is there no other way than the batch file??
i have the notepad.jar and the problem is, i also need to pass argument to this jar file..
but i cant use the association using a .jar fileI'm pretty sure that you can pass arguments using batch files, but if not, you can always pass arguments to a native executable written in, oh, say, c. In fact, you could even write a quick Java program, and use one of those fancy native compilers for java to do this.

  • Office 2013 click-to-run does not honor deselecting 'Make Outlook the default program' checkbox

We use an email client other than Microsoft Outlook (let's say Thunderbird)
Thunderbird is set as the default mail client for the machine (HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail\(default) set appropriately)
Occasionally, we launch Outlook (but absolutely do not want it as the default mail client for the machine).  About 30 seconds after launching Outlook, we see that the Windows default mail client changes to Microsoft Outlook. The 'Make Outlook the default
program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar' checkbox in File->Options is disabled.
Further investigation with ProcMon indicates that a SYSTEM service called integrator.exe starts up about 30 seconds after we launch Outlook.  This service changes the HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail\(default) registry key to be Microsoft Outlook.
We have tested with multiple non-Outlook email clients, and the behavior is always the same.
This only happens on click-to-run installs of Office 2013.  Regular installs of Office 2013 do not have the problem.  Older versions of Outlook do not have the problem.
What can we do to get Outlook to honor the 'Make Outlook the default program' setting?

    Kapaal -
Thanks for your reply.  Your blog post would certainly work if this was just a user-mode app that was making the change, but that's not the case with Office 2013.
The integrator.exe process that is making the change is part of Microsoft's Click-to-Run system.  It runs as a service with local system access, and thus would have full access to the key.  I might be able to lock it down by creating a second system
admin account and playing games with it - but that will make it very difficult to actually change the value when I want it do be changed, and I really shouldn't have to be doing workarounds to prevent Office itself from doing this.

  • When viewing documents on a Web Server, IE automatically opens a blank page and then opens the document in the default program. The blank screen should close automatically but isn't happening.

So here is the situation, my company uses a third party scanning software, that puts documents scanned or created onto a webserver. We use a program that grants a user access to view the documents on the webserver. The user will have to log into the system
using credentials, we have Kerberos doing this. Once the user is logged onto the system they navigate to the document they want to view or edit. So the user wants to view a .pdf file, they click the document they want, and it is supposed to open in the default
program associated with file extension. ie: .doc would open Word, .xls would open Excel. When the document is loading in the default program Internet Explorer opens a blank page, this page is supposed to prompt the user if they want to open or save the document.
(I changed the registry to have the files selected to automatically open without this prompt.) The blank screen generated is still staying open, this screen is supposed to close automatically after the prompt or close automatically after the document is opened.
So when a user is looking at several documents, this floods the screen with all these blank Internet Explorer pages. This problem is only occurring for users that have Windows 7 PC's, XP users do not have this problem at all. My PC is the only one in the company
that is Windows 7 64-bit, and working properly with the IE blank page automatically closing. I'm wondering what can be done to fix this problem, is it as simple as registering some .dll files or do I need to make a registry change? Any help would greatly be
    appreciated.

What is the registry change exactly?  Sounds like one which is supposed to avoid the prompt.  I know
that there used to be such a thing, before the new prompt and I know that some users think that there should be such a thing for any program but I'm not sure if that expectation is valid or not.  I think this may also be related to a concurrent change
in the OS.  E.g. in XP we had File Types Options editor but starting in Vista that was removed.  You might get some more clues on this tack from NirSoft's FileTypesMan utility.
The registry change that I did was to remove the open and save prompt. I will be sure to look into that. Our company
isn't worried about the user's automatically opening the files since they are all trusted. They also do not have the ability to install anything, so if they were to download a potentially harmful file they could never install it. We monitor downloads as well,
if they download files off the internet that aren't work related we remove their download capabilities.
Sounds like a scenario for using ProcMon to take two traces and compare them for their essential differences.
I talked to my boss about using this tool and he is worried about using it. I'm only an intern at my office and do not have the authority to use a program without their knowledge or consent. I will run the idea by them again and see if it's okay I use this.
I'll maybe make some presentation about how it can help us with our problem and how much time and money it will save. Because I really want to get down to the bottom of this.
Probably the most significant thing is going to be the Content-type that the files are being served by.
You could use the Developer Tools, Network Capture to check on that and ProcMon could help explain what happens after that.  A related workaround to change the symptom when the Content-type is not what is expected is to disable MIME Sniffing (e.g. in
Security options, Miscellaneous section).  In fact, perhaps that could explain your machine's difference with anyone else?  MIME Sniffing is a default, previously known as "save according to type not extension" (or some such wording).
Okay I will be completely honest I have no idea how to use Developer Tools (F12), yes I could google it, when I tried using it on the blank pages it would never work, I also have no idea what I'm looking at. I should mention that I do not have access to
the web server. Our programming and development side only has access to our AS400, which is where the web server is located. I do have MIME Sniffing enabled and so does everyone else. I may be wrong but, I believe it is needed in order to open the file extension
in the correct default program, yes? I thought MIME Sniffing would see a .docx file and then find the appropriate program to open that .docx file in. I may be wrong but I know it's used somehow along these lines.

  • Windows 8.1 (running in VMware Fusion 6) keeps resetting my default program associations after rebooting

I tried to set Google Chrome as my default browser in Windows 8.1 (virtual machine running in VMware Fusion 6) but somehow mysteriously failed over and over again.
According to Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\Set Program Associations, there are 19 possible associations for Google Chrome:
    Extensions: .htm, .html, .shtml, .webp, .xht, .xhtml;
Protocols: FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, IRC, MAILTO, MMS, NEWS, NNTP, SMS, SMS, SMSTO, TEL, URN, WEBCAL
I have no problem selecting some of them, or "set this program as default" so that "this program has all its defaults." (I am the only admin user, but not the builtin admin account.)
However, after restarting the VM, the program associations for Google Chrome will reset on its own. Specifically,
"this program has all its defaults" becomes "this program has 14 out of 19 defaults", losing the following five crucial protocols:
    FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, MAILTO, NEWS
And these protocols simply hang there unassociated—they don't belong to IE either.
So I am extremely confused; how could the system reset my default program associations? What's wrong?
    In case it is relevant, I will also post my VMware Fusion VM Default Applications settings here. All of the options are unchecked: "Open your Mac files and links using Windows applications"; "Open your Windows files and links using Mac applications";
"Run Windows applications from your Mac's Applications folder."
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi,
I have the same issue, and I've posted on the vmware forums with no responses other than another person having the same issue.
Have you been able to fix this? I tried importing the same VM into Parallels and the problem goes away. If I do a manual uninstall of Fusion (and remove VMWare tools from the VM), and then reinstall both, the problem goes away - temporarily. I had a few
good months, and it started again. Followed the procedure mentioned, and it went away again, but only survived a few reboots.
FYI, it's definitely not an issue with Chrome, as I'm having the same issue with Firefox (although I can duplicate on chrome as well).
    Have you figured anything out?
    Thanks!

  • No Email Association Created for Default Program in Windows 8.1 for Office 2013

    Dear Sir or Madame:
I am unable to send an email in Microsoft Office 2013 in Windows 8.1. The message I am receiving states the I have no email to perform the requested action. Therefore, I cannot send an email from Office 2013 or any other application that allows this function,
for example, from my scanner. How do I create an association in the Default Program on Control Program for emails to be sent from Word, Scanner, or any other application, which offers an email feature? Help me!

    Hi,
I'm a bit confused with your description, did you mean that the option "send to mail" doesn't work any more?

  • Unable to set default program for .pdf

    CURRENT PROBLEM:
As show in print screen, when i attempt to set default program nth happens at all. The only way i can open any .pdf file now is by 1st opening adobe reader 9 and select the .pdf file manually
    INITIAL STAGE OF PROBLEM:
Problem started after upgrading to windows 7 from vista. Windows 7 is able to recognise adobe reader 8 as a valid default program since it is in windows.old. Thus the default for .pdf is adobe reader 8 (it was installed in vista).
Subsequently, installing adobe reader 9 isof  no use as it will be ignored and windows 7 will only continue to use adobe reader 8 as the default reader when i try to open a .pdf file, unless if i manually opened adobe reader 9 and selected a .pdf file manaually
However, I am unable to uninstall adobe reader 8 as the "program and feature" can only identify adobe reader 9 and does not think that adobe reader 8 exists.
    ATTEMPTs TO SOLVE:
Thus, I removed windows.old by using the disk cleanup. However, I am still unable to set adobe reader 9 as the default reader. Instead, .pdf are no longer accessible/"open-able" unless I 1st opened adobe reader 9 and then selected a .pdf manaually.
I've attempted reinstalling and restarting comps etc, they dun seem to help. I suspect the OS is now only able to recognise adobe reader 8 from windows.old as a valid program directory due to some registry issues since it was initally set as the default when i 1st upgraded the OS. Now that adobe reader 8 is removed, there might be some corrupted registry somewhere that needs to be set right again?
Really need help with this. Thanks a million.

Thanks guys for showing interest in helping.
As you guys can see, there's no adobe reader when u expand. Also, I already browsed the reader just in case too. Thus expanding doesnt help. =(
Also, I cant seem to find the "file type" tab in folder options

  • How do I set Adobe Flash Player as the default program to open SWF files?

    Basic Overview
I have this working fine at my home laptop, however I need this working for projects at school.
Whenever I want to open an SWF file at home, I simply double click it and open it in Adobe Flash Player (Adobe Flash Player 10.0 r22) and I have no problems!
However, when I am at school I have to run SWF files within Internet Explorer, Adobe Flash Player IS installed, but the SWF files are not opened in that directly, they are opened within Internet Explorer.
    At Home
If I right click an SWF file at home and select "Open With" and then "Choose Default Program...", Adobe Flash Player is already there under the name 'Adobe Flash Player 10.0 r22', so I can simply select it as the default. (On my home laptop)
    At School
At school if go to "Open With" and then "Choose Default Program...", Adobe Flash Player IS NOT there, only Internet Explorer and some other programs in the other programs box. (On my school laptop)
    Question
How can I assign Adobe Flash Player as the default program for opening SWF files (on my school laptop)? If I select "Browse..." and go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\Macromed\Flash there is no file with a description of 'Adobe Flash Player 10.0 r22', is the file for the actual program located somewhere else or have I just no looked properly in the folder?
I really need these files opening in Adobe Flash Player directly and not in Internet Explorer (I know you can set the view to 100% and have it sized correctly)
Thanks you to everyone who helps!
-Charlie! (Yes I know I don't need to write this in a forum)

The standard Flash Player is a browser add-on, and not a standalone player.  So what actually opens when you open an SWF file at home?  Flash Player Projector?
If so, you also need to download it at your school, from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, then do the file association.

  • Setting Photoshop CC 2014 as my "Default Program" to open JPEG files in Windows 7

I just installed Photoshop CC 2014 on my Windows 7 computer. I had set Photoshop as my "Default Program" to open up JPEG files. Now whenever I double-click a JPEG file, Photoshop CC will launch instead of Photoshop CC 2014. I have noticed that the executable files for all versions of Photoshop are "Photoshop.exe" (no wonder Windows gets confused). If I changed the name of the executable file for Photoshop CC 2014 to something like "Photoshop2014.exe" then Windows will let me choose the program as my "Default Program" to open up a JPEG, however this makes it impossible for me to open up files in Lightroom. Lightroom will default back to Photoshop CC.
I have changed the name of the executable file for Photoshop CC 2014 back to "Photoshop.exe" and renamed all the executable files for my legacy versions of Photoshop. This still does not work.
Do I need to make some types of change in the registry?

This is from the post at this site: Re: Adobe CS6 file associations are all messed up
Just change the directory to the correct EXE for cc 2014 and you should be good.

Here is a registy fix for Win7 machines to the file association problem.
    This from TinusHDCA user:
I installed Photoshop CS6, then found CS5 was still there. I thought, hey, I don't need CS5 anymore, so I uninstalled CS5. then I found out that Photoshop was no longer available in 'Open with' when right-clicking an image...
    So I went into the Registry, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and changed the (Default) from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" (so changed CS5 to CS6) - and now I see 'Adobe Photoshop CS6' in my 'Open with' list when right-clicking an image...

  • How to disable APP and change default program in registry

    Dear all,
it is possible to disable all the app (that appears in the start screen) in Windows 8.1?
Our users are a little bit confused and we prefer to use the old program (example Windows Photo Viewer and not Photos APP).
Let me know if it is possible and how to do it.
If yes, where we can edit the registry key to make the default program Windows Photo Viewer? And other programs? We would like to set Windows Photo Viewer as default app on all our computer in domain. It is possibile to edit this setting in registry?
    And not manual from GUI?
Our PC are in a domain.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
According to your description, you want to open the file without using metro app.
We don't need to disable all metro app.
You can use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool to change the default programs associated with a file name extension.
1.Deploy your Windows image to a test computer.
2 Log into Windows and use Control Panel to configure your default application associations.
3.You can export the default application associations that you have configured to an XML file on a network share or USB drive. For example, at a command prompt type the following command:
    Dism /Online /Export-DefaultAppAssociations:\\Server\Share\AppAssoc.xml
4.Use GP server to enable the following group policy to modify the default Associations on the client machine.
    Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>File explorer>Set a default associations configuration file.
Regarding how to export or Import Default Application Associations, please refer to the following article:

  • Starting to like it...but, really confused concerning ingest. Need thoughts.

I have made the switch from 7 to X and will remain committed to X but I really need some help understanding bringing media in. First some background on my workflow and media type.
I shoot with the JVC 700U camera in 720p. The format is XDCAM EX at 35 mbps. I produce a football highlight program which is an hour in duration. Been doing this for over twenty years and have made a decent living at it. It is broadcast on local cable and streamed on the web.
Here is what I really need to understand before I can feel comfortable with X. I bring in the footage from an SDHC card. Do I optimize the media? Someone said that even if I check that box that FCP X will not transcode that media if it doesn't need to. Really confused on that. I have found that I should not analyze the media for shake. That takes forever! Now, If FCP X does not transcode, why is the file a ProRes 422 when I export the timeline? Confused again. And, that 422 master ofcourse is huge. I would really appreciate if I could get some folks help me on this.
Also, I used to export a reference movie in FCP 7. That made things quicker when encoding to H.264 file for the web using Compressor. No more ref movie?
Like I said earlier, the interface is starting to grow on me but I really need to fully understand the ingest process.
Thanks for any and all input. ( pardon the pun )
    Cheers.
    Tom

Checking the box for optimize media transcodes all imported media to ProRes 422.  This is desirable if you have an underpowered machine or a lot of difficult to handle formats.  Leaving the box unchecked will only transcode media that FCP X can't play natively.
In the first case, FCP X will allow you to work with the native files until the transcode is complete.  Then it will seemlessly switch the links over to the Pro Res files.  Transcoding takes place in the background but you'll be unable to quit FCP X until it's finished, or you suspend it.  The only time it doesn't transcode is if the original file is already Pro Res.
When you export from FCP, you have several options.  If you want a full raster master export, you can use the Export Movie option (CMD+E) to export as Pro Res or H264.  If the project wasn't transcoded, you'll also have options for the codec that you were editing in.  For example, if you were cutting DVCProHD footage, you would have that as an option in the Export Movie presets.
Otherwise, you can choose: Send to Compressor for all other compression formats.  Send to Compressor creates a reference file and loads it automatically into Compressor.  Then you can apply whatever preset you wish and transcode it.  Then go back to Final Cut and continue editing.
Do not use the Export with Compressor Settings choice as it will tie up FCP X while it's transcoding (unless you hit the Send to Compressor button in which case it's the same as the above choice).

  • Default Programs not saving (DInc2)

    Evening folks.
Let me start by saying that I love my phone. I really do, and its almost perfect, except for one problem. For whatever reason, default programs will no longer save as defaults, specifically home replacement apps. I've checked the box when the dialogue comes up to make the app a default, but the setting never sticks. I've gone to the settings menu and tried clearing defaults, and that didn't help. I even did a factory reset and that STILL did not resolve the issue.
So, all you techies out there in the vast interwebs, help?

    > "seek support"...is this related?
Hard to say but I don't think so, you need to call Apple and tell them that hardware test result though it probably means a component/motherboard replacement.
I think that error is Temperature sensor related, has it been overheating ?
Have you applied the SMC and Firmware updates yet ?

  • *Really confused* on how to install Vista 64 using BC

OK, so I'm now proud owner of a "Harpertown" model Mac Pro Quad Core 2.8, and I want to install Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on it. I have read that you can definitiely install this Windows OS on this model of Mac.
I have three components here – I've installed and upgraded to 10.5.3, and I have a copy of Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 in my Utilities folder. I just picked up a Vista Ultimate x64 full install disc (don't have the x32 disc). And now I'm downloading Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Windows Vista 64.
The thing is, I remember reading that I needed the 2.1 update to have the right drivers to install x64. But the 2.1 update is an exe file, meaning I need to have Windows installed already to use it.
Now I'm really confused – can somebody explain to me (or point me to a web page that does this) how to install an x64 version of Vista using Boot Camp? Do I need anything else other than BC Assistant 2.0, BC Update 2.1 for Windows Vista 64, and the Vista x64 full-install disc?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter
    Message was edited by: pgwerner

    Hey, it worked!
I was worried that the installation wouldn't work unless I had the correct drivers in place before I even started, but I guess that wasn't the case.
For anybody who runs across this message in a future search, I recommend the the Boot Camp Installation pdf, which cleared up a lot of confusion for me:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/BootCampInstall-Setup.pdf
What I hadn't realized is that what's on the Mac side is Boot Camp Assistant and that Boot Camp proper is a Windows program. The Boot Camp 2.1 Update would be run after installing Boot Camp from the Leopard CD ("Step 3" in the above manual).
I really like Vista, BTW – its the first Windows OS where I actually like the look and feel of it ("look" and "feel" being one reason I generally stick with Mac OS), so thanks to Hatter for recommending it. Still sticking with Mac OS as my mainstay, but its really nice to have both.

  • Lightroom 4 not in Windows default programs - can't associate it

LR4 will not appear in Windows 7 default programs and access as a default program to choose. Microsoft says it is becasue it does not appear in the Windows registry and to contact the manufacturer. How do I get LR4 registered in Windows 7? If I have to reinstall what do I need to do to protect my file structures, etc.?
    Ed

Ed and Brian, you are not supposed to be able to associate LR with image files such as camera raw files or jpgs as a way to import them.  Lightroom opens catalogs, .lrcat files.  LR imports images once a catalog is already open.
If LR is somehow associated as the opener for image files, which it used to allow, it mistakenly attempts to open the image file(s) as a catalog database and gets confused, perhaps assigning this image as the default catalog, or worse it can corrupt the image.
If LR is already open, you can drag-and-drop images onto the central area in Library mode to import them more easily than using File Import but you have to start up LR manually.

    Thanks in advance,

Hi skymedic: Quite easy to set the default program actually. Find a file you need to open, single click. then Right Click and select "Get Info". When this window opens, select the program to be used then click "Change All'. Please note you will need to do this for all file types you want to open with Office. EG: .DOC .PPS .PPT .XLS etc..
