DB2 tablespace

Dear All,
May I know the proper way to increase a tablespace? Should change the tablespace from transaction DB02 from SAP login or I should update in the DB2 control center?
Currently, my system is generating some abap dumps which is caused by some tablespace is almost full.
Will also really appreciate it if someone can guide me to update the tablespace.
Regards,
John

If you are out of space in you tablespaces but not out of space in your sapdatas then you can either manually extend the size of the containers or setup Auto-resize.
There are various ways to setup Auto-resize..  I usually do a list tablespaces and pipe that to a file, then write  an inline ksh to issue the alter TS statement while reading through the file.
If you are out of space in your sapdata's then you can either increase the lun size, if your san allows this, or add additional sapdata's and containers.
In adding addtional containers, my preferred method is to add another sapdata and go through rebalancing.  keeping all new containers the same size as the old containers
Also be aware you can shrink tablespaces that have a large amount of free space and free up space in  your sapdatas as well.  Of course if your HWM is artifically high this requires more work.

  • In Db2 tablespace problem

    Hi,
We are using DB2 database. Here we enabled the Autoresize for tablespace. If tablespace enabled as autoresize means it should stay on 99%.In my case reaches 99.25%,100% some tablespace reachs.I checked the file system enough space is there. In this case how to increase the size of autoresize tablespace.
    How to slove this problem...
    Regards,
    Kumar

    Hello Kumar ,
this is usually not an Indicator for having an problem .
    see
    [DB2 : Automatic re-sizing of table spaces|http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v9r5/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.db2.luw.admin.dbobj.doc/doc/c0012277.html]
Tablespace extension is controlled by Parameters INCREASESIZE ,
(also  MAXSIZE but this is usually not used in SAP Environments ) .
Depending on Increasesize , the tablespace is increased using this amount of storage .
If the tablespace reaches 100% filling grade , it is extended automatically (therefor "Auto"-resize ) . You just need to monitor freespace in the filesystems for the tablespaces to have enough space for enlarging the containers available .
Please recheck for the tablespaces displayed with 100% filling grade , whether there are still free pages using an tablespace snapshot
db2 get snapshot for tablespaces on <DBSID>

  • Old db2 tablespace names in HR SP22 error log

    Hi all,
We are applying HR support packages on a test box.  This test instance is a copy of our production ERP instance.  The copy was done using a backup/restore off the PRD database.
We get an error when applying SAPKE60020 because it is trying to create a table in a tablespace that does not exist.  The tablespaces it is trying to access are of the pattern PRD#STABD, PRD#POOLD etc.   PRD is copied to TST.
I have updated tables TADB6, TSDB6 and IADB6 and changed PRD to TST for all tablespaces.  At the OS level if I run a "db2 list tablespaces" all the names show up as TST#<tablespacename>.
I am not sure why it is trying to access PRD#<tablespace>.  Is there someplace else I need to make a change from the old name?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
no I am running out of ideas. As Dirk mentioned the tablespace names are only maintained in tables TADB6, IADB6 and TSDB6. The SAP DDIC assembles CREATE TABLE statements for new tables using those table entries.
If you have changed all entries with the old SID in these tables and if you haven made sure that no old entries are buffered in the SAP table buffers ( $SYNC )
, the SAP DDIC should not generate CREATE TABLE statements for new tables containing the old tablespace names any more.
For existing tables that need to be converted the SAP DDIC reads out the current tablespace location from SYSCAT.TABLES and stores them into table DDSTORAGE before the table is dropped. For recreating the tables the DDIC then uses the DDSTORAGE entries. If no DDSTORAGE entries exist DDIC again falls back to TADB6, IADB6 and TSDB6.
If no table conversion is running table DDSTORAGE is usually empty.

  • DB2 Tablespace Management

    HI All
Can anyone pls let us know how to perform Tablespace Management in DB2,like increasing tablespace and adding datafile..etc.
Can it be done in SAP through DB02 Tcode if so how to do it,???
also how to do it through DB2 from OS level.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi All
We noticed that BTABD was hundred percent and now database is not coming up and from operating system level if we login and try to increase the tablespace through sql command it says:
"DB21034E  The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a
valid Command Line Processor command.  During SQL processing it returned:
SQL1036C  An I/O error occurred while accessing the database.  SQLSTATE=58030"
Not only that any command we execute it gives same error message and if we start sap it says Activate Database Failed, R3trans Connect Failed, Database start up failed
    Pls help.

  • Does SAP support Solaris 10 ZFS filesystem when using DB2 V9.5 FP4?

    Hi,
I'm installing NW7 (BI usage). SAPINST has failed in the step "ABAP LOAD due to the DB2 error message
"Unsupported file system type zfs for Direct I/O". It appears my Unix Admin must have decided to set these filesystems as ZFS on this new server.
I  have several questions requiring your expertise.
    1) Does SAP support ZFS filesystems on Solaris 10 (SPARC hardware)? I can not find any reference in SDN or Service Market Place? Any reference will be much appreciated.
    2) How can I confirm my sapdata fielsystems are ZFS?
    3) What actions do you recommend for me to resolve the SAPINST errors? Do I follow the note "Note 995050 - DB6: NO FILE SYSTEM CACHING for Tablespaces" to disable "Direct I/O" for all DB2 tablespaces? I have seen Markus Doehr's forum Link:[ thread|Re: DB2 on Solaris x64 - ZFS as filesystem possible?; but it does not state exactly how he overcame the error.
    regards
    Benny

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for your input.
I have also found  the command "zfs list" that would display any ZFS filesystems.
We have also gone back to UFS as the ZFS deployment schedule does not meet this particular SAP BW implementation timeline.
Has any one come across any SAP statement that states NW7 can be deployed with ZFS for DB2 database on Solaris SPARC platform. If not, I'll open an OSS message.
    regards
    Benny

  • XI message processing is very slow

XI message processing is very slow.I did everything in tuning guide, but it is still very slow.
    I executed <b>DB13-->Check and update optimizer statistics</b>
XI message is faster in another XI server.Although another XI server's hardware is weaker.
I checked DB2 tablespaces and extend them.
What can I do for higher performance?
    Thanks.

    Hi Cemil
The following thread can throw some light on what you are looking for..
Where could I find the information about XI performance?
    Also, check the following pdf

  • Customer Defined Data Classes on Cluster Tables?

    Hi all,
I noticed that there is no option within db13 to change the storage option to a customer defined data class, for cluster tables. I am sure this is by design but wanted to check to see if anyone has had any luck defining a data class on a cluster table.
We could move a cluster table to a DB2 tablespace and define the new Data Class through dbacockpit/db02, but there is no option to change the data class definition in the data dictionary (se13) to use the new Data Class for the table itself.
Mainly what we are aiming for is to be able to move 2 tables into their own tablespaces on the target server, during a migration. Sapinst is looking at the Data Classes to create DDLDB6.XML, which defines the tablespace assignments to the target server, so perhaps there is a preferred method of making this change, if it does exist.
    Thanks for any insights,
    Derek

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the helpful answers. I should add some more detail.
Our tablespaces have already been moved to new tablespaces on the source system, with DB6CONV, and we have updated our data classes through db02, with no problems. So sapinst uses the data class definitions to create the custom tablespaces, and then uses the data class assignments to assign the table to a tablespace.
However, the cluster tables do not seem to support the data class assignment in se13, the option is not available as it is for normal tables. Let me see if I can post a screenshot somewhere with a cluster table versus a normal table. For example, there is no option to change the data class for table CDCLS in se13.
I am wondering if this is a limitation of the version of R/3 we are using, or if the limitation for cluster tables is something that is intended on all versions of R/3.
If we can't use db13 to make the assignment, we may try the custom definition in the STR file as Kiran mentioned.

  • Varbinary error in DBUM connector reconcile from Oracle target into MSSql

I am getting the following exception thrown when I try to run a lookup reconcile from (target) Oracle 10g DB into Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (which is the OIM DB).
-> * Nested Exception (Underlying Cause) - com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Operand type clash: varbinary is incompatible with text
The connector type is DBUM 9.1.0.3 and I am trying to reconcile the database roles lookup.
    The OIM version is 9.1.0.2 with BP08 applied (upgrade path with 9.1.0.1 -> 9.1.0.2 + BP08)
The OIM database is Microsoft SQL server 2005 with SP2
    sqljdbc version 1.2
Communication between OIM and Oracle has not been configured as 'secure'
The Database connection seems to be ok (I tested the connectivity/create/delete with the Utility provided to test the connector)
In the same environment I have a Active Directory against which I can run both trusted and untrusted reconciles, so it may suggest that any error is specific to the Oracle resource.
    Thanks for any advice/tips

    Hi,
During the PREPARE phase normally it creates a script which you can run for the creation of these Tablespaces, this script can be found in the Upgrade directory(eg:/usr/sap/put/log/DB6TBSXT.CLP - this script will have the command to create the tablespaces).Just run this script,it will create all the tablespaces based on the requirement.

  • How Can i Use /db2/ DBSID /saptemp* tablespace in DB2 9.5

    Hi Guys,
I have installed a new system DB2 and at the time of installation i defined 1 mount point as /db2/SID/saptemp1 but it is not being used. I have two queries ?
    1. How can i use /db2/SID/saptemp1 tablespace in DB2 at the time of installation ?
    2. How can i use /db2/SID/saptemp1 tablespace in DB2 after the installation?
Please mention the note number if available for same solution.
    Thanks in Advance....!!!
    Regards,

    Hello,
with newer SAPINST versions, tempoary tablespaces are created in the /db2/SID/sapdata(n) filesystems.
    To answer your questions:
    1) This depends on the SAPINST version, but usually there is an option that lets you create the tablespaces manually. Check if there is an Option in the SAPINST dialog "Create Tablespaces with SAPinst.". If you deselect it, you can create them manually.
    2) The procedure would be to create a new temparay tablespace in your preferred filesystem(s), to drop the old one and optionally to rename the new one to the old name.

  • DB2 V9 and Universal Tablespaces

    Hello
and again a question concerning DB2 V9. The new feature universal tablespace (UTS) enables growth in a partition-like manner without the need to partition the TS by key.
Now my first question : has anybody already migrated to V9 and afterwards changed some objects ? If so I guess it has to be done by transaction SE14 which implies a so called table conversion (unload - drop - create - reload). Or is it easier to achieve ?
Second : when tablespaces are created under V9 is there an automatism in the dictionary that creates them generally as UTS by growth if not XSAP ? I guess no because the dictionary would have to know which DSSIZE applies.
And third : if someone already has UTS did you experience great values apart of the benefit that you don't have to worry about extremly growing clusters ?
I searched the SAP-Notes , the DBA Guide and Best practice for migrating but did not find anything special for these questions.
    Thanks a lot
    Martin Ketterer

    Hello,
I hope I can provide some info with respect to questions 1) and 2).
The answer depends a little bit on the SAP Release:
With SAP Release <= 7.00 UTS is not generally used, however it is possible to move tables to UTS (partition-by-growth using transaction SE14). The respective functionality was shipped with Support Packages 620/64, 640/22 and 640/700/14. The default behavior is not changed.
With SAP Release >= 7.10 and DB2 v9.1 all tables are created implicitly (which includes the automatic creation of an UTS tablespace). During an upgrade this only affects the newly and converted tables. There is no automatic procedure that transfers tables/tablespaces to UTS.
We plan to provide a White Paper within SDN by the end of 2Q08 that covers all the new SE14/DDIC functions shipped with the latest SPs.
    Best Regards,
Bernd Kohler (SAP on System z).
