Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0 with WRT54GX2 router

I have a WRT54GX2 router and my laptop is connected wirelessly to the router. It worked fine before but now, the connection is only local, it's not connected to the internet.
On the router, it says: Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0
I think that it should say 192.168.1.1 instead.
I tried dhcp release and renew but it didn't work.
The firmware version is 1.01.22
What can I try to fix this internet connection problem?

Try to bypass the router and connect your computer directly to the modem.
Yeah... but unless you're trying to check if there's a problem with the internet connection per se,  wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having a router?
Do what Greencross is suggesting:  hard reset the router.  If you must, do a firmware upgrade as well.

Can you add static route on Linksys router 'ip route 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.2' and give a try..?

  • Cascaded network unable to access default gateway att 5031nv

Hello -  I have a Cisco 3750 sitting behind an ATT 5031 NV.  The Cisco device has the following networks 'living' on it: 10.1.1.1 /2410.1.2.1 /2410.1.3.1 /24 All of these have DHCP pools living on the Cisco device.  The default gateway they had out is the IP of the SVI (mentioned above).  I am using OSPF between those networks - and they can all talk fine.  I am using the 'default-information originate' command to obtain default route information. I have port Gi1/0/3 on the cisco device plugged into LAN port 4 on the ATT 5031 NV.  Port Gi 1/0/3 is configured with a static IP in the 192.168.1.x network as follows:
ip address 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 On the ATT 5031 NV:  Settings > broadband > link configuration, I have the 'cascaded network' option selected: Network Address:  10.1.0.0 Subnet Mask:  255.255.0.0 Choose the router that will host the secondary subnet:          [Cisco Device Hostname] 192.168.1.2 (IP of Gi1/0/3 on cisco device) When i do this - i can ping from the 10.x.x.x networks to both 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.254 IP's - but i cannot get out to the Internet (neither by IP or hostname).   I should metion that I have tried the DMZ pinhole option - where i made my Gi1/0/3 get an IP by DHCP > rebooted it > and I got my device to show up with a 108.225.x.x external IP (which again, my 10.x.x.x's could ping) but I could not ping the default gateway for that network. What am i missing here?  anyone have any ideas?  Config to follow:  !interface GigabitEthernet1/0/3

    Hi ,
With the cascaded router option, the purpose of that option is to pass over your static IPs so that your gateway handles the traffic. If you do have a set of static IPs available, the only thing you want to change is the cascaded router IP. The network address should be the IP of your router, so it would be 192.168.1.2 according to your setup.
If you are just trying to do a router behind router setup, you actually do not need to use the cascaded router option, and just putting it in DMZ should take care of everything.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can i get a connection w/my wireless laptop with this router (WRT54GS ) but not on the desktop?

I have an excellent signal w/this laptop (wireless) but when I try to use the desktop with the same router it wont go. Do I need driver download? Do I need an IP address for the router? I use tech support for connecting the desktop to the internet straight from the modem they sent me but because I didnot buy the router from them, they wont help me figure out once I plug in the router and setup more than one machine, i cant do it. Initailly, I setup everything w/my laptop being the main computer in my home until I got this desktop recently. So knowing the desktop is fine because it works straight from the modem,  and the laptop works w/the router and modem hooked up together but not the desktop, what the HECK is the problem? I dont have any cd or anything w/this router because when I moved, i never found the box it came in again. Is there someplace online I can find what I need? Im wondering how I will know if I have a response from someone on this thread? will I get an email from this site? gosh Im confused.

How you are trying to use the desktop...wired or wireless?
If you are trying to connect the computer to the router via an Ethernet cable then, try changing the cable.Check the ip address you are getting on the computer...
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...
If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...
If you get 4 replies then type ping 4.2.2.2 and press Enter, if you get request timed out, then you need to upgrade your router's firmware...If you get 4 replies then type ping yahoo.com and press Enter...If you get replies for Yahoo then you should get the Internet after adjusting the browser settings...
Adjusting Browser Settings : Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on OK...Close the IE and re-open it...
If yahoo times out then provide static DNS on your LAN Connection...
Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Local Area Connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the Following DNS Settings' Preferred DNS 4.2.2.2 Alternate DNS - 192.168.1.1>>Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...You should be able to go online...

  • PAP2T Wireless Conflict with WRT610 Router

I have a WRT610 Router with a PAP2T for my VOIP.  I have 5 PCs on the network.  Three wired and 2 wireless.  One of the wireless PCs looses connection when I dial out on the VOIP  The ips are not the same and the MAC addresses are diferent.
    Any thoughts?

Basically PAP2T is a phone adapter and run on DHCP...And there might be an IP Address conflict between your one computer and PAP2T...So, you may try giving the static ip to the computer....Go to start...control pannel...network connection and then right click on wireless network connection and click on properties...highlight "internet protocol tcp/ip" and click on properties.Choose use the following IP Address and put the ip address 192.168.1.10 and the default gateway 192.168.1.1(assuming your router is 192.168.1.1) and click on OK...It should work.

  • Host with same IP of default gateway. How to prevent?

    Hi,
I had a problem this week in the network. A host was plugged in the network with the same IP address of the default gateway of that Vlan.
Is there someway to prevent it? I know with 802.11x I could know who is doing that, but it would not avoid the problem to occur.
Is there anyway to force the hosts to use DHCP or something?

Hey there. You want to look at DHCP snooping ;-) Make sure you have a DHCP server configured, and DHCP snooping enabled on your switch. If a device tries to use any static assigned IP addresses, the switch interface will block it (it must be DHCP assigned). For your router interface, make sure you trust the interface (as you will have a static IP address assigned).
    Hope this helps, good luck

    Nyanko,
This will happen when you are using tunnel all as the split tunneling policy, the computer will encrypt all the traffic so the default gateway will be removed from the physical connection and placed into the virtual adapter. If you take a look at the routing table you will see that what really happens is that the original default route's metric will be changed so that it is higher than the one injected by the virtual adapter, once you disconnect it should go back to normal.

  • Routing with more than one default gateway

    Hi,
    here is my problem:
usually I'm using Internet with WLAN-connection. Sometimes I want to connect my mac additionally with the LAN on work. As soon as I plug in the ethernet, there is a new item in the routing table, so I have two default-gateways - one to the WLAN-router and one to the standard-gateway of my work's LAN.
So for example I cannot take new mails from my private pop-account and for using internet I have to register a proxy-server. That's circuitous!
My idea is to create a plist-file in launchDaemons-directory, that deletes the default-gateway-item to my work's standard-gateway and adds a net-route to this only for my work's network.
Is it really a good idea or nonsens? What's a better way?
    Thank you for your help!

So you want to do dual-homing.
First remember that Macs really are setup, out of the box, to be a one connection at time machine. And, there is a service order for interfaces. Which you can set in Systems Prefs Network.
However, I think this is what you are looking for:
    open a terminal and do:
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
This command will allow the Mac to use two defaults gateways. Then it will be up to you to populate the routing table with what route goes to what gateway.
To add a static route every time you boot (taking from Dr. V on techarena)
    http://forums.techarena.in/operating-systems/1187193.htm
    Code:
sudo route -nv add -net 192.168 -interface en0
To avoid having to do this everytime you reboot:
    Code:
cd /System/Library/StartupItems sudo cp -R NetworkExtensions NetworkLocal cd NetworkLocal sudo mv NetworkExtensions NetworkLocal sudo vi NetworkLocal
    - replace the startup section with the comand above:
    Code:
    #!/bin/sh  ## # Load network kernel modules ##  . /etc/rc.common  StartService () { ConsoleMessage "Loading Network Local" route -nv add -net 192.168 -interface en0 }  StopService () { return 0 }  RestartService () { return 0 }  RunService "$1" sudo vi StartupParameters.plist
    -- edit it to get
    Code:
{ Description = "Network Local"; Provides = ("NetworkLocal"); Requires = ("Network"); OrderPreference = "None"; }  cd Resources/English.lproj sudo vi Localizable.strings
    -- edit it to get:
    Code:
    (?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?) (!DOCTYPE plist SYSTEM "file://localhost/System/Library/DTDs/PropertyList.dtd") (plist version="0.9") (dict> (key>Loading Network Local(/key) (string>Loading Network Local(/string) (/dict) (/plist)
You could also edit the Network startup file and add the single line but that could get replaced if system is upgraded.

  • The Default Gateway Is Not Available / Problem

Hello, I recently purchased this HP Pavileon laptop, and I've been encountering this problem very often (every 2-10 minutes).  This problem is getting extremely frustrating as absolutely nobody has been able to provide a fix for this issue.
When the laptop is on battery mode (this does not happen when plugged in); I commonly get disconnected from my wi-fi connection and to fix it, I must run the troubleshooter. This temporarily fixes the issue by resetting the wi-fi adapter.
What I have tried and has not worked:
    * Turn off to save power option in the driver settings (in Device Manager) untickets
    * Updated drivers
    * New power plan
    * Tried different drivers
    * Complete system restore
The wireless adapter is Realtek RTL 8188EE.  Upon running the troubleshooter, this is all the information from the detailed information section:

  • Default Gateway when connected to VPN

    Thanks for reading!
This is probably a dump question so bear with me...
I have set up a VPN connection with a Cisco ASA 5505 fronting internet, with the customers environment behind it (on the same subnet), When connected ot the VPN I can reach the inside Router fronting me and one switch behind the Router (every switch is connected to the router), but nothing else.
My beet is that the Router is messing with my connection, but,, nevermind that!, the setup ain't complete anyway... my question is more related to the Gateway I'm missing when I'm, from the outside, is connected to the VPN on the ASA, could this mess it up? Shouldn't I have a Standard-Gateway in the ipconfig settings in windows?
This is who it looks like now:

I didn't realise I had that crypto settings on, thanks my bad!!!
But... the 172.16.12.0 network is directly connected, the Router (that to be honest is a firewall) / switches is all on the same subnet (172.16.12.X/24), so sorry I didn't explain thoroughly, was more wondering about the GW and didn't want to overcomplicate things..
The Firewall/Router dosen't do any routing, so it should work right (I you count out the firewalling in the firewall and so forth, there shouldn't be any problems accomplishing this with the ASA)? The Firewall is more a DHCP for the clients/Firwall for the clients.. this will change in the future.. it will be removed,
the vpn network is staticly routed back to my ASA in that firewall...
I don't like this solution.. but this is who it looks.. for now..
    (VPN network is 10.10.10.X/24)
But... shouldn't I see a default gateway under ipconfig when I'm connected to the VPN from internet, on the vpn client that's vpned in, is this correct?
    THANKS for all the help!

  • How to set default gateway

I have created two Virtual machine of windows server 2008 R2 (VM1 & VM2 respectively). I am configuring domain controller on VM1 and VM2 will be my member server.
My Host system is windows 7 and my ISP does NOT provide me with a static IP.
When I configure domain controller on VM1 it asks me to configure static IP address first. I have given 10.0.0.2 as a static IP on VM1 and the default value of subnet mask is populated.
For preferred DNS and Alternate DNS server I have given the same static IP address (i.e 10.0.0.2).
Note - As am planning to use the local computer (i.e VM1) as my preferred DNS and alternate DNS.
Q1) What should I set as the 'default gateway' on VM1 ?
Q2) Once I've set up the domain controller, can I configure DHCP server on VM1 and assign IP to VM2 ?
Q3) VM2 being a (domain)member server, can we assign static IP to it ? If yes What would be the values in gateway, Preferred DNS and Alternate DNS field ?

Thanks for answers. Doing this configuration for first time this is little confusing for me.
    @Milos
    Step No. 15 says
"If you do not have static IPv4 and IPv6 addresses assigned to your network adapters, a warning message might appear advising you to set static addresses for both of these protocols before you can continue."
    The warning message did appear.
Before I start to configure Active Directory Domain Services, I
will have to provide a static IP to the system. Correct?
I have two virtual machines (windows server 2008 R2) running on my VMware workstation. I do not require two domain controllers, my requirement is the first virtual machine (i.e VM1) should be the domain controller and the second virtual machine (i.e VM2) should
me a domain member server (NOT a domain controller or a child domain)
As you have explained, that Before you run DCPROMO,
    there is following configuration:
    IP address            10.0.0.2
    MASK                 255.0.0.0
    Deafault gateway  10.0.0.1  if
this is IP address of ryour outer.
    Preferred DNS     10.0.0.2
I would like to understand, is this what you mean by having a static IP ?
I am pasting three screenshot below,
1st) ipconfig of my host system.

  • How can I change default Gateway

I have been able to change the default gateway address with various routers from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1.  The purpose of changeing the gateway is I can connect via a VPN connection to my office.  I realized all the router on 1.1 wouldn't connect but all the router on 0.1 could.  I was with comcast before.
Now I have several computers (mine and other employee's) who cannot connect to the VPN as they are with verizon and all are on 1.1.  The problem is, verizon won't help and they say we need advanced network help and their not willing to assist.
Can anyone help me and does anyone know if it's possible?
    Thanks in advance.

Let me just throw in that I have an Actiontec router, not Westell, with FiOS, but I definitely have my router's IP set to 192.168.0.1.  DHCP range set to 192.168.0.100 thru .150.  All TV functions work, including remote DVR, mutl-room DVR, on-screen caller ID, and widgets.
I haven't needed any Verizon tech support (knock on wood) but if I did, I'd reset to the default values and once tech support was done, restore using a saved config file.

  • Wrt54g router v 8.2 -no default gateway

i have tried everything and this routher will not work!  I travel with it when i come home for the holidays and normaly i have to get some help from someone to figure out how to get the cpu to work along with the wireless.  at this point nothing is working.  the modem is a westell mo. 6100. all the lights are working and when i plug my laptop into the ethernet cord it works fine.    when the modem is pluged into the router and the ethernet cord is pluged from port one to the back of the cpu   the cpu says there is an issue with its ip address being the same as something elses.  the wireless ssid pops up and i can connect to it with my macbook but the internet does not work at all. I can connect to the router through 192.168.1.1 and have security setup etc.  imy mac address shows up in the dhcp clients list....  in the status tab everything looks normal except the default gateway is  all zeros.
anybody have any idea what is happening?
i would like to be able to get the net on the cpu as well as wireless at the same time but if i could just get the wireless to atleast work that would be great
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you are not able to see any Default gateway under the Status Tab, Because your Modem and Router Shares the Same IP address on the Network.... To make your Computers go Online from the Linksys Router... Login to the Linksys Router setup page and below the setup tab change the "Local IP address" to 192.168.2.1 and click on Save Settings... and then you need to Power Cycle your Network.....
Unplug the Power from the Router and and Modem, wait for 30sec and then first plug the power to your Modem and once all the lights are lid on your Modem, then you can plug the power to the Linksys Router..
Now check if you are able to go online from your computer Hardwired to the router.

  • VRF , Management access only and default gateway

    Hello
I am preparing (3) new devices to become my new WAN. The topology looks like,
ASR1002x - Has management int and dg for remote access.
Also has DG to WAN ISP via BGP
3750x stack - Has management int and dg for remote access.  (ip vrf management 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 (Management vlan hsrp ip))
Also has DG to ASR hsrp - which causes the Management access to drop.
ASA5545x - Has management int and dg for remote access.
Also has DG to ASR hsrp - which causes the Management access to drop.
I MUST KEEP THESE NEW DEVICES OFF THE PRODUCTION NETWORK TO AVOID ANY POSSIBLE ROUTING ISSUES.
I have implemented unique EIGRP instances between the new devices.
These new devices have a management interface so I can access them remotely. I configured the default gateway pointing to the HSRP of the management Vlan and I have remote access.
Obviously I cannot have (2) default gateways out different interfaces, without assigning one with higher admin.
What should my management default gateway look like so I can have remote access to the device and still have the WAN/LAN routing work as needed??

found another thread with some suggestions, maybe it helps at the moment.
