DB2 Memory High in SAP

Hi Team,
We have allocated 82 GB memory for SAP production database DB2. Database always occupied more than 98% always. Please let us know which db2 process occupied more memory.

  • How to analyse the main memory usage in SAP ERP systems?

    Dear expert,
I'm doing a research work about analysing the main memory usage in SAP ERP systems.
I would like to find out what is load in buffers and when. That means, which process have the control of these memories and which are always performing something, tables loaded, and so on. Becuase I tried to isolate the space needed by a simple webservice call (create one material) in my test system, but even after a $SYN there are something stored in the buffers. I use a BAPI to avoid the execution of the SAPGUI and its repercussion in the system (I know the BAPI called uses resources too, but when I run this BAPI to get the statistics, it's like ST02, I get different values). Could someone help me or recommend something specific to read? Thanks a lot in advance.

    Dear expert,
Thanks a lot for your answer. The point is now that I want to isolate the memory used by a webservice that I call, I mean, I would like to know how many memory is this webservice using in each buffer. And could you tell me where could I read something about the order that things happen in SAP System when a webservice is called (always memory related), that's which steps are done to store data in buffers and so on. Thanks in advance.

  • Installing SAP ERP on DB2 with high availability

    Hey Gurus,
currently we're installing SAP ERP 6 EHP 6 based on DB2 for unix and windows, this is done using the high availability option on AIX 7.1 and IBM's power HA.
    We have the following architecture:
              Node A:
1-A host for ASCS, ERS and CI.
2-A host for the DB instance.
The same with node B replacing CI with DI.
Please advise on how to proceed with installation.
Also I need a bit of clarification regarding how to share (or export) the file systems between the hosts of the same node so that the CI can and DB can be connected, since as far as I know the DB installation will ask for the profile directory through the installation, while the CI will ask to see the db file systems as well as the db instance.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Ahmed,
    For your query
Also I need a bit of clarification regarding how to share (or export) the file systems between the hosts of the same node so that the CI can and DB can be connected, since as far as I know the DB installation will ask for the profile directory through the installation, while the CI will ask to see the db file systems as well as the db instance.
Please refer installation guide sections related to file system planning.
Here you can see the file system directory structure as well as information on which filesystems to be shared.
Attached are some screenshot for reference
    Hope this helps.

  • In Memory DB for SAP PI to make it faster

I have left the PI space many years back .
but I remember that a lot of resources are wasted for all the database write /commit operations including writing to the DB for each step in the pipeline . The DB's were disk based DB like oracle or MS SQL , or DB2 where read write is slow as its disk based . Recently In memory DB are making waves , for example SAP HANA . which is a column based DB ( instead of row based DB), but tables can be created and data written as row based operations also.
The primary premise of this In memory DB is that the ENTIRE data resides on the RAM so the access to the read/write to the data is extremely fast. These systems has RAM in order of 512 GB to 2 TB.  Since RAM is volatile (i,.e lost when there is power loss) . The entire IN MEMORY data is written periodically to SSD's for backup snapshots .
I believe that PI should move to in memory DB instead of disk based DBs. Then the pipeline steps would superfast amongst other speedups.
and oh, PI should totally drop its ABAP stack , and perhaps also rewrite and refactor its JAVA only stack to make it more lightweight .
    rishi

    Hi Rishi,
you should write that in a blog and not just in forum post...(*) coz in 2 days your suggest will be "lost", get down in this vertical queue which is the forum page...
(*) unless it's what you have forecast to do.
    Regards.
    Mickael
P.S: to be honest, for me, this info is too bottom layer (database vs memoryDB).

  • How to use the memory efficiently in SAP systems?

    Hi All,
We are using  suse linux X86_64 bit OS
All the instances are present in distributed environment. Eg we have one DB,1 ASCS(Message server and Enqueue), 1 PAS and 1 AAS
In CRM there are 100 end users are there.
Database is also 64 bit (Oracle)
    Ram size is 32 GB.
    CPU is:4
    Theoretically I know that the
RAM:Virtual memory should be 1:2 ratio
How to find the Virtual memory size in the existing system If it is a freshly installed means then how can we estimate it?
How to find the SWAP size allocated in the existing system If it is a freshly installed means then how can we estimate it?
How to find the size of virtual memory is allocated for the live SAP system and DB? And explain how to calculate if it is a freshly migrated system?
How to find the size of RAM is assigned to SAP and the same for DB?
If anything is increased in sap level like work process why should we need to increase the process and sessions in oracle and how?
Kindly help to me to find the solution for this questions?
    Thanks,
    Priyanga G

Do you see the search functionality in the upper left of the screen?
Okay, now type in ecatt, press enter and in the next screen filter on blogs.

  • Db2 license expiring in SAP Dev system

    hello All,
Im new to DB6 database and we are experiencing db2 license expiring.
What logs should I first investigate and and what SAP tcode can help me with this aside from SM21.
Thanks and hoping for your kind feedback.
    kharlos

    Hi,
From SAP, I am not sure but from OS level, you can easily check it.
You can check Alert Logs in DBACOCKPIT transaction, from there I think you will get some information.
    Thanks

  • Memory Management of SAP HANA

    Hi All,
I went through one of the documentation in SAP HANA Memory management .
    http://www.saphana.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/2299-2-12806/HANA_Memory_Usage_v2.pdf
This gave me a really good understanding about the Memory management of HANA . Queries for Used and Resident memory and comparison with Overview tab numbers
I had few questions , Which was almost answered in other discussed in one :
But i still have few questions about  Resident and  used memory
Used Memory : Code + Tables + DB Managment
Resident :  what is the formula or content ?
What does this picture refers to ?
Infact the below statements are bit confusing
When memory is required for table growth or for temporary computations, the SAP HANA code obtains it from the existing memory pool. When the pool cannot satisfy the request, the HANA memory manager will request and reserve more memory from the operating system. At this point, the virtual memory size of the HANA processes grows.
Once a temporary computation completes or a table is dropped, the freed memory is returned to the memory manager, who recycles it to its pool, usually without informing Linux6. Thus, from SAP HANA’s perspective, the amount of Used Memory shrinks, but the process’ virtual and resident sizes are not affected. This creates a situation where the Used Memory may even shrink to below the size of SAP HANA’s resident memory, which is perfectly normal.
My doubt here is how  in any given point of time used memory can go below the used memory , because resident memory is always loaded with what is there in used memory , When used memory itslef is less , what does resident contains extra .
Also how to make a relation with HANA used memory , Database Resident memory , Virtual memory .
In case of  a memory issue , what should we check , Used memory of HANA   OR resident memory of HANA  ?
    Thanks,
    Razal

    Hi  all,
I am trying understand memory part bit in details ,  as i am building a complete monitoring infrastructure for HANA , and memory is core of HANA  all part of HANA
Can you also help me to understand how to make some difference  for used memory in HANA and Resident memory
When we say that the Resident memory is something from OS point of view  , this is the memory of the OS which is really being used .
So if the  used memory from HANA Perspective is full , OS still have some free memory  which can be used , How that part is managed .
When i say we are out of memory ,  Both used memory from HANA
Resident memory from OS is full ?
OR does the used memory is simply a calculation of Code + table + etc from HANA point of view .
    When execute query :
    SELECT SERVICE_NAME,ROUND(SUM(TOTAL_MEMORY_USED_SIZE/1024/1024/1024), 2) AS
"Used Memory GB", ROUND(SUM(PHYSICAL_MEMORY_SIZE/1024/1024/1024), 2) AS
"DB RESIDENT Memory GB" FROM SYS.M_SERVICE_MEMORY GROUP BY SERVICE_NAME
SERVICE_NAME     Used Memory GB DB RESIDENT Memory GB
    1 nameserver         6.73           1.7
    2 preprocessor       5.38           0.24
    3 indexserver        9.19           4.35
    4 scriptserver       7.52           1.83
    5 statisticsserver  8.52           3.87
    6 xsengine          7.92           1.82
    7 compileserver    5.31           0.23
On top of all this , In admin view  i get used memory as 17.87 as used memory and 18.89 as peak  .
How this used memory is summed up in admin view .
    I am using version 70 .
    Thanks,

  • DB2 Table locks after SAP Gui crashes

    Hi,
I have a really annoying problem. Since my SAP Gui crashes sometimes, when I have nearly the limit of sessions open, I get serious problems with table locks in DB2.
    Background:
When I run a program, which is updating/deleting/inserting data in SAP tables and the SAP Gui crashes, the table entries, which have been processed at that time get locked. So when SAP is then doing the roll back, the locks still exist!
The SAP basis guys have restarted the system for me, when I got this problem before, but it's really annoying, when this happens again...
I mean, of course the SAP gui shouldn't crash, but anyway the locks should be deleted by SAP during roll back, right?
Does anybody know this problem and does anybody know how to solve it without restarting the machine?
    Many thanks!

    Hi Markus,
true, the SAP Gui is also an issue I have to solve... But anyway the table lock should not occur.
If you think about some other situations, where the process can be interrupted:
    - Calling a BAPI synchronous via RFC, which is updating/inserting/deleting table records
    - Windows bluescreen
    - etc....
Whatever, it is really annoying to be in the need of restarting the system, when a process is going to be interrupted...
    Any ideas to this anyone?
    Thank you!

  • DL high resolution SAP-Netweaver-marketing-pictures for printing

    Hi,
does someone know where I can download some SAP-"marketing"-pictures in high resolution for printing? Maybe they have a download section for press releases. I was looking for such a section but was not able to find one.
Especially I am looking for this picture:
    http://www.cundus.de/img/seiten/produkte/sap/enterprise_portal_01.gif
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Thomas

The company already told me that they will refund my money so that is not the problem.
The ratio differences is what the person told me initially too, however told me that I could also change the dimensions so that the photos would not be cropped and centered automatically...but that's not what I want to do, as it would leave white space on the sides and top, and I have several that I want to frame.
So what do I do now? I have 100's of pictures and over 90% of them have this problem. I used your software to enhance the photos, crop the photos, etc... but I don't see an area that explains to me what part of the image will be cropped out once they are sent out to print. Nor to I see an area that gives me a rectangular dimension to work from. If I have to crop these pictures to get them to turn out right, I need to get started on this right away.
When I print these on my own printer they seem to print just fine. There are too many to print this way, however.

  • Memory allocation for SAP BI 7.0 instances

I have a BW 3.5 production system on Windows SQL platform. We will be migrate to a new hardware 64-bit physcal server, and upgrade to BI 7.0 ABAP/ SQL Server 2005. The new server has 32GB memory and we plan to install DB, CI and DI on the same box. My question to you is how do I allocate this 32 GB memory? My plan is:
    SQL Server Database: 12GB
    Central Instance: 10GB
    Dialog Instance:  10GB
Is this configuration ok or something I should do differently? How big page file I should give?
    Thanks for your input.

    > To be honest, most cases are probably users run the queries without providing proper parameters so it becomes blank queries somehow, not to mention that the queries themselves need be fine tuned. We have to deal these separately.
I know that problem - and that's why we limited the runtime so the query will stop and do so until the user provides correct selection criterias We tried to educate users to do so from the beginning but we found out, that only this "brute force" method works.
It's not only the runtime that comes into place but also the memory consumption if users do not select appropriately.
    > However, like I mentioned earlier, the strange thing is when a user launch a query, instead of using 1-2 DIA WP, it uses 4 or 5! Our BW analyst said "it's because some query is based on a multiprovider which has 4-5 cubes in it. When user execute a query, it has a thread for each cube". Do you know better way to deal this issue?
That is normal - and again, if users do not select correctly or the data model was not designed to what users actually select those multiprovider selections will put a high load on the database and using a lot of memory.

  • Cisco callmanager cpu and memory high utillization

    Hi,
I just know from the information posted in NetPros which explained that disk usage of 93 % it is norm.
Would like to know how about the inactive disk ? Is it ok that is around 91% ?
As for the memory heavy usage of 20xxxxx K and left only 19xxxK. Is it norm ?
What causes the heavy usage of memory and the inactive disk high percentage of usage ?
Appreciate the explanation and workaround if there are any.

as i mentioned, the high mem is due to linux. if you're familiar with linux you will understand how linux works. we do not have any public docs on what you ask. you can do some research on how linux platform works for a better understanding because what you ask is due to the usage of linux as the OS
the HDD space is also filled in that high because all of the partitions that linux creates on it and because most of the space is already preassigned to the linux core files, the CUCM and others. the CAR DB is preassigned 6 gigs and cannot grow more than that as an example.
no way to wipe out the inactive partition, it will always have the "old version" and that is the way this was designed to have it as a backup for emergencies

The default disk allocation and range varies depending on the size of the server hard drive. However, the maximum CAR database size is 6 GB.
usually if you have less than 98% of disk usage you're fine.

  • MEGA 180 Memory High or Low Density

    Hello,
Does anyone know what memory should be used in the Mega 180?
    I have just brought a
    '1GB PC2700 RAM 1 GB DDR 333 PC 2700 DIMM MEMORY 184PIN High Density'
module but it does not work, the supplier says it should be
    '1GB PC2700 RAM 1 GB DDR 333 PC 2700 DIMM MEMORY 184PIN Low Density'
I can not find anywhere that says it needs to be Low density I have sent a email to MSI, but no reply, does anyone know??

This is the question I didn't ask
Seems I can upgrade to Low Density, so lucky and still a good price, thanks again

I'm thinking of buying some of this 1gb '128x4' high density RAM thats really cheap on Ebay...'
Do a search of this forum for 128x4, and try and find a post where someone has successfully got this type of RAM working...   if you can't be bothered searching, the answer would appear to be no. better to not waste your time and get some proper 128x64 if you want 1gb sticks
