Data Plan, my phone, when home,

linked to my home internet, my phone seems to still be using time on the data package.....any suggestions?  Is there a program I can download to see what is running on my phone in the background?
June I used less than 1 gb
July 2 gb
August....getting past 4gb.....

If Cellular data is turned off it is not possible for the device to use data.
While turning off Cellular data will stop it from using data, it doesn't correct whatever the initial issue was.
Also, if the phone is using Cellular data, then it is NOT connected to Wi-Fi.

  • Shared data plans not available when upgrading to iphone5

Last night I upgraded two 3G smartphone and a basic phone to iphone5's for all three of us.  Currently on shared unlimited data/text and 1400 min. shared voice.  The ordering process would not allow me to select the new tiered shared data plans.  It only made individual data plans available and these were combined with aspects of the old plan ($10/month access fee, 1400 shared minutes, etc.).  My chat with customer rep "Sunny" was inconclusive as he/she only stated that I couldn't order new phones and the new shared data plan all at once, but would have to order the phones and then switch the data plan after phones are activated (shipping 10/26).
Anybody else gone through this frustrating process?  Should I just wait until the iphone5's show up and try to switch plans then?  Or should I sit through the 30-45 minutes customer service hold time and try to resolve this now?
    Thanks.
    Ken

Ordering online usually doesn't allow for more than one change to the account at a time. You have to complete the upgrade in one step. Then once that is finalized in the account, then you can change to the Share Everything plans.
You might be able to complete both changes at same time if you ordered through customer service via phone.

  • Transfer Phone/Data Plan Between Phone Numbers

    Hello,
I have a Droid X with the promotional $15/month 150MB data plan. My wife is eligible for an upgrade, and we were thinking of getting her her first smart phone. She will definitely not be a heavy data user. We are under the same Family Plan.
What I would like to do is use her upgrade to purchase a new Droid Incredible 2 with the unlimited data plan. After doing so, I would like to transfer her phone and data plan to my phone number and vice versa (transfer my phone and data plan to her number).
I'm getting conflicting info as to whether or not this can be done. I've read a post on here that suggests this is possible, but I called Verizon and was told that it isn't. The CSR told me that since my data plan is promotional and no longer available, there is no way to perform the transfer.
Is this correct? Is there no way of getting the $15/month plan onto my wife's phone number (regardless of whether we switch phones or not)?
    Thanks.

Adding to what was stated in assisting mandms7, the $15.00 data plan is no longer available and not able to be transferred if you switch phones. If you change devices, you would be asked to select from one of the available data plans to replace the data plan no longer available. Also, if you upgraded your wife's featured phone to a Smart Phone by July 6th, 2011, you would have been required to select the unlimited data plan for $29.99. If upgrading after the 7th, then you need to select from one of the available data plans. Please use this link to be taken directly to the website to see the available data plans. There is also information available to help determine which would be the best data plan available. You could always switch phones online being logged into My Verizon. However, the selecting of the data plan would be needed at the time of switching your phones.

  • No data plan - camera phone w/ flash and qwerty keyboard

Is there a current list of all supported/allowed verizon phones that DO NOT REQUIRE DATA PLAN  &&  have camera and flash and qwerty keyboard?

I don't know how long this has been available; ebay now lets you submit a review for the cellphone you bought.
While sometimes the review is about the experience(s) with the seller, most of the reviews are for the cellphone itself.
Say you're looking for reviews for an LG enV2. Type "LG enV2" and the first lisiting is a summary of the current auction listings. Don't click on an individual ebay auction. Look at the last line of the summary -- it'll list how many reviews have been submitted. Click on that and then scroll about half way down the page to read the reviews.

  • How can you  automatically disable data on a phone when the user hits the limit?

One Verizon phone rep said she would take care of it for me.  Obviously that didn't happen so Verizon robbed me of $50 in overage fees.
Next Verizon store rep told me to go online and do it.  Still haven't figured it out.  So, anyone know the answer?
Not Thrilled at all with the amount of time I've spent trying to get this accomplished.

That gets trickier, you can install apps to monitor but stopping usage may require FamilyBase from Verizon at an additional monthly cost.

  • Droid X - Data plan required when you active a used phone with no new contract?

Since the droid X is an older smartphone, is a data plan still required when you active a used phone without signing a new contract?

    Droid X Launch Date: 7/15/2010
Deadline for smartphone release without data plan requirement: November 2008.
Verizon will not allow you to activate *any* android phone without data.

  • Why was I never offered Verizon Max 6gb (w/o edge) when I upgraded my phone from my unlimited data plan?

I upgraded my phone with a new 2yr activation in Jan 2014.  I was not offered the 6gb plan without "going edge" that many unlimited data plan customers got when they switched over.  I too had unlimited data and was grandfathered.  Is this because that promotion wasn't active yet?  I talked to my coworker who said she got hers upgraded from unlimited in september 2014 and was offered 6gigs for 30 bucks, and she's not on the edge plan. She upgraded at Target. I wonder if that makes a difference.  I am currently paying for 2 gigs at 30 bucks a month.

Mas5723, thank you so much for reaching out to us. I want to make sure that are you on the best fit plan for your monthly data usage. How has the 2GB data plan been working out for your usage? Are you seeing any kind of overages on the account? Please keep us posted.

  • Switching to an old Basic phone for a week.... will I lose my unlimited data plan?

I have a Droid Incredible. It sold on ebay sooner than anticipated. So I need to activate my old LG EnV until Jan 7th when I can upgrade to a new phone (because the Incredible will get shipped out first thing in the morning to my buyer, and I'll still need a phone for those 5 days in between!)
The LG EnV is not a smartphone. It does not require a data plan. Will my data plan get cancelled when I enable this phone? I have an unlimited data plan that I was grandfathered into. I don't want to lose it. When I get my Galaxy Nexus I plan to take advantage of my data plan!!! lol

Speaking from personal experience, my wife's Droid had become unuseable at one point and we had to activate an old dumbphone for her while waiting for the replacement.  I posed the question several times about the unlimited data and the rep on the phone made a note on my account. After we got the replacement, the unlimited data was back on, and I had a reference just in case.

  • List of phones that do not require a Data Plan?

I do not personally need a data plan since all I use with my phone is making calls and texting. I have been using the same phone for almost 4 years now but its all beat up and the battery life is going down and randomly dies down regardless if I do a full charge.
Is there a list of current verizon phones that do not require a data plan? I know almost all phones require a data plan but there are a few that don't. Looking for the "requires minimum data plan $9.99/$29.99 per month" under phone description is a bit time consuming plus I do not think Verizon lists on their website every phone that is available.
I perosnally would not mind the Alias 2 (a current phone that looks like it can pass without the data plan) but it looks like even that phone requires a data plan.
I can go on and on about how phone companies are having these charges to users but I guess we have no choice.. I feel bad for the older loyal customers who need to upgrade their cell phones and plans but have no use for data plans (due to generation differences, no offense but they would least likely need to check email, use the internet, etc.)

  • Unlimited Data Plan removed without my knowledge or consent. Verizon refuses to reinstate. Any suggestions? Please and Thank you.

I am desperately reaching out to anybody that may be able to help me with this situation.
I don't want to give up hope, but I feel that it may be a battle that I cannot win.
    This is my story...
A few years ago, my iPhone 3G was stolen. At that time, my spouse and I both had Unlimited Data plans with Verizon. Fortunately for me, my in-laws had an old flip phone that I could borrow until I could afford a new iPhone. So, I took the newly inherited flip phone to my local Verizon Wireless store to have it activated. I didn't really want to use the flip phone, but beggars can't be choosers and I was just glad to be able to make and receive phone calls again. I told the nice folks at the Verizon store what happened, and they assured me that they could activate the flip phone so that I could use it. "Yes, sir. We can activate this phone for you. No problem."  So, I gave them the flip phone. They activated it and told me that I was "Good to go."
A little over a month later, I was able to save up with enough money to buy an iPhone. So, back to the local Verizon store I went. They showed me a variety of phones, but I was already pretty set on an iPhone. I bought the new iPhone, and they activated it for me. It was all pretty straight forward and easy.
With my new iPhone in hand, I left the store and everything was back to normal.
Many months later, I get a text from Verizon telling me that I only had 2% of my data plan left to use. This really struck me as odd. How could that be? How does someone figure out what 2% of unlimited is? I really couldn't wrap my head around the math needed to calculate percentages of limitless values, so I decided to call Customer Service.
After several calls, I was finally able to piece together what happened. And, it started as soon as I stepped into the Verizon Wireless Store...
    1. When the people at the store activated the flip phone, the activation automatically downgraded my data plan from, Unlimited to 2GB, because the flip phone simply did not require a data plan. NOBODY told me that this was going to happen... NOBODY. Had I known that I was about to get stripped of my Unlimited Data Plan, I never would've agreed to it. Who in their right mind would???
    2. It went unnoticed for over 30 days. I was told that I took too long to catch their mistake. (I say "their" mistake because if you're going to change something on my account on that large a scale, "they" need to tell "me" about it first.) And, because I didn't catch it within 30 days, I could not have my data plan returned to me. They actually told me that if I had only caught it sooner, then I would be able to have it back.
    3. Because I didn't even know that my Unlimited Data plan was even in jeopardy, I bought a new phone. And this is where it gets kinda tricky...
When I bought the new iPhone, I asked them... I asked them if my data plan was going to have to change. They told me "No.", and that "Everything would stay the same." Which, is somewhat of a semi-truth. And, it's also one of the main reasons why I am not being given back my old Unlimited Data plan. See, when I asked them if my data plan would stay the same, I was referring to my Unlimited Data plan. (At this point and time, I had no idea my Unlimited Data Plan was already gone.) So, when they told me that I would keep my data plan, it because they were looking at a screen that told them that I had a 2GB data plan. To them, I was going from 2GB to 2GB. To me, I had Unlimited, and was keeping my Unlimited.
    4. To make matters worse, Verizon keeps telling me that I can't have my Unlimited Data Plan back because I bought a new phone at a non-retail price.
I WOULD GLADLY PAY THE DIFFERENCE OF THE PHONE COST to have all of this fixed. $300? $400? Maybe even $500? I honestly would fork over that money in a heart beat. I only bought that phone because I was told in the store that my plan would not change.
Any Customer Service Rep can look up my history and see that what I'm saying is true. I've even had a  very nice Customer Service Rep offer to upgrade my 2GB Data Plan to 6GB AND send me a free iPhone 5c to go with it! But, I did not want to give up the fight.  My spouse still has the Unlimited Data Plan, but uses a non-4G- LTE phone for fear of losing the unlimited data to the upgrade. Even, I, have avoided upgrading for a long time because I didn't want to lose my plan.
Turns out the joke has been on me this entire time. I haven't had my Unlimited Data Plan for 3 years now.
I honestly don't feel like I've done anything wrong here.
I'm at a complete loss now, and have no idea what to do next.
I'm open to any, and every suggestion that someone may have.
    Thank you.

A few years ago, my iPhone 3G was stolen Verizon never had the iPhone 3G. Are you sure it wasn't the iPhone 4 or 4S? Thank you for pointing this out. I did have an iPhone. It was with Verizon. It must have been an iPhone 4.. At that time, my spouse and I both had Unlimited Data plans with Verizon. Fortunately for me, my in-laws had an old flip phone that I could borrow until I could afford a new iPhone. So, I took the newly inherited flip phone to my local Verizon Wireless store to have it activated. No problem." So, I gave them the flip phone. They activated it and told me that I was "Good to go." Seems that what you asked for was accomplished. Yes and No. Did they activate it? Yes. Did they inform me as to how this would impact my account? No. Let's say you  ask for a glass of water to drink at a restaurant. Can they bring you the water? Sure they can. Is that waiter obligated to tell you that it had E Coli in it? Well, as long as he brought you the water, what you asked for was accomplished, right?
A little over a month later Exactly what month and year was this? This all took place mid-2011. “This” took place in August, I believe.  I was able to save up with enough money to buy an iPhone. So, back to the local Verizon store I went. They showed me a variety of phones, but I was already pretty set on an iPhone. I bought the new iPhone, and they activated it for me. It was all pretty straight forward and easy.

    1. When the people at the store activated the flip phone, the activation automatically downgraded my data plan from, Unlimited to 2GB, because the flip phone simply did not require a data plan. Going from a smartphone to a flip phone would have dropped the data off completely not to the 2GB plan. Yes. You are correct. I was told differently by Customer Service. But, what you are saying makes more sense. NOBODY told me that this was going to happen... NOBODY. Had I known that I was about to get stripped of my Unlimited Data Plan, I never would've agreed to it. Who in their right mind would???

When I bought the new iPhone, I asked them... I asked them if my data plan was going to have to change. They told me "No.", and that "Everything would stay the same." They answered your question. If you asked would your plan change and they told you no then did have unlimited at the time. I’m having a difficult time understanding your English here. If I understand it correctly, then I've already stated that they answered my question. It's actually right... Which, is somewhat of a semi-truth. And, it's also one of the main reasons why I am not being given back my old Unlimited Data plan. See, when I asked them if my data plan would stay the same, I was referring to my Unlimited Data plan. (At this point and time, I had no idea my Unlimited Data Plan was already gone.) To me, I had Unlimited, and was keeping my Unlimited.Being more specific and asking if you would keep your unlimited plan this could have been addressed at the time of purchase. There should be some standard as to how business is conducted in situations like this. I would like to think that if someone knew that my plan would be changed, then they would've at least had the courtesy to tell me about it. Granted, I could have been more specific. At the same time, though, I’m not going to ask every waiter that brings me water if there was E Coli in it.
    4. To make matters worse, Verizon keeps telling me that I can't have my Unlimited Data Plan back because I bought a new phone at a non-retail price.

Turns out the joke has been on me this entire time. I haven't had my Unlimited Data Plan for 3 years now. Wait...you bought the iPhone to replace the flip phone 3 years ago and you never used more than 2GB of data in this time? I did eventually get to that point. That’s what prompted the phone calls to Customer Service. I don't get it. When did you put the flip phone on July 2011 and when did you get the iPhone to replace the flip phone. August 2011 and have you had any new phone since then? Yes, just last month. I purchased a used iPhone 5 from someone.
I honestly don't feel like I've done anything wrong here.
I'm at a complete loss now, and have no idea what to do next.
I'm open to any, and every suggestion that someone may have.

    I have just got a Blackberry curve 8520. I'm on o2.
I haven't got a plan that includes data, so was wondering how I can use my Blackberry internet over wifi.
Under mobile network settings I've disabled data services, so I don't get charged for data without me knowing.
I've also changed my browser configuration to Hotspot browser, and its found my Wireless network okay and saved.
However when I go on browser, It just keeps coming up with unable to connect to the internet.
    Am I doing anything wrong?

I dont have a data plan (work phone) and can get internet through wifi, and have done so without any issue.
check 'Menu', 'Manage Connections', Wifi is ticked, with network name in Green
check your using Hotspot Browser, (you did say this, I know).  So it definately says Hotspot Browser at the top of the browser when open rather O2 Active (or similar)
I'll keep looking to see if there are any settings I can find which could help

  • Does Ipad - 2 require its own data plan

Does an ipad 2 require its own data plan?

Yes - if it is a 3G iPad. Each 3G device requires its own data plan. You do not have to activate a data plan - you can just use the WiFi and get a data plan if and when you need it.

  • Only need data network not phone

Is there a cheaper plan if I only need the data network for web use?

The iPhone's unlimited data plan is for web use or I should say for internet access with AT&T's EDGE network.
There is no cheaper plan. The minimum is $20/mo which is unlimited and includes 200 SMS.
If you compare this to other unlimited data plans for phones in the "Smart Phone" category, this is by far the least expensive out there.
