommended)... but if you catalog it, then just an INSERT command works... or UPDATE... etc
    logMessage "Starting insert."
    INSERT INTO MYTABLE(id, name) VALUES ("2", "kevin");
    logMessage "Finished insert."Check out the studio help under SQL Keywords for more info on that...

  • Dreaded "Not a Valid Widget" Error

    Hi Folks,
    I'm getting the dreaded "Not a Valid Widget" error when I try to import my Flash (Professional CS5) file as a widget into my Captivate 5 project. I've done my research on this problem, and found an earlier post from Vikranth regarding copying the AS3\static actionscript into the first frame of the Flash file:
                                                                          http://forums.adobe.com/message/3614964
    However, I'm not getting enough detail about exactly where to past this actionscript into Flash.
    Is this truly the fix? Even for the latest software fully updated?. If this is still the fix, am I going to have to do this every time I construct a Flash widget?
    Very much appreciate your help,
    Roger

    I think you may misunderstand. Installing WidgetFactory or any other API on your PC is not an instant fix for some issue in your widget coding.  I suggested that you go with an API because they are better documented than the Adobe templates and offer far more possibilities in the long run.
    To get the most out of the APIs you need to read the tutorials and documentation provided by their creators. Only then will you understand the differences in the templates, which use a framescripting approach to coding, versus the APIs, which use a class-based coding approach.  When using the APIs you do NOT use the Adobe templates at all to create widgets.  You begin your widget directly in Flash.
    Try these two tutorials first to get an idea of how it's done:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/widgetking/2010/11/building-widgets-in-flash/
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/widgetking/2010/11/sign-up-for-the-widget-eseminars/
    Flash and Captivate DO work together very well, but only if you know what you are doing.  What's currently wrong with your picture is that you need to learn a lot more about how widgets work and how they need to be created.  As your ActionScript 3 skills improve, so will your widgets.

  • DashCode and RSS

    I am taking a feed (feed://www.site.xml) and placing it in a DashCode RSS widget. It is not accepting it because it is not rss. Is there anyway to convert an xml feed to rss? Or is there a anyway for DashCode to read it?

    Des NY wrote:
    Disappointing that these two Apple products not working together. Nobody at Apple seems to have an answer either.
    They do work together. You can create a widget with Dashcode and export it for use in iBooks. But many of the Apple classes that implement the parts in the Dashcode library don't work in iBooks.
    For example, it is impossible to have a vertical slider in an iBooks widget if you use Dashcode. The Apple vertical slider class doesn't work because it relies on events that don't exist on an iPad. If you try to use a plain HTML 5 vertical slider instead, it doesn't work either because Safari doesn't implement the HTML 5 spec correctly. According to the spec, you should get a vertical slider if you set the width less than the height. However, when you do that, Safari renders a div that has the correct dimensions, but then places a very short horizontal slider inside the middle of the div.
    I would suggest to stick to your own JavaScript and plain HTML 5 as much as possible. But then, if you do that, there really is no point in using Dashcode. You can use any other HTML 5 editor just the same.
    The recommendation to use Dashcode probably stems from the fact that this is the only HTML authoring tool that is available from Apple (as far as I know). But no-one bothered to do any work on Dashcode to make it work correctly for iBooks.
    Michi.

  • Several Podcast issues - Explicit Tags, Logo not showing up...

    I've been trying for while to figure this out on my own. We are uploading weekly podcast from a talk radio show program:
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/sandwich-generation-radio/id412767680
    We are entering the podcast thru a WordPress Blog using a Podcasting Widget. However the podcasts are showing up as explicit when they are clearly not. They are entered as clean on the widget, why are they showing up explicity.
    Also I've tried to replace the generic cover with our logo as well as the author from unknown and iTunes does not accept these changes.
    Please let me know what other links or information I can provide.
    Cotell

    iTunes is looking for a feed at
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/SandwichGenerationRadioShowWrigglingInTheMiddle
    This is not a podcast feed - it's missing a number of vital tags, in addition to which the FeedValidator report throws up a number of serious errors which invalidate even as a non-podcast feed. As a result the Store is not updating and no-one can subscribe to your podcast.
    This suggests that you made some change after the latest episode shown on the Store page. Your site links to a feed at
    http://www.wrigglinginthemiddle.com/?feed=rss2
    The Feedvalidator report for this feed shows up some errors, but this feed can be subscribed to: however it's not the feed registered with the iTunes Store.
    It rather looks as if you have submitted an incorrect feed to Feedburner - from the look of it it may be that you've submitted the feed for the blog, not the podcast, but this is something you'll have to investigate.

  • Storage spaces - capacity penalty

    Hello Microsoft,
    I've built a test environment to decide whether the dual-parity is useable as a software raid solution.
    Test environment:
    - I've installed Windows 2012 R2 datacenter for this test and installed all updates on it
    - Added 8 more 20GB harddisks
    created a new storage pool:
    $s = Get-StorageSubSystem -FriendlyName *Spaces*
    $d = Get-PhysicalDisk -CanPool $true
    New-StoragePool -FriendlyName "Pool1" -StorageSubSystemFriendlyName $s.FriendlyName -PhysicalDisks $d
    get-storagepool "Pool1" results:
    AllocatedSize= 163208757248
    FriendlyName=Pool1
    HealthStatus=Healthy
    Size=165356240896
    RepairPolicy=Parallel
    Version=Windows Server 2012 R2
    WriteCacheSizeMax=107374182400
    SupportedProvisioningTypes={Thin, Fixed}
    created a new virtual disk:
    New-VirtualDisk -StoragePoolFriendlyName "Pool1" -FriendlyName "Pool1_Vd1" -UsemaximumSize -ProvisioningType Fixed -ResiliencySettingName "Parity" -PhysicalDiskRedundancy 2
    I see this when I type get-virtualdisk | fl
    (only relevant informations copied here)
    FriendlyName=Pool1_Vd1
    ResiliencySettingName=Parity
    OperationalStatus=OK
    HealthStatus=Helathy
    IsManualAttach=False
    Size=90GB
    LogicalSectorSize=4096
    NumberOfColumns=8
    NumberOfDataCopies=1
    ParityLayout=Rotated Parity
    PhysicalDiskRedundancy=2
    PhysicalSectorSize=4096
    ProvisionongType=Fixed
    Why do I loose ~44% of disk space for dual-parity ?
    For an equivalent RAID6 configuration this would be 25% only !
    ~20% difference is too huge to use this solution!
    Please explain !
    Is this a feature or a bug ?
    If this is a bug, then when will MS correct it ?

    Hello Shaon Shan,
    Thank you for your reply, I've already found that explanation. Although I do not agree with that in this concept from two aspects:
    1. if MS's single parity is the same as RAID5 then the dual-parity should have different naming, because in this form this is very missleading....
    2. I have just run over the following articles to try understand the background about this decision and explanation:
    h**p://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erasure_code
    h**p://searchstorage.techtarget.com/podcast/Erasure-coding-definition-RAID-5-RAID-6-are-most-common-forms
    h**p://www.computerweekly.com/feature/Erasure-coding-versus-RAID-as-a-data-protection-method
    If I understand well then this answer is not acceptable from MS, because the articles mention that the RAID5/RAID6 algorythms are already "erausre codings". If I understand well, then even with this solution if we use two columns
    as parity then the resiliency is two columns = disks for storage systems. But in this case the additional data capacity is still n+2, not n+3.
    Regards,
    Attila

  • Importing Flash swf

    Hello,
    I'm as new as it comes to Captivate. From what I've researched and seen, Captivate looks like an interactive Powerpoint that captures scores, answers, and responses,etc.
    Right now, I'm looking for an authoring program to help me use some of those abilities -- but also host the main interactivity that I've built into a flash swf.
    Before I go off and start programming, is it possible to embed a fully interactive .swf into Captivate -- or is this the wrong use and I should be attempting to rebuild that in Captivate? The program I'm going to build in Flash includes a time slider with simultaneous videos and animation.
    Are time sliders possible in Captivate? (A scrubbing bar back and forth)
    Thanks for your time.
    Kristin

    Everything you speak of is possible in Captivate, and it certainly does allow you to import SWFs created in AS3.
    Whether or not your program will work well with Captivate depends a lot on your programming abilities and how well you understand the Captivate architecture so that your app integrates well with it.
    It might be wise to consider building your app as a Captivate widget.
