DBMS_SCHEDULER interface in v3
Great to see more improvements to SQLDeveloper in version 3, especially (for us) having the DBMS_SCHEDULER information exposed in the connection tree.
Question: should I be able to change the attributes for e.g. a job using drop-down list controls? Clicking has no response. Have tried using system connections and individual schema connections.
This is using Ubuntu.

Hi -K-
This is not a bug, but a consequence of how Tables are displayed in Java. With a Table you may get arbitarily large grids of components to display. The simplest approach to implement this would have been to create a sub component for each cell in the table and use the Java Runtime to work out and render each component, and the sub components of the table would be live and react to user gestures. This approach has some serious performance issues in both memory and processor load, especially when the tables become large. So Java took the approach that the table would display a picture of the cells by using a single component for each column to paint each visible cell in that column, there are no Java components underlying the cells to interact with the user. This is why the drop-downs seem unresponsive as they are just pictures of what the component would look like.
However when you double click in a cell position the Table UI goes into edit mode and creates and places a real component in the cells position and you are able to interact with it. Once you have finished the edit the Table UI dismisses the editing component and redraws the cell using the column's rendering component.

Call PL/SQL Procedure (not stored) from SQLPLUS
Hello,
the following code creates a stored procedure and allows to call the procedure from SQLPLUS using EXEC.
CREATE or REPLACE PROCEDURE welcome IS
BEGIN
dbms_output.put_line('Welcome user ' || user);
END;
exec welcome;I would like to do the same without storing the procedure. The procedure should be defined in an PL/SQL-Script and called in a SQLPLUS loop. On the one hand I do not have the privileges to create stored procdures. On the other hand I want to use put_line in the loop. Without passing control to SQLPLUS (e.g. the loop-master) all output is kept in the buffer and no information are shown during processing the data.

There should be a repair job updating many hundredthousends records. A script should be created and called only once and the calling user should be informed about the processing status. There is no need for heavy output, but after 5000 or 10000 records I would like to display a message saying nnnnn records processed.Then you need another mechanism to report the current status to the user.
You cannot use the current session to do that. Sessions are serialised. That means they can do only service a single request at a time. So if the session executes procedure foo that updates 100's of 1000's of rows - then that is what the process will be doing. The procedure can only report back to the client after it has completed. It cannot interact directly with the client during the executing of that procedure.
This means that if you want to actually send a notification to the client, you need to do that via a separate session. E.g. the 1st session executes procedure foo that performs the update. That procedure sends a notification (using DBMS_ALERT or DBMS_PIPE for example) to the 2nd session - where the 2nd session receives the asynchronous notification and reports that to the user.
Another method would be for the update procedure to register a long operation using DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO. This enables another session to view the status and progress of the update procedure via virtual (v$) performance views.
Another method would be for the client session not to start the update procedure itself. Instead it can schedule a background job (using DBMS_JPB or DBMS_SCHEDULER interfaces) - and then monitor the status of the job.
Also suggest that you spend some time familiarising yourself with application developer fundamentals and concepts for Oracle. There are guides for both at http://tahiti.orcacle.com for the Oracle version you use. You cannot correctly use Oracle if you do not understand how Oracle works and what the application development features are. And your current approach using DBMS_OUTPUT is pretty much flawed and not how Oracle sessions should report their processing status to a client. -
How to load huge size file in database
Hi,
I have a requirement to load files into database and download them as well. Can you tell me which is the best method to do on plsql.
Thanks
SudhirThe file upload will be a tad ugly.
You need to create an upload form/page in Apex that allows the user to upload the file. The Apache location configuration for that Database Access Descriptor (DAD) will include a parameter called PlsqlDocumentTablename - and this parameter specifies the name of the Oracle (or Apex) table to use for uploads.
The default document table is WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$.
The 150Mb file will thus be a LOB in a row in the document table.
You can add a post PL/SQL process to that Apex upload page to process the uploaded document. Because of the size of the uploaded file, I suggest that you start a batch process (via the DBMS_JOB or DBMS_SCHEDULER interfaces) to process the upload file.
Okay, now for the processing. This is the ugly part - as the file is a LOB column in the database and you want to use it via SQL*Loader as an external file or external table. You can write your own CSV parser in PL/SQL. But I do not recommend using this approach for large files - SQL*Loader and external tables are a lot more flexible. I have not yet seen a means to define an external table on a CLOB - so this means having to write code using UTL_FILE and unload the 150Mb LOB contents to an actual external file. Once that is done, you can then use an external table on the external file to load it.
As for sending files to the client via Apex. This is done using the WPG_DOCLOAD.download_file() call to stream the LOB to the client browser. E.g. basic example:
--// URL example: http://my-server.my-domain.com/MyDAD/MySchemaName.StreamFile?fileID=1234
create or replace procedure StreamFile( fileID number ) AUTHID DEFINER is
mimeType varchar2(48);
fileName varchar2(400);
lobContent BLOB;
begin
--// read the LOB from a table (or dynamically create it)
select
f.filename,
f.mime_type,
f.blob_content
into
fileName,
mimeType,
lobContent
from FLOWS_FILES.WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$ f
where f.id = fileID;
--// format a basic HTTP header that describes the file stream send
OWA_UTIL.mime_header( mimeType, FALSE ); -- e.g. text/csv text/plain text/html image/gif
HTP.p( 'Content-Disposition: attachment; filename='||fileName );
HTP.p( 'Content-Length: ' || DBMS_LOB.GetLength(lobContent) );
OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
--// now write the BLOB as a mime stream using the Web Procedural Gateway's
--// doc load API
WPG_DOCLOAD.download_file( lobContent );
exception when OTHERS then
--// Decide what HTML to generate (if at all) if there is a failure
HTP.prn( 'StreamFile() failed with '||SQLERRM(SQLCODE) );
end;

Error creating job into trigger using DBMS_SCHEDULER.
Hi,
I am trying to create job using dbms_scheduler package. I have one trigger on insert event on one table. I am creating job using following syntax.
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TRG_BI_JOB_CONFIG BEFORE INSERT ON JOB_CONFIG FOR EACH ROW
DECLARE
BEGIN
DBMS_SCHEDULER.Create_Job(job_name => 'my_job1'
,job_type => 'PLSQL_BLOCK'
,job_action => 'delete_temp'
,start_date => TO_DATE('15-JUL-2003 1:00:00 AM', 'dd-mon-yyyy hh:mi:ss PM')
,repeat_interval => 'FREQ=DAILY'
,enabled => TRUE
,comments => 'DELETE FOR job schedule.');
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN RAISE;
END;
but I am getting following error while inserting into JOB_CONFIG table.
ORA-04092: cannot in a trigger
ORA-06512: at "PRAKASH1.TRG_BI_JOB_CONFIG", line 41
ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger
same above statement If I am running from sqlplus then It is creating job without error. If I am creating job using DBMS_JOB into trigger then It is also working fine but this package is depricated from oracle10g so I cannt use it any more.
My Oracle version is 'Oracle DATABASE 10g RELEASE 10.2.0.1.0 - Production'.
can anyone help me in this context.I have a few comments on this thread as an Oracle dbms_scheduler developer.
- Oracle takes backward compatibility very seriously. Although dbms_job is deprecated, the interface will continue to work indefinitely. The deprecation of dbms_job is so that customers will be encouraged to take advantage of the more powerful dbms_scheduler. It is extremely unlikely that entire blocks of functionality will ever be removed. There is currently no plan to remove dbms_job functionality (and even if there were, doing so would be strenuously opposed by many users).
- lots of internal Oracle database components are standardizing on using dbms_scheduler (resource manager, materialized views, auto sql tuning etc). This is good evidence that it will continue to be the recommended scheduling method for the foreseeable future - not even the concept of a replacement exists. It is also under active development.
- The reason for the automatic commit is that a dbms_scheduler job is a full database object like a stored procedure or a table. So a call to dbms_scheduler.create_job is like executing a DDL which takes effect immediately. A dbms_job job is mostly just a row in a table so a call to dbms_job.submit behaves like regular DML. There are many advantages to a job being a full database object but DDL behaviour is an unfortunate requirement of this.
Hope this clears a few things up, reply with any questions.

Does oracle olap have graphic user interfaces like SQL Server Analysis Services?
At Escendo we also offer products that have direct access to the OLAP Option including write back. Escendo Analytics, and Architect. Check us out or contact us at http://www.escendo.com
Escendo Analytics*
* Full graphic Calculation builder including support for aggregations, allocations, models and many others even including the standard regression and forecasting, Geneva Forecasting and Monte Carlo simulation.
* Process Management which utilizes DBMS_SCHEDULER making for multiple threaded processes such as as parallel loading/processing a snap - full dependency mapping and approvals and flexible scheduling.
* Direct Read/Write access through our ad-hoc reporting with all the usual slice and dice features you would expect in a flash front end
* User access control and management through our Business Perspectives (users, groups
* Easy sharing and collaboration - use any standard SQL reporting tools against the the same data (obviously since this is an Oracle Forum I must add that OBIEE, Publisher, APEX etc - literally any reporting tool)
Architect* is a multi-simultaneous developer workbench which allows full direct access to the OLAP Option capabilities, while our Analyzer web interface to Analytics provides
*version Control including optional integration with subversion, promotion management (dev->test->QA->PROD for example)
*partition templates
*Fullly automated multi-user access
*both Visible and non-user visible measures
*aggregation and allocation management
*native support for both level and value based(ragged) hierarchies
*model and Program editing with lots of Features for productivity and quality enhancements (we use it to develop our flagship products)
*Conversion utilities for legacy Express Applications (Like OFA) - we have converted OFA systems (including reports and saved selections) with huge performance boosts in under a week.
Don't forget that since we are inside the database with Oracle OLAP, there are huge benefits in managing a truly integrated solution. As part of the database kernel, you have scalability, performance and reliability which is unrivaled. (Things like rman, imp/exp etc.
A partner has an excel add-in which has native support the Escendo application platform. http://myobjectiveolap.com/index.htm It is very useful in that you have very advanced control and interaction with the OLAP option allowing complete control over your excel formatting and layout.

Scheduling Packages and providing Web Interface
Hi All,
I have Oracle Packages and procedures which are currently being scheduled by Crontab on UNIX. There are 20 odd jobs that run daily.
I want to make a Web interface by which user can see what is running and can schedule a package.
Oracle 11g has Oracle Scheduler which says that it can be given a web interface.
Could anyone suggest as to how can I achieve to have a Web interface ?
Are there any third party tools that can be used ?
Please suggest.
Thanks in Advance.Thanks Ravi,
Here you go !
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/scheduler/htdocs/scheduler_fov.html
"The Scheduler can execute OS jobs (shell scripts, executables etc.), PL/SQL blocks, and PL/SQL or Java stored procedures. OS jobs can run as any OS user on or across different operating platforms, such as Unix, Windows, z/OS and OS/400. It can be accessed using a Web Interface (EM) as well as an API - DBMS_SCHEDULER. The Web Interface makes the Scheduler accessible from anywhere using a web browser. The Scheduler provides complex enterprise scheduling functionality."
Does Application Express comes with 11g only ? Coz currently our production DB is on 9i. I had downloaded 11g last nite, probably will make some sample web applications and see how it goes.
Thanks a million.

Open Interface Rejects - SQL Report
Hi guys, I'm trying to help out some folks in AP with an easier access to view Open Interface rejects. I already knew the relation between AP_INVOICES_INTERFACE and AP_INTERFACE_REJECTIONS was INVOICE_ID AND PARENT_ID (respectively). Now I've seen that some invoices also have a relation between AP_INVOICE_LINES_INTERFACE and AP_INTERFACE_REJECTIONS, same columns related (INVOICE_ID AND PARENT_ID respectively).
What I'm having a problem with, maybe I've just been sitting here too long, but I cannot get it all into one report.
I tried this, but it's giving me way more records than it should:
SELECT AIR.CREATION_DATE
, AIR.REJECT_LOOKUP_CODE
, AII.PO_NUMBER
, AII.GROUP_ID
, AII.VENDOR_NUM
, AII.INVOICE_NUM
, AII.INVOICE_DATE
, AII.INVOICE_AMOUNT
, AII.SOURCE
FROM AP.AP_INTERFACE_REJECTIONS AIR
, AP.AP_INVOICES_INTERFACE AII
, AP.AP_INVOICE_LINES_INTERFACE AILI
WHERE (AII.INVOICE_ID = AIR.PARENT_ID AND AII.ORG_ID = 162)
OR (AILI.INVOICE_ID = AIR.PARENT_ID AND AILI.ORG_ID = 162)
Any thoughts on where I mucked it up or how I could actually go about this? What shows in the actual Open Interface app is a good start, it's just missing some fields like vendor name and reject lookup code.
Thanks for any help!945273 wrote:

Thanks for any help!I don't know the table strructures or relationships, but based on what you said, I think you want something more like:
SELECT air.creation_date, air.reject_lookup_code, aii.po_number, aii.group_id,
aii.vendor_num, aii.invoice_num, aii.invoice_date, aii.invoice_amount,
aii.source
FROM ap.ap_interface_rejections air, ap.ap_invoices_interface aii,
ap.ap_invoice_lines_interface aili
WHERE ali.invoice_id = alii.invoice_id and
ali.invoice_id = air.parent_id and
aii.org_id = 162You may need/want to add the org_cd predicate to the interfact lines as well, depending if there could be invoices with the same id in multiple orgs.
Assuming you have the relations correct, this should give you a row for every line on every invoice that has a row in the ap_interface_rejections table. It might be worthwhile to look at the ap_interface_rejections table to see if it has an analog for the invoice line number, which could also be used in the join, to get a more specific result set.

Logical interface in solaris 10
Hi there,
I need to configure logical interface in a solaris 10 3/05 server. After reading the Solaris 10 IP services manual, I am not quite sure what to do. All the examples and explanation are about using the new subcommand addif of ifconfig. It was not clear in the documentation if the setting logical interfaces via addif will persist across boot.
Can one still configure logical interface in Solaris 10 in a more traditional way like in Solaris 8? In an Solaris 8 server I will do the following.
Let's assume I want to configure in a solaris 8 server a logical interface named hme0:1 with IP address 192.168.20.28 with netmask 255.255.255.0 for hostname host001
# cat /etc/hostname.hme0:1

You don't need to reboot (you can run ifconfig for this boot and let the files do the work next time) and the -r doesn't do anything with interfaces (expecially virtual interfaces) anyway.

PankajHi Ramraj,
Even i have the base license for my ASA 5510 which is showing all the 4 interfaces in sh ver. I don't think so license would be an issue. There should be some IOS code bug that needs to be upgraded. If this goes for an OS upgrade it should get resolved.
Its not showing up in sh ver . As Karsten said he might be running on old IOS version.

Hello,
I have setup ASA 5505 with 2 ISP, named outside (primary) and backup, the scenario is if outside down, then backup will take over, it works now.
But it is not working when the primary connection cannot reach the gateway with the interface still up.
Is it possible when the primary connection cannot reach the gateway then backup automatically take over?
Thanks before..

Run SAP PI Interfaces 24X7. How
How I can run PI Interfaces 24X7 to achieve Business Continuity.
The solution provided as u2013
Install Separate additional PI System u2013 called as Federation PI.
Is this solution really applicable?
Details:
1. Our Current Production Landscape holds only One PI System
2. These interfaces hold Critical, Sensitive Finance, employee Data posting to ECC etc.
3. HA options are available and Planned Outages are communicated with Non-SAP Process teams.
4. No performance issues.
5. PI Scaling is in progress to balance load on PI System.
Requirement: We seek PI Production System up and running 24X7 for all above interfaces with out any interruption.
Below Issues: Makes our PI Production System Shut-down for certain period
1. Planned outages
2. Un-planned outages
3. Upgrades
4. Allowed Down-time
5. SPOF
Solution: Federation of SAP PI
1. A very good solution u2013 so that we can switch to another PI System when first PI system is down for any reason.
2. We need to maintain IR, ID objects of interfaces that we planned for 24X7 in both PI Systems.
3. Communication Channels are active in only One PI system.
4. Manual activation of Communication Channels is required when we plan to switch Second PI Server.
That Implies
5. There is minimum amount of downtime is present.
6. So, 24X7 of runtime is not achievable.
My Only one Question:
Is there any automated procedure for this runtime procedure..!!?
Switching in between PI Systems might be possible.
But, how we can implement activation of CC in Second PI System with out manual interaction?Hi,
Currently we are about to start the POC for my client, and the scenarion is like this
We have a ECC system( which will send the IDOC ) and it will be received by my central PI system.( which is is in UK).
The client is present in multiple locations( UK,AUS,US), they want to install the additional PI boxes in AUS and US and they want to have a federation with central PI system which present in UK.
we have two scenarios.
1) The IDOC will trigger from ECC and then it will go to central PI system and then it has to go to local PI system and then to the third party system.
2) The IDOC will trigger from ECC system and then it has to go to the local PI and then to the central PI box and then to the third party system.
Can you please let me know how can achieve these two scenarios and how to install local PI boxes in federation with the central PI box.

Good morning!
I am trying to transfer sound from a FantomX7 keyboard synthesizer to garageband through an interface (MAudio) and with a usb cable. I see the image of the sound being recorded but I cannot hear anything - I know that there is a speaker button somewhere that must be muted - but I can't find it . Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. thanks, Musicmimi.Good morning!

Problems access to a web application (Web Interface or Web report)
Hi,
We found problems with the access to web application. Some users have problems with direct links to the web applications(Web Interface or Web reporting), when they click on the link an error message appears, the message displays the following text:
"Cannot open file Bex?sap-language=ENbsplanguge=ENcmd=idoc_TE.."
Clicking in details the message is "No Access to specified file"
For this users the access to excel reporting is correct, the message appears when they click on the direct web links through the browser or directly in BW system, but if they type the URL they can access. Other users can use the direct web link without problems.
I highly appreciate any help or idea about how to solve this issue.
Thanks in advance.HI,
please ask to your basis that check the language of every single user on su01 tx.
This is the problem i think.
