Depreciation Problem

Dear All,
Here's the case : I run depreciation for 12.2010. Then I made transfer from asset 10010 to 10020 for 30.11.2010. I still see planned depreciation for 10010. When I try to run depreciation again for 12.2010, SAP says it's not necessary. I triedto run again, unplanned, everything but nothing seems to work. Any advices?
Best regards,
Onur

Dear Expert!
I am facing with very strange situation in asset depreciation
I have one asset with original amount = 264.000.000 with time for depreciation = 1 year + 3 periods
In 2010
The amount posted for depreciation in September is 35.200.000 (Legacy data transfer)
                                                              October, November & December: 17.600.000 / month
But in 2011
When user run depreciation for January, the amount posted is 176.000.000 and the plan amount for depreciation in February and next months is 0
Why this amount can be like this?
Can someone help me to explain this?
Thanks so much for your attention!

  • Adjust wrong depreciation problem

Asset A is purchased in 2007.1.1, useful life 10 years, straight line, no residual value, in 2009.1.1, it is transfered to asset B and asset A became zero, after transfered to asset B, should we adjust asset B useful life to be 8 years or should we adjust depreciation start day to be 2009.Jan .2?
Previously, we didn't realize this depreciation problem, thus we didn't adjust asset B, the depreciation is wrong, in Nov, we realize the issue, so how to adjust the wrong depreciation charge from 2009.Jan to 2009 Oct?

This calculation all depends on your depreciation keys and period controls. Does Asset A and B should have same depreciation key/ useful life? While transferring Assets A to B you could have transferred those depreciation terms too. If you want to correct depreciation in Asset B now you can use either Unplanned (ABAA) or write-up (ABZU) depending if you want to increase or decrease depreciation.

    Hi,
Please check the Multi Level method for the depreciation key used for this asset (t.code AFAMS). You may have defined two or more different calculation methods. Check if there is any changeover from the previous method to a new one which may be giving raise to the present issue.
Also, before this, make sure that the depreciation key has not been modified.
Let us know if the problem persists . . .

  • Depreciation Problem after asset transfer

    Hi All,
During our month end, our user did the asset transfer within the same company code. When he runs the Depreciation through AFAB, the new asset is not showing any depreciation for current month, where as Old asset has some balance. I checked the new asset and in the Depreciation area, the Dep. start date is showing as 05/02/08. We changed the date to 03/02/2008 through AS02, but still it is not showing up any depreciation. I do have following questions.
    1. Can we transfer asset before depreciation run or run the depreciation first and then do the transfer. In our case we already transfered, so how do we fix it.
    2. I wonder how it is getting the Odep. start date as 05/04/08. Is it defined some where in Depreciation key/
    3. Can we run depreciation excluding that new asset. If so, how it can be done
Please let me know if anyone has come across this, and how to solve this.
    This is an urgent.
    Thanks
    Kris

    Hi Muriel,
I am very sure you did not do it correctly. Now, this is the step to follow:
    1. First adjust the APC value to what it should be using transaction code <b>ABSO</b>. Once you're sure that your Acquisition Value is correct, the next thing to do is
    2. To execute transaction <b>AFAB</b>(Depreciation Run) in "<b>Test Mode</b>". This would give you the depreciation that would be posted by the system asset by asset. This are under three main headings namely: "<b>Planned</b>", "<b>Posted</b>" & "<b>To Post</b>".
Depending on your depreciation method, the "<b>Planned</b>" figure gives the total amount the system would post for the financial year whilst the "<b>Posted</b>" figure gives you what has been posted up to date and the "<b>To Post</b>" figure gives you what would be charged to the P&L when you run <b>AFAB</b> in Production mode.
Your Net Book Value(NBV) at the end of the depreciation run for say November 2006 would be <b>NBV</b> = <b>APC</b> - (<b>Posted + To Post</b>)
If Posted + To Post (i.e. Accummulated Depreciation) is more or less than what you expect it to be from you manual calculation, you then need to adjust the figure upward or downward depending on the situation at hand. That is when you now need to
    3. Perform Manual Depreciation Adjustment using either transaction code <b>ABAA</b> or <b>ABMA</b>.
You can then use <b>AW01N</b> to view the asset. You would be able to see the different postings made. Do not forget to run <b>AFAB</b> in production mode. If not, no depreciation value would be posted and your report would still be wrong.
    I hope the above helps.
Do not forget to award the points please.
    Regards,
    Jacob

  • Ajust depreciation in specific books

Need help with accumulated depreciation problem on two dep books.  I am not assets expert but trying to learn.  I have searched for solution but unable to find post on point.
This problem is on a group asset and has been happening since 2007.  Book 32 takes value from book 01.  Book 01 and book 32 agree on APC but not on depreciation.  The differences resulted from logic errors in user exit code used to create the group assets.  The user exit code did not properly assign group managed settings to book 32 on all individual assets assigned to the group.  Result is that book 32 depreciation did not calculate properly.  We now have difference in accumulated depreciation between book 01 and 32.
How can we adjust accumulated depreciation on book 32 only to make it equal book 01 and also adjust planned depreciation on book 32 so that planned depreciation (and future depr postings) will be in sync with book 01?  Like I said, I am not assets expert.  So please forgive me if I ask dumb question or use wrong words.  Trying to learn as quickly as I can but need to resolve this problem quickly.
    Kind regards,
    Steve

    Hi Blaz,
Thank you.  Note 50761 was helpful and points were awarded.  So how might I post adjustment just to book 32?  Would I create "Z" transaction types that look like 600/610 and limit posting to specific depr books?  I want to post adjustment as current period transaction as opening prior closed periods is not an option.
    Kind regards,
    Steve

  • Problem in Tax Depreciation Report

    Dear all,
We are implementing Asset accounting for Tata capital. For tax depreciation area we maintained the setting for GL posting as(0= No values are posted in General Ledger). We had created the respecting depreciation keys and assigned in the asset master. The problem is, when i am running report of tax depreciation using transaction code J1IQ, it is not showing any data. It is displaying empty list.
Please guide us further, if any settings needs to be done
    Thanks and Regards
    L. Priyadarshini

    Dear Priyadarshini,
Creating depreication keys and assigning in master may not serve your purpose.
Are you aware of the Asset Block concept in IT Act?
The depreciation in IT Act is calculated based on the total value of assets falling under one group, which is called "Gross Block" .
Eg:- Computers & Softwares comes under 1 block, so you need to create 1 group asset for every block in IT Act.
T-Code AS21, here you create 1 asset for every block in IT Act and maintain the depreciation keys for it, also enter the gross value and accumulated depreication in this for the entire block.
Now, this group asset number needs to be specified in every asset which you are creating in AS91,just double click on the depreciation area 15 (for IT Act) in the asset master you will get an entry screen where you have to specify the group asset number.
I think the report J1IQ is not used anymore.
Instead of that try giving the group asset number  created for IT act, in AW01N or any other asset report for getting the values of Gross Block and Accum Dep as per IT Act.
    Assign points if found useful.

  • Problem with assigning chart of Depreciation to company code

    Hi Everybody
I am just trying to assign chart of accounts to company code. I get the following error message:
Inconsistency between FI company code 9100 and chart of deprec. 9100
    Message no. AC481
    Diagnosis
You tried to assign chart of depreciation 9100 to company code 9100. According to its Customizing definition, this company code manages parallel currencies.
The chart of depreciation does not contain a corresponding depreciation area for each of the currency types that are defined in the company code.
    System response
    This assignment is not possible.
    Procedure
    1. Check the currency types of the company code.
    2. Specify a corresponding depreciation area for each currency type.
I have maintained parallel currency for the company code i.e. Currency for Leading ledger is INR and the 2nd and 3rd local currency is EUR and want to keep this setting unchange.
Can anybody help me to solve this problem.

  • Problem with depreciation posting for an asset with a '0' net book value.

    Hi,
I have a problem with depreciation posting on one asset. I think it should not be calculated and posted at all.
On 1st November 2010 (our Fiscal year starts on 1st November) there was acquisition posted to an asset and then it was reversed on the same day - so the net book value was '0'.
In AFAB depreciation run for April 2011 - it posted depreciatoion of 0.01 Euro, so now the book value is -0.01.
Do you know how this could have happened and what can I do to get the value of this asset back to 0?
    Thank you,
    Karol

    Hi Murlidhar,
    Thank you for your reply.
I just have one doubt - as depreciation of 0.01 Eur was posted in previous period leaving net value of asset equal to -0.01 Eur.
Shouldn't I get ritd of this asset value before I proceed with the steps you suggested?
I think it is not possible to reverse the depreciation - so I struggle to find a way to bring asset value back to zero.
    Thank you,
    Karol

    Hi,
your problem (apparently) is that the Company Code manage 2 currencies, in this case, I think that you should configure a depreciation area in order to manage the valuation of the asset in the alternative currency. I think that SAP provides a standard depreciation area that you can copy.
I know that this is not a solution, but I hope this helps

  • Problem with depreciation area (Incorrect currency exchange rate is used)

Good day to all SDN forumers!
I'm having a problem with one depreciation area that we set up. The reason why we configured this depreciation area is for us to enable to monitor all asset postings in another (group) currency aside from the local currency. We set it up in such a way that the depreciation would not post and would thus only "convert" the asset postings to group currency using the table rates in table TCURR (via OB08).
The problem is despite having defined an exchange rate for the current period, the system still picks up the exchange rate for 01/01/2001 which is incorrect. This affected all reports which displays incorrect values whenever I view the postings using the 2nd depreciation area we set up. Is there a way we can correct this?
I'd really appreciate your comments and suggestions guys. Thanks a lot and more power!

    Update:
I created a new depreciation area by copying an existing area and updated some of the configuration. The problem is still there though, since the depreciation area still reflects the <b>incorrect</b> rate (similar to that of the previous depreciation area) whenever I access it using Asset Explorer. What's surprising is that even though I've already set the exchange rate (e.g. USD to EUR)  to match that of the asset's capitalization / acquisition date, the posted values still do not reflect what I defined in table TCURR. Instead, it reflects the exchange rate used by the old depreciation area. Help anyone? We are already in a production client and transfer/retirement of all the assets is not an option the client would like to undertake.

  • Depreciation run problem."You can only post in new year after closing the"

    Hi,
We are implementing Asset accounting to one of our co code.New Assets were created in Jan and when I tried to Post depreciation for Jan, I get an error log that says "You can only post in new year after closing the previous year."
When i double click on error message.
    Diagnosis
You want to post in a new fiscal year. However, a posting must have been made in the last period in the previous fiscal year before you can do this.
    Procedure
Post to the last period in the previous year first.
So I went ahead and opened the previous year, posted the depreciation, closed the year and tried to post Period 1 again, but still get the same error.
Why do I need to post the previous period if I just created the assets in this period?
I Have completed AJRW, AJAB also.
I think it may be a problem with Table. Please suggest me.
    Thank you

    Hi,
    Please check the following :-
    1. Check the Last Closed year in your Asset Accounting.
    2. Check the Last Depreciation Posted in Your Asset Accounting.
These 2 menus are available in "Data Transfer in Fixed Asset Accounting".

    Hi,
    Unplanned Depreciation
Ordinary depreciation reflects the deduction for wear and tear during the normal use of the asset. But the unusual influences, such as damage which leads to a permanent decrease in the value of the asset, are covered by unplanned depreciation.
    Ordinary Depreciation
Ordinary depreciation is actually the planned depreciation/deduction for wear and tear during normal use of an asset.
