Deletion of Material groups

Hi all,
In the past we have created different material groups for each and every plant. Now we plan to standardize this for all of them.
I plan to change all old material groups to the new ones in the material master. This would update the info records, too.
I have to find a way to change the field in all POs and PRs.
Now my question:
Is there any impact with deleting the old material groups after that?
Do I need to pay regards to something else?

Hi,
You can delete the Material group, but the system will not remove the old Material group from the Material master, PO, or any other documents untill you update the new material groups to the documents.
Table will also update with new material group once you update that.

Could you please tell me any other fucntion modules are there.
As per your suggession we can add the material groups then what about Updation and deletion of material groups.
Also suggest me shall i go for normal modify , delete and update statements in my program to aceive the above functionality
2) The excel file format is also not constant they can change the columns
as per their wish i mean for exp in the above excel at col1 Status field is there and at col4 (MGS ) material group and remaining columns are description of the material group in different languages(sorry the excel alignment is not clear above) .
They can change this and they can place status at col5 and MGS at col6 .
Could you please advice me how to handle this situation in my program

Problem with material group in task list

Hi Experts,
We have created a task list with external operation assigned with specific material group, say 'x'. This task list is assigned to maintenance strategy which in turn assigned to maintenance plan. This Scheduled maintenance plan has generated many maintenance orders. After that we deleted the material group which was assigned to task list and assigned new material group to the task list. But now system is not generating maintenance orders from this task list as it is giving error message that "the old material group does not exist" Message no. SE419
Even though we changed the material group in that task list system still considering old material group.
Could you please help us to get ride of this problem?

The change that you had made on the task list is effective from the" Key date"date that's entered on the initial screen.That Is probably why this is causing an issue at your end.
Try changing the task list once again by back dating the "KEY DATE" on the initial screen of the transaction ,to a date before the "Plan date" of the MP. This should solve your problem.If you are not able to change this, then create a new task list with a back dated "key date" with all the other details remaining the same and and assign it to the plan.

Changing existing Material Group user defined names to new mat groups

Hi Gurus,
My client is using conventional Material Groups user defined names for ages in their system.
Now they have requested us to workout for switching over to UNSPSC material groups Global Standardization.
While carrying out the exerice, they have asked us to completely clean up the entire system to replace the new material group with old in all Masterdata, transaction data including statistics table in pr, po, stock and in everything

Hi,
If you change the Material groups in Material master the system the system will not update the PR/PO/Stock or others.
You need to change all the documents to update the New Material groups.
For Material master update you can use the LSMW.
You can update the PR/PO also but if the PR/PO is subjected to Release Strategy then you need to derelease then change the material group then update and if it is based on the Material group then while update the new release strategy will apply and you have to change everything.
Think of that if you have huge data then it is very difficult to change all the documents. if the data is Less you can proceed .
Instead of deleting old material groups just add the new material groups and use them in future for all your process.

Material Group clean up

Hello Everybody,
Our procurement department suggested a clean up of the material groups. So we need to remove and rename some materialgroups. We are on SAP ECC 6.0 and I would love some advice n how to remove/delete material groups. is that possible or do we need to archive ? What are the consequences financially if we can ddelete material groups ? I we cannot delete how can we make sure the material groups which are not active anymore are no visible in de LOV when creating a purchase order ?

You can delete the material groups in the following path which is purely customising :
SproLogistics - GeneralMaterial MasterSettings for Key FieldsDefine Material Groups.
Points to be noted before deleting :
All your Master data will be effected.
All open purchase orders will be effected.
Suggestions :
Create a new material groups wherever required and then replace the same in Master Data( Material Master / Inforecords )
Make sure that all open PO are closed and archived.
Once this is done u can delete in the above said customising path.

Error in CIF while change in Material Group in R/3

Hi,
I have assigned Material Group Description as an external field in Extra Tab in APO. When I create a material the CIF updates the filed correctly.
When I change the material group the CIF gives and error "Location does not exist for external location FR02, type , and BSG BSG1" where FR02 is my Plant.
When I delete the queue and re execute the IM the change is updated in APO.
Can someone tell me why the above CIF error appears for every change done.

It is common for experienced ABAPers to be able to determine this on their own. Normally all you should have to do is explain in business terms what is happening, and the ABAPer should be able to troubleshoot the problem without you first discovering the code details for him.
There are a couple of ways to populate the aux fields in the SCM product master. The first userexit I would look at would be CIFMAT01 on the R/3 side.

How to change the material group in existing PO

I want to change the material group in already exist PO. like one material have the material group 1002. i have changed the material group in material master i.e. 0022.
In already existed PO for this material, material group is not changing. how do we do this.

if ur po is processed then it is not possible
if it is not processed for gr then just delete the existing material and give new entry of material in same po

Import of material groups into hierarchy not possible (note 432339)

Dear All,
I am trying to replicate material groups (DNL_CUST_PROD1) from R3 system. Prior to this our SRM system configured as standalone and Material Hierarchy is already defined. When I am trying to replicate the material groups in SMQ2 I am receiving status as "sysfail" and further I am getting above message. In the message the OSS note also mentioned. In the OSS note they have given following solution
Error message "Import of material groups into hierarchy &1 not possible":
In transaction COMM_PRAPPLCAT, you specify that the hierarchy specified in the error message is to be used for application 'Purchasing' (02). This means that the material groups would be created in this hierarchy. Delete this setting in Transaction COMM_PRAPPLCAT. If hierarchy R3MATCLASS already exists, assign
hierarchy R3MATCLASS to application 'Purchasing'. Then the material groups are created in hierarchy R3MATCLASS. If you want to import the material groups into the hierarchy specified in the error message, you can also keep this hierarchy
assigned to application 'Purchasing' and deactivate the error message. Error message "Import of material types into hierarchy &1 not possible". You can do this in Customizing under 'Customer Relationship Management -> Master data -> Basic settings -> Define system message characteristics'.
My problem is I am not able to find out the path given in the OSS note ( i.e, Customer Relationship Management u2013 Master data) . Any one can help me in this regard ?

Material Group in ALV

Hi to all
i have a problem in ALV, when i entered the material group 01, it takes the material from the material group 01 as well as other material group(with the values has null).i like to know how to delete the materials from other group if it is sorted by a particular material group.for eg if i select material group 01,it should bring only from 01.

To set a filter, select one or more columns by clicking on the column header and by choosing Set Filter or Edit ® Set Filter.
In the Set Filter dialog box, enter the From/To values for each column selected.
Only rows with data within the intervals specified are shown.
Use And Also to enter more than one interval for a column.

ME32L Material Group change

Hello Guys,
In transaction 'ME32L' - agreement, I can see some line's Mat. Grp were '0000'.
when I use mm02 change some material's Material Group and come back to see in the ME32L.
The Mat. Grp have no change.
Can some guys know what is this probelm? And how can I change agreement Material's 'Material Group'?

Thank you for your reply.
Because I accept SAP just two weeks, so many concept not very clearly..
At present, I suggest our Purchasing Department delete the old 'agreement' line, and recreate 'agreement' new line for these materials.
I think these will be help them. @_@
These days is Christmas holiday and new years holiday, most of SAP specialists were not in the company.
Just I, only touch SAP two week's newcomers.. Very difficult.
By the way, thanks again for everyone's help.

Issue Search Help Exit for Material Group

I developed a search help exit for material group for the search helps both H_T023 and H_2023_MEPO to restrict certain material groups from the actual display as follows
1) I developed custom table to hold the Invalid material groups
2) Developed search help as same as in the bellow link

This is working fine when we press F4 in ME21N Transaction and give some description and then press enter the popup screen.
But my requirement is user will enter some description in ME21N material group field and press enter ( Not pressing the F4 here) at this moment this is not going through the search help exit and displaying all the entries including the Invalid materials.
Note: We can delete the Invalid material groups but the documents which are having the invalid material already will have an issue and need to be corrected all the documents. But our requirement is only to use the correct materials groups from now onwards.
I would appropriate if any one can helping this regard.

You can call your ZSEARCH_HELP from the PAI , on the event SY-UCOMM = Enter using the function module F4IF_FIELD_VALUE_REQUEST.
For example, your screen field is MARA-ZXXXX, screen 0100 and search help : ZSEARCH_HELP
CALL FUNCTION 'F4IF_FIELD_VALUE_REQUEST'
    EXPORTING
      tabname                   = 'MARA'

Filtering R/3 Material Groups and Material Types

Hi,
I am trying to filter the Material groups and material types during master data upload from R/3 to SRM 4.0
I am tried doing the following:
1. In Txn R2AR2, i set up the request for DNL_CUST_PROD1 for MARA-MATKL(Material Group) & MARA-MTART(Material Type)and then run the Txn R3AR4 with DNL_CUST_PROD1. The replication was successful, but it pulled in all the R/3 backend material groups and material types.
Now i deleted the replicated material types and Material groups in SRM using SRM Std reports and this too was successful.
2. Now i tried another method - In Txn R3AC3, i selected the Object DNL_CUST_PROD1 and i added table MARA and set up the filter requirements for MARA-MTART(Material Types) and MARA-MATKL(Material Groups), i synchronized the filters and then when i selected the object DNL_CUST_PROD1 in Txn R3AS for initial upload, even this is pulling in all the material types and material groups from R/3 without filtering
Can anyone please let me know the exact procedure to filter out the R/3 Material types and material groups during initial upload of this data into SRM 4.0

Before starting the INitial load for MATERIAL,for filetr settings ,Go in tcode R3AC1.
There select the Object name as MATERIAL and click on the "filter settings" tab.
There in OBJECT FILTER SETTINGS
Enter the relevant filter criteria:
e.g. If you wnat to filter on Material type(MARA-MTART):
The input will be as follows:
Table /Structure :MARA
Field :MTART
OP :EQ Equality (= Low)
Low: "Material type name"
Incl/EXcl: Inclusive defined
And then click on the button "FILTER SYNC".
The filter settings are complete for the Material download.

New material group

Hi Gurus,
Some materials have already been assigned to a material group. These are all active materials & stock exists for these materials.Now can we assign these to a different group. Can we use the fld "external material group" for further grouping i.e sub group.

you can assign a new material group to material
but u dont delet the old material group for SPRO , as it will created issues in running old PO and reports,
external material group is just a infermation field and we dont have any std report against this fiels u will have to chreat u own reports if u want any report against this report

How to update Material group code in contracts ?

Hi,
We implemented SAP in my company a year ago. AS you can imagine we need to do some cleaning now we know how it works...
We have change the Material Group code for over 1100 items.
Thing is, the material group code in the contracts do not update automatically.
I see two ways to handel this :
1- re-enter contract
2- delete lines that needs to be changed and recreate them...
I know for sure that both solutions would work but they are time consuming so I was wondering if one of you had another idea ( a quick or at least a massive one would be appreciated...)

You can use transaction MEMASSCONTRACT for mass changes to contracts
Caution:- Please use this transaction if you know, else first practice it in sandbox and then use in production environment

You can not modify the material gorup of Info records.
if you want to change the material group than create new inforecords and mark for deletion the exisitng info record
