  • Problem with depreciation posting for an asset with a '0' net book value.

    Hi,
I have a problem with depreciation posting on one asset. I think it should not be calculated and posted at all.
On 1st November 2010 (our Fiscal year starts on 1st November) there was acquisition posted to an asset and then it was reversed on the same day - so the net book value was '0'.
In AFAB depreciation run for April 2011 - it posted depreciatoion of 0.01 Euro, so now the book value is -0.01.
Do you know how this could have happened and what can I do to get the value of this asset back to 0?
    Thank you,
    Karol

    Hi Murlidhar,
    Thank you for your reply.
I just have one doubt - as depreciation of 0.01 Eur was posted in previous period leaving net value of asset equal to -0.01 Eur.
Shouldn't I get ritd of this asset value before I proceed with the steps you suggested?
I think it is not possible to reverse the depreciation - so I struggle to find a way to bring asset value back to zero.
    Thank you,
    Karol

  • Allow Posting to Previous Period - MMRV

    Dear Friends,
We can open / close MM periods thru MMPV & see the currently open periods thru MMRV.
Now when we check current Period in MMRV, we see three periods:
    Current period                 07 2009 (October 2009)
    Previous period               06 2008 (Septermber 2009)
    Last period in prev.year  12 2008 (March 2009)
Here we have also Allowed posting to Previous Periods.
Thus current open period is 07 2009 (October 2009) & we can also post in Septermber 2009 (06 2009).
But the real problem is can we post some MM Documents in March 2009 (i.e. 12 2008)? Currently when we try system gives error - Posting only possible in 07 2009 & 06 2009.
I know it is SAP standard to allow only two MM months to be open at a given point of time.
Then what is the use of "Last period in prev.year  12 2008" in MMRV screen?
    Waiting for early replies...
    Thanks,
    Jignesh Mehta

In SAP system, you can only post stocks to one back period only by checking the Check Box in MMRV Transaction.
The entries you mentioned (Current Period, Previous Period, etc. are just information purpose only.
In certain cases, for ex: changing valuation Class etc., you have to check the stocks in Current, previous period and last period in previous year.
So you can get information of periods in MMRV Transactions.
For back posting to other periods (other than previous period), you should use Transaction MMPI.

It would be better if you analysis you update termination error in TCode ST22.
Refer following discussion, where I have explained how to analysis this in ST22.

  • Error: No depreciation  posting required in period 009 (current period)

    Hi,
I am getting error " No depreciation posting required in period 009"  and  009 is my current period.
The description of the error says " Do depreciation is posted, since according to the posting cycle no postings are required in this period".   In fact this is the first time i am running depreciation. I want to post the depreciation for 1st period. More over i could not able to see the planned values in asset explorer also.
Whenever i am entering this asset in the asset explorer it is  giving the above error. But while i run the depreciation its not giving any error. When i check in spool to view the depreciation, its giving msg as "List contains no data" check error log.
Could anyone help me in resolving this error.  what could be the reason for this error.
    Thanks
    Sabera

    Hi,
I checked in TABA table, its showing that till 9 the period depreciation has been posted. But i have not posted the depreciation. If it is posted, then it has to show in the planned values as posted, but its showing as "No depreciation"  and its not even showing the depreciation for other periods.  Could you able to clear this query? I wonder why it is giving this kind of error.

  • Allow posting to previous period (Backposting) in MM period close

    Hi,
Does anyone know the implications/consequences of allowing posting to previous period (Backposting) when doing MM period closing?
    Thanks.

    Hi Irene,
We need to close posting period in MM module to allow posting in new posting period. However, if there are still some transactions need to be posted for the just closed period, we allow posting for closed period as well.
However, we can allow postings only for one previous period in MM. We can't post to earlier posting periods.
After all the transactions get posted in initial days of new posting period, we can close previous posting period in FI. Automatically system will not allow posting for MM transactions that has financial implication.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers,
    Som

  • Recalculation of Depreciation for the previous periods

    Hi All,
I am new to this forum, I have one query regarding the recalculation of depreciation.
Client wants to increase the life of the asset and depreciation change should be effected from 01/07/2010 (FY start). Depreciation has already posted from July to December 2010. We are following SLM & WDV methods.
I know we have the options like smoothing and catchup. But client wants to update/post to respective periods and in AW01N for each period it should show the depreciation as per the change in life of the asset.
It would be of great help, if you look into this matter.
    Thanks in advance
    Kind regards
    Shanid

    Hi Viswa,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I tried with your answer, when I ran AFAB with posting period 1, I am getting below error.
"You want to carry out a repeat depreciation posting run in period 001. However, the last posting run was for period 006.
Start the repeat run again using period 006".
    Kind Regards
    Shanid

  • Allow posting to previous period only for invoices (only invoices).

    Hi gurus,
We want to cancel invoice document s(MR8M) with the same date that the invoice was created (previous period). We know that we can use MMRV transaction for this but MMRV will posting of all MM documents, whereas we need to restrict posting  to previous period only for invoices.
It´s possible? Can you please help on this with complete steps?
    thanks!!!

I don´t know if there is a better way to do that, but you could flag the field "Allow Posting to Previous Period" in MMRV and configure the posting date in all the transaction (MIGO, MIRO, MB1A,MB1B, etc) for only display except MR8M transaction.

  • SOS--a problem about depreciation posting

    Dear all:
when i run depreciation posting through Tcode AFAB.
i found that there were some assets have not joined the depreciation, which  should be depreciated.
and there assets have already  been depreciated in previous month.
SOS! if this problem can't be resolved, i can't colse this period.
    thanks!
    best regards!

    Dear Sridhar:

  • Depreciation repeat run -previous period

We have done planned depreciation run for 10th (currrent) period  without running repeat run for 9th (previous) period.
Please help us how to carry repeat run for 9th period.
    thanx in advance
    Srihari

    Hi Srihari,
"N" number of times you can able to Re-run depreciation posting, no doubt about it.
here you are posted dep for 10th period and again you are capitalised asset for previous period (9th), now we have two options.
1 - Based on dep key system calculate dep for previous periods and post next period (11th)
    Ex: Asset Value = $ 12000 % use ful life 10 years.
    Dep 10% every month  = $ 100
here when you execute dep for the period 11th system post $ 300 depreciation value. ( this method called Catch up method)
2 - Smoothing Method ( Go to T.Code: OAYR and select Smoothing Check Bok)
now your asset report shows from 9th to 12th period $100 every month.
this situation you can run again Re-Run Depreciation, system will post dep amount respective months.
    Regards
    Viswa

  • Depreciation posted in wrong period

    Hi All,
I ran depreciation in period 10 for all assets, after that, I acquired a fixed asset  in period 10. After that I want to run depreciation again in period 10 in repeat mode, but modified depreciation values DON´T appear in period 10 in AW01N, the asset only stars its depreciation in period 11, why is that?
If the modifications of asset values were done in period 10, shouldn´t depreciation values also start in period 10 and shouldn´t I be able to run depreciation in repeat mode for period 10?
    Thanks in advance,
    MG.

    Hi Ajay and Bernhard,
In Asset Master the depreciation is settle to start in 01.10.2010, I already run depreciations for all assets in period 10 but not for period 11.
I only acquired the asset after running depreciation for period 10, so in AFAB I have to run depreciation again for period 10 in "repeat" mode right?
Problem is...when I do that, the outcome is zero as if I didn´t make a new acquisition for that period, after that I went to asset explorer (AW01N) and in tab "Posted values" depreciations only starts in period 11.
Example (of what is shown in asset in AW01N):
    Acquisition value: 1000 $
    Acquisition date: 15.10.2010
Dep. start date: 01.10.2010 (period 10 already been run)
    Posted values:
    - period 11: 50 $
    - period 12: 25 $
Why depreciation doesn´t starts in period 10? Instead period 11 "eats" values from period 10. I want to run again period 10 but it doesn´t have values. Can you tell me why this happens?
    Thanks in advance,
    MG.

  • Depreciation Posting Run for Period 02 in 2008

    Dear All,
I have closed the 2007 fiscal year for fixed assets and executed the fiscal year change successfully. I have also executed the depreciation run for January period 01 without any errors, however, when I attempted to execute the depreciation run for February (period 01), I keep on getting this error message:
_Test run was terminated. No documents were created in this run_
Upon further investigation, I got this long text for the error message:
In the number range interval for the document type for posting depreciation, a document  has been posted which was not created within the framework of depreciation posting. The last document posted by depreciation posting was assigned the number.
I have checked my number ranges and there is really no problem there.
Can somebody please help me as we need to close the financial books for period 02 and would not be able to do this until the completion of depreciation run.
Thank you in advance for your kind assistance

Check first wht is the posting period varient assign and than check all the assignments...including the number ranges and document types.
than try to run it again
    hope it works

  • Backposting is disallowed still we are able to post in previous period

    Dear All,
We have disallowed backposting for one company code (MMRV)& it is also disallowed in OMSY transaction for that company code.Still we are able to post MR21 document in previous period.
Can you please let me know why this is happening & how we can prevent this from happening.
    Thanks,
    Amit

OSS Note 1134322 - MMRV and return postings to the previous period
clearly explains that MR21 is not possible :
Transaction MMRV closes the previous period for general goods movements, invoices, and so on. The following postings are still possible in the previous period after you close the previous period.
Goods movements for the physical inventory
Closing entry for actual costing in the material ledger
For the following operations, you can set whether postings in the previous periods are possible even after the previous periods have been closed:
Price changes (after you implement Note 1238496)
How did you check that this note is note in your system?
it comes with a support package.
use SE38 and display the source of RCKM_MR21F01
search with CTRL+F for the value 1238496
if you find it, then the note is certainly in your system.
    so any user who has
