Design Of Planning Book

Hi
I have a rek. In our Pl Books, say i have 5 KFs. A macro copies the data from customer forecast KF to Final Forecast KF. Now the requirement is that i need to stop the users from editing any value in the previous months for all 5 KFs. Means system should lock the past months. (if we are in Oct 07, then no one should be able to edit the values in Sep 07 and before). But they are free to edit current month and future.
I tried to remove the tick from Input field in Dataview design, then i cant load my history data in the KFs.(sometimes the history data of last few months only may change- due to change in order qty).
How can i enable this ?
thanks
venkat

I am not sure if the last couple of sentences are entirely accurate. We can always load History data into planning area irrespective of the dataview capability to edit data. Ideally historical corrections should reflect in the data that gets loaded into Infocube which finally goes into the planning area. If you want planners to make changes to last couple of months, make them do on the corrected history keyfigure which can start off as a replica of raw history key figure in the beginning of planning cycle. This is not a necessary step, if you take care of this at the pre-Infocube stage itself.
You are on the right path of of working with the input field check. I would recommend that you keep that input field checked though but the date should be the current date in the field next to it. This date automatically rolls as we move into the future. This means data in the past becomes automatically uneditable. I guess this should meet all your requirements and I am positive about this since we have the same model in place for last couple of months.

For the above scenario how many planning book i need to create , Please advise

    Hi rajkumar,
I am hoping that you are asking this question from an authorisation point of view and perfomanc point of view.
From authorisation point view, if you want to restrict the access of diferent stakeholders, you can create different selection ids and restrict the authorisation at that level.
for example, a different selection id could be created for the sales force and restrict their access at their usrd id/selection id level. similary for a business manger, access could be restrcited at a higher level.
from a performance perspective, SAP best practices suggets that you should create a different planning book for batch jobs.
laslty, depending upon your business scenario, you may use the standard planning book provided by SAP for promotion planning.
Let me know if this helps.

  • How to create a custom Button in a SNP planning book

    Hi Experts,
I created my own Planning Book and Dataview in SNP with 3 Key Figures: KF1, KF2, KF3. Now I want to create one my own button with Macro so that when I press that button, the Macro will run to calculate: KF3 = KF1 + KF2.
I know that I can drag this Macro to one of default events like: Default, Level Change, Start. But actually, I want to create my own button so that I can handle the event as I want.
    My question are:
    1. How to create a custom button on the toolbar of SNP Planning book and writing macro for the button?
    2. Please give me any document, material teaching about writing macro and relating to my above scenario.
    Thanks very much!

    Hi,
Access the transaction "/n/sapapo/advm". In the list select your planning book/ data view and click 'Start Macro Builder' button.
In the Macro builder screen, drag and drop your macro from Macro depot to the work area.
Right click on your macro name and select 'properties'. In the pop up, next to the Assigned Push button field, there is a button 'Choose'. Click that. It will display all the available icons. In standard system, it displays more than 1000 icon. Choose any one icon which is suitable for your macro function. Close the pop up and save the macro. This will assign a push button to your macro.
In the Planning book tool bar, you can see the selected icon in the header tool bar. Just by clicking that icon, you can execute the macro interactively.
And I don't know whether we can include/design our own icon. But there are already 1000+ standard icons to choose.

  • [ZT] Important points of creating planning book

    From one SAP site:
Some hints on the design and usage of macros for background processing:
u2022 Create a separate planning book for each macro background job. The planning book should
contain only key figures used by the macro itself, and only macros executed as activities by
the mass-processing job. Use a different planning book whenever different key figures are
needed by two macros, and a different data view whenever the time periods are different.
u2022 Remove all unused macros from planning books associated with mass processing jobs, as
they are loaded in an unorganized manner which can be performance-intensive. Unused
macros are not helpful to your business process.
u2022 Only those macros that are called by an activity are executed in background. These activities
are: Start, End, Level change. Default macros are not executed automatically, as they are in
dialog. When defining a job, you must therefore first establish which start and default macros
have to be executed and in which sequence, so that your own self-defined macro can work
correctly. Macros for background should not involve actions like setting colors, hiding fields,
display icons, or sending popup windows that are frequently included in default macros for
    online use.
u2022 The planning book used for background macros should have only the functionality it uses, i.e.
application demand planning and no other functionality.
u2022 For performance reasons, run macros for a delta period rather than the entire horizon
wherever possible. Under most circumstances, historical data is not changed, other than
adding new periods, one time bucket profile at a time. Rather than performing the full
calculation over a long historical period, run a macro to do this once, and then design a new
macro that only performs the calculation for the u201Cdeltau201D period, or the period that has just
    entered the historical horizon.
u2022 If you want to speed up the processing in the APO releases 3.0A, 3.10 and SCM 4.0, you can
create several background jobs with roughly equal numbers of characteristic combinations
and run them in parallel. Make sure that no individual characteristic combination belongs to
more than one selection variant, as this can cause lock issues. For optimum performance the
selections for parallel processing should be roughly of the same size.
u2022 From release mySAP SCM 4.1 you can use parallel processing profiles for running macros,
e.g. for the adjustment of historical data. You can navigate from transaction /SAPAPO/MC8E
directly to the maintenance of parallel processing profiles or start transaction
/SAPAPO/SDP_PAR for direct access. After defining block size and number of maximum
parallel processes you have to assign the parallel processing profile to the selection variant.
The next time you run this selection as background job it will automatically run with parallel
    processing.
u2022 If you need to run two macros on the same key figures with the same level of aggregation, put
both into one planning book and execute them as two actions within the same background
activity (defined with transaction /SAPAPO/MC8T, see below). You thus save the time needed
for loading the data for a second time.

This explanation sounds very good. I think this is a very first things that we face while implementing.
    Thanks for posting this.

  • Previous year figures in planning book

    Hi all,
I want to show the previous year figures in the planning book.
According the help documentation of planning books it must be possible to add actual data and previous year figures (Demand Planning - Demand Planning Process - Planning book design - Planning book: "Add rows containing actual data from the current year and/or the previous year").
Actual data is easy by refering to 000 version. But how can I add previous year data?
    Thanks for your help
    Jean

I think what it means is that if you go to the dataview tab in the Planning book design you can see a field called Initial Column.
If you use initial column you will be able to add all the buckets in the period previous to the first future period. Its not necessarily last year but previous periods.
(though i dont understand what you menat by seeing actual using 000 version)
It makes more sense in an SNP planning book for a KF like Stock
    as the help says...
"The initial column covers the time span from 1970 until the beginning of the first future period minus 1 second. The data is read from a key figure that is stored in liveCache orders or liveCache time series. However, you can also populate this column with data using a macro, such as has been done with the Initial stock key figure in the standard Supply Network Planning data view.
Enter one of the following values:
    Blank - No initial column
L - The initial column is displayed on the far left of the table.
R- The initial column is displayed on the far right of the table.
C - The initial column is displayed between the past planning horizon and the future planning horizon."

  • Best practices for loading apo planning book data to cube for reporting

    Hi,
I would like to know whether there are any Best practices for loading apo planning book data to cube for reporting.
I have seen 2 types of Design:
    1) The Planning Book Extractor data is Loaded first to the APO BW system within a Cube, and then get transferred to the Actual BW system. Reports are run from the Actual BW system cube.
    2) The Planning Book Extractor data is loaded directly to a cube within the Actual BW system.
We do these data loads during evening hours once in a day.
    Rgds
    Gk

    Hi GK,
What I have normally seen is:
    1) Data would be extracted from APO Planning Area to APO Cube (FOR BACKUP purpose). Weekly or monthly, depending on how much data change you expect, or how critical it is for business. Backups are mostly monthly for DP.
    2) Data extracted from APO planning area directly to DSO of staging layer in BW, and then to BW cubes, for reporting.
    For DP monthly, SNP daily
You can also use the option 1 that you mentioned below. In this case, the APO cube is the backup cube, while the BW cube is the one that you could use for reporting, and this BW cube gets data from APO cube.
Benefit in this case is that we have to extract data from Planning Area only once. So, planning area is available for jobs/users for more time. However, backup and reporting extraction are getting mixed in this case, so issues in the flow could impact both the backup and the reporting. We have used this scenario recently, and yet to see the full impact.

  • APO DP Planning book cell entry or exit - macro way to validate business rules

    Dear All,
We have requirement from business that Demand planner will key in forecast in respective KF, when comes out of one cell and go to another cell to enter forecast, we have to validate the cell value with 3 months average and if it is deviated certain percent we need to highlight with different color.
Note: Planner do not want to enter/save in between moving between planning book cells.
For example: 3 months average is 100. Planner wants to enter forecast in cells continuously for next 12 months without hitting Enter key or save. I want to compare the cell value with average and if its deviated beyond certain level we need to highlight the cell with different color.
I know that we have macro events will work when we hit enter key or save or exit or level change.
I am not sure this is possible, wanted to know any other way possible.
    Thanks in advance.
    Please share your thoughts.
    Sreeni

This will be quite difficult to achieve because the planning books are designed so that macros execute after you press enter.  There are 3 possibilities that I see
1 - If you allowed the planner to make all their inputs into the required key figure and then press enter, you could easily design a macro to read each cell in the input key figure and compare it to the 3 months average of another key figure then highlight the input cell accordingly using the CELL_BG() functionality as described above.
2 - Alternately you could create a dynamic alert on the input key figure using much the same logic but again these will not generate until enter is pressed.
3 - Another option is to create a macro that asks the user to enter data into a pop-up box which is read into a layout variable.  This macro could be triggered from a push button.  You could then do the comparison between the value in the layout variable and the 3 months moving average for that particular time bucket and present an error message if it is outside the tolerances that you set.  Such a macro could run for all time buckets or for a range of time buckets that the user highlights.  Your user will still have to press enter however.  The use of some of the macro operators is below:
Overall I think you have to go with option 1 or 2 and generate the alerts at the end of user input
    Hope this helps

  • Graphic view when entering SDP94 planning book

    Hi,
do some of you know if there is a possibility for setting the DP planning book up, so it always will start with the graphic view ??
Instead of starting with the table view
This only for single users ???
    Thanks in advance
    Jan Juhl

    Hi Jan,
You can achieve the same by going into the design mode of the data view from the interactive planning book. Then Click on the top left cell with the right mouse button to pull down a menu. Then Check the graphic option. Save and come to live. It will dispay the graphic option as a default everytime you open the planning book.
In case you do not want table view at all in the data view, you can go to design view and click the layout button on the top. Then unflag the Table view. Save and come to live mode. The data view can show graphic dispaly only.
Let me know if it helps.

  • Unit of measure in APO DP planning Book

    Hi All,
We are using LB as Base unit of measure in product master and same is used as Unit of measure for DP planning area. I would like to use two different key figures in DP planning book where one key figure should display LB as UoM and other should display CS.
How do I achieve this? I tries check box option in keyfigure details screen in planning area but it does not help since Base unit of measure is same in product master and planning area.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,

    Harshil,
Maintain alternate unit of measurement in the Product master and then assign the alternate unit-CS in Planning book for the 2nd KF as CS by going to the design tab/option from Planning book.

  • Documentation in planning books

    Hi
We're looking into building a new planning book, and we would like to provide some help and documentation for the users.
Is there a way to either supply information inside the planning book or perhaps just link to an external website from inside a planning book?
I've looked into macro popups with info but they seem rather limited. I was also thinking if we could do some custom application help since that links to htmlhelp already But i'm not sure it's possible to provide custom help in that way.

  • VMI - what is the right planning book?

    Hi Gurus,
We are implementing VMI, My question is what is the right Planning area/Planning book.
I understand there is standard Planning area/book 9AVMI03  and 9AVMI(1) exists specifially for VMI.  What are advantages using 9AVMI03 instead of standard 9ASNP02 ?  If I am creating a new planning area should I copy VMI or Standard Planning area.
    Please share your experiance.
    Thanks,
    Niranjan

    Hi Niranjan,
Your point and question is very valid.   But if you see, VMI is subset under SNP.  So, 9ASNP02 is the master planning area which contains all key figures relevant to SNP which is inclusive of VMI key figures.
If you use planning area for VMI, all relevant key figures for VMI will be designed under this which will avoid complexities at later stage.
But there is no harm in using 9ASNP02 as well.
Hope your query is clarified.  Please confirm

  • Planning book creation

    Hi All,
Is it possible to create multiple Planning Books in same Planning Area?
    If yes, how?
    Please reply.

    Hi Ashish,
Planning Book: Planning Book is a content and layout for designing a Interactive Demand planning(IDP).
we need to design the PB's for different demand planners/group of planners.
we have the option for creation of macros for execution in planning books.
A planning book is based on a Planning Area.there is no limitation for the planning books we can create number of PB's for one PA(Planning Area)
For creating PB Tcode is : /SAPAPO/SDP8B
select the radio button for creating PB
Provide PB name and description.and the we need to provide our PA, So at this time what ever the Char and Kefg are available in PA all are existed in PB also
then you can assign what ever you want the Kefg and Char assign to PA to PB.
And the select check boxes related to UVM.MLR composite and Promotion.
we need to select this check boxes what ever you want.
Repeat the same procedure for all the Power users Individually.
and also create DV's for each PB
And better to find this bellow link very useful.

  • Error while accessing DP Planning Book through Portal. ( internet)

    Dear SDN,
We are using a collaborative planning book from SCM 4.0 system, which is published as a service on the ITS (6.20 version). This ITS has been published so that we can access the system from the Broadband, simply like any other website.
    The ITS URL is :

When we try through our LAN, we can access it.
When entering through broadband, we can see the first page of planning book , i.e. where selection of planning book and planning view is to be made.
Once a selection is made from the dropdown, and when <u><b>"CHOOSE"</b></u> button is clicked (for that matter the rectangular box containing the selection criteria and also the <u><b>Exit</b></u> button ) we get a message as :
<i>Problems with this Web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly.
