Deletion of messages stored on mass memory on N97

Hi - I was wondering if anybody could help please ?
I've got a N97 which I've had around 180 messages in my Inbox and Sent Items which used the mass memory (E drive) to store the messages on.
I did a backup of the device on the phone via the File Manager application, and did a reinstall of the firmware.
Although the reinstall of the firmware didn't touch the music stored on the mass memory it appears to have deleted the messages I had stored, and unfortunately the backup doesn't appear to have stored the messages ...
Does anyone know if there is anyway of accessing/retrieving the messages which should hopefully still be on my E drive please ?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Edward

Ok, I had to try it out.
1. I had 1 message on C: and did a backup in filemanager. It backed up on F: on default. - I deleted the message on C: and restored the backup. My message got back.
2. If I deleted my message on C: and had 1 message on E: and did a backup - it also stored the backup on F: by default. - I set my message memory to E: and restored. - No message to see. - Cause it told me it would restore the backup to phonememory (C: ). I changed the messagememory to C: - but could not find any message.
As I can see, the backupprogram only backs up messages from C....

Is there any way to delete saved messages from IPhone 4 memory?

Firstly you DO NOT have to do a factory reset / wipe device, it is simply not required to get the space back!!
Mine had 3GB and I just got rid of it all, here is how:
    Make a backup in iTunes
    open iBackupBot (Google it)
    Go to the relevant backup
Click on Multimedia File Manager and click on the other Multimedia files tab
Sort by filename by clicking the Filename tab
Find MediaDomain/Library/SMS/Attachments and highlight all of them, then press delete.  You can also click to export to a folder of your choice, if you want to save them that is.
    Then go to System Files>MediaDomain>Library>SMS>Attachments
They will be all listed here, highlight them all and press delete
Then just restore that backup using iTunes!
Tadaa! Space recovered, your messages are still there but without the attachments!
P.S You may want to make two backups in case you get any of the above steps wrong, but it is simple to follow the above and not do anything wrong!

  • How to view the messages stored in my memory card

    hey..
i have just bought the c6-01..and my prev memory card has my messages which are imp ..is there a way frm which i can view those messages
    thank u

Symbian^3 currently has no way of looking at stored messages in the memory card. If you would like to access them, load the memory card back to your old phone and sync them to your PC via Ovi suite where these messages can be read on the program. You can move these to the C6-01 via Ovi Suite should you desire to do so.

  • 5800 deletes sms messages after self reboot

    My first taste of disgrace;
I took a picture yesterday and imediatly sent it from the camera application via MMS.
During the send process, the phone decided to reebot and lost its wallpaper and for my disgrace all of the messages!!!!
They were stored in the memory card...
After the reboot, the message store path was still pointing to the memory card, but it detected 0 messages...
I tried switching back and forward from "phone memory" to "card memory" but still nothing....
Were is the safety in having the messages stored in the memory card if the phone can easily wipe them out of existence???
And I was liking this phone so much.....
    Regards,
    Joao Duarte

......it could be the memory card being faulty.......
have either of you tried a different memory card?
i find that memory cards are very "sensitive" so if you have been
removing it and replacing it into the device a fault can occur......
secondly try this and see what happens
    go to messages---->options------>settings---->other
here you will find a few settings try configurating them to your lliking
(save sent messages "yes" number of saved messages "999"
MEMORY IN USE  "E:Memory Card") i think it may be a matter of the phone
switching between where the messages are saved (phone memory or memory card)
thus it appears as though messages have been deleted when in fact its just the LOCATION
    of where messages are saved.
    hope this helps.....

  • N86 : Mass memory access

    Hi,
I setup my phone to store all my messages (SMS, MMS, Email..) in my Mass memory (E).
My problem is when I connect my phone to my PC with USB cable to acces directly as a mass storag or PC Suite, I lose my email notification setup on my standy screen.
So, when I disconnect my phone, I have to setup again my email notifiaction and when I access my messages box, a warnong appears : Mass memory not available.
So I have to setup again my messages to use Mass memory as I said before.
    Thanks for your help.

    Nokia MicroSD 16Go.

I have the same issue. I haven't lost messages yet though. I put the phone into the offline profile before connecting to my mac so that it doesn't mess around with the settings while I transfer photos or whatever. It means you are effectively off network but that is less of an annoyance than having to keep changing the settings back.
Another issue with the mass memory I have found is that if you insert a microsd card then you can't access the mass memory either! How rubbish is that? The whole point of having an additional card is to back up the mass memory. As soon as I turned the phone on with the card installed it complained it couldn't access the mass memory and would use phone memory for messages. Very poor. It doesn't make sense as the card, phone and mass memory are all different logical drives so there is no reason why E and whatever drive letter the card is can't be accessible simultaneously.

  • N97 Firmware update - E: Mass memory 100% full -- ...

    Help!!!
I just did an firmware update on my N97 to v11.2.021 and when the phone restarted I got a message that E:\ (mass memory) is completely FULL.
And my F:\ (a 1GB memory card) shows corrupted. **bleep**!?? I'm glad I didn't store anythign important there.
I looked up via the File manager and sure enough, the E:\ (mass memory) show 0 MB free. I opened it up.. but I can't quite tell what's takign up all the space.
I see a few weirdly named/weirdo character filenames.
Can somebody please help?!! Is there a way to roll off the update?!

Okay.. here's what I've done. The phone was working alright after the update (maybe just a tad slower) and I didn't notice any other issues except for E:\ filling up.
After a while.. when I'd use File Manager in the phone to browse to E:\.. I got a (memory corrupted) message. So my E:\ was pretty much done/gone.
So I did the hard reset *#0730# and then from the File Manager.. did a 'Format Memory' on E:\ and this cleaned E:\ up.
BUT... all my pre-loaded US map data is now gone. The lady at the Nokia Flagship store had told me the N97 came with pre-loaded US maps. They're all gone now.. oh well.
But i'm still effin annoyed that the update didn't work though.. so Nokia still gets a thumbs-down in this department.

  • N97 - copy messages from C to mass memory

Yesterday I transferred all my texts to the mass memory, however while connected to the phone in mass storage mode on the computer today I got a text through which I read and as a result it stored it to the C drive. How can I put this text onto the mass memory with the rest of them?
    N97 11.0.021

    I finally found a way:
Select the phone memory (c location were your messages are stored.
Open Messages in pc suite and select all messages from your inbox
Export them to a csv file on your pc
Now change the location to mass storage on your phone
Refresh pc suite and you'll see the messages in your mass storage
Create a new folder in My Folders f.e. Inbox
Select this folder and choose file - import and select the file where you saved your messages from your phone memory.
Now transfer the messages from your my folder inbox to your inbox.
Now change the location to phone memory on your phone
Refresh pc suite and you'll see the messages in your phone memory again.
    You can now delete them.....
It's a bit time consuming, but it works!

  • How many deleted voice messages can be stored in deleted messages

There are 256 messages stored in my "deleted Messages" on my phone...  How many will it hold?

It will hold as many as you have memory for. It's a good idea to clear them occasionally. They can eat up quite a bit of storage space over time.

Hello mynameischrissie and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Sorry to hear you're experiencing an issue with SMS on your device.
To clarify, are ALL SMS deleting from this contact or just older messages within the SMS chat?
Have you ever received an error your SIM card storage is full in regards to saving your SMS?
    Thanks!

  • The messages are keeped in memory even deleted

The memory on my iphone is full, i have 4.6GB of Message. SO i go in the messages app to delete all of them but even if I delete the message in the Messages app when i go in Settings/General/Usage I see that the memory used by message hasn't decreased.

When you delete a message it is 'marked as deleted' and disappears from the the Inbox and reappears in the 'Deleted' folder. However, in reality, it is still in the Inbox, just not displaying as it is 'marked as deleted'. So, if you deleted in error it is easy to get it back.
Compacting will remove all traces of the 'marked as deleted' email.
Read more info on compacting - what it does and why it is important:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders
What you are describing sounds like you have not been maintaining the folder by regular compacting. So the folder is showing some signs of corruption.
As the folder may be corrupted, before you do anything, move all emails into a suitable folder. When you have moved everything you want to keep, delete all other emails and then right click on folder and select 'compact'.
It is advised that the Inbox is used as an Inbox for incoming emails and not as a general storage for mail. see info at link below.

  • Mass Delete SMS Messages in iOS4

I am a sysadmin and I get TONS of SMS messages and I need to purge them on a regular basis to keep sane.
In the past, I had been using PhoneView to mass delete SMS messages from my iPhone, but Apple has apparently changed how the SMS messages are managed and PhoneView has permanently discontinued this functionality.
Is anyone aware of any products or methods for mass deleting SMS messages in iOS4?

Same problem here. I have over 1000 msgs that need deleting. Been waiting years for this "obvious" feature. I can't believe they didn't fix this in iOS4. So, love to hear if there's an app for that.
