Dataguard swithover_status "failed destination" issue

oracle version: 11Gr2
I have a RAC which has two nodes(node1, node2) as primary and a single instance(named DR) as standby. I didn't realize that node2 is down when I did a switchover test. Now the swithover_status of node1 is "to primary", the switchover_status of DR is "failed destination".
There are some logs in alert.log:TNS-12543:TNS:destination host unreachable. caused by node2 is down.
My question is how can I fallback to RAC as primary without node2 running? What configuration need to do?

When you perform switchover, the only one node of primary and one node of standby should up, remaining will be closed[down]
There are some logs in alert.log:TNS-12543:TNS:destination host unreachable. caused by node2 is down.So can you try to ping the node2 host? are you able to ping or not?
If this node completely decommissioned, then you can set CLUSTER_DATABASE to FLASE and then you can proceed.
My question is how can I fallback to RAC as primary without node2 running? What configuration need to do?First check the switchover_status and database_role from v$database from primary and standby database.

  • Switchover_status "FAILED DESTINATION" on both primary-standby databases

    Hi,
I setup primary-standby databases and try to test the switchover functionality between them using the following commands:
    alter database commit to switchover to primary with session shutdown;
    alter database commit to switchover to physical standby with session shutdown;
    Currently, both DBs are showing
open_mode= READ WRITE for "select open_mode_from v$database;" and
    switchover_status = FAILED DESTINATION for "select switchover_status from v$database"
When both databases get into these states, how can I return them back to primary and standby roles? Could you please provide me a sequence of steps that I can execute to return them back to normal primary-standby states?
Thanks in advance for your suggestion.

The OS is Red hat 4.1.2-500.
    Oracle version is 11g.
Here is the sequence of steps that lead to this issue:
    1. switchover_status on primary = to standby, switchover_status on secondary = not allowed
    So on primary, I execute
    alter database commit to switchover to physical standby with session shutdown;
and could be shutdown/startup mount ( I don't remember exactly)
    2. switchover_status on secondary = to primary
    So on secondary, I execute
    alter database commit to switchover to primary with session shutdown;
    alter database open;
    3. Now on secondary, the switchover_status = FAILED DESTINATION
    On primary, I execute
    alter database commit to switchover to primary with session shutdown;
and could be "alter database open" ( I don't remember exactly)
The switchover_status in step 1) and 2) above should indicates that the data guard is working. At the end of the above steps, I cause both databases to get into switchover_status = "FAILED DESTINATION".
I hope to get one of the DBs back into standby role.
If I execute "alter database commit to switchover to physical standby with session shutdown", I will get
"ORA-16416: No viable Physical Standby switchover targets available"
In this situation, is there any recommendation for rescue?

  • Hard Drive dead? - Failed to Issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts.

Hello, i think my 13" 2.53Ghz Unibody (mid2009) MBP's hard drive has had it's last spin. I was using it normally in bootcamp, when windows7 froze, so I rebooted holding the power button....windows wouldnt start any more...ok, so i tried to boot into OSX...stuck at the loading screen with the apple.
Went into verbose mode and it stops at "Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing..." Google says this has to do with the hard drive.
Did a extensive hardware test (boot + D), all OK, booted from install disk and tried to run disk utility, but it crashed when trying to locate the drives (didn't even list the drive on the right pane). Single User mode wont load either, will give the same COM RESET message. I am literally out of options here.
Is there something i can do to either fix this or verify 100% that my hard disk is truly dead?
I have a backup in timemachine so the data is ok, but the timing couldnt be worse, i have no time to fix this now and needed a working laptop, highly frustrating.
    thanks for any tips

    Welcome to the Apple Forums!
Your HDD is probably dead, since the error doesn't appear to indicate something wrong with the motherboard. Just buy a new 2.5" HDD. I don't know about prices in Brazil, but here in the US, a 1TB drive runs for around US$100. Also, check on eBay for people who upgraded their drive and are selling their Apple drive. Some will ship to Brazil, and you can score those for $50-100.
I hope you backed up your hard drive. If not, you'll have to do the whole reinstallation process.

  • IMac error: Failed to issue COM RESET

After my iMac got slower en and freezed i tried resetting the Pram and in single user mode i did *fsck -fy*
then i get the following error:
*Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing...*
after that nothing worked anymore!!! only the Windows vista partition worked for a day or two. is this a harddrive failure something worse?

I believe posting relevant facts is productive, & a very relevant fact here is that you are trying to use a drive with an interface (SATA-II) that Apple does not currently support in its laptops.
SATA-I controllers are supposed to be compatible with SATA-II drives, but many of them are not. The problem is how some controllers implement auto negotiation, which is supposed to tell the drive to fall back to SATA-1 speeds with the slower controllers. Some SATA-II drives have a jumper to force the slower speed if auto negotiation doesn't work; some do not.
How this compatibility problem came about, & why the jumper is required, is complicated but the short version is that at least four different specification bodies had some responsibility in producing SATA specifications, & not all controllers were designed to the same standards. This includes not just the controllers Apple has been using but those in many PC's as well.
So I agree that Apple dropped the ball, but not necessarily the way you might think: it should have made it very clear that the firmware update implemented an unsupported interface speed, that it might cause problems, & (most importantly) provided a reversion strategy to the former firmware if it did.
Hopefully, Apple will take another 'swing' at this & either provide that reversion strategy or a new update that at least allows the controller to work more reliably with the faster interface. But until then, unless your drive has the jumper, my previous suggestion is probably the best you can do.
BTW, none of the current mechanical drives available for laptops can saturate a SATA-1 bus except for brief bursts from the drive's buffer, so the real loss in performance of running a single SATA-II drive at SATA-1 speeds is almost negligible, something you might notice in a benchmark but not in real-world use.

  • Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing...

Just in case anyone else has this problem, and wants to claw their eyes out.
I upgraded the Hard Disk in my MacBook Pro about four days ago (the new MBP, summer 2009 with SD card). I installed a Hitachi Travelstar 7K320. It worked awesome for about four days, until I went to run the EFI Firmware Update this morning.
My machine stopped booting. I held Command-V to get the verbose boot output, and eventually got the message: Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing... - which is where the boot halted.
I removed the Hitachi and restored the stock drive, and the laptop now booted fine. I think it's something Apple will have to look into.

  • Open hub destination issue

    Hi,
In our project we have Client Instance (eg: BWPD) and Application server (eg: BWPRD) defined for load balancing.
We have created open hub and assigned destination server BWPD.
When i execute the DTP manually in BWPD, it runs succesfully.
However, the same DTP when placed in the process chain fails with error message :
    No Such File or Directory
Could not open file D:\usr\sap\BWPD\A01\work\Material on application server
Error while updating to target ZXXXX.
    Options Tried:
Schedule process chain in the background server BWPD (same server which has been mentioned in Open hub dest) still DTP failed.
Tried with Application server it failed.
Tried with HOST as option it failed.
couldn't make out what is going wrong. Any thoughts ?

  • Rescue and Recovery failed destination network location can no longer be reached

W510, running Windows 7 Pro SP1,  updated with ThinkVantage including BIOS 1.37 along with Rescue and Recovery 4.31 yesterday. Using Backup locations "Local hard drive" had not problem, but when it was set to "Network", it gave me "The backup failed because the destination network location can no longer be reached.". Prior to running RR, I manually mounted the shared drive on W510 and could read and write files. The user that mounted the shared drive was not "Administrator" but has Administrator privilege. The network shared drive was a folder on an Windows XP SP3 computer. The shared drive had Full Control granted to Everyone as well as for Sharing. I rebooted W510 before starting RR. After the "network location can no longer be reached" error popped up, a long while later, RR actually wrote some files in the shared drive and then finally it aborted. It created on the shared drive RRBackups\SZ\<UUID>\... (among other folders and files); under <UUID> there's a common\rr.log with:

    The events don't make sense:
    a) Why would RR says "network location can no longer be reached" - the wording suggests that it was OK, but now it isn't.
    b) The br_funcs returns Error 0x501 (NOT_IMPLEMENTED or NOT_SUPPORTED), but RR still attempted to call mapdrv.
    c) Apparently mapdrv was successful otherwise it shouldn't try to delete the t0.dat on the shared drive (which didn't exist - hence Error 3 (PATH_NOT_FOUND)) and unless it has reached the remote computer, it wouldn't know the file wasn't there.
I'm curious to find out if anyone has run into this problem and how to fix it.

It errored out after it has already created some folders and files as indicated in the first post.Tried the same steps several times just make sure it was repeatable by closing Rescue and Restore app and starting it again. The network between the share host and my W510 was a direct RJ45 cable connection, so zero hop.  In the end I used Windows 7 Backup and Restore to do full backup, using the same \\server\sharename, the network share was mapped without a problem. But then Windows 7 Restore CD wasn't able to map network share - giving me 0x800704cf. Googling shows lots questions raised on this but no fix.
    Update:
Last night, I gave it a shot again. For some reason, RR was able to mapped the network share using \\IPaddress\sharename (this time I used a different folder and a diferent sharename). OK great, but after 10 hrs it's at 88% completion, did my math, estimated elasped time is 12 hrs, Wow! The image backup with Windows 7 Backup took 5 hr 51 min with 132GB in the WindowsImageBackup folder. RR is 2x slower!
On the other hand, as it's still running, the est. backup folder size is 106GB. RR does a better job in compression - a 20% reduction in size compared with Windows' at the cost of 2x time.
Going back to the Windows 7 Restore CD 0x80704cf error when mapping the network share, found an Internet user posting that he succeede by providing a NIC driver.

  • Export to PDF- Colour Setting-------Convert to Destination Issue

Have recently synchronized all colour management in adobe CS, after creating new output destination profiles for printing press. All seems well and good when photoshop files are in an kept in RGB with original source profiles. They convert to destination CMYK profile successfully.
However if any of the images are in CMYK with a profile embedded, the end PDF does not convert these to new profile.
According to the info that appears in pop up info when you hang cursor over 'Convert to Destination(Preserve numbers' on the export options for PDF, it says that any image with a profile will be converted to destination.  This does not seem to be happening, its almost as if the image has not got a profile attached, in which case it should then preserve numbers. I went back to double check file to see if this was the case, but the profile is definitely embedded. The only thing that rings slight alarm bells is that i the link info  for profile in Indesign, it says NA (Not Applicable).
Can some prepress work flow expert and colour management guru please help.

Doh!!! I am about to answer my own question, I have resolved this issue.
In my colour settings in indesign  in the CMYK box in the Colour Management Policies
I had 'Preserve Numbers (Ignore linked profiles)' checked. I have now changed this to 'Preserve embedded'
I get it now! I was afraid to use preserve embedded in case it did not change on the destination. It seems it does. I got the terminology the wrong way round.  I hope this has helped somebody else other than me.
    Thanks all!!

  • Strange MIDI Destination issue.

Hmm, how can I even start by explaining my situation. Please bare with me
I started a song two years ago when I still had a Virus and an Oxygen 8. I had those set as External Instruments. Under the External Instrument pop-up box, under MIDI Destination, I had created the Virus & Oxygen 8 under GM Devices. It somehow replaced GM Devices or perhaps renamed it? Anyway, everything worked fine for the past 2 years until I got rid of the Virus and Oxygen. I plugged in my old microKorg hoping the MIDI notes that I drew on the instrument line for the virus would just play the sounds from my microKorg. There it seems to me that the MIDI notes I drew aren't triggering back to my keyboard.
Now, though I can record what I'm playing on my microKorg to the track where my Virus use to be, but it won't play back the notes I recorded.
I'm guessing somehow I need to get rid of my Virus and Oxygen in my MIDI Destination list and bring back my GM Devices list? The song I have is much too layered for me to start a new file.
Any help would be great. Thank you.

Logic has no clue what instruments are connected via midi, it's just sending out notes on ports and cables you have chose to label Oxygen and Virus. You can label your instrument Elton John's CP70, and Logic doesn't know the difference.
I'm wondering if your current keyboard is the problem. Have you checked the midi settings? Is the keyboard set to the correct channel? Is it a local on/off issue? Or a bank select issue? or a Multitimbral issue, such as solo turned on, multi off etc. Is the keyboard plugged into exactly the same interface and port as the virus was 2 years ago? Is the little light on your interface showing data going out to the keyboard?
    Try this troubleshooting method:
    1. Set a loop in logic to repeatedly play a section with midi notes from 2 years ago. Solo that track. Check the meters in the mixer to make sure something is happening on that track.
    2. Watch your midi interface. Is the little light flashing to show midi data being received?
    3. Set your keyboard to multitimbral OFF. Check the channel number on the solo track in Logic. Set your keyboard master channel to that channel.
    4. Check the channel volume settings on your keyboard. Once in multitimbral OFF does playing the keyboard still make a sound?
    5. Find an old gm module lying around and plug your midi out from interface cable into that module instead of the keyboard.
    6. This will sound stupid...but can work. Switch your in and out cables on both the keyboard end and the interface end. You know the one going into the interface works, but maybe the other one went kerploooey.
Remember, logic can route out to many ports and cables, which need to be set correctly by hand. But midi in is automatically accepted on all ports and cables (theoretically.) So it's not surprising that midi in is not giving you troubles, but midi out is much more finicky.

  • RFC Destination issue

    Hi
I am facing an issue  while providing destination for RFC function module.I dont know  how to get the destination.
Many of friends suggested me that we can get it through SM59. As I dont have authorisations for SM59,I could'not do.
Is there any table or other alternate??
    I have one more doubt,
Say suppose my RFC function module exist in R/3  development system and I am calling it from SCM  development system. assume  that destination for R/3 development system is DA4200.When  we move our calling program and R/3 RFC function module  to Quality system, destination will be changed. For quality system destiantion would be QA4200. How can we achieve it  programatically?/
do we need to pass RFC destiantion dynamically?/ if  yes? how ?
Please reply me. It is an urgent
    thanks
    Rama

    Hi Rama,
We have to define the RFC Destination at the time of Function Module Call.

  • CityOfVienna Podcast - Submitting RSS fails, CoverArt Issue

    hi folks,
the city of vienna wants to offer some podcasts. but it seems, that we´re caught in the cover art issue. Submitting the RSS-Link via iTunes-Client fails. ErrorMessage. (Podcast Art Cover has to be 600x600...)
So, we have a 1400x1400 PNG, with RGB and below 500kb. Despite that, we´re getting the error.
After 10 different tries, we´re now stuck in this problem. We appreciate any help. Thank You.
    Best,
    Michael

The usual issue is where an itunes:image tag exists but the image is a small one (despite the error message sayingr 600 x 600 they are now demanding 1400 x 1400). They didn't appear to be compaining if there was no image, only if it was too small, so I don't know why you are getting a rejection. I can only suggest creating the tag and trying again.

  • IPhone 4s Update Failed - Backup Issue

    Hi there,
I decided to update my iPhone 4s today to the 6.1.3 update, but I got an error saying that there was some kind of issure and my iPhone was in DFU mode. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it seem to of sorted it out but it was syncing whilst I was trying to set it up through the phone, which created 2 new backups. The phone has set itself up now with my old apps but nothing else is on the phone AND I can't seem to update from my previous backups I did before I did the iOS update. They have been overridden as I have checked the MobileSync folder. I did my intital backups before the iOS update at around 12PM and the only 3 updates in the folder are; 1:20PM (1.3GB), 1:27PM (7.07MB) and 1:42PM (7.07MB).
It's not allowing me to pick the 1:20PM backup which I'm guessing has most of my data in so how can I get around this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

    Update to this.
I've tried to use a backup extractor and the backup is corrupt. Luckily I've still got all my photos and videos as I back them up regularly but I've lost all my contacts, texts, user data etc.
This wouldn't be the first time this has happened to me or other people and I know that's no ones fault here but I hope Apple has a team that scouts these forums regularly to take note of issues. The update process needs to be more fail-safe and people need to be aware on backup overwriting and so on. These phones and devices aren't cheap and I know they make a good amount of profit off them so they could inject a bit of that in to changing this daunting and unavoidable process.
