Dead screen during calls

has anyone ran into this problem? I made a phone call and talked for a very short time, but as i went to hang up the call my screen was still black, i couldnt get the phone to responed, i pressed every button and touched the screen, it wouldnt responed, and i couldnt end the call. it made me restart.
this is not cool. theres to many problems for the money we paid. i belive steve jobs should really hook us up with some incentive,or some kind of bouns for our troubles..dont get me wrong i love the phone but i _expected more from mac_ ...............

Does made me restart mean a Reset by pressing/holding the Home key and Sleep/Wake key simultaneously until the white Apple logo appears and then release?
I've experienced very few problems and the problems I have experienced have been minor that a reset cured or simply turning it off and on which should be done with any cell phone every few days or so if always left on.
If a Reset doesn't resolve this problem, try a complete Restore and if a complete Restore doesn't resolve it either, you probably have a repair or replacement issue that will be covered under warranty.
This is the first release so there are bound to be some bugs that once discovered and analyzed can be addressed by a firmware or software update.
Edit - Nathan brought up an excellent point regarding some iPhone cases that block the proximity sensor so check this first.

  • Returning to home screen during call

Hey all, my 8330 curve always just used to stay on the connected screen while in a call which allowed me to see my call time and be able to switch speaker phone on and off, etc. Now though, for some reason, it will switch back to the home screen during calls. I cannot tell if I am even in a call, let alone see how long i've been talking or turn on speaker phone.
Any ideas how I can keep it from returning to the home screen during calls?
    Thanks

I've had the same problem and asked AT&T to assist in one of their store fronts and was told that my phone was out of warranty.  BB support was of no help, stating that they had no idea what I was  talking about.

  • Touch Screen during call

It would be nice to lock the screen during a call preventing unnecessary muting and disconnecting of calls. At least redesign the keypad to have the MUTE button on the right side so the chin doesn't touch the mute button during a call.

This is indeed a feature of the iphone. If your does not work, then make sure that you do not have a case on it that may be blocking the sensor.
If the case were blocking the sensor, it would still turn the screen off, but it would do it as soon as the call started, rather than waiting for the iPhone to be brought up to his/her cheek. I only know this because I was using an original iPhone case for a week or so after I got the iPhone 3G, and the sensors are in different positions on the two devices, so cases for the original may not work with the 3G if they cover the top portion of the screen near the ear speaker in any way.

  • Auto off of screen during call.

My Lumia 520 screen doesn't get off automatically when handset is put on ear during call.
many times the speaker gets switched on or call get ended by accidental touch of cheek during calls.

Try a soft reset by holding both the power and volume down buttons pressed until the phone vibrates and restarts. If that doesn't help, take it to a Nokia care point to have the proximity sensor checked and repaired. You can find the one nearest to you by clicking on the Support link at the bottom of the page.

  • Lumia 800 constant blank screen during calls

    hi guys,
    I have a nokia lumia 800,
when im on a call the screen stays blank so i cant access any of the in call options? i dont have a screen protector on the phone, i have run the diagnostics app and the the proximity sensor is responding fine!!! so it leads me to think its a software issue? is this a common problem or am i doing something wrong?
    hope you can help.
    daniel

The screen gets turned off during a phone call when the proximity sensor is covered. This is done to avoid accidental touch screen actions when you are in a call.
If the screen gets turned off immediately when dialing a number or receiving a call, check that your phone does not have any object which may cause detection. There are various non-Nokia original screen protectors sold in the market which cover the proximity sensor causing blank screen issues during calls.
You can take the following steps to check the issue. If the screen keeps turned off, the protector may not be of the right size and will block the sensor on the upper part of the front side. Then either remove the protector or cut off the plastic from the blocking area.
Make or receive a call with the phone.
Once the phone is in a call place your hand 1cm above the screen and display will turn off.
Remove your hand and display shall turn back on.
Repeat the test steps 1,2,3 for 3 times to verify the proximity sensor function.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Iphone 3g blank screen during calls

I bought a 3g last week to replace an original iphone that had stopped working. Everything seemed to work on the new phone except that during calls the screen would go blank and I could not get it back by holding it away from my ear, hitting the Home button, or anything else except the on/off button at the top, which ended the call. I was on the phone with apple tech support for several hours, trying all sorts of things that didn't solve the problem.
Then my grandson came home and looked at my phone. He surmised that the case, which I had transferred from my original iphone, was blocking the sensors. This turned out to be correct. If I push the phone slightly out of the case when on a call, the screen works just fine.
I decided to post this in case some one else runs into the same problem.

As soon as you said that the screen didn't come on, my first question was going to be are you using the original iPhone case? The proximity sensors on the 3G are positioned a little differently than the original phone.

    Hi ausrius517,
Sorry to hear you are having a problem with your device.
Have you tried performing the following resets to see if it will solve your issue:
Soft Reset - this will not delete and data off your device.
Enter *#7780# into your phone's keypad and when prompted, enter 12345 (default code)
If there are not too much data on your device and you have made a backup, you can go for the hard reset option below.
Hard Reset - this will wipe all data off your device, so a backup is recommeded before doing this.
Enter *#7370# into your phone's keypad and when prompted, enter 12345 (default code)

  • Shouldn't the proximity sensor disable the screen during call w/headphones?

I've noticed that the proximity sensor does not automatically disable the touchscreen when I'm on a call if I have the headphones plugged in.Is this the case for others as well? Since I keep my 3GS in my pocket during these calls, what tends to happen is that the "end call" (or whatever it is called) button gets pressed from my movements and my call terminates at some point.
    Does this make sense?

I am experiencing the same issue. This has not been fixed as of 7.0.3. It's a very annoying issue since it completely breaks the "hands-free" benefit of using siri. Now I always have to take the phone out of my pocket, voice dial, turn the screen off, and put the phone back in my pocket. very hard to do on a bike.

  • Flex addEventListener - how to refresh the screen during called event?

I can't seem to find the answer to what I would have thought was a common problem.
What I want to do this is:
    1. Show the Open File Dialog
    2. Process the file selected
    3. During processing the file, report progress to the User
I have a file defined, and am using the browseForOpen and AddEventListener:
        public var fileInput:File = new File();
        fileInput.browseForOpen("Open file",[filter]);
        fileInput.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, onFileSelect);
// Step 2 - function gets called to process the file
        private function onFileSelect(e:Event):void
// Step 3 - do some processing, and at intervals report progress to the screen
My issue is - any changes to the screen within the event listener do not get done until the function is complete.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks

    Hi Neal,
I'd suggest breaking up your processing in Step 3 so that the player has a chance to step in and update the screen. Take a look at articles on "green threads" for the basic concept:
    http://blog.generalrelativity.org/?s=green
    http://code.google.com/p/greenthreads/
Off the top of my head, some ways to break your processing up into chunks:
set up a Timer that fires every n milliseconds, and a listener on the Timer events that processes a chunk of the file on each event
set up an ENTER_FRAME event handler that processes a chunk of the file on each event
chain the processing of your chunks of the file with callLater() calls
Also, you may want to take a look at the ProgressBar component for reporting the progress of your processing.

  • Lumia 930 blank screen during call

My Lumia 930 screen goes blank during all calls. Iti is black whether the phone is next to my ear or not. In practice I cannot end a call or do anything else cause the screen keyboard is not available.
My son has a Lumia 920 which had very much the same problem but it was somehow fixed when the device was at Nokia service last year because of some camera problems. No idea still about the root cause of that case either.
Any idea how to fix my blank screen problem?

I have the exact same issue with my brand new Lumia 930 - the screen goes black (a bit randomly) when talking on the phone. I used a trick decribed in a post with the same issue on a 920, which is to firmly wipe just above the N in Nokia in the top right corner on the phone (where the sensors are) which helps. However, it is not really fixing the problem.
Is there anybody knowing another solution but to return the phone, which feels a bit cumbersome to say the least?
    Thanks,
    Erik

  • Iphone blank screen during call

I have developed a problem with my iphone over the last few weeks. When I make a phone call the screen blanks out as expected during the call however if I take the phone away from ear to end the call/use keypad etc the screen will not come back? Is anyone lse is experienceing this issue? is there a way to fix it?

Remove the case from your iphone and see if that resolves the issue.
Your case is likely blocking the sensor.

  • IPhone not automatically turning off screen during calls...

ok, getting sick of this b.s. and i have tried the settings and whatever else i can find... NOTHING WORKS!
WHY!!!  why when i make calls does it not turn the screen off so that i don't unintentionally mute people or accidentally put them on speaker??!  w-t-f apple???
also, sometimes when it actually does fade out, it stays feded out... and i have to hit buttons or the screen to wake it back up?!??!  w-t-h apple?!?!
anyone else having this problem?  i tried to search the forum and can't find anything on it...
    thanks

The iPhone 4's proximity sensor is just above the earpiece speaker as shown here:
If your Otterbox is covering the sensor, it won't work.  Otterbox makes cases for the iPhone 3/3GS and iPhone 4.  The sensors are located in different places, so a case for the 3/3GS won't work for a 4.
Take your case off and see if you still have the problem.  You may have a bad sensor and need to make an appointment to have an Apple Retail Store Genius look at your phone. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • Black screen during calling with the lumia 930

I just received the lumia 930 a few days ago. Perfect device however every time I want to make a call the screen goes black. I had a lumia 920 without this problem. Is there a solution? (without blowing the dust, restoring to factory settings or bringing the device back to the store?). This is such a devastating problem as it is almost impossible to just answer the phone. A have no protective cover etc.

    Eath4306, so difficult to say.
I saw that if I use a cloth to clean (or simulate cleaning the display on top of the sensor) and bright light then it comes back for a few seconds... enough to be able to end the call. Not able in any way to dial keys as for example to join a conference call.
I also checked to see if is possible to make an application to disable the sensor... However, so far I couldn't see such option. Every application will ask OS to provide access to devices, and no other app can interfere there. Although I have plan to just build an app to test all phone sensors.
This proximity sensor seems very sensitive. It could be calibration issue, which then should be fixed by firmware. But Microsoft should consider this and at least allow the possibility to disable in the Phone app the proximity feature. I could live very well without it. In the past I was just pressing the power button and screen will go off.
So, Microsoft/Nokia, here are people that believe in you! Do not disappoint us!

    PS
I have anyway in plan whenever available this week to go to shop and ask for replacement. This time I know what I have to test when i buy it...

  • Black screen during call

Usually the iphone's screen goes black when you have it up to your ear, then comes back on when you pull it away. Unfortunately, mine sometimes stays black, and am unable to hang up the call or do anything. Tried taking it back to AT&T but they won't take it back. Any advice?

    Hi sbga420,
Doi you have a protective case on the iPhone that could be covering up the proximity sensor? If there is a case on the iPhone, try testing the iPhone without the case.

  • SBH52 unlocks screen during calls

Every time I answer or initiate a call via SBH52 it fails to keep the Z Ultra screen locked while it is in my pocket. Unfortunately this leads to involuntary clicks when moving with the phone pocketed. This is extremely annoying and renders the SBH52 practically useless.
Can someone confir if this is a fault with the proximity sensor (not detecting the phone being pocketed) or is it a firmware issue? Any fixes at all? SONY, back to you...

    errrmm....any suggestions from sony support?
