Deleting Profile Folders - Access is Denied

Hi all! So here's my dilemma... I'm attempting to delete old profile folders from machines with a limited amount of remaining space on their C:\. This came about when we found a machine with 1GB of memory left and approximately 240 stale profiles. I'm wondering
what the best way to accomplish this is. I've attempted to simply delete the folders from the machine but get an "access to the path $PATH is denied." I've verified that I'm the owner and that I'm running as an admin but to no success. Is this the
way I even want to do this???
(I realize that this can be done far easier on newer versions of PS but I'm the only one with an updated version, which I'm not sure if I'm even allowed to have...*Shhhhhh*.... So I've been trying to write for PS 2.0. Which could possibly be why I'm running
into so many issues. The script is being written for a different group of people to make their lives easier.)
Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm thinking I might have to do this... I was wanting to try and avoid this. I'll see what this can do though. Thanks!
I'm curious, why don't you want to use the tool?
If you really want to script something, here's a starting point:

  • Unable to edit or delete profile in Access Connection 5

    Hi Everybody!
I'm unable to edit or delete profiles in Access Connection on my T41 running latest Access Connection v5.
The edit and delete buttons on the Access Connection Profile menu are shown only in light grey color and it's not possible to click them. I have administrator rights on my machine. These profiles were initially migrated from a very old v3 (automatically during system update) and I guess that this is one of the root causes of my problem.
I have also tried to use the QCTRAY.EXE /DEL command, but that's also not working. The profiles just remain there unchanged.
I would be very pleased if somebody could give me a hint on how to overcome this boring problem.
    Best regards,
    Helmut
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

v3 profiles are not compatible with v5.
The best solution in your case would be to uninstall Access Connections with profiles and then reinstall and create new profiles.

  • I moved itunes file to external hard drive and want to move the file on my pc to recycle bin. When I move i get an error message that it cannot delete ituneshelper.dll access is denied. Can I move that file to the recycle bin?

I am trying to free up space on my pc and moving itunes files to external hard drive. I have followed instructions and believe I have file copied to new drive, but I am having trouble moving file to recycle bin as the instructions say. I am getting the following error message: cannot delete ituneshelper.dll:access denied, make sure disk is not full or write protected and file not in use. I know the file is not in use when trying to move. Any help would be most appreciated. I am on Windows XP.

Yes. And you should not have moved that folder. Put it back. To move your iTunes library move the folder from User's Music.

  • When I try to delete this extention access is denied?

I am trying to delete the integrated email (gmail) that I installed. I have nothing but trouble with my mail since I installed it is constantly saying that gmail is not responding and I don't use my cell phone for web purposes or to check my mail, so I really have no need for this.

Is it an album that was synced over from your computer? If so, the only way to delete that album will be to deselect it in iTunes and do a sync. That will erase it from the device

  • 'The operation could not be completed. Access is denied' during delete.

    Hello World,
Something happened while working in my Visual Studio 2010 Professional environment.
When I delete a member from my Solution Explorer, it disappears from the memberlist, is marked as 'locked, deleted' and can be removed from TFS using Check-In. But during the delete process I get the message 'The operation could not be completed. Access
    is denied.'
I'm an Administrator on my computer (manually adding/deleting members in my workspace and/or directly in TFS is not a problem). I get this message for every delete I perform, even in other Solutions!
The member will remain in my workspace however.
Can anyone help me with this problem please?
    Thanks,

    Hi GuySwagten,
Based on your description, the files you're trying to delete are locked by other team members of your team project in server workspace. You can have a check with your team members or check the hisotries of the files to see the lock information.
    Please refer to this
page to get more information about TFS lock types. And you can ask the team member to unlock the files if you want to delete them or do other operations.

  • Firefox.exe application error, tried uninstalling firefox but will not delete Scriptff.dll says access is denied. so i can't make a complete clean reinstall. how do i fix this?? thanks!

saw in previous questions that to fix this application error, i need to uninstall and do a clean install of firefox. however, Scriptff.dll says that access is denied and can not be deleted from the program files. how can i fix this so i can run a clean install?

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

  • After refomatting HDD, reinstalling Vista plus service packs, recovering files from Microsoft backup and installing new copy of Firefox 3.6, Firefox will not run. Have deleted all old M0zilla profile folders and reinstalled Firefox again to no avail.

After computer would not boot and could not be repaired, I reformatted the HDD, reinstalled Vista plus all service packs and updates, recovered files from Microsoft backup and installed new copy of Firefox 3.6. Firefox will not run.
I have deleted all old M0zilla profile folders and reinstalled Firefox again to no avail.
After intallation was completed, the automatic startup just placed a small box on the screen "Import wiz". This just sat there with no activity. After I closed this box, none of the Firefox start buttons would open the program -- just the blue rotating icon for about 2 seconds then nothing.

  • Select certificate - 403 Forbidden: Access is denied in Safari

Safari is asking to 'Select Certificate' for a website.
It shows two certificates the old one which expired in Feb last year and the current one which is set to expire in 3011!
Regardless which one you choose it comes back with....
    Server Error
403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.
p.s. This is the current version on Windows Vista and have replicated it on another computer. Have tried uninstalling (and deleteing all Apple's hidden updaters/helpers and all folders in the setting/program files areas). Then re-installed and exactly the same problem comes back.
Tried it on a Mac too with the same problem.
The website is www.amplicon.com and the certificate is issued by 'COMODO CA Limited'

Your right, it works fine from my home. Just tried it on the Mac here. But it was a client that first informed us of the problem and trying it from the office on both Mac and PC Safari fialed but all other browsers were fine.
At the office everything is synced to the network time clock, and I can tell you we would know if the time was wrong...
But as it was fialing on both the Mac and PC versions in the same building it seems like it's not a OS issue, maybe it's our DNS server or something on the windows network that Safari is not dealing with that well, but other browsers seem to have no problems with.
We did change SSL supplier recently, maybe it's only a problem with browsers that have had the old and new certificate running in the browser.
I would just think it was an internal issue, but as it was reported by a regular client it is obviously replicable in more than one location.
Is there any hidden places Safari hides the certificate info that would not get removed when you uninstall Safari? Like in the registry or in windows somewhere, if so is there a way to clear it. Or could it be getting it from a cache somewhere on the network?
It's not really a big issue as we don't have many Safari users, but we do like to make sure Safari is supported and works on the site.

  • Error Message when logging on "The Group Policy Client service failed the logon. Access is denied"

Since the move to Windows 7 we have started getting this error above when people login at random times and on random machines, at first we thought it was only a select few users, but now it seems to have occurred to about 20 different Staff members working
at the school. Also of those 20 odd users it has happened to them on a few occasions.
    What we know
We know this problem is only occurring to staff with Roaming Profiles, it seems like somehow the profile is not Synchronizing with the Servers File Share that houses the profiles, which causes the NTUSER.DAT file to become corrupt and go from being around
2 – 3 MBs to 256KB (In all cases where a user has had this issue there NTUSER.DAT file has been 256KB)
    Current Resolution to the problem
When a staff member contact us with this problem, we fortunately have Previous Versions working on the profiles folder on the server, so we are able to restore their NTUSER.DAT file from 1 to 2 days before it became corrupt, which then seems to allow them
    to log on fine
What we have tried so far & suggested so far
After some research on Google, we found the following thread on EduGeek
    http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/78733-windows-7-user-profile-failed-error-again.html#post700415
Which suggested that the problem may lay within registry, so we implemented the Script that was posted on the website, however this has not seemed to make any difference
In the early stages when only 5 – 10 staff seemed to be having the problem, we believed the issue could be with just certain AD accounts. It had not seemed to happen to any recently created AD accounts so we thought it could be a corrupt attribute on
the user so we delete one of the staff AD accounts that had the problem and creating a brand new one, however within about 2 – 3 weeks that staff member had the issue occur again
Leading on from point two, we also thought the problem could be with people using multiple computers, logging on in 2 places and not logging off properly, but unfortunately the staff member referred to in point 2 only uses the one computer in reception.
Another potential cause that we figured might be the route of the problem, was it could be specific computers that are not communicating properly with the server, which could be causing this problem to occur, but we have no real way of testing this,
as the staff generally log onto 3 – 4 different computers throughout the day and in different location
We log a call with EE and they just pointed us to various websites that we had already checked and wasn’t much help.
    In Summary
This error has now occurred with about 20 members of staff, we currently only use Windows 7 at our Senior School & Moving to Windows 7 at our Prep School in the Summer
holidays, we would like to find out the route of this problem ideally before then, as we could potentially be doubling the amount of staff with the problem after the move. Has anyone else seen this problem or have a brain wave on how to solve it?
    Regards
    Andy

    Hi Dudleya,
First of all ,I would suggest to check the permissions of the NTUSER.DAT registry hive .Here is a link for reference :

  • Group Policy client Service Error - Access is denied

    I am
at domain admin working on windows 7 roaming profiles, testing with a
staff user.  I am in a domain environment.  I have changed the
profile path for a user to the folder I created for new windows 7 roaming
profiles.  gave it all the permissions noted here and followed these steps
at Microsoft's deploying roaming profiles page for win 7.<o:p></o:p>
once I logged in the user,
it created their profile.v2 but I still couldn't access it.  getting
access denied.  so I went back and changed the staff roaming profile back
to the original profile path.  didn't make any group policy changes.
but now she gets group policy client service failed to logon. access is
denied.  I have deleted the .v2 profile that win 7 creates in her old
profile path, moved her profile path back to what is was before testing,
retested her xp profile which does work and she can login and work.
but the win 7 machines no matter where she logs in, will not work.  they
all give the same error about group policy client service failed.  no
other users are having this problem

    Hi,
Regarding the issue here, have you checked the below thread?
    Group
Policy Client Service Failed the logon - Access Denied: Windows 7 Ultimate/Server 2008 R2
Please take a try with the steps mentioned by Nina Liu.
    QUOTE here:
At this time, let’s refer to the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Open registry editor on the problematic Windows 7 machine (please log in as domain admin)
    2. Highlight HKEY_USERS, choose File -> Load Hive, browse to the location of one failing roaming profile and open NTUSER.DAT file, click open
    3. Under Key Name, enter any name you like, but remember what you have entered, such as enter "test"
    4. Expand, HKEY_USERS, you should see new registry hive called "test" or any name you entered earlier
    5. Right click on that "test" hive and choose permissions. Confirm that the following users have permissions:
    - Administrators: Full Control
    - SYSTEM: Full Control
    - User (or group) that owns this profile: Full Control
    6. If the permissions were wrong, correct them, then click on Advanced tab, on Advanced tab and enable "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries
shown here that apply to child objects" and click Apply.
    7. Highlight "test" registry hive, then click on File -> Unload Hive to release handle on NTUSER.DAT file.
    8. Log off and log on with the failing roaming profile you have just modified.
Any process, please feel free to contact us.
    Best regards

    Hello,
we have an upgraded from 2010 Sharepoint Sharepoint 2013 site, and i believe, since i pressed the "make it 2013" Button, normal users cannot create sub sites anymore.

  • "SCRIPT5: Access is denied" error when accessing web sites using LocalStorage

We are having an issue with Internet Explorer 10 affecting users on a number of our Windows 8 workstations. When a user visits a web site that uses the Local Storage feature of HTML5, the page is not displayed correctly. For example, if you visit this page:
    http://jsfiddle.net/xFtQR/
You should see text in the grey boxes in the lower-right hand corner if everything is working. For the affected users, nothing is displayed. In addition, if you open the F12 Developer Tools and reload the page, the following error message is displayed: "SCRIPT5:
Access is denied.". It appears the LocalStorage feature is broken for these users.
From the troubleshooting I've done so far, I've determined that this issue does not affect the Local Administrator account on these computers, but it does affect any domain user and any new local user I create, whether the local user is in the Administrators
group or not. This leads me to believe the issue may be related to the default user profile in the image that was applied to these computers.
    Other observations:
Performing a complete reset of Internet Explorer settings (from Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced) does not resolve the issue
These sites do work correctly after turning off Protected Mode for the Internet Zone (from Tools > Internet Options... > Security)
These sites also work correctly when InPrivate Browsing is turned on
I've tried using Process Monitor to determine whether access is being blocked to a folder. On a working computer, iexplore.exe creates a file within a folder at C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStore. I can't see
anything on an affected computer that would prevent IE from creating this folder, as the security settings on the folder all appear to be correct.
The location of this folder appears to be stored in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\LowCache\Extensible Cache\DOMStore. I've tried copying this key from a working computer and blanking
it out entirely to have IE recreate it, but neither resolved the issue. I've even gone as far as to try and compare an export of the registry from the default user profile from a working system and an affected system but I haven't been able to pinpoint any
differences which I thought might be relevant.
I've tried the "Internet Explorer Performance" and "Internet Explorer Safety" troubleshooters in the Control Panel.
Here are some links to articles on other sites which make reference to the same (or a similar) issue:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie10-windows_7/ie10-script5-access-is-denied/e87bdb30-7f2a-4510-bfa3-a22b995f777b
    http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/357825-ie10-script5-access-is-denied
    https://github.com/meteor/meteor/issues/1291
Unlike these other cases, deleting an affected user's profile does not resolve the issue (further bolstering my theory that the issue is due to an issue in the default profile in my case).
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide!

With some excellent detective work by Microsoft Product Support (thanks Siddarth!), the solution has been found.
It turns out that in addition to the security settings on a folder, there is an integrity setting. More information about it is
    here.
The integrity setting on the AppData\LocalLow folder in each user's profile is supposed to be set to "Low" (hence the name, presumably). In our case, the integrity level was not set correctly on this folder. To rectify the problem, we will need
to run the following command under each user's profile (with a login script, for example):
    icacls %userprofile%\Appdata\LocalLow /t /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)L
As for how this incorrect setting was propagated in the first place, it is because the LocalLow folder in the C:\Users\Default\Appdata folder in our customized OS image had the wrong setting. The C:\Users\Default folder is the template for a new user profile,
so each new user on these computers was affected. I examined the C:\Users\Default\AppData folder on another machine without a customized user template and found the LocalLow folder is not present at all, so in our environment we will be deleting the C:\Users\Default\AppData\LocalLow
from each machine to prevent the issue from affecting future new users.
EDIT: If the command above does not resolve the issue, the registry key that points to the low integrity DOMStore folder may have been changed. Check the
CachePath registry value at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\LowCache\Extensible Cache\DOMStore. It should be
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStore.

  • When I login to my bank, I get the message: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Have new MacBook Air with Yosemite. How to solve this problem?

When I try to login to the website of my bank, I get the following error message:
403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.
I have a new MacBook Air with OS Yosemite installed.
What is the problem and how can I solve it?

Some websites require a special client certficate for access. If you don't have that certficate, you'll have to contact the site operator to find out how to get one.
Sometimes the problem is caused by a web server that is configured to request an optional client certificate. Safari treats the request as mandatory. In that case, other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome may be able to connect to the site, because they ignore the request.
The first time you were prompted for a certificate, you may have clicked through a dialog that requested access to the Apple certificate in your keychain that is used to secure the iMessage service. In that case, you may be able to regain access to the site in Safari by doing as follows.
    Back up all data.
Double-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    com.apple.idms.appleid.prd
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Paste into the search field in the Keychain Access window by clicking in it and pressing the key combination command-V. An item may appear in the list of keychain items. The Name will begin with string you searched for, and the Kind will be "certificate."
Delete the item by selecting it and pressing the delete key. It will be recreated automatically the next time you launch the Messages or FaceTime application.
The next time you visit a site that prompts for an optional client certificate, cancel out of the prompt. You may have to do this several times before the server stops asking.

  • Credential Roaming failed to write to the Active Directory. Error code 5 (Access is denied.)

    Hi All,
I could see following error event in all client computers , Could you please some one help me on this ?
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:
    Microsoft-Windows-CertificateServicesClient-CredentialRoaming
    Event ID:      1005
    Level:         Error
Description: Certificate Services Client: Credential Roaming failed to  write to the Active Directory. Error code 5 (Access is denied.)

If you are not using certificates and Credential Roaming for clients then simply ignore the error message.
If you are using certificates then you are getting access denied message when Credential Roaming is trying to write to your AD. More details about Credential Roaming here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/01/06/certs-on-wheels-understanding-credential-roaming.aspx

This is probably related to the fact that your schema version not 44 or higher: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/5b3a6e61-68c4-47d3-ae79-8296cb3be315/certificateservicesclientcredentialroaming-errors?forum=winserverGP
